Extractions: Don Garlits did not qualify this past weekend in Florida, but it wasnt for a lack of effort. Don did manage to do a couple of very notable things, among them, he made the fastest run of his illustrious career, a stunning 323.04 mph pass that was considerably faster than he had even gone before (318.54 last year at Indy). But the run that really showed what kind of driver he is came on his last pass, a run that ended with a 4.79 second elapsed time. On that run, the car got out of the groove and made a hard move to the left, toward the wall. Big, displaying all of his years of driving experience, pulled the car back into the center of the lane, straightened it out and still went 4.79.
