4-0 out of 5 stars A workout for the Athletes
I'm a women's tracck coach at the area school for the blind. Our track season is at the hottest time of the year. (August-October) when my girls come back from summer break, they are out of shape. It is so hard to get them into shape without serious strains, shin splints, etc. when the heat index is 100plus. The workout in the book is wonderful because it's easy to teach the skills on land before getting into the pool. I don't have the time to teach an "aerobic workout'. i like knowing that I'm using the same basic skills that are used on the track and transferring to the pool. It makes the best out of every practice. ... Read more

Product Description
This manual, which comprises both a theoretical and a practical section, addresses itself to all who are interested in the many and various uses of step apparatus during functional fitness and health training. The theoretical section gives an overview of aims, types of training and programme structure as well as methods of teaching and arranging. In the practical sections, basic steps, combinations of steps, arm movements and arm formations are described, as well as standard techniques, and set out in the usual terms. The section on technique is rounded off with a description of functional strengthening and mobility exercises with and at the step apparatus. The step aerobics programmes thus elaborated aim, on the one hand, at training general dynamic endurance and co-ordination; on the other hand, programmes are introduced, which also train strength and mobility. The programmes are designed so that they can be transferred straight into a practical teaching programme. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout... Great beats
Andy Ziker is a great drummer and one of the best music instructors around.I use this book at least twice a week and it keeps me in shape both physically and musically. What a great book. Sometimes the best things come from the simplest ideas. As a certified personal trainer, I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and challenging
I have owned many dozens of drum books, several of them which I actually understood and enjoyed, so when I saw another drum book on the market I was a bit skeptical. Do we really need another one? Upon getting into the book and doing a little work, however, I discovered Drum Aerobics' magic: It's both practical and challenging. It's the perfect cure for ADD drummers!

Instead of trying to come up with yet another convoluted system or concept book, Ziker gets you right into meaty material, and in a way that assists self-discipline while giving the basic drum facility a really good work out. The book is tastefully diverse, offering something for everyone. What I particularly enjoyed was the lack of pandering to "styles," where the author/instructor feels compelled to gloss over every possible scenario without delving too deeply into anything. Instead, Aerobics has quite a bit of substance spread out over the calendar pages. What it lacks in an over-arching theme it more than makes up for it with sheer volume -- thoughtful, articulate volume.

Each exercise is presented without an ounce of pretense -- some will be much easier than others, and Ziker recognizes this by mixing difficulty levels throughout. If one exercise is too easy, you can easily move on to the next one that is just as likely to require more than a day's effort to master. If you just want to pick and choose, the book is easy to navigate and the notation is clearly printed to flip through the book for the more advanced drummers.

Before you purchase this book, beware that it assumes you can read drum notation. You don't have to be a sight reader, but you do need to have some grounding in notation to be able to get through the exercises in a reasonable manner. It's probably best geared for an intermediate drummer looking for something to lay a solid ground to jump to that next level. Beginners may find a few of the exercises too much to chew in a short amount of time. Even the advanced drummers will find something to trip over, but it's also fun to revisit intermediate concepts that have been presented with Ziker's subtle twists. Adult re-entry players will find this book especially helpful, with some familiar material and some that probably isn't.

The accompanying music is ideal for this kind of book and in a way I wish other drum books would imitate. There are no intimidating charts to read, no A+ licks you have to re-create, just a grip-and-rip appeal that will prove useful to a player wanting to gain confidence playing to music and applying their newly-gained knowledge.

If you've flipped through New Breed and the Chaffee books and drawn a blank, pick up this one instead. Those classic system books are great and have their place, but this book will help bridge a gap and better prepare you for the advanced concepts. If you follow the calendar, it will also help you develop a practice system that will be vital to getting through the systems.

Drum Aerobics is a must have for every drum teacher who struggles to find strong intermediate material. Your students will have fun and Ziker's strong writing will make your life that much easier. Teachers will find the stretching exercises especially helpful because they encourage learning how to breath while the body is focused on limb movement, something I know I've found very difficult to teach younger students who want to hold their breath through every challenging bar of music!

I gave this book my highest rating because it was so refreshing to pick up a drum book and actually be playing something from it the same day -- and having fun. I actually see many years of application and something I will refer back to again and again. Any drummer who makes it through this book in earnest should be able to walk away with great confidence they have been prepared for most any typical gig situation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
My 13 year old daughter is currently working through the Drum Aerobics book. She loves it.The workouts are both challenging and fun enough to keep her motivated and the accompanying DVD allows her to play along with pre-recorded music tracks, turning solitary practice sessions into more of a full jam. My daughter's first drum book was another excellent work published by Mr. Ziker, entitled Drumscapes: The Essential Guide to Playing Drumset (Learn the Beat). I would highly recommend that book as well for the beginning drummer.

5-0 out of 5 stars An inspirational book
Drum Aerobics by Andy Ziker is a great book for beginners and advanced drummers alike. Andy, an experienced teacher, interchanges basic exercises with complex and challenging coordination drills. Leaving room for creativity, Andy inspires users to reach for the next level, regardless of how long they have been playing. The easy to follow layout, doubles as a guide for novice players. The exercises are planned out and organized into different genres of rhythms rather than just a bunch of drills that have been thrown together (an experience that I have had more than once with these types of books). This layout also makes a great layout for teachers looking to motivate their students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and simple drum lessons
This is a great drum lesson book. Each lesson is short and creative and has a CD track to match.CD2 actually has music and rythms minus the drums in order for you to play along. You can follow the grooves in the lesson as well as make up your own. These tracks are labelled with each exercise so it is easy to follow and find throughout the book.I would highly recommend this to any beginner and/or intermediate drummer. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment, then pleasantly surprised
I just received my copy of Madness' "Keep Moving" CD, which has been a favorite of mine since the days of vinyl.I was disappointed to note that the CD only contained 12 tracks instead of 14, and that two of my favorite songs on the CD had been omitted ("The Sun and The Rain" and "The Wings of a Dove").
While listening to the disk on my computer I discovered that the CD included 4 video tracks, including the two omitted from the CD.It's still great music, and it's fun to see the videos.

5-0 out of 5 stars impeccable
The minute I heard this album for the first time in 1984 I knew it was my favorite album and would be so for quite some time.21 years later nothing's come close.Over the years I've had the LP, cassette for the car, 12" singles, German CD and finally the US CD (the original Geffen one, signed by all 7 bandmembers at a radio station event in Philadelphia in 1999).It does not get better than this.Buy this CD and then stop buying CDs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware the 12-track abridged version!
Be careful! The 2000 reissue ofMadness's classic CD "Keep Moving" omitted two tracks from the original ("Wings of a Dove "and "Sun and the Rain") and shuffled the play order of the others.

Make certain you're getting the 14-track version of this CD or risk missing two classic Madness songs. The 14-track CD is still available, so buy carefully!

5-0 out of 5 stars Madness hits perfection
It is amazing to see such an upbeat band shed their skins and reveal a more depressing side to their music."Keep Moving" is just seeping with the working class feel that the band had always been toying with, but this effort is far more direct and concise than previous attempts.Madness has created their most human album;, even in its faults it shows that the band had traveled miles from their more ska-oriented beginnings.

With "Keep Moving" Madness hits a new level in complexity of both music and lyrics. From the false optimistic tone of "Victoria Gardens" to the sullen tale of abandonment in "Samantha," Madness veers down roads that one would never expect them to travel. The album might not be as appealing initially, but its methodical slogging results in a fantastic, albeit dreary, collection of songs that form a truly cohesive effort.

Each listening will bring increased depth to this album as the playfully metaphorical lyrics and musical intertwining become more evident.Depending on the listeners' state of mind, different songs will surface as the focal point of the album and, in this fashion, the total meaning of "Keep Moving" will be forever shifting.

Finally, it must also be said that "Michael Caine" shows Madness at their most intriguing. This song is filled with constant lyrical sly winks and knowing glances that coincide perfectly with the more subtle tone of the song. All together, this song is the apex of an album that is all to easily disregarded as a half-hearted attempt by a band past their prime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tragically Overlooked
This should have been the release that propelled Madness into superstardom in the U.S.A. but it was not to be. What a bargain this is for the price. The traditional Madness ska sound is still prevelant but there is a classic R & B influence as well. Great Fun. ... Read more

I ordered this book to prepare for my primary aerobics instructor certification through AFAA. I found the text to be thorough and clearly written, unlike some other instructor references I had examined. It also features articles bycontributors about different types of fitness classes. Overall, a goodprimer and reference geared toward the fitness instructor and those with adesire for deeper knowledge. ... Read more
