3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, considering
I just took the FACS Praxis II exam today, and I used these flash cards to prepare. While the categories are correct, some of the information was insufficient or different.Overall, the theorist information on the cards is good, but needs to be supplemented. No questions asked about Havinghurst (he wasn't even mentioned in either my Ed Psych or Human Development & Learning Theory texts from my classes either). Make sure you review others from whatever education psychology type class you have taken- you'll want to be familiar with all the major theorists. There seemed to be a lot of questions about consumer finances, some of which is covered here and some of which is not.The stages of a family questions did not reference the same set of names that these cards use... I am not sure where the stages that were used come from. They just were not the same as what I studied. The nutrition cards worked well, but I would add some studying about the needs of different ages and genders.

Overall, these cards are a good starting point, but you will need to supplement your information.I am a mom of teens who returned to school to pursue a Master's in Teaching; I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration my first go-around.That background did help, as did being a mom, having worked and volunteered in schools, and some of my general education classes in the teaching program I am currently in.

Since there are few guides to prepare for this exam, I would probably use these again but do a little extra research concurrently.I imagine that ets changes up the exams some, so you may get some different questions from the ones I had.BTW, I suspect I passed, but of course I'll need to wait four weeks for the official results.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
These flashcards were a waste of my time. I studied them all and about maybe two questions were on the test, and nothing else related

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool
I needed a way to prepare for the cert. exam , and a friend recommended this book. It was great, very complete and concise, it covered nearly everything you would need. The supporting resources were great (online) , especially for a newbie (I'm not, with 36 yrs of teaching). The only thing I wish it had was a practice test, maybe an online one to give some feedback with. I passed the test with no problem, I would recommend it to a friend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Take charge of your life - explore your options!
Highlighting actual professionals working in the field of family and consumer sciences (home economics) was the most interesting part in writing this book. Through the many profiles, it is evident that the careers in this field are extensive and interesting. They include theoccupations of teaching and education but much more. For example, the traditional subject areas (foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, child development, housing and interiors, human relationships, health and family living) are explored in each of five career fields: business, education and communications, human services, science and technology, and the arts. The pros and cons of entrepreneurship and types of businesses that lend themselves well to self-employment are included.

In addition to spotlighting actual careers, thirteen chapters cover general career education information, such as choosing a career, developing skills for job success, and finding and keeping a job. These chapters incorporate the skills that employers look for in new employees.

Careers in Focus - Family and Consumer Sciences is a textbook intended for secondary study, as well as vocational and technical education studies. However, its information is specific to anyone who is choosing a career, finding a job, and/or wanting to be successful in the workplace.

My background is in education. I have taught in Missouri and Wisconsin schools for over 25 years. My special interest in the field of family and consumer sciences has inspired me to write several cookbooks and guides to nutrition and physical firness.

May this book inspire you to choose a career that will be right for you!
