He plays both hurling and football with his local club Stradbally and has been a member of the Waterford senior inter-county team since 2003. Michael Walsh was born in Stradbally, County Waterford in 1983. He was educated locally and later attended the Waterford Institute of Technology where he studied Business and Finance. Walsh plays his club hurling and football with his local Stradbally team. He has had much success with the club's football team, winning senior county championship medals in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. In 2003 he helped his native-county to defeat both Cork and Kerry to win the Munster Under-21 Football Championship. In 2003 Walsh made his debut with the Waterford senior hurling team, coming on as a substitute, replacing Tony Browne against Kerry in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. He subsequently claimed a Munster title, however, his side were later defeated in the All-Ireland semi-final. The following few years have brought little success for Walsh and Waterford. Product Description
Gaelic football, commonly referred to as "Football", "Gaelic", or "Gah", is a form of football played mainly in Ireland. It is, together with hurling, one of the two most popular spectator sports in Ireland. Statistics show the game drawing significantly more spectators than any other sport in Ireland; 2005 ESRI figures indicate that it draws 34% of total attendances at sports events in Ireland, with the closest rival, hurling drawing 23%. Football is one of four Gaelic games run by the Gaelic Athletic Association, the largest sporting organisation in Ireland which has far more club members than any other sport. It has strict rules on player amateurism and the pinnacle of the sport is the inter-county All-Ireland Football Final. The game is believed to have descended from ancient Irish football known as caid which dates back to medieval times, although the modern rules were not set down until 1886. Gaelic football is also played in countries outside of Ireland, often although not solely played by members of the Irish diaspora. ... Read more

Chapters: Gaelic Football Clubs in County Roscommon, Hurling Clubs in County Roscommon, St. Brigids Gaa, Clan Na Gael Gaa, Oran Hurling Gaa, St. Dominics Gaa. Excerpt: St. Brigids (Roscommon) GAA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia St. Brigids have captured four county titles since 1997. Under the management of John O'Mahony, they won their first title in 28 years in 1997 after defeating Clan na Gael in the final by 1-8 to 0-8, the goal coming from John Tiernan. They had to wait until 2000 before they reached the final again, but this time lost out to underdogs Kilbride. More defeats came in 2002 to Strokestown and in 2003 to Castlerea St. Kevins. In 2005, under the stewardship of Ger Dowd, they reclaimed the Fahey Cup by beating Padraig Pearses 2-9 to 0-11, both goals coming from John Tiernan. In 2006, under Anthony Cunningham, they defended their title in a tough encounter with St. Faithleach's on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-5, the goal courtesy of Garvan Dolan. In 2007, St. Brigids captures the three-in-a-row when they again defeated St. Faithleach's in the final by 1-12 to 0-9. A goal ten minutes from time by Brendan "Dixie" O'Brien sealed the win. Their Connacht Club campaigns were mixed up until 2006 when they captured the provincial crown for the first time. In 1997 they succumbed to a powerful Knockmore (Mayo) team in Kiltoom. In 2005 they reached the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship Final, after defeating Leitrim Champions Kiltubrid after a replay in Kiltoom. In the final in Pearse Stadium in Galway, they were defeated by the superior Salthill-Knocknacarra (Galway), the eventual All-Ireland winners. However, in 2006 they went all the way and claimed the Shane McGettigan Cup in dramatic circumstances. In the preliminary round they defeat... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=7407108 ... Read more

Excerpt: South Liberties GAA -Clubhouse at Dooley ParkThe club was founded in May 1884 when a group of people in the Ballysheedy area of County Limerick got together to play hurling. As the Barony of South Liberties covered most of the parish at that time, the name was used for the club. The boundaries of the Barony were marked with 'Liberty Stones' and the club has incorporated an image of the sole surviving stone into its crest. South Liberties' home ground in Ballysheedy is called Dooley Park, in memory of one of the club's greatest players. Johnny Dooley played for Liberties from the mid 1940s to 1970, when he died suddenly after playing in a county championship match. He was on the Limerick teams that won the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championships of 1948, 1954 and 1957. In the early days of the GAA, South Liberties were one of Limerick's greatest teams and contested the first five county finals, winning three of them in successive years, 1888-1890. A remarkable feature about these wins was that two of them were secured by the only score of an hour's hurling - one point in each case; made more remarkable by the fact that these games were played in the days when each side had 21 players and there were point posts at both sides of the goal, covering almost half of the end-line. On both occasions the point was scored by the same player, Con Sheehan, with Liberties defeating Murroe at Croom on 15 May 1888 and Kilfinane at Ráth Luirc on 13 July 1890. He also scored in the 1889 final when Liberties beat Caherline 1-2 to 0-3 at Croom on 13 July. John (Jack) Malone ca...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=14661507 ... Read more
