Product Description
BoomerWalk is written for the 75 million aging baby boomers who need a highly aerobic but low-impact alternative to running and jogging to maintain or regain fitness. Racewalking, a technique that can be learned quickly but that may be perfected for a lifetime, is the ideal joint-friendly exercise for fitness and vigor into old age. The sport even offers competition for those who want it. BoomerWalk identifies the benefits of racewalking, describes the fundamentals of technique and includes detailed photos of baby boomer athletes exhibiting proper form. Profiles of 14 racewalkers with ages ranging from middle 50s to early 90s illustrate the life-long benefits of the sport. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Boomerwalk
Good book that provides encouragement for anyone interested in staying fit and healthy but also likes the competition of other walkers. Good references to other racewlking websites and tips for stretching, walking techniques and short section on choosing shoes.

Competitive racewalking improved my life greatly as I could not play more rigorous sports anymore due to neck problems. The Racewalker Profiles should be helpful for people new to racewalking and give them encouragement. I usually finish in the top 3 of my age group every race I enter but as I tell others, win or lose my greatest enjoyment comes from racing against that little voice inside that says "quit". "Boomerwalk" helps give you the confidence to keep walking and enjoy the benefits you receive. You really feel good.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book...good info!
having racewalked in the past, I was encouraged by this book to get a jumpstart on beginning again...the author and publisher both took care of a printing error as soon as I emailed them. and Amazon came through beautifully as well...
if you are interested in racewalking ...and you should be....get this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars a little short on information and inspiration
At 101 pages, including the appendix, a little short on information. Best for someone without access to the internet, as the information in the book is easily found with a simple search. I also bought RACE WALK LIKE A CHAMPION by Jeff Savage along with the DVD and highly recommend those. Racewalking is difficult to learn from a simple description and the DVD is very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
I have just finished reading BoomerWalk by Brent Bohlen and I highly recommend it to those who are thinking about or have just started to racewalk. This book is an easy to understand must read with a lot of great information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Miss the adrenaline rush of competition?Bohlen gives it back...
At 50 years old with aching knees due to years of tennis, running, racquetball, and basketball, I needed an alternative to fuel my competitive instincts, and keep my aging body in shape.Brent Bohlen's BoomerWalk gave me just what I needed on both fronts...racewalking.Bohlen clearly explains why boomers like me should take up racewalking. He breaks down the fundamentals of the art using excellent illustrations, offers training tips, then mixes in profiles of newbie and experienced competitive racewalkers, and their strategies for success. The book reminds me of Dave Pelz' Putting Bible.Everything you need to get off the couch and back in competition is in this book. If you're like me, your copy of Bohlen's book will never be far away.Save your knees!Try racewalking and get back in the game! ... Read more

Jogging to Lose Weight

Anyone who is trying to lose weight needs to engage in some kind of aerobic exercise in order to boost the metabolism to burn calories faster. Although a brisk walk will suffice, many people are more comfortable with jogging and feel it works better for them. Making the choice to jog during weight loss will not only help you lose weight but will also help you get into the routine of exercising, a move that will help you keep the weight off when you have reached your goal weight. The ideal exercise for weight loss is a combination of aerobic and resistance exercise-jogging combined with some weight lifting routines.

Getting into the habit of jogging is not a difficult one for most people, but if you have never been one to exercise, it may come as a shock at first. You do not want to try to jump right into a long jogging workout but rather begin slowly and work your way up to where you want to be. Do not rush to reach the amount of time you wish to spend jogging but let your body guide you and let you know when you are ready. If you allow your body to be your guide, it will be much easier to work into a jogging routine
without all of the discomfort.

In order to achieve the ultimate weight loss, you want to make jogging part of your routine but not the only exercise you perform. Although aerobic exercise is what helps you burn calories, resistance xercise helps you build lean muscle mass which burns fan faster. Therefore the perfect routine is a combination of aerobic and resistance exercise. Of course, if you can't do the resistance routines for health reasons, then certainly you can obtain the benefits from jogging but you may find it takes longer to accomplish.

However, any kind of exercise you can perform will certainly help you lose weight and keep it off after you have reached your goal weight. You have to remember you will need to keep it up in order to maintain your weight loss. You cannot stop once you have reached your goal weight and expect to maintain the results.

Do not overdo your jogging in an attempt to lose weight faster. Though you may accomplish that goal, it will be at the cost of your health. Working your muscles too hard even in jogging can cause your muscles and cartilage to become damaged thus preventing you from doing many activities including jogging. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Body and mind running
This amazing little book was years ahead of fitness books in the 70's.In a few pages, Mike describes weight training, nutrition, running routines, mental tricks and body-mind experiences.Stuff that you normally do not see in a running book. I picked this book up while a young man in the army and within a few months, I was one of the fastest runners on base.More than once, I have used the visualization techniques to win a race. The beauty is that I actually trained less, but trained and ate better. Now in my 50's I still refer to this handy training manual.

WHAT IS LATENT DEMAND AND THE P.I.E.?

The concept of latent demand is rather subtle. The term latent typically refers to something that is dormant, not observable, or not yet realized. Demand is the notion of an economic quantity that a target population or market requires under different assumptions of price, quality, and distribution, among other factors. Latent demand, therefore, is commonly defined by economists as the industry earnings of a market when that market becomes accessible and attractive to serve by competing firms. It is a measure, therefore, of potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) or total revenues (not profit) if a market is served in an efficient manner. It is typically expressed as the total revenues potentially extracted by firms. The “market” is defined at a given level in the value chain. There can be latent demand at the retail level, at the wholesale level, the manufacturing level, and the raw materials level (the P.I.E. of higher levels of the value chain being always smaller than the P.I.E. of levels at lower levels of the same value chain, assuming all levels maintain minimum profitability).

The latent demand for men's and boys' sweaters, sweatpants, jogging and warm-up suits, playsuits, beachwear and ski apparel made from purchased fabrics excluding swimsuits is not actual or historic sales. Nor is latent demand future sales. In fact, latent demand can be lower either lower or higher than actual sales if a market is inefficient (i.e., not representative of relatively competitive levels). Inefficiencies arise from a number of factors, including the lack of international openness, cultural barriers to consumption, regulations, and cartel-like behavior on the part of firms. In general, however, latent demand is typically larger than actual sales in a country market.

For reasons discussed later, this report does not consider the notion of “unit quantities”, only total latent revenues ... Read more
