It's a great way to keep in shape. If you have been looking for something different to do to compliment or start a new workout program, then Wallyball may be just the thing. It is something like "volleyball" inside a racketball court, but that's when the similarities end. Wallyball can be a pretty fast paced game played with a 'softer ball' than what is used in volleyball. The best thing is that you don't worry about the wind, rain, cold or heat. So this is a game you can play year round! The trick is you can play off the walls, so more angles are involved and the ball can spin away from you unexpectedly and there lies the fun in the game. You can't try to "power" the ball at your opponent, because then you will probably either hit 'two walls' or the back wall, which is out of bounds... No equipment is needed by you just show up with some good tennis or cross-training type sneakers on and you are ready to play.. Running or thin soled sneakers are not advisable...as you want good lateral traction to play.

Out of bounds is when a ball while crossing the net hits the ceiling, back wall of opponent's side or two walls consecutively on service, volley or block. Ceiling and back wall on own side is in bounds if own player touches it. Server cannot spike or block in (4) four person play. If server catches the ball on service toss, the server can replay the serve. The service must be a clean contact with the ball. Pushing the ball or rolling the ball off the fingers (paint brush) is not allowed. Service order must be kept prior to serving. If a ball on 1st or 2nd hit goes into the gallery, a replay is awarded. If the ball is only partly across the net, and the opponent hits it, it is good. Touching the net is not allowed by players, unless the ball is driven into the net and the net hits the player.

You do not need to be a volleyball player to play wallyball, you just need a basic understanding of the game to play. Bumping, setting, spiking and serving all apply here, just as they do in volleyball, but shots that usually would be out of play in volleyball(i.e. a shanked pass) could carom off the wall and score a point for your team! Why I started this party I have been playing for about ten years, and I participated in various wallyball tournaments, leagues, and other people's parties until one day they all stopped. So I decided to get together with two of my friends and start our own semi-monthly party during the Fall and Winter months. We drew a consistent crowd, and decided to continue our parties throughout the Summer. I don't do this for the money, I just want to offer a place for people to get together and play as others did before me. Since this is the age of the internet, I decided to put our party schedule on line and provide a little more information about the sport of wallyball.
