5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Stunning!
This book, "The Man Who Knew Too Much" by Dick Russell is quite possibly THE very best JFK Assassination book ever written.
Russell makes a startling case for a JFK Assassination resolution with this wonderful, 40th anniversary edition of his book based on the life of Richard Case Nagell.
Nagell, in a word, was an enigma, Just like the assassination that he shed so much light on was also an enigma.......until now.
Nagell, a former CIA man and Military Intelligence agent (As well as KGB agent too!) trusted Dick Russell so much, that he met with him, and corresponded with him for many years. In each of these correspondences, Nagell revealed bits and pieces about what he knew about the Conspiracy to kill JFK, and make no mistake, Nagell knew alot!
Too Much in fact, hence the title of this book.
Nagell stumbled upon the actual assassination plots (Notice I said "Plots", plural) that resulted in the assassination in Dallas, of President John F Kennedy.
That in of itself is startling, but even more startling than that is the fact that Nagell warned FBI Director J Edgar Hoover about the plots to kill Kennedy two months BEFORE the assassination took place!
Russell meticulously puts all of the loose ends of Nagell's story together and forms a very plausible solution to the assassination, and exposes who very well could be the true forces behind the murder of JFK.
You may ask, "What makes this book any different from other JFK Assassination books?"
The answer is that the other JFK Assassination books didnt have PROVEN sources that were actually involved with the people who killed Kennedy. Russell's source (Nagell) WAS DIRECTLY INVOLVED! Nagell was not only involved with these people, but he actually infiltrated the group and tape recorded them talking about the assassination of Kennedy!
Nagell also claims to have a photo of him and Lee Harvey Oswald.
It is proven that Nagell and Oswald had lots in common......so much so that Nagell thought that he himself may have been a consideration for the Patsy in the murder. And this takes us full circle into how Nagell's story became public to begin with......Nagell purposely got himself arrested so that he would have an alibi for his whereabouts two months later when Kennedy was killed!
Nagell was "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and he was put into a horrible position that forced him to work with the KGB (The Soviet's equivalent of the CIA). In fact, Nagell was hired by the KGB to kill someone. Someone VERY familiar to JFK assassination researchers. Someone named Lee Harvey Oswald!
It is a long, immensely exciting story, but I will leave the rest for Russell to tell you about.
When you read this book, it will feel as if you are actually learning the truth, the REAL truth about the assassination of JFK. Its almost as if you have secretly broken into the government's secret vault marked "Truth about the JFK Assassination".
You will be transported right into the true circumstances that resulted in the assassination, and you will finally understand many of the aspects of the murder that have been a mystery for over 40 years.
If ever a book was worthy of being made into a Hollywood Blockbuster movie, it is this book. And it may well yet be made into a movie. It certainly is full of mystery, intrigue, excitement, and many other elements that make this book a great candidate for a big budget movie.
This book is the utlimate "Spy Novel".
It makes the James Bond movies pale in comparison, because this story is a true one!
For the most interesting, exciting, and startling JFK assassination book you will ever read, I highly recommend this book.
Did Richard Case Nagell stumble upon the actual JFK Assassination plot? I will leave that for you to decide. But while you are pondering that question, keep this in mind........ Nagell was finally about to tell his story to an official government committee, but was found dead in his apartment before he ever had a chance to tell the Commitee all that he knew about the case.
The mystery has only deepened with Nagell's death.
To fully understand the JFK murder mystery, this book is a must read!
By the way, what was the cause of Nagell's death?
Well, just between you and I, .....the cause of death was in all likelihood because Nagell truly was "The Man Who Knew Too Much".

5-0 out of 5 stars Undeniable. Read from the ARRB's Final Report for yourself..
I am now in my 4th year of ongoing research into the lives of JFK/RFK and their assassinations, which will soon culminate in the writing of a historical fiction volume(s). I have over 1,000 pages of typed notes on my laptop. My bibliography is 6 pages long to date. I have been to Dealey Plaza, and I have researched at the National Archives.
To summarize my opinion of this relatively unheard of, brilliantly presented account of Richard Case Nagell's life and its implications, I am simply going to show you one quote.
In 1994, the Assassinations Records Review Board (ARRB) attempted to contact Mr. Nagell pertaining to their investigation into the declassification of documents relating to JFK's death. They were the first governmental committee to do so. The Warren Commission never did, and neither did the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) in 1976. The ARRB dispatched notification to Mr. Nagell in October 1994, which was 2 years after Nagell first told his story to the author of this book, Dick Russell.
The ARRB's Final Report was released in 1995. This quote is from page 133 of that Report:
"Subsequently, the Review Board was informed that Nagell had been found dead in his Los Angeles apartment the day after the ARRB's letter was mailed. (The coroner ruled that he died as a result of natural causes.)"

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want the truth then read this book
Dick Russell's first edition of The Man Who Knew Too Much published in 1992 was a ground-breaking book, but the latest edition, just published in 2003, takes us even deeper into the almost unbelievable--but real--world of Richard Case Nagell. The latest edition includes information from recently released documents finally made available to the public, as well as information obtained from recent interviews, such as with a relative of David Atlee Phillips. It also contains new information about the circumstances surrounding the death of Nagell in 1995, an event that occurred with unfortunate timing--just as the Assassination Records Review Board was getting in touch with Nagell. Whether you've read many books about the JFK assassination, or are looking for your first in order to try to begin understanding what really led up to the killing of JFK and who was involved, this book is indispensible to understanding what happened 40 years ago. You will learn about Nagell and what he knew about the central and peripheral characters involved in the JFK assassination plot, such as Guy Banister, David Ferrie, and the anti-Castro Cubans who played a role in these history changing events. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Psalms in Israel's Worship
This volume is a companion to Psalms 1-59 by the same author. Kraus provides a fresh translation for each Psalm, with text critical notes, and sections on the "Form" of the Psalm, the "Setting" in the worship of Israel, "Commentary," and "Purpose and Thrust." In "Setting" and "Form" Kraus discusses the text, meter, and type of Psalm: Hymn of Thanksgiving, Royal Psalm, Liturgy, and so on. The Commentary, of course, provides insight into the meaning of the language of the Psalm. Very useful information is found in all the sections, but it is the last section, Purpose and Thrust, that distinguishes this commentary from others. In it Kraus describes the major themes of the Psalm, the ideas it works with, and in the case of those Psalms that are quoted in the New Testament, a discussion of the place of the Psalm in that literature. This is a legacy of the original from the Biblischer Kommentar series in German. Kraus has made a valuable contribution to the discussion of the Psalms in Israel's worship, and to the use of the Psalms in the New Testament. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic of Christian Principals
J Oswald Sanders brings us a delight and challenging book on what it means to be a Disciple or biblical Christian. Sanders brings to life the challenges and standards that Jesus has for out lives. He blends faith, wisdom, and examples for Christian history to help guide people back to the calling of Christ. Christianity hasn't failed because of its own flaws, but because of a lack of commitment. Sanders challenges his readers to renew the commitment and fire that turned the world upside down 2000 years ago. I've read this one over and over, and still love. A must read for anyone who wants to know why God gave us the Holy Spirit.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Holocaust of Spiritual Wisdom
Oswald Sanders was a missionary in Far East Asia, and field director of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship for many years. This book, Spiritual Discipleship,is one in a series of three on serious discipleship. The other two are Spiritual Maturity, and Spiritual Leadership (which Chuck Colson said was the best book on Christian leadership that he has read).

For Christians who have been demoralized by the shallow and superfluous popular "fluff" that abounds on the topic of discipleship, this series will come as cool water in a desert. Sanders deals with the brutal struggles in discipleship, and makes it clear there is no spiritual growth without a price. If we are not willing to pay the price--we will not grow towards maturity. As Oswald Sanders said during a series on dispcipleship at Gull Lake Bible Conference, "There are spiritual Christians, and there are unspiritual Christians. And most are unspiritual."

This kind of brutal language needs to be revived, in an age in which most Americans confuse Christian discipleship with self-help or self-optimization. In reality, the gate is still narrow, and the path hard, which leads to life (Matthew 7:14).

5-0 out of 5 stars It was the best book ever everyone has to read.
This past summer I worked at a Bible Camp and our theme for the summer was Carry your Cross. For staff training we all got the same book and had to read it and it was Spirital Disipel ship and then we had to split up into small groups and we discused the reading and we whent over the questions and it was aswem becuse I was in a group with a guy from my school that I didn't know well and never talked to because were in different grades. Well being in his group was awsome because he was very very smart and he new a lot about God and about the book. I enjoyed the book a lot becuase It brought up very good conversations with my fellow workers and we could sit and talk about what we read for hours so I encurage everyone to read this book that hasn't and if you have read it they should keep reading it over and over again becaue it will make you a much stronger Christian and a lot closer to God. You'll also learn a lot of stuff you don't know that you should know. So pick up the book today and start reading the day it arives. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Sermon on the Mount becomes real.
This incredible little book opens the door to the Sermon on the Mount. Chambers emphasizes that Christ's teachings are not just good words to live by - but a radical view of life that goes against our natural way of doing things. He makes that point throughout that the only way to live the life Jesus outlines is by knowing Him and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Chambers takes of the religious trappings of this teaching and covers it in a way that makes it real and meaningful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Paine.....
Very good book taking information from the account of the landlord for Marina Oswald at the time of the shooting....I read the whole thing....Interesting addtl info re: Dallas happening.

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY Creative Nonfiction
This book is an example of creative nonfiction as it is written like a novel. The operative word here is "creative". This book is written as the title suggests from Ruth Paine's point of view. Both the author and interview subject have placed much more importance on her relationship with the Oswalds than was really there. Ruth seems to think that she was an integral part of what happened as if she could have stopped Lee. The truth is she had only met them at a party in early 1963 and even though Marina was living with her; Ruth barely knew the couple.

Mallon makes a lot of assumptions in this book like stating that Oswald went back to the boarding house to pick up the pistol "he used minutes later to kill the patrolman, J. D. Tippet who stopped him near the corner of Tenth and Patton." The gun Oswald had on him at the time of his arrest at the Texas Theater had a defective firing pin so he couldn't have shot anyone with it. Witnesses were goaded into identifying Oswald during the police line-up. I might remind readers that it has never been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Lee killed Kennedy or Officer Tippet.

I must admit that Ruth's obsession with Marina before and after the assassination was VERY INTERESTING and the only part of the book that seemed based on reality.

If you like historical comedy, this is the book for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Small Book, Not a Slight One
Thomas Mallon has written about Ruth Paine, the woman who found she had harboured one of the most infamous criminals of all time- Lee Harvey Oswald. Whatever you believe about the Kennedy assassination, you'll appreciate Mallon's glimpse at what it was like to be standing right next to one of the most important, disruptive, and tragic events of the twentieth century. Ruth Paine is revealed to be a woman with a very sure sense of who she is and what she stands for, a woman who- almost alone among survivors truly close to the assassination- refuses to be defined by her proximity to what happened that day in Dealey Plaza.

Mallon's skill at conveying a sense of what the world was like in 1963 is remarkable, and very welcome. In several paragraphs, he details just how un-sophisticated a planet we lived on then; it was a day of hand-typed copies instead of Xeroxes and the 8-cent stamp instead of e-mail. As someone who was around at that time, I've often wished that more authors dealing with this topic would take more care to remind readers that the world was a very different place then. Forgetting that has led many assassination researchers and theorists down many a specious and unproductive pathway. One example (which is not to be found in Mallon's work) is Michael Paine's ownership of a Minox camera. Today's researchers have made the most prodigious hay out of that, never suspecting the truth- the Minox was heavily promoted and sold in the early Sixties as a toy for the well-off (which Mr. Paine was, despite his unassuming lifestyle), advertised in 'National Geographic'. The camera- in the context of its time- was no more meaningful than possession of a laptop is today. Yes, both COULD be used for nefarious purposes, but most owners use their laptops for peaceful, private purposes, and so did most Minox buffs. Mallon's work is always scrupulous in remembering the difference between Now and Then, and it is most refreshing.

Ruth Paine seems to have given much of herself to Mallon, and therefore to us. She is revealed to have been very pained at several questions and revelations that came up both before and during the interviews for the book, but she seems never to have cut off the author's lines of inquiry, nor even to have directed them, answering frankly. Touchingly, Mallon's research revealed things to Ruth Paine even she had not known about the central event of her life, and her reactions to them are interesting indeed.

Mallon has not produced a perfect book- there does not seem to have been much direct questioning of Mrs. Paine on some of the topics that assassination researchers raise the most questions about (that Minox, for one), and so the book will give a great deal of unnecessary ammunition to those who feel that Mrs. Paine has something to hide, rather than clearing matters once and for all. And there are a few places where Mallon does not make clear that he's quoting from previously published material, giving rise to the impression that he interviewed people he did not. While a reader familiar with the subject will be able to discern immediately that, say, Robert Oswald did not grant Mallon an interview, the author waits a bit to let the average reader in on that.

Still, it's a remarkable look at a remarkable witness to history, a woman who has had staggering events roll over her, and like the slender reed she resembles, has sprung back, ready for new life, ready to bend in new directions, respecting the force of the storm, but quietly, serenely confident in her ability to survive it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Too Bad It's Out of Print
This is a beautiful guide to the classic television series, The Prisoner. It is richly illustrated with many color photographs from the series, and its location of Portmeirion, Wales. It's a terrific vehicle to re-visit the series and learn about what it took to produce this program. Since A&E is currently re-releasing The Prisoner on VHS and DVD, it is too bad that this book is out of print, since I think viewers would enjoy some of the background that this book provides.

At the heart of the book is an in-depth summary of the 17 episodes that make up The Prisoner. However, it is more than just an episode guide. The book also contains a brief interview with Patrick McGoohan (circa 1989), a series of essays about the program, a description of Danger Man (McGoohan's secret agent series before The Prisoner), a biography of McGoohan, background on the creation and filming process, information about the real village of Portmeirion, and information about Six of One, the official Prisoner fan club.

It's a very informative and fun book written by two fans, who are still able to turn a critical eye on the series. The essays about the series by various authors are also very enjoyable. I especially loved the one by Isaac Asimov. The one negative I have about the book, is that there seemed to be a printing problem with my book. In the chapter outlining the creation and production of the series, I had one section repeated twice, and another section appears to have been omitted. In spite of the printing defect, this is a fun book for Prisoner fans, and if you can find a copy I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Source Book!
This book has a wealth of source material. Sometimes watching the series can be a bit nebulous. This book easily aides you in knowing what each episode wished to convey. There are a massive amount of photos for each episode, and in making. The book also has several in dept articles in which Patrick McGoohan tells his motivations, and about making the series. If you are a Prisoner fan, you know that information about is pretty scare, then again it was all about information wasn't it?

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best book to date, about the Prisoner series.
A superb collection of photos & an interesting & fairly recent interview with the master McGoohan.A MUST for every collector or appreciator. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures, but think for yourself
And in the center ring, standing somewhere between 5'8" and 5'11", Lee "The Assassin" Oswald!! And right there beside him, the man who has solved the Kennedy assassination more times than swiss cheese has holes, Robert "The Brain" Groden!! Now after a certain point, everyone feels that way. Bob Groden must be given his due: He has managed to squirrel away quite a collection of JFK visual materials, and the results are pretty stimulating. But the biggest problem comes in the text. Some of the sources and conclusions in this "definitive" text are open to quite a bit of speculation. Interpretation (this picture shows this, here we see Clay Shaw, and OHMYGoodness a Grassy Knoll shooter) could be easily contested.

This book is great for the coffee table as people WILL pick it up and WILL have great fun discussing it. Just be careful what kinds of words a picture can put into your mouth. Bob, I'd love to hear from you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting for both union insiders and non-unionists
This is another labor community insider book directed toward labor union leaders and their strategists and written by the same. The motivation is the reversal of the sagging fortunes of labor unions. Many of the articles focus on the need for grassroots activity by existing union members and community supporters. Several union campaigns utilizing members are examined in detail. Union support organizations such as the Garment Women Justice Center are described. Serveral articles examine subtleties of the motivations of non-unionists to vote for a union. An interesting observation is that white collar and technical workers are turned off by the potential for conflict when joining a union, which is interesting in light of the fact that unions have always relied on confrontation as their tool of last resort. The main point of the editors is that union tactics and actions make a large difference in organizing success. The second point is that unions must remake themselves into organizing bodies and avail themselves of the wisdom contained in these articles. But for non-union insiders reading this book, many chinks appear when looking at the articles in totality. For example, one article shows that belonging to two community organiztions lowers the desire to join a union, yet many articles tout labor-community coalitions. In one case where community connections were leveraged to the fullest to win a union contract, it is admitted that may have been a one-time occurrence. A large and confusing point that leaps out from these articles is, just what is a union. Is it a centralized business that collects fees from subsidiaries, demands adherence to policies from the CEO, and provides services? Or is a union a legally recognized association of workers at a locale that affiliates with a national body but retains sovereignty? Statements that workers "are" the union hide more than they reveal. If workers are the union, can they insist that national unions remain committed to a servicing model? If workers are the union, how can some national unions literally require local unions to focus on recruitment? Claiming that workers are the union can be a demotivator for joining a union. After all, it is workers who have unsuccessfully dealt with employers on their own that want to join unions; now they want support, not abandonment. The editors and authors may complain that this book is not about "what is a union," but is only about subtle strategy. If so, they need to put a "Nonunionists need not read" label on the cover. Actually the book is worth reading by all interested in the situation of labor not only on its educational merits but also for the questions that it can engender for non-insiders. Who knows, maybe their next book can be "What is a Union." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The law and the light
One of the greatest versions of the Bible ever printed. A daily old and new testament reading along with a selection from Chambers. Reading the law and the light together is the only way to read the Book. They are tied together by a reading from the greatest Christian wiriter of the last two hundred years. You can take the paper back version anywhere in the world with you and never be far from Christ. If you can find one, get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars exceptional devotional
I have been reading this Bible through for 9 years and love it more each year. The insight into the Word from Oswald Chambers only enhances what the Holy Spirit shows us in the Word. Oswald Chambers loved Jesus Christ and listened so intently to the Holy Spirit as He spoke to him, that the devotionals placed before each day's reading only deepen the spiritual insight. How many books can you say that when you finish it on December 31, you can't wait to start reading it all over again on January 1?!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The documents speak for themselves
As a intern for Dr. Newman on this particular book, I spent countless hours searching for documents in the National Archives - I know first hand the length he went to provide accurate details. Dr. Newman recounts the interesting story of a dark point in our nation's history. He is very careful not to speculate on the assassination of Kennedy - he deals only with the facts before him - CIA and FBI documents that display what they knew about Oswald. He leaves the rest to the 'assassination buffs'

5-0 out of 5 stars Oswald and CIA: was there a connection? Author thinks so.
This is an important book in the Kennedy assassination genre. It contains the text of CIA documents not previouslypublished, attempting to establish a CIA connection withLee Harvey Oswald and subsequent efforts on the part of the CIA to conceal this connection through tampering with itsOswald files. The book is flawed by poor editing, andfrom time to time the author makes great leaps in his logic, but for all that, it is well worth the time spent reading. The book breaks off after Oswald's death. One can onlyhope that Mr. Newman writes another volume addressing post-assassination events, including the controversy surroundingthe bona fides of KGB defector Yuriy Nosenko and his claimto have been the KGB officer supervising the Oswald file inRussia ...
