The Library seeks to preserve the intellectual content of items in a manner that facilitates and promotes a variety of uses. The Library also understands and values the usefulness of print and makes reprints available to the public whenever possible. The Loseley Manuscripts 1836
There are several aspects to this review, both positive and negative.
First the negative:
From the beginning, the presentation of this book is simply deceptive. It appears to be an authentic reproduction of the original papers. We are told "This is an OCR edition with typos". What do you think that means?Well, it doesn't mean someone made some typing errors; because the book is a largely unintelligible mess of confused and confusing print bound between paperback covers. The publishers know this.

That becomes plain when you create an account on their web site in order to place your complaint. At this point you are informed properly of the facts and, in admission of the known lousy quality, the publishers provide you with a link to download for "free" (Huh? I just paid $30 odd dollars + postage, remember?) a PDF of the the original scan. You download. You print the 470 odd pages (and you know the cost of that) then you take your sheets to a book binder and pay around $70 to have them nicely bound.

Its not complicated. The deal is a scam.

The Positive:
It is a wonderful thing to be able to obtain these rare documents at all, and I thank the publishers for making them available.

Finally though:
What a pity they have chosen to mar the pleasure by this duplicitous process. Why not spare the bother, either by printing and binding the un OCR-ed file and selling that, or by simply allowing the purchaser to download the PDF against his purchase immediately? The manuscript itself is dishonoured to be hawked in this dishonest way. ... Read more
