5-0 out of 5 stars Defoe may have written it, but the events realy did occur
Robert Drury was a 15 year old English sailor when his ship The "Degrave" ran aground on Madagascar in the early 1700's. All the crew were either killed or enslaved by the natives. After 15 years, Drury escaped and returned to England. He left this account of his adventure whenhe died. Some say his journal is fiction and is the work of Daniel Defoe. But "Sources for Robert Drury" tells how church records of thetime list a person who's name was Robert Drury or Robert Jury, and who wasnot only born at the time of the protagonist, but entered the navy at thesame time. A recent expedition to Madagascar found that all locations andhistorical references in the book are accurate. If Defoe realy did writethe book, then he first heard the story from the real Robert Drury. ... Read more

Product Description
The invention of laparoscopic urological techniques in the early 1990s was met with scepticism by urologists who demanded that the methods prove themselves when compared to established 'open' surgical procedures. However, the techniques were quickly shown as successful, and over time have gained acceptance through reproducible and durable outcomes.

In this well-illustrated surgical text, an international team of urologic surgeons specializing in uro-oncology share the experience gained in effective and reproducible teaching techniques in the field, and present the pioneering knowledge that will enable others to learn more about this important, ground-breaking procedure.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent structural geology textbook for all users
I used this as my textbook for structural geology, and whenever i have a friend who has a question, i frequently refer to this text as a reference. It has simple introductions for those who have not taken a class, as well as a detailed text that makes it an excellent reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars My new favorite book
The book was in slightly better shape than expected, a few dings in the cover but otherwise pristine... No marks on the pages or folded pages. Arrived sonner than expected. Would definitely do business again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Structural Geology, Twiss and Moores 1st edition
At first I didn't realize that I buy the first edition instead of the 2nd edition which I am looking for, I receive my book and realize my mistake that's why it is cheaper than I thought it should be, but the book is in a very good condition, and the content is quite similar, so I am not too regret on it and I still can use this book in general

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Collection of Essays
"Jung and Christianity in Dialogue: Faith, Feminism and Hermeneutics", published in 1990 and edited by Moore and Meckel is a brief collection of essays discussing the intersection of Jungian psychology and aspects of Christianity. The majority of these essays have been previously published.

At the outset of the Twenty-First century Jungian views of religion seems a minor historic curiousity - of interest only to select historians of twenty-century intellectual thought. The popularity of psychoanalysis, both Freudian and Jungian, has declined radically from its hey-day in the middle of the previous century.Hand-in-hand with this decline has been a general loss of interest in Jung's thoughts on other subjects such as religion, both, from scientific and theological commentators. On the one hand, Jung's psychological framework with its' `collective unconscious' and other structures seems contrived and unscientific. It strikes many as a brand of speculative metaphysics, inconsistent, not only with modern views of the mind, but with methodological naturalism in general. While on the other hand, though Jung's views are clearly mystical and mysterious, they lack the appeal and explanatory power of tradition religion.Put bluntly, Jung's views on religion seem silly.Indeed, it is hard to imagine that they had once warranted some serious consideration.

Putting aside the limited relevance of Jung's views on religion, the essays in this collection are mediocre at best, limited in scope and characterized by empty sophistry. The publishers claim that these contributions are from the "most highly-recognized" thinkers in the areas of religion and psychology is a paradigm case of hyperbole. At best the contributors are minor figures, mostly drawn from a narrow Jungian niche.

Overall, a mediocre collection of period essays, likely, a pass for most readers interested in religion or psychology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the wittiest and most incisive humor EVER
You don't have to be a fan of comic books to enjoy this book. This book is the beginning and is one complete story. And it's HILARIOUS!Truly some of the wittiest writing to be found today, it's more than just sitcom one-liners or pratfalls or toilet humor or pop-culture references. It's got some of that but really, you need look no further than the title to get a chuckle.

Great artwork.Very easy to follow and understand what's going on and the last issue (last quarter of this book) is just amazing.I reccomend this book to everyone I know and no one has been disappointed. You can do far worse with a few bucks of cash than this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Battle pope helped me find God
I was surfing the net one night when I ran across battle pope. The story is incredibly rich. The artwork is superb. The best thing about this comic book is its so damn origional. This comic book goes to places I have never seen any other comic attempt to go. You can buy this comic book and do the right thing or go to hell.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mmm Sacralicious
I came across this comic through BlamBot Comic Fonts' link to funkotron.com. Being thoroughly steeped in Xianity in my youth (though Xian no longer), I was amused my the mere images of Battle Pope, so I decided to give it a try-- one of my best decisions! The comic is set after God has taken the righteous, and the wicked and devils are left on earth for 1000 years, He appoints a protector of the people-- Battle Pope! With his trusty sidekick, Jesus H. Christ, he fights the minions of evil to save the archangel Michael (a regular Patton-type field general). The comic is scathingly funny, and probably best appreciated by those who were indoctrinated in "the faith" at one point. I'd recommend it to any and all... and Xians with a sense of humor, if there are any. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice
This is really one of the best comics I've ever read. It's funny and sacreligious but also extremely intelligent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Truly a hilarious book!Moore and Kirkman poke fun at religion in general, and the devil in particular, all in the name of good, clean(well, not always) fun!Battle Pope and Jesus, his trusty sidekick, take on the Lucifer and the forces of darkness in this excellent collection of the first Battle Pope miniseries. There's even a brand-new scene and sketchbook pages, in case you've already got the originals! Look for Battle Pope: Mayhem, the second miniseries, coming this summer!!! ... Read more

Product Description
R. L. Moore: Mathematician & Teacher presents a full and frank biography of a mathematician recognized as one of the principal figures in the 20th Century progression of the American school of point set topology. He was equally well known as creator of the Moore Method (no textbooks, no lectures, no conferring) in which there is a current and growing revival of interest and modified application under inquiry-based learning projects in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Parker draws on oral history, with first-person recollections from many leading figures in the American mathematics community of the last half-century. The story embraces some of the most famous and influential mathematical names in America and Europe from the late 1900s in what is undoubtedly a lively account of this controversial figure, once described as Mr. Chips with Attitude. He was the first American to become a Visiting Lecturer for the American Mathematical Society, was a member of the National Academy of Sciences, published 68 papers and a book that is still referred to seventy years later and that has been the subject of literally hundreds of papers by other mathematicians around the globe.

Three of Moore’s students followed him as president of the American Mathematical Society, and three others became vice-presidents. Five served as president of the Mathematical Association of America, and three became members of the National Academy of Sciences. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars History of a giant of the mathematics profession
The name of R. L. Moore appears throughout the mathematical literature, primarily for the Moore method of teaching, secondarily for the achievements of his mathematical progeny and thirdly for his mathematical output. Since his output was considerable, this order says something for the significance of the first two. The Moore method of instruction involved no textbooks, no lectures and no conferring between the students. The naïve person would argue that it is inappropriate to refer to it as a method of teaching. However, it did involve a great deal of instructor involvement, largely directing the students by asking appropriate questions and critiquing student work. As would be expected with any unusual teaching strategy, the students who succeeded praised it and those who didn't generally have a negative opinion. The best way to evaluate it is to examine how well his students did in their profession, and in that area, he has no peer. Three of his students served as president of the American Mathematical Society and three others were vice-president. Five of his students served as president of the Mathematical Association of America, which makes him the equivalent of the founder of a political dynasty.
While Moore was indeed brilliant in his work, he was also very cantankerous. He had strong opinions on many things outside of mathematics, and he did not hesitate to make them known when he felt it necessary. Being a man of the south, he was opposed to many of the liberal trends of the late fifties and sixties, putting his arguments forward in a states rights context. The story of his last years as a professor and how the administration tried to remove him is amazing. There was point/counterpoint, devious manipulation and some of the most obfuscated doubletalk that has ever appeared in an academic setting. Moore was also in the middle of many of the internal political battles that took place at the University of Texas, and some of them had national ramifications.
R. L. Moore was a powerful figure in the American mathematical community of the twentieth century. He is arguably the most powerful that was not imported, and he was involved in research, training high quality mathematicians and fought many political battles against anyone who disagreed with him. This biography is an honest appraisal of the man and the many ways he impacted the mathematical profession.
