5-0 out of 5 stars Useful for OB-GYN residents
I think my entire class of OB-GYN residents bought this our intern year. I still use it now as a third year. It covers a lot of the information you can get pimped on, and explains it well. It is small enough to carry around, so those slow rotations, where you have 5-10 minutes throughout the day, this is a good resource. The only negative things I notice is that there is a lot of information, so you have to read instead of skim. And the book cannot fit into my white coat pocket. But definately one of the books I rely upon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast delivery.
Came quicker than expected...within a few days. Also, was just as described - a new book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for New RNs in Women's Health/L&D/Maternity Depts, etc.
I'm a new Rn (13 months) working on the L&D unit at a large teaching hospital in Orlando, FL and I've been researching maternity nursing software for a new smartphone/PDA that I plan to purchase. The search lead me to the Skyscape website and this Johns Hopkins manual. Skyscape allows you to download a trial form of the software onto your pc so that you can view the product before buying. This is the 5th item that i've viewed today alone and I'm so incredibly HOOKED on the manual that I plan to buy it from Amazon immediately and purchase the pda software (though I am a little apprehensive about the software now based on reading the second reviewers comments on here).Anyways, I will be precepting a graduate nurse in a couple of weeks and I will totally recommend that she purchase this manual as well because it provides an AWESOME, EASY TO READ, TO THE POINT, description, instruction and medication treatment (dosage, side effects & contraindications) for EVERYTHING that I've encountered thus far on L&D - and I've only read the section on "Normal Labor and Delivery, Operative Delivery, and Malpresentations".I wish I had read this when I first started working on the floor because it would've provided a GREAT transition into this field of nursing from nursing school. The information provided is SHORT, SPECIFIC and VERY CLEARLY WRITTEN. Even though the manual is written for med students, it totally provides a great learning tool for nurses as well because it will help me with anticipating the need of the physician when providing intrapartum care on the labor floor, which in turn increases provision of effective patient care.A big THANK YOU to the authors ! :o))

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book for your rotations
This is a compact book following the same formula for the other manuals from this collection (Ex Washington manual). It is not a treatise and it is not intended to be so, quite the contrary. It is a pocket book, easy to carry and to manipulate. It cover all the topics you might need for your day to day life in the hospital in a short , but not too short, and up to date format. I like the fact that you can read any chapter in less than 30 minutes. I recommend this book for medical students in need of a compact book to carry during the GOB internship or for revising topics before an exam.

1-0 out of 5 stars an utter waste of time (and EXPENSIVE)
Do NOT buy the PDA version of this classic manual. The manufacturer shipped me a mismarked (wrong Operating System) shrink-wrap package with a warning that opening it would disallow a refund. The correct product had been mailed despite the mislabeling, but the convoluted registration process was time-consuming and produced an INVALID activation code. The purported SmartPatch fix also failed. Now, 6 days after paying for the product, it still doesn't work and the short East-coast technical support hours mean that MAYBE tomorrow, the 7th day after purchase, I MIGHT be able to use this product. Had this manufacturer been less paranoid about piracy, using a more standard serial # activation (like OTHER manufacturers), I'd be a happy customer recommending their product. ... Read more

Product Description

Andrea Zanzotto is widely considered Italy’s most influential living poet. The first comprehensive collection in thirty years to translate this master European poet for an English-speaking audience, The Selected Poetry and Prose of Andrea Zanzotto includes the very best poems from fourteen of his major books of verse and a selection of thirteen essays that helps illuminate themes in his poetry as well as elucidate key theoretical underpinnings of his thought. Assembled with the collaboration of Zanzotto himself and featuring a critical introduction, thorough annotations, and a generous selection of photographs and art, this volume brings an Italian master to vivid life for American readers.

“Now, in [this book], American readers can get a just sense of  [Zanzotto’s] true range and extraordinary originality.”—Eric Ormsby, New York Sun

“What I love here is the sense of a voice directly speaking. Throughout these translations, indeed from early to late, the great achievement seems to be the way they achieve a sense of urgent address.”—Eamon Grennan, American Poet

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased!
Fast delivery. The book is new as described. Will definitely do business with this seller again.

3-0 out of 5 stars An improvement
Here is an honest review:
Foundations 2 is a much better book than Foundations 1.However that doesn't say much.Foundations 1 was basically an overpriced doorstop.Foundations 2 is a better read with significant improvement in writing style and applicability. However it still does not address very significant shortfalls in the original text.Namely that evidenced based applications of OMM and specific osteopathic evaluation techniques in the various specialties are not addressed adequately. The specialties are addressed entirely too theoretically with little real-life doctor applications. It does not flow as a text should but rather sputters and stops only to chug back to life a few pages later sounding in need of a serious oil change. The principle reason this book sells is because it is required by most of the DO schools.Otherwise students would not buy such a Titanic book. Unfortunately the new edition of the book should be out soon (next two to three years) and doubtfully will be much of an improvement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive resource
This book is well worth purchasing. It is very logical and comprehensive. It provides a holistic framework for effective health care regardless of the health practitioners profession.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning and experienced osteopaths.
This is the long awaited basic textbook for osteopathic medicine. It is surprisingly complete, covering philosophy, history, research, and manipulative techniques. The beginning osteopathic student may find itmost useful for its practical discussion on the techniques--high velocity, myofascial release, etc. I believe it is also helpful in standardizing ourterminology, which will make it easier when taking board exams or talkingwith colleagues from other osteopathic schools. It includes contributorswell known within the osteopathic community, including Michael and WilliamKuchera, Melicien Tettambel,Eileen DiGiovanna, and many others. As a family practice resident I frequently turn to this textbook first whenI want to know more about how to treat a patient or when preparing lecturesfor students and housestaff.

5-0 out of 5 stars The osteopathic manipulative therapy bible!
This text is actually required reading for most if not all osteopathic medical students. It is a 'textbook', however, and hence completely (sometimes exhaustively!) comprehensive. But it is easy to read so thatanyone with an interest in OMT will get a methodic how-to for myriadtechniques, also a thorough history of osteopathic medicine to boot!Oneof my OMT professors at the University of Health Sciences College ofOsteopathic Medicine wrote or co-wrote a few of the chapters so of course,I think those are the best! If you are looking for an educational approachto learning manipulation and the reasons behind it, this is a valuableresouce. ... Read more

Product Description
Literature often draws on foods and patterns of eating, and symbolism based on them, because of their fundamental place in juman life and culture. Furthermore, literature has close historical ties to the culture in which it is created and may well portray good and bad times in the farming year. English and French novels have often associated a plentiful supply of food with well-being and festivity, while shortages have represented deprivation and misery. National and regional variations are important in food's representation from the gluttonous feasts of the Roman Empire to the 'tasteless' or 'overcooked' image of English food today. These exaggerated perceptions are considered in conjunction with many other details of European writings on food in articles based around specific cultures. ... Read more

This book explains the importance of food to ancient Greek comedy: it was a medium through which comedy could represent the material, social, agricultural, political and religious worlds to the Greek city-state. The text also contains translations of hundreds of comic fragments; and it reassesses the division of comedy into Sicilian and Attic Old, Middle, and New. ... Read more
