Extractions: THE SOCIETY OF HWARANG This site is sponsored by the oldest executive protection training academy in the country: Executive Security International (ESI). However, THE SOCIETY OF THE HWA RANG is a free association of martial artists devoted to the arts as a profession. Primarily, but not intentionally, the members of THE SOCIETY come from backgrounds in the Korean arts of Hapkido, Hwa Rang Do, Kuk Sool Won, Tukong Moosul and Tae Kwon Do. THE SOCIETY 's affiliation with the soft Korean arts is an accident of history due to the personal narrative of its founder, Bob Duggan who became a devotee of Hapkido/Hwa Rang Do in 1968, and in 1980 founded ESI. It was in the year of '68 that he and his close friend, Vicente Montenegro were initiated into the arts as the first students of Grand Master Joo Sang Lee, and in 1972 came under the personal tutelage of his younger brother, Grand Master Joo Bang Lee, founder of the World Hwa Rang Do Association. THE SOCIETY OF THE HWARANG is open to martial artists of every background. THE SOCIETY is devoted to seeking knowledge in the fighting arts, to critique our most cherished assumptions with the goal of establishing rigorous standards of excellence, and apply these concepts to professional careers in the field of protection, security, law enforcement and military careers.

As early as 2707 BC, the Korean warlord Chi-Woo also known as Jaoji, reigned as the "god of war" in what is now mainland China. Since the majority of Koreans migrated and settled in the Korean Peninsula, there have been more than a thousand recorded instances of foreign

Extractions: @import "ksw2.css"; Official site of The World Kuk Sool Association The roots of Kuk Sool date back to the very beginning of Korea with "Sado Mu Sool" which means family or tribal martial art. The next martial art to develop was "Bulkyo Mu Sool", or "Buddhist martial art". Shortly afterwards came "Koong Joong Mu Sool" which translates to 'Royal Court Martial Art'. These are the three segments of ancient Korean martial arts from which the techniques of Kuk Sool evolved. Although its origin may be traced back to antiquity, the present Kuk Sool system was formally devised only recently. Grand master In Hyuk Suh spent more than fifty years in single minded practice and research in order to learn, compile, master and organize the more than 3,600 techniques that comprise Kuk Sool. He founded the Kuk Sool Won in 1961 and took it to the United States in 1974. The World Kuk Sool Association now has its headquarters in Houston, Texas, and had grown to include more than 250 member schools is Asia, Europe and the Americas, and continues to increase in strength and numbers daily.

Extractions: What is Kuk Sool Won? The name "Kuk Sool Won" is best understood by breaking it down into its three sections. "Kuk" translates to "nation", "state", or "country". "Sool" literally means "martial art technique." However, "Sool's" implied meaning goes deeper to include the mental, spiritual and philosophical heritage of Korean Martial Arts. "Won" means institution of association. The entire name, "Kuk Sool Won" can be translated to "National Martial Arts Association." Kuk Sool is a comprehensive Martial Arts system that is derived from the rich and varied Martial Arts techniques and traditions that have arisen in Korea through the ages. Kuk Sool is not a sport, nor is it simply another oriental self defense method. Kuk Sool is a complete martial art that is dedicated to the cultivation of mental strength and well being and to preservation of traditional Korean Martial Arts. The basis of Kuk Sool is the development and use of "Ki" (internal power). Therefore Kuk Sool is considered an internal martial art system. However, to classify Kuk Sool under any one name is incorrect due to its vastness. For self defense, Kuk Sool is unsurpassed. It combines kicking, punching, throwing, falling, choking, joint locking and a myriad of weapons techniques into a beautiful and dynamic hard-soft' style, emphasizing speed and fluidity. In conjunction with physical training, meditation, breathing, acupressure and acupunction techniques are employed to improve and maintain health, develop internal power and retard the ageing process.

SahDoh MuSool was popular among the ancient Korean tribes, city-states and kingdoms formed in the Korean Peninsula and parts of what is now China. This was well before the first unified Korean kingdom of Ko-Cho Sun was founded in 2333 BC by the legendary king, DahnGoon WahngGuhm. SahDoh MuSool was mainly passed down from one generation to the next by family lines. Later, SahDoh MuSool has been further developed and made widespread by militias voluntarily formed by the common people who often fought in battles to defend their villages. Popular traditional sports activities such as Taekkyon, and Ssireum are considered to have originated from SahDoh MuSool .
