Product Description
-Written in an easy anecdotal style with plenty of examples to illustrate the points being made

-Based on the author's many years of experience in keeping ferrets

Graham Wellstead's long experience in keeping, breeding and working ferrets makes this an invaluable guide for the beginner and novice handler.

Realizing that the passing down of information on ferrets between generations was in danger of dying out and finding little written on the subject, the author was inspired to write this book. Since it was first published, ferret keeping has grown in popularity and The Ferret and Ferreting Guide, written in an easy, humorous style, includes anecdotes drawn from the author's many years of experience.

Advice is given on selecting ferrets, their care, feeding and housing, along with how to breed them. Training ferrets to hunt and the techniques and use of equipment is fully described. In addition, this book includes a guide to the legal aspects of hunting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nola, a young teen from Alta Donna, has lost her head over Damiano, a mysterious boy who can't even look at her!
Cats are always handy to talk to in a crisis and Nola was giving her Siamese a workout. There were no two ways about it. . .Nola York-Stein was simply cursed.Cursed in Alta Donna. She knew if the cat could talk she would say that she shouldn't "lose her head over a boy."Here she was, "barely a teen," and hanging out next to the phone waiting for it to ring.Damiano was going to have some explaining to do when she got back to school on Monday, especially about "all the mysteries surrounding his sister, Inés."Until then, she was simply going to have to stick by that phone.Naturally Mums was acting like a teenager again and that was totally annoying. The best thing she could do would be to take a bubbly bubble bath.Riiiiing!!! Guess who?Mums.

Nola could say anything to her mother and she didn't seem to listen. She was all excited about a party for a client and wanted Nola to go.Mums was a big businesswoman and only had eyes for work.At school Damiano and Inés, a brother and sister duo, talked about avoiding Nola and had eyes for everything BUT Nola.Even though Inés had taken Nola shopping, she scolded him saying, "And anyway I said it was dangerous to make friends." What on earth was dangerous about that?Just what kind of secrets were they hiding? Some really weird things happened when those two were around like the time Nola's best friend, Pumpkin, couldn't even remember that Nola had been tossed off the roller coaster at the carnival.Someone was casting some forgetting spells and she had to get to the bottom of it.

School never went well for Nola with that Lame-O teacher.Oh, and of course in biology class she forgot about her report on an animal and decided to talk about ferrets. . ."but ferrets secretly run the world. . .they manage our entire lives."Ugh!Things were going from bad to worse.Inés was telling her a pack of lies and Ragazzo called her a loser and a bizarro.AND Damiano wouldn't even look at her.She thought that things were much simpler when she was younger because "If you liked someone, all you had to do was punch him in the arm."Next thing you know she was at Mums party. Her very own Dad showed up and pushed her over the balcony! What was going on?There had to be a link between this attack, the attack on the librarian, and when Damiano and Inés showed up, but what was it?Were a bunch of ferrets really taking over the world?

Nola, a young teen from Alta Donna, has lost her head over Damiano, a mysterious boy who can't even look at her. This is the second in the series and its theme is coming together nicely, but you won't find any spoilers here.Nola is coming into her own and the reader will start to understand her much better and smile at her "bizarro" personality and lovable, sorta normal teenage ways.I appreciated Nola's wild imagination, especially when she was stuck in a classroom. Her relationships with her mostly absent Mums, her best friend Pumpkin, and the ones she would like to have, are becoming more distinct and more developed in this second book. The "mystery" is deepening, but the clues are coming faster now.The mangamongously appealing artwork is a real draw for me and the two-page spread of Nola's imaginary world of ferrets was amazing. This wildly imaginative, quirky, slightly zany graphic novel is one you might want to add to your list. . .if the ferrets will let you! ... STUDIES IN THE ART OF RAT CATCHING - With Additional Notes on Ferrets and Ferreting, Rabbiting and Long Netting By H.C. Barkley This fascinating book was first published in London 1911, with the writer relating his experiences as a professional rat and rabbit exterminator during the late 1800s. The book was written primarily as a guide to the rural art of vermin control for pupils of English public schools such as Eton, Harrow and Rugby. Despite the books title as much of the content is devoted to ferrets and rabbit control as it is to rat catching. READ COUNTRY BOOKS have now re-published this historical record using the original text and illustrations. 196 pages contain 10 chapters detailing such varied subjects as:- Ratting Tools. - Ferrets and Ferreting. - Learning Dog Language. - Rabbit Catching. - Long Netting. - Ratting Days. - Ratting Dogs etc. Although almost a century has passed since its first publication this excellent title is recommended for inclusion in the library of all true countrymen. Many of the earliest sporting books, particularly those dating back to the 1800s, are now extremely scarce and very expensive. READ COUNTRY BOOKS are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating information on training ferrets to hunt
I am not a hunter, but I do have pet ferrets, and am fascinated with all aspects of the domestic ferret. In England, where an overabundance of rabbit warrens actually cause property and environmental damage, ferrets are used in hunting rabbits. McKay presents a wealth of information on training ferrets for hunting, the equipment used, retrieval of ferrets in rabbit holes, as well as more mundane matters such as where to hunt. Most of the photographs illustrate the points made in the accompanying text. The squeamish should be forewarned that this is a hands on book about hunting, and some of the photographs graphically depict dead bunnies and very excited ferrets, which is completely appropriate for the title. I found this book to be an enjoyable introduction into the art of ferreting, which is practiced almost exclusively over the water.

Product Description
MINOR FIELD SPORTS by L. C. R. CAMERON

A book for the true countryman of all ages.First published in the early 1900s, now reprinted in a fine-quality hardback edition for a new generation. It will stir many nostalgic memories for older readers and teach younger ones some new and unusual methods of taking various kinds of quarry.

Its seven illustrated chapters cover 166 pages and include details and instructions on a fascinating variety of subjects, many of them now illegal. It's a truly readable book from a more innocent age when the country was a freer place.***

We've reprinted this with genuine pleasure. It describes the sporting activities of a generation only just removed from ours but now seperated forever by new legislation and a change in attitudes amongst out-of-touch urbanites. My father described it as 'almost a diary of my country childhood'. It is without doubt the most interesting book we've ever sold and I defy anyone with even a passing interest in the countryside or field sports to be able to flick through it without becoming absorbed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Minor Field Sports
What a wonderful little book. I believe it was written around 1900, when the countryside was a freer place. The contents bring back so many memories of my formative years in the English countryside. I have read other titles by this author who was a well known hunting man, but this is a book I can really identify with. He writes with a passion on all manner of country sports, many of them long vanished. Many of these pastimes will be new to most readers. Even I, who spent most of my boyhood free time hunting, stalking, fishing and ferreting, thought I could learn nothing new. That was until I discovered the authors interest and advice on such unusual pursuits as hawking insects with jackdaws, sniggling eels, beetle fighting, millipede racing, wiring pike, hedgehog hunting, squirrel hunting, netting sparrows, to name just a few. Of course there is much discussion of more recognisable field sports such as rabbit, badger and rat hunting, pigeon shooting, fox, hare and otter hunting etc but all are written about in such a manner as to stir many nostalgic memories in older readers such as myself, and also to teach younger ones some new and unusual methods of taking their quarry. I can thoroughly recommend this book and I am sure it will excite the interest of all true countrymen whatever their age. ... Read more

From the supplier: Forensic accounting techniques can be used to uncover and investigate fraud. Unlike conventional auditing approaches, forensic accounting does not use checklists and preset questions and procedures. It targets the indicators or red flags of fraud and other financial misdoings by identifying documents and events that deviate from the normal course of business. Given that fraud costs $400 billion annually for Corporate America, forensic accounting is becoming a useful tool against losses.
