Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt:The Long Beach State 49ers football team represented California State University, Long Beach from the 1955 through 1991 seasons. The 49ers originally competed as an Independent before joining the California Collegiate Athletic Association in 1958. By the 1969 season, the 49ers would join the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (now the Big West) where they remained through the 1990 season. The 49ers would compete in their final year as a I-A Independent prior to the program being disbanded following the 1991 season. Long Beach played its home games at multiple stadiums throughout their history with the most recent being Veterans Memorial Stadium, in Long Beach, California. During their 37 years of competition, the 49ers complied an all-time record of 199 wins, 183 losses and 4 ties. The Long Beach State football team traces its roots to 1955 when looking to capitalize on the boosters for both USC and UCLA who resided in Long Beach, the 49ers program was established. The program would see modest success, culminating with conference titles following both the 1970 and 1971 seasons, including the 49ers lone bowl, the 1970 Pasadena Bowl. Between the 1977 and 1982 seasons, Long Beach played the majority of their home games at Anaheim Stadium prior to moving back to Veterans Memorial Stadium for the 1983 season. The 49ers would again win the Big West championship following the 1980 season. Following the only undefeated home schedule in the history of the program under George Allen for the 1990 season, Allen would pass on December 31, 1990, leaving the future of the program in doubt. On December 10, 1992, University...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=20869675 ... Read more

Excerpt: Walter Pyramid, formerly known as Long Beach Pyramid, is a 5,000-seat, indoor multi-purpose stadium on the campus of California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, California. Long Beach Pyramid was officially opened on 30 November 1994, when it hosted a Long Beach State 49ers men's basketball game against University of Detroit Mercy, which aired live on ESPN. A standing-room only crowd of 5,021 saw Long Beach come away victorious with a final score of 71-64. External view of Walter PyramidThe Long Beach Pyramid was designed by Don Gibbs and built by the Nielson Construction Company of San Diego. The building of Long Beach Pyramid cost approximately $22 million dollars. Each side of the perimeter of Walter Pyramid measures 345 feet (105 m), making it a mathematically true pyramid. It is one of only three true pyramid-style buildings in the United States, the others being Luxor Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada and Pyramid Arena in Memphis, Tennessee. Walter Pyramid rises 18 stories above the Long Beach skyline and its external is uniformly clad in sheets of dark-blue corrugated aluminum. On 05 March 2005, Long Beach State officially renamed Long Beach Pyramid to Walter Pyramid in honor of Dr. Mike and Arline Walter. The Walters were given this recognition for a $2.1 million dollar donation given to the university. In addition to being the vice-president of Levi Strauss & Co., Dr. Mike Walter was also a dean for Long Beach State's College of Business Administration from 1993 to 2000. Walter Pyramid is currently home to the Long Beach State 49ers men's basketball and Long Beach State 49ers women's basketball programs, as well as the Long Beach State 49ers men's volleyball and L...http://booksllc.net/?id=2347730 ... Excerpt: Alan Richard "Al" Michaels (born November 12, 1944) is an American television sportscaster. Now employed by NBC Sports after nearly three decades (19772006) with ABC Sports, Michaels is one of the most prominent members of his profession. He is perhaps best known for his many years of calling play-by-play of National Football League games, including nearly two decades with Monday Night Football. He is also known for famous calls in other sports, including the Miracle on Ice at the 1980 Winter Olympics and the earthquake-interrupted Game 3 of the 1989 World Series. Michaels was born in Brooklyn, New York to Jay Michaels and Lila (Ross). He grew up as a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. Coincidentally, at the time the Dodgers left Brooklyn, Michaels' family also moved to Los Angeles, California in 1958. Michaels attended Alexander Hamilton High School in L.A., with Joel Siegel, Michele Lee and Michelle Phillips, and was a football and baseball player. He graduated in 1962 and later attended Arizona State University, where he majored in radio and television and minored in journalism. He worked as a sports writer for ASU's independent student newspaper, The State Press. He was also a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Michaels' first job in television was with Chuck Barris Productions, choosing women to appear on The Dating Game. His first sportscasting job came in 1964 when he was hired to do public relations for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was later hired by the team to serve eight games as a color commentator. He was fired after only four. Michaels resumed his professional broadcasting career in 1968, calling the games of the Hawaii Islanders baseball team in the Pacific Coast League. He also called play-by-play for the University of Hawaii's football and bask... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=402659 ... Read more
