Extractions: Motorsport has grown comfortable with the massive infusions of cash from the megaconglomerates of the Tobacco Industry. One doesn't need to be a social scientist to predict that many in racing are going to be upset by a decision that could remove tobacco money from sports. Of course drivers and team owners are going to come out in defense of their sponsors. Just like politicians, they're paid by them! The Tobacco Industry doesn't care about racing. It is an advertising outlet for them. That's all. What will happen if tobacco money goes away from motorsport? Things will change. But let's take NASCAR as an example. The most popular and fastest growing sport in America is not going to go away. It's not popular because it's sponsored by Winston. Another sponsor could step in. RJR itself owns a lot more than cigarette manufacturing. The Nabisco or Kraft Cup may not have the same ring to it, but NASCAR is large and healthy. It will survive. Perhaps there will be a period of adjustment. They're doing it in other countries and motorsport is alive and well. The Tobacco Industry cares even less about people than racing. Their record of lies to the public is truly epic in scale, (-second only to the governments). They have denied for decades what we all know is true: smoking is the major cause of heart and lung disease today. The heads of the major tobacco corporations sat before congress just last year and told us that nicotine is not addictive!

You can see and read how a nice guy finished first, many times. The "Mark DonohueTribute" reunion will be on September 5-7, 2003 at Watkins Glen, NY, during the Zippo Vintage Weekend. You will find a great deal of information, and it will be updated periodically. I have been contacted by many of Marks team mates from Penske Racing and they are planning on coming to the Reunion.
