5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book.
I would have to agree with the previous reviewers.I am not an avid reader, but I was seeking information on hunting North American elk and this book sure had a lot of what I would consider "Important information".I would recommend this book to anybody who might be considering their first elk hunt.I appreciate Mr. Meitin for taking the time to write down his thoughts and experiences.

5-0 out of 5 stars superior ideas
By far the best book on the subject of bow hunting elk. I'm glad I found something in print that states, and provides evidence, that elk in different places are just that, different. Gearing up and getting into shape address issues most of us would like to avoid in conversation, but need to be addressed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best elk hunting book in over 20 years -- maybe the best ever!
Shortly after you start reading this book, you will learn that Pat Meitin has paid his dues to the sport. He has earned every bit of his knowledge about elk hunting.Being an oldtime elk hunter myself, I remember buying Dwight Schuh's book titled "Bugling for Elk" back in the early 1980's.At the time, I considered this book the Bible of archery elk hunting.Boy have things changed since then.Meitin does an excellent job of illustrating the transformation of elk behavior, hunting tactics, the sport in general, and even how we as hunters have changed. This well crafted book reaches into every aspect of bowhunting for elk. It has enough how-to information to advance a beginning bowhunter to a seasoned bowhunter -- without having to learn everything the hard way. But, the best thing about this book is not what I wrote above. The best thing about it is how very well it is written.I couldn't just read it like some kind of instructional manual.Rather, I found it more like reading a number-one best-selling novel. The brilliant color photography is like a cherry on top of the cake.If I am right that Dwight's book was the Bible, then this is the New Testament!...Of elk hunting that is. ... Product Description
Are you ready to get started on your journey to becoming a skilled bow hunter?Yes?Then let’s get started!

All too often a budding hunter will rush right out, buy the first bow they see at the sporting goods store, grab some arrows and head right out for a weekend of outdoor fun.

Sadly, the experience is usually less than positive and he arrives home tired and dejected with nothing to show for his effort. The bow ends up in the rafters in the garage and the dream of an enjoyable hobby disappears.

Another scenario that occurs frequently is going out with a buddy or acquaintance presenting himself as a self-proclaimed “expert.” You know the type.He knows it all and proceeds to let you know everything you are doing “wrong.”

Before you know it you have connected the experience with the jerk and you let the whole experience fade into oblivion never willing to try it again.

It doesn’t have to be like that. You can learn the basics of bow hunting on and take it to whatever destination you desire.

Product Description
We live in an age of hunting accomplishments, some say extreme accomplishments. But however you look at it, it must be admitted that hunting all North American big game fair chase, with a bow, has to be one of the most difficult things to do in the world of hunting. And might we add that all the game Gary shot was done fair chase in the wild. A few highlights include: the incredible story of hunting grizzly near Knight Inlet in British Columbia where the giant bears had made deep tracks in the dense wilderness from hundreds of years of use. Talk about hunting game at spitting distances . . . and this was after Gary had failed to get a bear in Alaska during three prior attempts. In another instance Bogner hunts for a Stone sheep no less than three times. He ultimately takes an incredible ram with his rifle and later goes back and gets a very fine ram with his bow. And to top that, he hunted no less than four times to get his Dall ram. His description of getting his bighorn in Canada in deep snow makes one shiver with both the thoughts of the extreme cold as well as the idea how difficult it is to get close enough to a wary animal like a bighorn to get a shot with a bow. Ultimately Gary gets his chance at all twenty-eight: the caribou of the tundra, the moose of the boreal forests, and the deer of the farmlands and mountains. Even a giant bison falls to his arrow, along with puma, mountain goat, and the others. Gary is not one to give up easily. This book is a narrative of a hunter who has made up his mind to hunt only with a bow and who will succeed no matter what the odds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Ted Freakin Nugent
I love bowhunting, and I love this book. This book has over 100 stories of Uncle Ted and the "mystical flight of the arrow" putting backstrap on the ground. A great easy read and a must for any bowhunter. THWACK!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent read
This is yet another great book from Uncle Ted, lots of cool hunting stories and all kinds of related info as well as some great recipies.

5-0 out of 5 stars The unfortunate Mr. Suggs
I myself am not a hunter.I really just do not understand it.However, my husband enjoys it immensly. While I do not understand the hunting mentality I do understand people such as Mr. Suggs. While, Mr. Suggs is exceedingly gifted in the art of penning sarcasm, he unfortunately lacking in his choice of reading materials.I find it odd that a person who does not enjoy a sport, nor the person who is participating in the sport, would read a book involving both. I give kudos to Mr. Suggs writing ability, shame on him for speaking out of turn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read...
Unlike Philbert Suggs review, which is obviously, a sarcastic, soap-box stance, of a denial ridden, brain damaged animal rights/anti-hunting advocate who has not read the book in the first place. He is obviously shrouded by self-substantiated lies including his false profile in which he says he is a hunter and uses Elvis as his picture (a drug-ridden, stammering bafoon such as himself, evidently).Such people could benefit from reading such books in which denials of natural processes of life and death are not tolerated and truth is spoken.People are hunters by nature, Ted has always promoted that as he does in this book.Ted has never tolerated false idealistic views such as those perceived by Mr. Suggs who thinks his food has never had an effect on an animal or the environment or has denied that his actions through his course of life has never lead to the death of an animal or destruction of their environment.People who share views as those of Mr. Suggs pave a dangerous path to destruction of humanity through denial and lies.Rock-on Ted, and keep on spreading the truth of humanity and our impact of the environment, helping to preserve habitat and the abundace of wildlife for generations to come, and teaching kids to not just "Say No" to drugs, but, to kick the dealer in the balls, drag them in to the street, smash them into the curb and leave them to rot in the gutter. You have helped many youth to preserve their life and give them a good path to follow to become an asset to their community and the wild in general. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A good approach
I don't bow hunt but I found this book as applicable to rifle hunting as it may be to bow hunters. It is mostly reprinted articles from a series that ran in North American Whitetail magazine. It is handy to have them collected in one volume. The first part involves details on setting up a bow for hunting and the second part is about the author's strategy. He simplifies his approach to hunting funnels in the rut. While this is not new, he makes a strong case that it is the best use of the limited time available to hunt mature bucks while they are are vulnerable. His claims on scent control I find less practical. It looks so time consuming that, even if it works, it still would not be worthwhile. I tried to follow his advice and did have some luck in funnels but it is a hard hunt mentally, especially here, with 5-7 deer sq mile. As he says, it may be days before you see a deer. I had one funnel I saw a great buck in, the first time there, and when I checked it after a week's worth oftracks in the snow there was just 5 sets. Ouch!

The author claims on his site that he is updating the book to three times the length. It will be interesting to see if he can add more insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars book review
The hunt conditions are described clearly and succinctly. A real bowhunters read that will give every reader more insight. The new and tweaked older tactics every hunter needs in todays hunt are described with easy to understand means and methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book from a Hunter who has done it!
This book was a very good one. Written by a man who has done his own homework, instead of someone else doing it for him.( LIKE OUTFITTERS AND GUIDES) It's good to see men who are real deerhunters doing it the old fashioned way. Scouting area's themselves, making their own strategies in getting trophy deer. You can tell he knows what he is talking about from experience. Many of the books say the same thing over and over again. When this man comes highly regarded by Gene Wenzel, that is saying something to me! If you want to go to the next level in deerhunting, This book is for you. I would give it six stars if I could. Get It!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes the complex quite simple
I get so tired of reading deer hunting books that simply repeat the same old deer hunting advice: "set up between bedding areas and feeding areas," for instance. In the places where I've lived, it's often hard to tell feeding areas - food is everwhere, and deer can bed anywhere. So needless to say, much of what passes for deer hunting advice - even from so-called experts - is confusing and doesn't really end up working where most of us hunt.Against this backdrop, Bobby Worthington is a breath of spring. The stuff he suggests is stuff you won't read much of other places, but will actually work where you live.Bobby's a country boy who grew up studying deer (not deer hunting books), and rather than pay a guide to hunt his deer for him so he can shoot it (what many other writers do), he hunts them himself. His advice is common sense, practical, and easy to understand. If you read this book and do what he says, you WILL become a better deer hunter. ...
