Extractions: (Home of Westcott's Wrestling Archives) I have been a fan of professional wrestling since 1989. I started watching WWF Prime Time Wrestling on the USA Network and have been a fanatic ever since. Favorite wrestlers: my all-time favorite wrestler would have to be Barry Windham. He was great at being both a heel (rulebreaker/bad guy) and a babyface (fan favorite/good guy). My favorite Japanese wrestler is Jushin "Thunder" Liger. I remember watching Liger on WCW Main Event in 1991 when he started his feud with Brian Pillman over the WCW World Light Heavyweight Championship. My favorite wrestler in WWE right now is Chris Benoit. The man is simply awesome! Favorite promotions: I like a lot of Japanese professional wrestling and some Lucha Libre as well. I was also sad to hear about the folding of both the USWA in Tennessee and ECW. I also loved Smoky Mountain Wrestling when it was around. (Thanks, Jim Cornette.) But I never thought I would see the day when Vince McMahon's WWF purchased Ted Turner's WCW and turned the pro wrestling world upside down. I really want to get into the pro wrestling business someday as a play-by-play announcer/color commentator or maybe as a historian/researcher. My favorite announcers/commentators are Mike Tenay, Michael Cole, Joey Styles, Chris Cruise, Craig Johnson, Scott Hudson, Joe Pedicino, Jesse Ventura, Lance Russell and the late Gordon Solie.

Wrestling is big business. Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling (WCW) is on TBS and TNT. Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation (WWF) is on the USA Network. The WCW reaches an average of 300,000 viewers for its pay-per-view events. The WWF is building a 1,000-room casino hotel in Las Vegas. Both groups sell action figures, neckties, and greeting cards. Two WWF wrestlers"Mankind" and "The Rock"currently have best-selling autobiographies. Vince McMahon just announced the formation of a professional football league, the XFL, which will debut in 2001. Last August, Jesse Ventura, the Governor of Minnesota, stepped back into the ring as a "guest referee" for the WWF's Summerslam." He made $1 to $2 million on video sales and the use of his name.
