5-0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE book
I bought this book in around 1992 and immediately fell in love with it.I was at a very stressful job, and I used to make myself laugh out loud with the answers I would create. The book is rather simple in a way, but joyfully challenging in another. The author challenges you to come up with more and more creative answers to very simple questions. An example is what are 6 ways to keep from spilling your coffee while driving. Most people start with the obvious or practical, like get a mug with a lid, or drink through a straw. But, if you let yourself go, and give yourself permission to be silly (creative) you come up with things like: spill it while the car is stopped, spill orange juice instead, spill it when you are a passenger, ask someone to spill it for you.I found that I was able to get out my frustration for my manager in the pages of the book (while laughing hsyterically), allowing me to remain civil and professional with her.In fact it was at this job that the idiots there threw the book away while I was on medical leave.I have been searching for it for 12 years!I just got my used copy online and danced around the kitchen. My old friend was BACK!!Buy this book and make yourself laugh!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous resource to entertain and teach creative thinking!
My classroom, fellow teachers, and groups of friends enjoyed the 365 clever creative thinking exercises. Can be a useful tool for children and a great party game book for adults. Many teachers looking for copies of their own....I guard mine with my life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice approach to running and jogging and how to make the most of it
Although the book title may sound a little condescending, the text and all information in the book is well written, informative and helpful.Bill Rodgers comes across as friendly and funny and offers a no nonsense approach to great fitness techniques. If you are currently idle and want to start running or jogging (they are both virtually the same, by the way) or you are already at a certain fitness level, this book will help you in different ways.

I had been running for about 2 years at 6 miles a week and thought I had a solid routine.I'd never read any books on fitness or working out or anything so I decided to pick up The Complete Idiots Guide to Jogging and Running to see what I'd been missing. After reading this book and employing some things I'd learned from it, I now run 15 miles a week and I might even add more distance to my daily running in the future.

As far as beginning and distance running, the whole spectrum is covered in the book.It first shows a 4 week program that starts with walking and builds up to a climax of running non-stop for a 30 minute time period at the end of the 4 weeks. You can stop there or continue on to get information about racing too. There are chapters that will explain strength training and techniques used to prepare for 5k , 8k and 10k races (8 week training schedules),half-marathons (10 week training schedules), and marathons (12 week training schedules).

Another great thing about the book is all the additional chapters that will enhance your total running experience. These include such topics as best times and places to run, how to select the best running shoes and running apparel, proper stretching methods along with cross-training ideas, dietary recommendations for your fitness program, and coping with injuries and recovery from them. And if that isn't enough, there is also a chapter dedicated exclusively to women pointing out differences between male and female running and also running effectively in different types of weather conditions.

For what is offered and for such a nice price, The Complete Idiots Guide to Jogging and Running is an excellent choice for people of all ages and types who just want to be healthy and have fun doing it.I highly recommend this book to everyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little condescending...
Lots of useful information, but the author is a little too experienced in marathons and distance-running to be giving advice to beginners. For example, he uses phrases like "only one mile" to talk about runners who, in his words, don't put much effort into their runs. Meanwhile, for me, one mile would be a huge accomplishment, as it would be for anyone who's never ran before (which is who the book purports to be for). It seemed like the author finds runs of less than 30 minutes to be pointless or easy, which of course it is for him, but for novices there should be more encouragement to run any distance that they can.

5-0 out of 5 stars this programme works!
I could not run (very slowly, more a jog) for one minute then got this book. It has a four week programme designed to get you running for 30 minutes in that time span and it works. Now I'm doing the programme again to encourage my husband and I'm running even faster this time. Buy it and try it. It works.

2-0 out of 5 stars I want a book that will give me directions, not run-arounds
This is a book for total beginners.

However, I'm just [mad] that the book is too broad. To every question, the answer is always "well, it depends on...".

I want a clear cut answer, not run arounds. That was a waste of moola.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this book!
It's the first REAL running book for REAL beginners. They don't expect you to eventually run a marathon or race like the wind, but just run for the sheer heck of it. (What a unique perspective among running books!)

The authors address many issues such as the idea you'll ruin your knees, or working out a lower heart rate to burn more fat, and the book is loaded with sound, easy-to-follow advice, information, and motivation.

And they know what a TRUE "beginner" is. I hate books that think 'starting out' means 'run for 30 minutes and work your way up' or that say to walk for a couple of months first. (If I wanted that, I'd buy a book on walking, not running.) The authors offer a realistic, progressive plan for running. Probably the only thing is that the suggested progession plan might be too fast for some, depending on your current fitness level.

The book is practical and sensible, and well-worth the investment. ... Read more

Product Description
We propose that the major healthcrises in the United Statesare not about heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, or obesity. Instead they areabout violence, prejudice, social isolation, and runaway materialism.Unfortunately, traditional health promotion continues to "attack" our problemsby declaring war on disease, obsessing about epidemiologically based riskfactors and frightening people about what they eat, how much they weigh, andwhat they like to do or not do. These approaches rarely help and often createan atmosphere of anxiety and confusion. This book is an invitation tohealth professionals to rethink our current understanding of health, illness, and the process of healing. It covers topics that are rarely addressed inhealth promotion including the history of the human species, the ScientificRevolution, quantum physics, and the latest mind/body/spirit research. While itmay seem as if this information is only marginally related to health, webelieve it provides a critical foundation for the truly holistic approach tohealth promotion we describe in detail in this book.It is time to re-create ourprofession and set a daring new course to improve the quality of the humanexperience. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars okay, but
Jon is a good speaker and he does awaken certain areas that all pople should be aware of, but for the layman who may never get a handle on what holistic health is all about, the book is too hard to read or understand. He should take some pointers from the true "Guru" of holistic health who's books and podcasts have been educating people for years. Forget the Cures, Find the Cause is still the most readable and appropriate book for covering the true holistic approach to health.Books I and II should be the first read, and then you can add Jon's book for further reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jon Robison is the best . . .
After hearing Jon Robison speak at a conference in Hamilton, Ontario in June 2006 I just HAD to get his book.

Although it's sometimes hard reading, I'd still recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about the whole concept of mind over matter.

(If you ever get the chance to hear him speak - GO!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Gurus of holistic health
Just out, and worth the wait. The subtitle says it all:"More than broccoli, jogging, and bottled water . . . More than yoga, herbs, and meditation."The gurus of holistic health have packaged the stark truth about current health promotion thinking and approaches and practically dare health promotion professionals to conduct yet another "wellness" program with incentives after reading chapter 10, "To reward or not to reward:Questioning the use of behavior modification."Take the dare.Read this book.Your programs will be stronger for it.Review reprinted from the Health-e headlines Corporate Report (www.health-eheadlines.com). ... Product Description
A jogging handbook. It renews Arthur Lydiard's philosophy of jogging, just as it was 40 years ago. It is a guide to why you should jog, if you are not jogging already; how you jog, or jog better if you jog already; and how it holds back the degeneration that does not necessarily have to accompany the advancing years. Lydiard argues that jogging will not stop you growing older but it will help you to grow older more gracefully and with less loss of both physical and mental mobility. ... Read more

We are delighted to be reissuing this lovely book with new cover artwork from Ian Beck. It's a collection of rhymes to enjoy when baby is on your knee or cradled in your arms; jolly rhymes for playful babies and gentle rhymes for sleepy babies. Many traditional favourites are here, including 'This is the Way the Ladies Ride', 'Rub-a-Dub-Dub', and 'Rock-a-Bye-Baby' - and they are all cheerily illustrated by Ian Beck. The rhymes are gathered into four sections: knee-jogging rhymes; bouncing and dancing rhymes; patting and clapping rhymes; and lullabies and rocking rhymes - and there are introductory notes for parents at the beginning of each section. Product Description
This econometric study covers the world outlook for men's and boys' sweaters, sweatpants, jogging and warm-up suits, playsuits, beachwear and ski apparel made from purchased fabrics excluding swimsuits across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for men's and boys' sweaters, sweatpants, jogging and warm-up suits, playsuits, beachwear and ski apparel made from purchased fabrics excluding swimsuits. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more
