Excellent book, a must read for serious deer hunters
This book, without a doubt, is the finest book on deer hunting that I have ever read.As an avid reader, I have read a pile of books on deer hunting, most of which were the same information, recycled over and over again.The techniques and strategies in these books are just not applicable to hunting in my heavily pressured home state of South Carolina.
This book is full of fresh ideas that have challenged the way I have historically approached bowhunting.I would recommend this book to anyone, bowhunters and gunhunters alike.It is the most HONEST and PRACTICAL book on hunting mature deer that you will ever read.It will help you to rethink the way you hunt and give you more opportunities at big bucks.I cannot say enough good things about this book.If you live in a state or area where there is alot of stiff hunting pressure, you have got to read this book.

This book walks through the whole year, what you need to be getting done now, what you need to be getting ready to do. Its all here, how, when, and where you should be hunting through out the season. It rehashes some of his other book " bowhunting pressured Whitetails" both are books I would recomend to any bowhunter.

Precision Bow Hunting Review
Excellent book.Easy to read, well organized, and insightful.No gimmicks or add-ons.Follow the straight forward practices to improve your odds.I used the knowledge for both bow and firearm hunting.I saw many more deer than in prior years.I purchased a copy for my son and a friend.

You can't miss this...
Chris and John have done it again.This is an incredible follow up to "bowhunting pressured whitetails".Their knowledge of the lore of the wood and the unique and creative take they have with hunting consistently shows their superior knowledge they are all too happy to share with those of you who are wise to purchase this book.

A Book Every Serious Bowhunter Should Have
This book and the Eberhart's other book "Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails" are the two best whitetail deer bowhunting books I have read - and I have read a lot of them.Most deer hunting books discuss tactics for hunting unpressured deer (i.e. large, privately managed farms or ranches with limited access or high-fence operations) that most hunters will simply never have the chance to hunt.This book is different from other hunting books in that the Eberhart's explain their year-round system for consistently taking mature whitetail bucks from pressured areas in their home state of Michigan.I must say again that the Eberthart's bowhunting books are the best I have read.In fact, I re-read parts of their books before each hunting season. ... Sensible info for real hunters
This book is a great read for those who cannot hunt on guide hunts on game farms, etc. (that's most of us!) The book gives real tips on how to hunt whitetails that you can put to use right away. I liked the book so much I mbought the 3 DVD set that will soemwhat redundant to the text, contained a bunch more great info. These guys know what they are doing and they don't have a ranch or staff of guides, scouts, etc doing the work for them. The DVD series is not however a bunch of hunts captured on video. It is instructional stuff... and good!

Very Disappointing
As the title indicates, I found this disappointing.I knew there wasn't going to be much in this book when the entire first chapter used charts and graphs to demonstrate that pressured bucks are harder to find!!!

Also, he spent a good number of pages telling us how to approach landowners for permission to hunt!That is NOT what you buy a book like this for.

He also presents a regimen for success that is so drastic I don't think many will follow thru.For example -- he prepares 80 different trees for stands.

The book wasn't a total loss, as he does give a prioritized list of the 4 things to look for in the woods that are best places to find deer.

Solid info
I recently read the book and I did learn some new things. However, the book really pushes a scentlok suit and I would adivse saving your money. These suits are costly and not necessary. Just go out and buy scent free detergent (basspro,cableas,wal-mart etc.) and the scent proof spray and you are good. We are talking a price difference of hundreds.

I wish the author had really gone into game cameras. If you really want to know what size of deer you are hunting and when and where they are at a camera is the best tool out there. Also, he didn't mention baiting much, but if it is legal in your state do this along with cameras and you stand a great chance of taking a good sized deer.

In conclusion, this is a good book and if you are new to hunting I would strongly recommend it.

Good Stuff
John Eberhart manages to take nice bucks year after year from one of the heaviest hunted and poorest manage states without having to pay anyone to hunt their land. this book is worth every minute of your time ,but if you only want to read one of John's books then make it "Precision Bowhunting" much the same info just laid out a bit nicer.

Just as the name implies if you are bowhunting whitetails in pressured areas this book is one of the best. Theres something here for everyone but if you are a begining bowhunter this book is a must own. The author also has 3 DVDs on hunting pressured whitetails, they are the best instructional DVD's I have seen. I wish I would have had this book availabale when I started bowhunting. ... Read more

Great Overview book of archery
This book is great for highlighting many aspects of archery and providing information that is useful for a beginner and experienced archer.It is a nice text that compiles information that would be useful to have as a reference.There are tuning methods, suggestions for shooting form, tips on how to fix your bow and add accessories.A very solid book with plenty of pictures for any archery fan.

GREAT FOR THE BEGINNING BOWHUNTER
I very much enjoyed this book.It was a great refresher since I haven't shot a bow in quite a few years.It also had lots of great information I didn't know, such as paper tuning, in depth information on arrows and arrow selection. I highly recommend this book.

Amazing in Detail and Information
EVERYTHING you always wanted to know about Bow Hunting but were too intimidated to ask.Being a woman just picking up the sport of bow hunting at age 37 I would walk into sporting goods and archery stores and be overwhelmed by the amount of information I needed to know before I ever purchased a bow.This book helped me know what equipment I needed and what equipment was just smoke and mirrors.It also prepared me for "target panic" and explained in detail about every other facet that I could have ever thought of and even some I didn't consider.Great for anyone just picking up the sport.

I hope to become a bowhunnter
i cant say i have any bow hunting skill whatsoever but this book has taught my what to look for in equipment and to practice my posture. i recomend this for people looking for a vague idea on equipment to buy, but not for the specifics.

Outstanding book for CMPD, Trad, beginner & experienced
I bought this book based on a great review from the bowsite.com.The high ratings are very well deserved and it is well worth the price.

I've been bowhunting for the last 6 years, traditonal for the last 4.I've read dozens of books on the bowhunting and several on target archery.This book is with the best 4 or 5.It covers several topics I've never seen mentioned in other books.The more common topics are like arrow spine are covered in a fresh and far superior way.Most of the chapters have enough overlap that they are worth reading even it "you don't shoot that kind of bow".

No Miracle Cure
I always hope, when I sit down to read one of these books, that there will be some piece of information in there that will make me say, "ahha! -- so that's it!".Well I've never found one before and this book doesn't have one either.

For example, one of the hardest things about deepwoods hunting is determining food sources.I think his answer was that you have to scout to see what the deer are eating.But, in the deepwoods, what they're eating is probably everywhere -- so what good does that do you?Besides, how, other than by actually catching them in the act, do you determine what they're eating?Since deepwoods deer are so scarce, catching them in the act of eating is going to be very tough.

His big secret is LOTS of scouting and he says it will probably take you 5 years of this type hunting (and all that scouting) before you finally figure things out.

I DO like the way Greg comes across in his books and I found his descriptions of his father's deercamps, his own, early-adult deercamps, and the ones he shares with his son, now,to be touching and definitely one of the better parts of the book.

Good book
If you are a beginner or just read everthing like me, then this is a good book don't expect much.

Greg Knows Whitetails!
Greg Miller is one of the foremost experts on the habits of Whitetail deer and the techniques used to hunt them.So much that is written now on the subject can be classified as just warmed over rewrites of previously covered subjects, but Greg Miller's approach is noteworthy because it covers the five "W's" of research - "What, Where, When, Why, and hoW!"He promises no shortcuts but does promise results if the hunter applies himself.Great read and great information.I recommend this book as well as others Greg Miller has written on the subject of hunting for Whitetail deer to anyone aspiring go after this great game animal.

Low Expectations
I have read all of Greg Miller's earlier works and enjoyed them. When I saw that he put out "Greatest Whitetail Adventures" I figured I would not read another. I mean, this guy is all over the hunting shows, on the sports show circuit, magazines, etc. He couldjust put out a series of compilations based on his previous books and milk the cash cow that is the modern deer hunting industry.

After picking up this book I have to admit: I was absolutely wrong. This is the most honest book he has ever done. This is not the "glass the crop fields and find the hardwood funnel" tactics of 90% of the deer hunting books out there. It reminds me of the John Eberhardt bowhunting books in that it really shows you what it takes to be a consistent hunter in these environs. The work, preparation, and especially mental attitude. Greg is not preaching: he readily explains his own feelings from his earliest attempts at bowhunting.

I figured Greg Miller succumed to what is the modern deer huntingindustry machine. Instead I get the sense that Greg is using his position within the industry to ensure a future of respect for the quarry being hunted. ... Read more

Great Bow Hunting Book!!!
This collection of insights amounts to a treasure chest of hunting wisdom that can improve any hunter that is committed to learning new skills (Whether you're a novice or seasoned hunter).

Great techniques and timely insights make for a very enlightening read.

Put some logs on the fire, kick back and enjoy this book. Then go out and apply what you've learned.

Not focused enough on the West
This book has some good information and is very thorough. However, the book is geared very heavily toward white tails and Eastern terrain.Hunters looking for tips for mulies should look elsewhere.

Finally a bow hunting book with some scientific validity.
A lot of hunting books are antidotal accounts of the authors hunts and never really give you any solid information. This is NOT one of those. It is a collection of articles written by various big game hunters/authors/experts. Yes, there are some hunting stories, but the vast majority is well researched information put into a form that you can use. It is actually a good read. I find myself not wanting to rush through this so I get full enjoyment out of it. Since this is a collection of articles, it is easy to read one a night before I drift off to sleep and dream and big bucky.
Several articles explain how the rut works in great detail. Some of the information is controversial-such as timing the peak breeding by using the moon-but the research will make a believer out of you. For any hunter looking for even the slightest edge in hunting big game, there will be something in this book for you.

There is an excellent section on the rut and answers several questions like when is the rut, how does it start, how do deer respond during different parts of the rut and rut hunting strategies.
The first section has excellent chapters on habits including diet, bedding, scraps, and rub lines.
The book also has hunting strategies of several "expert" hunters with some excellent advice on stand placement.
This book has somuch more and I feel there is something for every bowhunter, novice to expert. This one will stay in my library and be passed on to several friends. ... Read more

Great Backcountry Info
This book has been very informative when it comes to what type of gear you need in the backcountry and how to select it, how you should prepare for the grueling hunt and what it takes mentally once you're out there. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in hunting the backcountry. Cameron Hanes is THE backcountry hunting authority and has become the most successful backcountry bowhunter. Amazing Book!
By far the best book on bowhunting I've read. Could not put it down. I've literally stayed up into the wee hours of the morning pouring over it's pages. Great stories, terrific advice. Everything one could want in a bowhunting book. Unlike the rest. You will be glad you bought it. I liked it so much, I am buying a copy for my hunting partner. The only thingI'd love more than this book is the opportunity to go on a backcountry hunt with it's author, Cameron Hanes.

DISAPPOINTED
This book, while inspiring, is very poorly written.The author uses language that is conversational and so replete with slang that it barely passes for English.At times I found it very difficult to understand what he was writing about.The book was not very informative and there was way too many words about the author's marathon running success.Besides being poorly written and uninformative, the writer comes off as being cocky.He frequently quotes himself as captions under photographs of himself; clearly a legend in his own mind.All and all, this book was very disappointing. ... The hunt conditions are described clearly and succinctly. A real bowhunters read that will give every reader more insight. The new and tweaked older tactics every hunter needs in todays hunt are described with easy to understand means and methods.

Great Book from a Hunter who has done it!
This book was a very good one. Written by a man who has done his own homework, instead of someone else doing it for him.( LIKE OUTFITTERS AND GUIDES) It's good to see men who are real deerhunters doing it the old fashioned way. Scouting area's themselves, making their own strategies in getting trophy deer. You can tell he knows what he is talking about from experience. Many of the books say the same thing over and over again. When this man comes highly regarded by Gene Wenzel,that is saying something to me! If you want to go to the next level in deerhunting, This book is for you. I would give it six stars if I could. Get It!

Makes the complex quite simple
I get so tired of reading deer hunting books that simply repeat the same old deer hunting advice: "set up between bedding areas and feeding areas," for instance.In the places where I've lived, it's often hard to tell feeding areas - food is everwhere, and deer can bed anywhere.So needless to say, much of what passes for deer hunting advice - even from so-called experts - is confusing and doesn't really end up working where most of us hunt.Against this backdrop, Bobby Worthington is a breath of spring.The stuff he suggests is stuff you won't read much of other places, but will actually work where you live.Bobby's a country boy who grew up studying deer (not deer hunting books), and rather than pay a guide to hunt his deer for him so he can shoot it (what many other writers do), he hunts them himself.His advice is common sense, practical, and easy to understand.If you read this book and do what he says, you WILL become a better deer hunter. ... Great Book
Very informative and the plain truth. Bartylla is one of the best writers on whitetail bowhunting I have read. His books and Eberharts books are top notch. They cover hunting on public lands, which most of the other writers leave out. Whitetail bucks on public lands are more skittish and wise from the hunting pressure they have endured. Therefore hunting them is the greatest challenge. Steve Bartylla covers the things that have worked for him to take this elusive monarch. Great book! ... Read more

The unfortunate Mr. Suggs
I myself am not a hunter.I really just do not understand it.However, my husband enjoys it immensly.While I do not understand the hunting mentality I do understand people such as Mr. Suggs.While, Mr. Suggs is exceedingly gifted in the art of penning sarcasm, he unfortunately lacking in his choice of reading materials.I find it odd that a person who does not enjoy a sport, nor the person who is participating in the sport, would read a book involving both. I give kudos to Mr. Suggs writing ability, shame on him for speaking out of turn.

Great Read...
Unlike Philbert Suggs review, which is obviously, a sarcastic, soap-box stance, of a denial ridden, brain damaged animal rights/anti-hunting advocate who has not read the book in the first place.He is obviously shrouded by self-substantiated lies including his false profile in which he says he is a hunter and uses Elvis as his picture (a drug-ridden, stammering bafoon such as himself, evidently).Such people could benefit from reading such books in which denials of natural processes of life and death are not tolerated and truth is spoken.People are hunters by nature, Ted has always promoted that as he does in this book.Ted has never tolerated false idealistic views such as those perceived by Mr. Suggs who thinks his food has never had an effect on an animal or the environment or has denied that his actions through his course of life has never lead to the death of an animal or destruction of their environment.People who share views as those of Mr. Suggs pave a dangerous path to destruction of humanity through denial and lies.Rock-on Ted, and keep on spreading the truth of humanity and our impact of the environment, helping to preserve habitat and the abundace of wildlife for generations to come, and teaching kids to not just "Say No" to drugs, but, to kick the dealer in the balls, drag them in to the street, smash them into the curb and leave them to rot in the gutter.You have helped many youth to preserve their life and give them a good path to follow to become an asset to their community and the wild in general. ... Unique Strategies
I found this book to have a lot of different types of hunting strategies and tips. There are many unique tactics that these guys have found that work. I think becuase most of these hunters do this for a living, they have the time to try and see what tactics works best. Each contributor has his own way of bow hunting and gives a different point of view than the other. Their stories/techniques are practical and, as hunters, we are always looking for that next tactic to bring in a trophy! I enjoyed it.

Good on Fundamentals, Very Dated on Technology
This book was written in the late 1980's.Archery and deer hunting have progressed a great deal in the last 20 years.

Bows have changed, the arrows have changed, scent blocking clothing has been introduced and ground blinds have also given hunters additional choices.

On the positive side the author does know how to hunt and shoot and does a good job explaining how to do the same to the reader.An updated edition would be a very good idea.

Great overall for the subject
I was impressed by the depth and breadth of the authors knowledge and presentation. It is quite readable and I will use it as a reference for years to come.Someof the advise was related to locale though.I took to heart his "stump shooting" concept as a fine idea and now that I am scouting and setting up my fall hunts I took my bow and some fields points.A hint from and eastern bow hunter... You'll have a hard time getting those arrows out of a hardwood stump! GREAT BOOK!

Valuable Reference
Since I got my first compound bow this winter Iresearched at the library for books for beginners. I found this book and have not been willing to return it to the library.It is such a valuable reference I decided Ishould buy a copy. It covers information on proper stance and release,tuning your bow, what equipment and accessories are best for a certainperson or situation, as well as hunting techniques.Dwight Schuh knows hisstuff.
