Forget NASCAR - Bring on the Open Wheelers !
For those outside the loop of racing, NASCAR garners a great deal of attention.Lost in all the attention paid to that series is a great style of racing collectively known as "open wheel" or "Champ Car."The series has evolved over the years but one thing has always remained.The races are fast, exciting and very competitive.How exciting?Put 800+ horsepower in a 1,600lb car that stands at knee level and enjoy the fun!If you are a fan - new or old - this series from Autocourse is a must-have.Autocourse started doing yearbooks 40+ years ago for the Formula One Grand Prix series and they have grown to include Champ Cars.They offer a tremendous amount of detail about the teams, drivers, cars, technical advances, etc.They also showcase the support series and the up-and-coming drivers in them.Each race is covered in detail with all qualifying times and finishing spots as well as highlights of the event itself.Photography is 100% incredible.That's another point.I enjoy doing my own photography and sometimes it's easy to lose track of things, especially if you don't get the film developed for a while.This book offers tremendous resource materials for someone maintaining photo albums of the events themselves.Basically, if you have a question about this style of racing, you'll find it in this book. ... A in-depth look into the short lived Trans-AM 2.5 series
This is the only book available that gives a detailed look as the brief Trans-AM 2.5 Challenge series.This short lived race series introduced sedan racing to America and produced many memorable battles between Alfa,Datsun and BMW.This book was invaluable in researching the Trans-AMhistory for the popular BSedan.com web site.Highly recommended!

The best inside look into the workings of a racing team.
This book is incredibly hard to find...and with good reason.It chronicles the early career of John Morton, a sports car racing driver, and the way the money end of the sport works (in the early '70's of course) and how teams are structured and the commitment required to "be good" at racing. I'm on the inside of racing.I crew on a sports car and have worked as a press photographer for over ten years in all types of professional motorsports.I've seen what it's really like. First-rate literary journalism
This forgotten book deserves attention.Critics have always loved it, but the unfortunate title ("Fast Company: How Six Master Gamblers Defy the Odds--And Always Win") confused the reading public.It never sold well.It is NOT a collection of get-rich-quick drivel.It's a group of incredibly poignant, expertly delivered portraits of some of the most colorful professional hustlers of the 20th Century.

At once informative, funny, and deeply moving, Fast Company is one of two favorite books on my extensive shelf of gambling titles.If you're at all curious about the subject, you must buy it.

On my LIST!
This book helped me incredibly understand the odds and help beat the casino at their games. I recommend it.

Traveling through U.S. gambling subcultures
Not really a travel book, like the rest of the Vintage Departures line, but an examination of another culture just the same. Bradshaw profiles six men with something in common--they are all hustlers, that is, gamblers who make a living by their wits. The range here is great, including the tennis player Bobby Riggs and backgammon great Tim Holland, as well as more "traditional" gamblers Minnesota Fats (pool), Pug Pearson and Johnny Moss (poker), and Titantic Thompson (proposition). But these were just what these men were best at--they all exceeded at almost every game they undertook, golf being an extremely common one for each. Bradshaw was a gifted writer. Great Collection of Racing Links
I've been online for years and have followed racing for decades but not until I received this book did I every have any indication how many great racing sites there are on the Net. I really enjoy this book. It's perfect for anybody who loves any kind or racing.

Not for the web-savy racing fan!
If you already have a good collection of racing "favorites" in your browser, then this book may not be for you.Although I found a "few" sites I didn't know, most of the sites were either main sites racing enthusiasts already knew or were people's personal sites. I did like the Teenie Bikini site (of course!) but as a webmaster and web enthusiast, I found the book a little disappointing.

The Off-Line Search Engine
They say a person spends one-third of their life sleeping. Since becoming a motorsports site webmaster, I have found that number to be quite high! Thanks to this Incredible book, however, I am able to spend less time messing with unforgiving search engines ... and closing back in on that one-third number! Thanks for including our site and thank you for creating this handy roadmap to the information superspeedway.

As good as possible
Books of this nature are always limited by timeliness (sites come and go-- and change -- so quickly). The fifth star is only withheld because ofthat unavoidable limitation. This is as good and complete a guite to autoracing on the Web as I can imagine. I'm an auto racing nut who's beenonline for almost 20 years, and I found stuff I had never seen in thisbook. Kudos to the author.

Comprehensive reference
This is the book to have if you want to look up quickly who won what, where and when. There are, however, some downsides: Firstly, it contains quite a number of embarrassing mistakes going way beyond simple typos which maybe isn't that surprising considering all the info; but it took me only a couple of hours to stop counting the most obvious mistakes which devalues it quite a bit! Secondly, and that's really annoying, it doesn't have any sort of index or even a table of contents that refers to page numbers! And thirdly, it's a little bit too expensive.
