Excerpt: The 2009 Indoor Cricket World Cup was the ninth edition of the tournament and took place between the 11th and 17th of October 2009 in Brisbane, Australia. The event is notable as the first international indoor cricket event to take place there since the merger of Indoor Cricket Australia and Cricket Australia. Australian Cricket hall of fame member and former test cricketer Ian Healy served as ambassador for the event. The 2009 Junior World Series of Indoor Cricket took place alongside this event. The World Cup was awarded to Australia by the WICF at the conclusion of the previous World Cup. As a result Australia became the second nation to host the World Cup twice, having hosted the 1998 Indoor Cricket World Cup at the Glass House in Melbourne. As the national body for both traditional cricket and indoor cricket, Cricket Australia is the first unified national body to host an international indoor cricket event. Cricket Australia determined that the West Brisbane Indoor Sports Centre in Brisbane would host all World Cup matches and Brisbane became the host city as a result. Cricket Australia relocated the 2009 Australian Open Indoor Cricket Championships from Campbelltown to Brisbane to serve as a test event for the new venue. Cricket Australia has arranged for limited delayed telecast of the finals series on Fox Sports in Australia. This represents the first mainstream television coverage of an Indoor Cricket event (international or otherwise) in a decade. Fox Sports wil...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=23236672 ... Read more

Excerpt: The Indoor Cricket World Cup is the premier international championship of both men's and women's Indoor Cricket. The event is organised by the sport's governing body, the World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) and is held every two or three years. The first Indoor Cricket World Cup contest was organised in England in 1995. Separate world championships are held for both junior and masters age groups with the Junior World Series of Indoor Cricket and the Masters World Series of Indoor Cricket held at similar intervals. The World Cup is contested by the members of the WICF (though member nations have not always entered teams) and beyond being an affiliated member of that body there are no formal qualifications for entry. Australia have been the most successful side having won every world title in both divisions to date. The 2011 Indoor Cricket World Cup will be held in South Africa. Whilst the precise nature of the tournament has varied slightly over the years, each tournament usually follows a simple round robin format followed by finals contested by the highest placed sides. The semi finals are contested by the top four sides and more often than not the winner of each semi final progresses to the World Cup final. The tournament usually takes place over the course of 7 to 10 days and is sometimes run in conjunction with the Masters World Series or the Junior World Series. ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=20075469 ... Chapters: Fielding, Substitute, Indoor Cricket Court, Slip, Fielding Restrictions. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 32. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Fielding in the sport of cricket is the action of fielders in collecting the ball after it is struck by the batsman, in such a way as to either limit the number of runs that the batsman scores or get the batsman out by catching the ball in flight or running the batsman out. A fielder or fieldsman may field the ball with any part of his person. However, if while the ball is in play he wilfully fields it otherwise (e.g. by using his hat), the ball becomes dead and 5 penalty runs are awarded to the batting side unless the ball previously struck a batsman not attempting to hit or avoid the ball. Most of the rules covering fielders are in Law 41 of the Laws of cricket. In the early days of Test cricket, fielding was not a priority and many players were sloppy when it came to fielding. With the advent of One Day International matches, fielding became more professional as saving runs became more important. A good fielding side can often save 30+ runs in the course of an ODI innings. Fielding positionsSince there are only 11 players on a team, one of whom is the bowler, and usually another as the wicket-keeper, at most nine other fielding positions can be used at any given time. Which positions are filled by players and which remain vacant is a tactical decision made by the captain of the fielding team. The captain (usually in consultation with the bowler and sometimes other members of the team) may move players between fielding positions at any time except when a bowler is in the act of bowling to a batsman. There are a number of named basic fielding positions, some of which are employed very commonly and others that are used less often. H...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=65951 ... Read more

Product Description
Most South Africans heard the story of Basil D'Oliviera - he travelled from the dusty fields of the Cape Flats to England, to realize a dream of playing test cricket. But how many have heard of the equally talented Cecil Abrahams, Owen Williams, Dik Abed, Coetie Neethling, Saait Magiet, Vincent Barnes, and countless others, who were denied the opportunity of playning the game at the highest level? What were the aims and ideals of the Western Province Cricket Board? What motivated their players? Why did their clubs have to play on matting wickets surrounded by sand and weeds? Why did so many of their members campaign so enthusiastically for an international ban to be imposed on their white counterparts? And what motivated them eventually to form a single, united provincial body with the white Western Province Cricket Union in 1991? More Than A Game - History of the Western Province Cricket Board 1959-1991, brings you all the answers in a no-holds barred, blow-by-blow account of an organisation that refused to be cowed - by the apartheid government, by rival bodies, and even by some of their own members. Includes match summaries, averages, career and performance records, an index. ... Read more

Excerpt: Glendalough (Irish: , meaning "Glen of Two Lakes") is a glacial valley located in County Wicklow, Ireland, renowned for its Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin, a hermit priest, and destroyed in 1398 by English troops. Kevin, a descendant of one of the ruling families in Leinster, studied as a boy under the care of three holy men, Eoghan, Lochan, and Eanna. During this time, he went to Glendalough. He was to return later, with a small group of monks to found a monastery where the 'two rivers form a confluence'. Kevin's writings discuss his fighting a "monster" at Glendalough; scholars today believe this refers to his process of self-examination and his personal temptations. His fame as a holy man spread and he attracted numerous followers. He died in about 618. For six centuries afterwards, Gle...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=81236 ... Read more

Roof The stadium roof is made from fabric imported from Germany. It is Indias first and largest fabric roof. Sound System DY Patil Sports Stadium is the first Cricket Stadium in the entire world to have full fledged concert level reinforced music system. Lighting The masts are the tallest in the country, providing excellent lighting throughout the ground. Moreover, the high-quality illumination ensures that the stadium is adequately prepared for the latest television technologies such as HDTV (High Definition TV). Permanent diesel generators have been installed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during games. Pitch and outfield For the ground, 250 tons of clay were imported from South Africa. The pitch was prepared based on the advice and guidance of professors Neil Tainton and John Klug, also of South Africa. Stadiums around India typically have outfields made from red soil. When it rains, the outfield tends to become sluggish and heavy. To minimise the interruption because of rain, outfield is sand based. A completely concealed underground drainage system helps quickly remove water. A nursery ground with 10 practice pitches is also on the campus of the DYPSA. Spectator comfort and safety The stadium has been designed keeping in mind spectator comfort and safety. Every spectator has an individual bucket seat. There are no pillars obstructing views of the ground. Two ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=7505720 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars croquet basics
this is a great beginner croquet book; the basics are explained easily and clearly. i ordered 70 of them for a croquet tournament. the delivery was early which was great and i am giving the books to the tournament players to take back home and give to their own beginner players! a great way to spread the word!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have rule book.
I hadn't played the game of croquet since I was a child. When I purchaseda set, I decided that the small pamphlet that came with the set, did notanswer all my questions on the sport. I wanted one book with good courtset-up diagrams, rules for various games one can play in croquet,a glossaryof terms, and perhaps some tips on techniques. I found all of this and morein Mr. Boga's book.In typical instruction books, Iusually skip the"history of" chapter and get right to the "meat" of thebook. I read, and finished, this chapter before realizing it. It offeredsome interesting tidbits that I now regal my family with in-between wacksof my mallet. This is a wonderful book for a returning croquet playerlike me who had forgottenjust about every aspect of the game, except forthe thrill of sending an opponent's ball off. For those who already have agood grap of the basics, it has additional chapters on strategy, winningthe mental game, and getting better. One last bonus of this book is it'ssmall size. It is quite easy to whip out and reference when there is adisagreement on the official rules of the game. ... Read more
