Key product
The amazing thing is that... this CD cost me less than a day pass at the local ski site, and saved me years of floundering around on snow.Tao (the way) of skiing is a large web site on a CD-Rom, complete with ample advise (text, images and small movies).The movies were a lot of fun and the text was straight to the point. (The way you would want to be instructed).Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the package and appreciated what it has done for me... and I'm not hung on an occasional Typo.

Great format and delivery - Well Done.
The CD-ROM is packed full of great advice delivered in easy to read point form (like an Aide Memoire). Each sentence or teaching point stands on its own.I could take one gem of knowledge at a time; without having to wade through pages of pretentious prose.The explanations were very precise and most meaningful to those with some skiing experience under their belt. Best read with an open mind.

What a fun way to study technique
A CD-ROM; I do not know why someone did not think of this before. It is great. I spent hours digesting hundreds of hints on everything from technique, to training and playing the fun and informative Quicktime videos. It is not often that you can look into a decade worth of training diary entries and training notes of a World Cup Gold medalist.

Excellent in every way!
Tao of Skiing is technically not a book.It is a CD-ROM packed full of goodies.The multimedia works very well especially if you are looking for a better way to ski.The Tao of Sking is the most rewarding reference I have found.Thousands of hints and ideas, photos, diagrams and a dozen quicktime videos kept me totally engaged.I also purchased the xczone video "On Snow" and can highly recommend both.

Cross country skiing
Great book. Beautiful color photos, great historical stories that give an enjoyable perspective on XC skiing. The technique and equipment are also reviewed.

Good basic
This book begs to be picked up.The photos are beautiful.Why 3 stars?Because there are simply too many errors in the actual ski techniques to get you past novice.

Great Looking Book
This is a great looking book on cross-country skiing.Color photos andsuperb layout.It is one of the nicest books for beginner and noviceskiers.

Better skiers are going to find it weak on technical contentwith most of the explainations taking a certain artistic licence at theexpense of accuracy. Two books advanced skiers should look into are"Tao of Sking" and "Ski Skating With Champions."

Great book for beginners
I recently started Cross country skiing and I purchased this book.I found it very helpful and informative.Anyone just starting cross country skiing should buy it.It has many great pictures and diagrams that help inlearning different techniques.

Interesting but...
Cross-country downhill and other Nordic mountain skiing techniques is anbold idea for its time.Today where nordic ski racer regularly exceed 50mph on racing skis or we have extreme telemark films, the book is dated. Good historical reference.

The original book of XC downhill techniques
Barnett's book was the first to describe the downhill techniques- noteably the Telemark turn- to the modern generation of XC skiers. It was written long befor ethe current crop of edged "Telemark" skis, plastic boots and heavy cable bindings, which is an advantage, as he teaches you techniques possible in light touring equipment. Indeed, some illustrations show Barnett skiing in light skis and Adidias racing boots and bindings. A valuable addition to the tourer's library. If you can find a copy, buy it. ... Read more

Very good for beginning training
This book has the basics and more for someone beginning a training program for Cross Country Skiing.It also contains an endurance test, strength tests and stretches specific for Nordic skiing.The wide variety of levels/workout programs will fit anyones needs and desire, with some exercises and training sessions for each level.This book is skiing specific with some equipment selection and skiing technique infromation.There is also some handy tables and forms.*THINK SNOW*

Another good book on ski training
Fitness Cross-Country Skiing by Steve Gaskill is a commendable book foranyone who wants to train seriously.It covers pretty much everything butstops short of integrating technique with fitness. Other books which Ifound useful in my training were Training for cross-country ski racingbyBrian Sharkey and Tao of Skiing cd rom by xczone.

for the serious cross-country skier
This book is definitely for the cross-country skier who is also a racer, or wants to begin racing. This is not the book for the occasional skier who only wants to slide and glide on the golf course. Told through the experiences of former Olympic ski coach Alf Engen, we relive the days when ski jumps were constructed of rickety wooden frames, when loop bindings strapped around the skier's boots held his fate, and when records were being broken all the time as ski sports developed from their fledgling roots to more sophisticated tests of courage and skill.

Along with a historical review of the major competitions across the United States from the 1930s to the present, For the Love of Skiing relates many of the wildest early ski adventures. Alf and Sverre Engen recall a "barnstorming," summer jumping competition in Omaha, where snow was sparse and straw and soap had been added to the track to make it slicker. This book will appeal to people that know and love Alta, Utah or are interested in the history of skiing in the Western US.It primarily chronicles the life of Alf Engen, and therefore, chronicles the history ofAlta and and an important part of skiing in the west.Engen was theinventor of modern powder skiing and richly deserves the honor of thisbook.

Neat pictures, but kind of a muddled presentation. This is not really a general history of skiing, but a biography of Alf Engen who was a local hero in Salt Lake City, Utah and ran the Ski School at Alta for years andyears.
