Extractions: Wallyball Wallyball is a sport that was invented by Joe Garcia in 1979. It is a variation of volleyball, however, it is played inside a racquetball court. There are currently no wallyball teams for individuals with disabilities but after contacting Mr. Garcia, he showed genuine interest in creating a program of this type. Due to the fact that there are no existing leagues, an effort has been made to begin locally. Mr. Garcia has taken an interest in bringing his sport into the University of Floridas GatorSport camp. This is a great opportunity for introducing wallyball because every year this camp brings in people of various levels ranging from world champion athletes and coaches with disabilities to newly disabled amateurs. Basic Rules: Wallyball is played inside a racquetball court with a net set up between two teams consisting of 2-4 players. The ball is served by a team and is played back and forth using all of the walls for play. Each team is allowed 3 hits maximum to volley it to their opponents side. A team is awarded a point only if they are in possession of the ball and the other team fails to keep the ball from falling on their side. This midpoint is typical defined by the back line of the racquetball serve area. The net is normally hung at a top vertical height of at the same as is for volleyball. Some courts also have the lower drilled holes/rings for a women's' height net. The ball is of similar size to a volleyball, but is made of a latex material very like a racquetball. STARTING THE GAME: A coin toss shall determine initial possession. The team that wins the coin toss shall have the choice of taking the ball or choosing a side for the first game. A second coin toss will determine possession if a third game is necessary. Each team must have at least 4 players for the game to begin. A ten minute grace period will be allowed before a game is called as a forfeit. LENGTH OF MATCHES: IM Volleyball matches are best-of-three games. The first team to win two games shall win the match. Each game shall be played to 15 points, including the third and final game.. Teams must win by at least two points, with a cap at 18. If neither team is able to win the game by two or more points, the first team to score 18 points shall win the game, even if they only have a one-point lead. The third game shall be rally scoring (A point shall be awarded on every serve).
