5-0 out of 5 stars Best story about a bowling ball ever!
My kids like this book, but really, it's for me. A bowling ball with a name... and a personality... and aspirations. I love that! Not only that... she achieves her goals!!!! Good grief, if a bowling ball can do it, then, darn it, so can I!!!!

It's even better if you live in Wisconsin where kids learn to bowl as soon as they learn to walk and adults only stop bowling when they're dead.

Product Description
This collection tackles the theme of isolation and the breakdown of mediating social institutions. It is, in part, a response to Robert Putnam's Bowling Alone as well as an attempt to create a broader idea of civil society. These original essays contribute to the examination of democratic theory and practice, exploring one of the most popular causes of this decline in public trust—social capital.

These critical essays are written by specialists and scholars in American politics and American political thought. They utilize diverse methodologies—empirical and philosophical—and multiple perspectives to examine critically the social capital discourse and how it is related to political participation, civic engagement, and American democracy. ... Product Description
Leaders of the American Revolution envisioned the United States as the next great world empire. George Washington and his allies, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, believed that the capital of that empire should be a commercial as well as political emporium. They spearheaded the effort to place it on the Potomac and make Virginia a preeminent commercial state. "The Creation of Washington, D.C." covers the political struggle between the North and the South over the location of the American capital city and explains the origin of Congress's exclusive jurisdiction over the city. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book provides a riveting account of America's first great compromise: the location of the capital.I could not put it down, marveling at how many times the capital was almost here or almost there, fascinated by theleaders involved in the debate. There is much to learn and understand wellbeyond how the capital came to be located in WDC: the embryonic and fragilebalance of new states and regional interests, the other issues pressing onthe country, such as assumption of state war debts, the economic interestsand prospects of various factions, visions of how America's economy wouldblossom, the kernals of the Civil War, and especially, a deep insight andunderstanding of our country's early leaders, above all, George Washington,James Madison, and several Lees of Virginia. This is a must read not onlyfor DC residents like me, but for anyone fascinated by our country's earlydays. This book made me want to be a fly on the wall at many of thepivotal proceedings and secret meetings that decided the location of ournow beautiful capital city. ... Product Description
In this evocative book, Michelangelo Antonioni, one of the world's greatest directors, gives us a rare glimpse inside the creative mind."My thoughts are always about film," he says, and here he has written thirty-three richly suggestive pieces elaborating ideas for films as yet unproduced.
Beautifully translated by William Arrowsmith, That Bowling Alley on the Tiber reveals a master of cinema in a new role--that of an accomplished and sensitive writer.
"Plangent, haunting and refreshingly tough-minded...[Antonioni] is asking the questions that every serious film maker will have to ask if the cinema is ever to prove as hospitable to ideas as it is to the great god Action."--The New York Times Book Review
"These writings, like his films, pair luminous landscapes with ethereal tales....These are clearly working notes, and they are as interesting for their analysis of the director's methods as for their literary content."--Library Journal
About the Author and Translator:

Michelangelo Antonioni has gained an international following with such films as L'Avventura, La notte, Blow-up and The Passenger.

William Arrowsmith is Robert W. Woodruff Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature at Emory University.

5-0 out of 5 stars a haunting tale of the ideas unrealized
This book is a collection of ideas, sketches, plots and "cuts" told by the modern master - Michelangelo Antonioni. Some of the novellas in the book (4 of them) made it into his latest movie"Beyond the Clouds"; most of the work is still to be realized on film. Reading this collection helped me to understand the Great Teatrology of the Antonioni's work - L'Aventurra, La Notte, Eclipse and Red Desert much better. Director is researching the same themes of loneliness, impossibility of love and connections in the modern world full of dehumanizing technology. Landscapes and architecture, subtle variations of mood, breeze and movement ... and sadness. ... Read more

Book is interesting and has few typos. A lot of nice anecdotes, personal information about the players, practice techniques etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Coach Yourselff!!!!!
The book title says it all - Skills, Drills, & Strategies. It takes you from the very beginning showing basics of stance and release to straightforward strategies in approaching spares in a logical manner to ensure you convert them sensibly.Think about it, you make all your spares and your average is likely to be at least 170 - not bad for the weekly bowler. This is part of the Teach, Coach, Play series and allows you to follow a predetermined pathway to bowling success. Some of the self analysis reviews are drawn out in text but if your at the alley you won't be using them anyway - not really necessary.Get this book and you will improve.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Basic
I didn't think this book was worth the read.It is very basic and anyone that puts time into the game would already know most of what is detailed in this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars The basics
This book is very very basic. I'm surprised at Jose the bowlers' review. He could only have been talking about conventional vs fingertip drilling as this book does not address the layout and drilling of a bowling ball at all. It is scorekeeping and the pin numbers and basic information about lanes and four steps. For a very raw beginner or teaching a class of beginners, it would work.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's the best book........
This is the best book i've ever seen on drilling up a bowling ball. When I bought this book I was good, now I feel that I am better than before. I recommended this book to all bowler who want to learn how to drills they owns ball. I Give to this book 5 star ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Guide to Disruptive Technology
Yoram's book provides an outstanding framework for thinking about disruptive technology.Easy to read and based on the author's own experience and observations, includes many examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of technology markets
Yoram's book lives up to and even surpasses its catchy title, which by itself will provoke rueful smiles from anyone in the tech world. The book hits upon and explains a nascent but important trend today--- namely the creation of new markets using a range of disruptive and collaborative techniques and the massive stakes involved.Anyone who wants to understand what technology ecosystems are and their impact will find this book essential reading.I particularly liked the sections on derivative disruption and implementations, standards development organizations, and technology trending.

Another great feature of this book is it talks to you not at you. It's written clearly and it's easy to understand--Yoram's style is engaging and draws you in.

I would have no hesitation in recommending it highly to corporate technologists and market planners, management consultants, and people involved in analyzing and mapping technology portfolios and plans.I also think MBA students (and curriculums) will find it of great value.

You won't be disappointed with this book

5-0 out of 5 stars ....apractical approach to predicting innovation and market disruption
Solomon delivers on the book's premise...big time! In a very readable style, he offers creative concepts and well-researched examples promoting how deliberate versus random innovation can be applied to new products; with particular focus on predicting how existing technologies can disrupt and create value not only in their primary markets, but secondary markets, as well. Worthy of several reads.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to be read by the entrepreneur and the investor
This book presents a useful analysis of the evolution of electronic technology from its recent past to the present and future trends.

The electronics- technology entrepreneur and the investor will both benefit from reading this book. "Bowling with a Crystall Ball" will help them analyze the past and make the best predictions and decisions affecting their next venture.

It is a very sobering read when one realizes the vertiginous speed at which changes have occured in the electronics industry over the last 30 years and realize that the "ball" keeps accelerating.

I highly recommend this book

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
I would definitely recommend Bowling with a Crystal Ball to ones who are either involved in a technology venture or about to be engaged in such.

The author is sharing his own real life personal experience along with theoretical examples which makes this book easy to associate with on a practical manor.

Product Description
We have become a nation divided against ourselves with public discourse controlled by special interests blind to the needs of the larger community. There seem to be few places at present where true dialogue about issues affecting us as a nation is possible. Civility in our public square is a necessity if we wish to preserve this democratic nation, for the harsh truth is that the opposite of civility is not simply incivility, but the disintegration of civilized society. If you are one of the weary majority, this book with its practical lessons on reincorporating civility in our interactions in the public square is for you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great coverage of bowling basics
a really good book for the beginning bowler. Covers the basic 4 and 5 step approaches, how to line up your shot and so forth. I owned this book years ago and lost it, so I bought this new copy. Its useful to review from time to time, particularly if you game is going poorly and you can't figure out why. Its a "back-to-basics" coverage of the topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Knowledge is the Key
Most bowlers know that this book is a "must-have." Fred Borden is a world-renowned bowling coach and this book provides the fundamentals and concepts important for the serious beginning and advanced bowler todevelop his/her game.I am a 200+ average bowler and I often pull thisbook off the shelf for reference (especially when I'm in a slump!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful to beginners as well as Advanced (200+) bowlers.
This book is a cut above most of the stuff on the market. It is very practical.

While short on pictures, it is long on drawings and diagrams that explain many bowling concepts in ways that are easy to understand.

This book is useful to the advanced bowler as well as the beginner. The lane condition chart at the back and the advice on playing different lane conditions is interesting and valuable.

Borden is somewhat dogmatic in telling one how to bowl, but his way does work and work well. He spent hours taping professionals and distilling their games down to the fundamental things you have to do to succeed. His other book, Secrets of the Big Money Pro's is even better. I give that one 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A brief history of bowling.
I never thought in a million years that I would end up an avid bowler; but that all changed when my younger brother began participating in Special Olympics bowling. I try to show up as often as possible to his games to cheer him on and a couple of times after his practice I played a few additional practice games with him for fun. Wouldn't you know it, I eventually caught the bug and I have been bowling ever since.

I saw this miniature book at the book store and decided to buy it in order to learn a little more about the game. Although the book is a short read, it is a well informed and interesting look at the history of bowling, complete with some really cool retro art work and pictures. It includes sections on `Innovations,' `Bowling Around the World,' `The Greats,' `Bowling Culture,' etc. This would make the perfect small gift - especially as a stocking stuffer - for anyone who loves the sport. ...
