Ultramarathon Canada Termination ten years. His one person ultramarathon Canada publication, whichhe produced at home on his computer, was being discontinued. A http://www.ncra-ottawa.com/ontherun-news/blaikie.html
Extractions: Recently I received a notice in the mail from David Blaikie, NCRA member, who has been a contributor to OTR for several years, as our official ultra distance correspondent, previous to that an author of several articles of interest. Unfortunately, the notice from David was an obituary. Not about a person, but about something he had put his heart and soul into for ten years. His one person " Ultramarathon Canada " publication, which he produced at home on his computer, was being discontinued. A labour of love had been transformed into a task of monumental proportions. No small wonder, if you've ever read an issue. There are several running newsletters "out there," circulated by luminaries like Joe Henderson or Hal Higdon, or underground publications like Peter Wallan's "Hockomock Swamp Rat" that have carved their niche in the running movement. "Ultramarathon Canada" was somewhat unique. David Blaikie is perhaps this country's foremost running historian, and if I were searching for information on distance running in Canada, he would be the first person to call. For as long as I've known him, David has been enthralled by the exploits of ultra distance running, especially the multi-day races held in the late 1800's and into this century. While famous runners from decades past still manage to have their names mentioned from time to time, Dave has championed the cause of ultra runners from the 19th centuryathletes obscured by the public's preference for marquee sports. Dave did the same for today's ultrmarathon athletes from Canada especially, but occasionally from other countries.

Extractions: Lonely struggle tests body's limits Chad Ogden Ultramarathon takes runners through a 42.7 mile scenic Kodiak ordeal KODIAK- Frank Bozanich ran along the winding, gravel road, feet kicking up little puffs of dust with each step. He was as alone as Adam in the Garden of Eden, a solitary man surrounded by God's own crystal blue sky, chiseled, snow-caped mountains and a vast ocean, shimmering under a glowing orange sun. Eagles were the sentries of the road, perched high on naked tree branches, their stern faces watchful. The eagles, symbol of America's freedom, scowled down on the embodiment of it: A lone runner in open country. From the early morning darkness and chill through late morning's soothing warmth Bozanich ran, as free as those birds, rounded calf muscles bulging like cheeks stuffed with chewing tobacco, short steps with slight side-to-side motion. Frank Bozanich (above) maintained a 6:30 pace through 30 miles enroute to breaking the Chad Ogden Ultramarathon record by more than 15 minutes.
