Unless anyone makes claims to the contrary, the last race of this season will be on March 15! This is the last race of the Redwood Cyclocross Series and will be worth double points. Check out teambigfoot.net for all the details. Oostmalle, Belgium- The last race of the season mostly is a day of fun and games for all riders. Fooling around at the start, happy to be able to call it a day. Under a bright and sunny sky we again saw a very fast race full of suspense. Ben Berden won with only a handful of seconds on Bart Wellens. Ben's team mate Arne Daelmans took the last podium spot.
Extractions: 25 November, 2002 - Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, Watsonville, CA. Not to disappoint the masses for the final event, Course Master Rex Boyes configured a 2.2 mile loop consisting of dozens of cleverly placed hairpins & otherwise tight off-camber turns, all the while avoiding any sense of gratuitiousness in his selection of traditional 'cross elements. The course doubled back on itself often enough that spectators were able to watch at least 60% of the course at any given time without straying more than 150-odd feet from either the Start/Finish area, the food tent, the awards podium, or the copious numbers of vendor tents lining the course course adjacent to the one & only double barrier section. Had one graced our presence, the experience would have been enough to make even the most jaded UCI Federation Committee member to take a drag on his hand-rolled cigarette, flick the ash at his side, and mutter, "is good!". The $30,000+ of merchandise and cash accumulated by Sponsorship Director Nicole Amaral for the overall prizelist was ably distributed from the podium by Event Director Jenny Robinson in the form of bags of awards, raffle prizes, and flying bags of Santa Cruz Roasting Company Coffee. Multi-talented Women A overall winner

Extractions: Monoc is the product of our desire to build a better race bike. This passion exists at two levels the technical level, as we challenge the boundaries of contempory design and manufacturing the personal level, as we are cyclists ourselves and believe in offering our products at a fair and affordable price At Monoc we eat, sleep, and breathe bikes Our chief designer spent decades working on the Pro scene . He spent time as the head mechanic at Hitachi, PDM, and other Tour and Giro teams. He has also designed custom frames for several pro riders including Yates, Lauritzen, and Redant. Drawing on this vast wealth of experience we have a hands-on knowledge of what works and what doesn't. We don't just employ designers making products that simply look nice in the showroom and on paper, cost a fortune, and then let you down when they're given some abuse. We don't skimp on the details. Every road bike in our range comes equipped as standard with top of the range Michelin tyres , as we believe that the tyre is your lifeline between you and the road, so you need good tyres you can rely on - Not cheap tyres that you'll replace as soon as you leave the shop.
Intro To 'Cross cyclocross For the Novice Dave Carr, Nov 1995 Introduction, Ah, cyclocross. Ifyou've never tried cyclocross before, let me tell you it can be a blast. http://members.aol.com/napavelo/intro.htm
Extractions: Dave Carr, Nov 1995 Introduction Ah, cyclocross. Ancient sport of the Euro-pro. Gray, nasty weather. Tough riders on skinny tires. I'd trade a pair of spiked Sidis for the chance to do one of those races. If you've never tried cyclocross before, let me tell you: it can be a blast. It helps build your bike-handling skills and keep your fitness during winter, while keeping you entertained at a time when you might otherwise find it hard to train. Cyclocross races are short off-road races in a circuit-race format: 1- to 2-mile courses; short, steep hills; and a variety of surfaces from pavement to mud and sand. The primary feature that all 'cross races share and that sets them apart from the other disciplines is obstacles that force you to get off your bike. Sometimes you will leap over something and get back on, other times you'll run with the bike for some distance. Now, if you're picturing those hike-a-bike sections in NORBA races, rewind and play it back at double speed. Cyclocross is a kind of dirt time-trial criterium where the key is to maintain high speed no matter what comes. Photo: Mark Dawson/Fat Tire Fotos The dismount Watch the pros do it and it's breathtaking. Riders come swooping up to a big fence that anyone in his right mind would gingerly walk around. In an instant they're off the bike and running just as fast as they were riding, meanwhile lifting the bike in a gentle arc through the air over the fence, which flashes by under their feet as if it wasn't there, then whoops! and they're in the saddle again and away down the road before you've even had a chance to read the number on their jersey.

Extractions: Cyclocross Clinic When: Fridays (starting Sept. 6th), 6:00 pm and 4:00 pm after Daylight Savings Time. Starting in October we will switch to Tuesdays. Light is at a premium so we plan to start 'crossin at 6 sharp. Location: North End of Sugarhouse Park. Why: Because you can never practice enough. The format will be 30 minutes or so of barrier practice, to be followed by laps around the park for another 30-60 minutes. Techniques and training tips (not the good ones though) will be presented by Dr. Cross, with a little help from their friends. We will bring the barriers and the attitude. You need a bike, 'cross or mountain. Some bike shoes that you can also run in. Mtn. bike shoes are perfect, road shoes are not. If this is your first time 'crossin, take off your front bottle cage since it will interfere with lessons 3 and 4. If you really want to be up to speed, read Simon Burney's book, watch the 96-97 'Cross Worlds tape about 10 times and visit Patrick O'Grady's home page . "It's a joke, son." We will cover the following basic skills: 1. The high-speed dismount with step through.
