A must have for any Muay Thai enthusiast, or someone who just want to know more about this form of martial arts. Full of instructional and knowledge of Muay Thai. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good teaching of the art from its homeland
A pretty good book for everybody fallen in love with the art. It's written in a not perfect english, but it is understandable. The author is a serious person who travelled almost all over the world, bringing his deep knowledge to every foreign thai boxer. The book itself doesn't have many more fighting drills than other ones written by foreign or Thai authors have. However it gives you the idea of what the art means for Thai people and should spiritualy mean for everybody practicing it, even though nothing will replace a SERIOUS training in the homeland, for those who want to become a real thai boxer and not just a hybrid kickboxer. In my opinion this book is very good for beginners, amateur fighters and ex-pros that have no connections with Thai teachers, and want to teach "the art" instead of teaching the two or three winning strikes that make their athletes champions with no deep knowledge of many unused yet extremely efficient techniques in any field. As far as I've read I found some tricks very useful, and I know I'll find out more.
Good luck to everybody ... Read more

Excerpt: Muay Thai (Thai: , RTGS: Muai Thai, IPA: ) is a hard martial art from Thailand. It is similar to other Indochinese styles of kickboxing, namely pradal serey from Cambodia, tomoi from Malaysia, lethwei from Myanmar and Muay Lao from Laos. Descended from muay boran, Muay Thai is Thailand's national sport. The word muay derives from the Sanskrit mavya and Thai comes from the word Tai. Muay Thai is referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science Of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact", as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (hands and feet) used in sport-oriented martial arts. A practitioner of Muay Thai is known as a nak muay. Western practitioners are sometimes called nak muay farang meaning foreign boxer. Praying before the matchVarious forms of kickboxing have long been practiced throughout mainland Southeast Asia. Based on a combination of Chinese and Indian martial arts, practitioners claim they date back two thousand years. In Thailand, Muay Thai evolved from muay boran (ancient boxing), an unarmed combat method which would probably have been used by Siamese soldiers after losing their weapons in battle. Some believe that the ancient Siamese military created Muay Thai from the weapon-based art of krabi krabong but others contend that the two were merely developed alongside each other. Krabi Krabong nevertheless was an important influence on Muay Thai as can be seen in several kicks, holds and the movements in the wai khru which have their origins in armed combat. Muay Boran, and therefore Muay Thai, was originally called dhoi muay or simply muay. As well as being a practical fighting technique for use in actual warfare, muay... Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Taekwondo (태권도; 跆拳道; Korean pronunciation: ) is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. In Korean, tae (태, 跆) means "to strike or break with foot"; kwon (권, 拳) means "to strike or break with fist"; and do (도, 道) means "way," "method," or "art." Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as "the way of the foot and fist" or "the way of kicking and punching." Taekwondo was the world's most popular martial art in terms of the number of practitioners, in 1989. Its popularity has resulted in the varied development of the martial art into several domains: as with many other arts, it combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, meditation, and philosophy. Taekwondo is also used by the South Korean military as part of its training. Gyeorugi (pronounced ), a type of sparring, has been an Olympic event since 2000. Formally, there are two main styles of taekwondo. One comes from the Kukkiwon, the source of the sparring system sihap gyeorugi which is now an event at the summer Olympic Games and which is governed by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). The other comes from the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). Separate from the various taekwondo organizations, there have been two general branches of taekwondo development: traditional and sport. The term "traditional taekwondo" typically refers to the martial art as it was established in the 1950s and 1960s in the South Korean military forces; in particular, the names and symbolism of the traditional patterns often refer to elements of Korean history. Product Description
... Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Kalarippayattu (Malayalam കളരിപയറ്റ്, pronounced ) is an Indian martial art from Kerala, South India. Possibly one of the oldest fighting systems in existence, it is practiced in Kerala and contiguous parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as well as northeastern Sri Lanka and among the Malayalee community of Malaysia. This martial art was practiced primarily by the martial castes like Nairs of Kerala. The word is spelled variously as kalari payat, kalarippayatta, kalaripayatt and many others depending on the dialect and romanisation system used. It includes strikes, kicks, grappling, preset forms, weaponry and healing methods. Regional variants are classified according to geographical position in Kerala; these are the northern style, the southern style and the central style. Northern kalari payat is based on the principle of hard technique, while the southern style primarily follows the soft techniques, even though both systems make use of internal and external concepts. Some of the choreographed sparring in kalari payat can be applied to dance and kathakali dancers who knew martial arts were believed to be markedly better than the other performers. Some traditional Indian dance schools still incorporate kalari payat as part of their exercise regimen.
