5-0 out of 5 stars A Great easy book!
This book contains 17 close-up, clear and current photographs of motocross riders in action. The book outlines the types of bikes used, the equipment necessary and safety measures.I feel it is a great book for a young reader interested in motocross.Although it is RL2, I would say it might be a higher reading level. There are words such as suspension, equipment and others that might be difficult for a young reader. The book is well constructed with a hard bound cover and heavy weight pages. It provides additional resources in the back via websites and other books. ... This book will help u get to your stages u want to get to. Some of the tricks you have to do on bigger jumps because you have to get more air time but build up slowly on ramps and get into bigger tricks. You never know you might be in the x games or gravity games.

3-0 out of 5 stars Room for improvement
I'm having a hard time reading this book.I think the gems of information are in there, but I'm having work pretty hard to get them out. Why?Formatting: low contrast color choices. In some places, dark text on a dark background makes for difficult reading in low light.Clarity: the author(s) repeatedly fail to define terms precisely.I'm left to guess what they mean.A how-to book shouldn't leave the reader wondering.Ego: they seem to worship Jeremy McGrath.Call him infallible. It feels like a primary school clique to me.Bad science:For example, pg.41, tip #5: "Carry most of your weight on the footpegs to lower your center of gravity."Based on my understanding of basic physics, changing the position of where the rider's weight is supported has nothing to do with where the rider's center of gravity is.Sure it's good advice, carrying the rider's weight on the footpegs drastically improves the bike's handling, but the authors' explanation of the physics is complete nonsense. It leads me to question all other explanations.I imagine the authors know their stuff, but they've got a lot of room for improvement to communicate their ideas in print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Full of Great Riding Tips
This proved to be a very useful book to me.The authors of this book broke down the various aspects that are required to ride a dirtbike efficiently and safely. After I read through this book, I could critique my riding technique and make corrections.I immediately noticed results the first weekend out in the woods. My speed was increase and my comfort levels went up.At the conclusion of that ride, I noticed that I was less tired than usual and could have went back out for more.I've become a better rider as result of reading this book.I would recommend it to anybody wanting to become a better rider.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
This is just a gorgeous book, I had the old Gary Semics manual, it was black and white photocopy stuff, this new book has all the Gary Semics stuff with updates and many sections covering different terrains, bikes and setups. The pictures are outstanding, I showed it to my dirtbike buddies and everyone wanted to buy their own copy. They usually copy the stuff so that says a lot about the quality. The information is of the highest quality, Gary Semics is maybe the top motocross teacher in the world, and his "47 absolute techniques of motocross" WILL make you a better rider even if you just ride for fun with your friends. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!
This is an excellent book for improving your skills and preventing the spills. The pictures and instructions are so well written that anybody can understand and apply the techniques. A huge variety of topics for both trail riders and motocross racers, this book has plenty to offer all riders at any experience level. The chapters and subjects are well organized and easy to read. You will not be disappointed..

5-0 out of 5 stars Best off-road motorcycle book around
My husband and I both ride... but he's the one who rides on the dirt as well as the road. He's been looking for a book like this for ages, and was elated when I presented it to him as a birthday gift. It's packed with information and pictures on off-road riding, which requires techinques that no-one seems to write about - but it's all here in this book. A must buy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I could have done better
Just because the writer was a doctor does not lend creditablility to the information. It was terrible. Way to juvenile.
I have a small team of racers that I support. Three sisters from a family of eight(8) kids. So, I support the three (3) oldest to the tune of 15-16K in 2006. We have six race bikes and two practice bikes. Our biggest supporter is a local mechanic that donates his time for free. I am able to do quit a bit of the maintance, but not the big stuff. We drive 140 miles round trip across Phoenix friday afternoons to get to our track. That is a story into it's self. We have won three races, but it's mostly for me to spoil some kids that their parents are not able to because of the size of the family. So I help a little.
I contacted Amazon for a return label to return this book, and I am still waiting.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Tool
Well written and good direction

5-0 out of 5 stars If you've got a dirt bike, you ought to have this book
I bought this book on the recommendation of Dirt Rider magazine who listed it as one of their 20 'must have' products of 1997. They're not wrong. This book is a concise and well written guide for the home mechanic. While it doesn't have the detailed frame by frame guidance of a manual specifically for your bike, it's got lots of good information on how your bike works and why. Topics covered vary from basic maintenance and bike setup through to maintaining forks and transmission disassembly. For tasks such as shock rebuilds that your average owner is not likely to perform in their garage, the approach is to make you an informed consumer of specialist services. Both two strokes and four strokes are covered. There is a chapter which I think many owners will find very useful on best value mods for your bike. The four Japanese manufacturers are covered, with most MX bikes from 92-96 listed. The KDX200 (83-96), RMX 250 (89-95) and some XR tuning tips are also included in this section. If you're into off-road motorcycling you're likely to find this book very handy to have. ... Read more

Book Description
The American motocross and supercross circuit is the most competitive, prestigious and lucrative in the off-road world. As a result, it attracts the very best talent from all over the sport. Top riders from motocross hotbeds such as France, Australia, Costa Rica and South Africa line up on the starting gate to challenge the best riders in the United States of America has to offer. While the American Circuit is considered a "national" one by definition, it could be argued that he U.S tours are the true world championships of supercross and motocross racing (In the case of supercross, it really was part of a world Championship, as two races in Europe preceded the 16 rounds held in the United States as part of the FIM/THQ World Supercross GP tour.)

What follows here in the pages of American Motocross Illustrated: Volume 2 are the incredible photographs made by Simon Cudby throughout the season in an effort to capture the excitement and drama surrounding the most competitive racing circuit in the Entire sport: American Motocross. ...
