(AGD) is a manufacturer of paintball markers and equipment formerly based in Wheeling , IL . The company is now based in Cary , IL. They are best known for manufacturing the Automag paintball marker. Tom Kaye founded AGD in 1987. As one of the oldest paintball companies in existence, AGD has been responsible for several innovations now common on the paintball scene. The Automag Main article: Automag (paintball marker) Since its introduction in 1990, many variations of the original Automag have been put into production. They differ in valve type, stock accessories, and other features. 1990- 68 Automag 1991- Minimag 1992- Sydarm 1996- RT 2000- RT Pro 2000- Emag 2002- Xmag The Automag was one of AGD's first products, and initially, its most successful. The Automag holds the distinction of being the first semi-automatic marker to win a paintball tournament (Team Swarm at the 1991 International Masters). As a result of this early notoriety, AGD rocketed to the top of the paintball scene in the early 1990s, garnering a reputation as one of the leading manufacturers of paintball markers. Indeed, the automag, along with autocockers , was a common sight at major paintball tournaments. The Minimag's main feature was its longer, stylized mainbody. It also came stock with a vertical adapter and a shorter barrel. The valve is identical to the 68 Automag valve, but with different laser engraving. The Sydarm was originally developed for police training, featuring a horizontal magazine and integrated 12g adapter. Within a year of its introduction to the public, AGD restricted its sales of the sydarm to police only. Sydarms are now a co... ... Read more

Chapters: Paintball Equipment. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 256. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Paintball is an equipment intensive sport and in order to safely conduct a game, every player requires a marker with propellant to fire the paint, a mask to protect the eyes and face, paintballs, and a loader to hold them. To ensure safety off the playing field, a barrel sock or plug for the marker is also compulsory. Depending on type of play, additional equipment can include gloves, a pack designed to comfortably carry pods containing extra paintballs, and a squeegee or swab for cleaning out the barrel in case a paintball breaks. A paintball marker is the primary piece of equipment used in paintball to tag an opposing player. An expanding gas (usually carbon dioxide or high-pressure air) forces a paintball through the barrel at a muzzle velocity of approximately 300 ft/s (90m/s or approximately 205 mph). This velocity is sufficient for most paintballs to break upon impact at a distance, but not so fast as to cause tissue damage beyond mild bruising. Nearly every commercial field has, and strictly enforces, a rule limiting the muzzle velocity of a paintball at or below 300 ft/s. The most technologically advanced paintball marker is the electropneumatic. Here, the trigger activates an electronic microswitch (or more recently, a magnetic or optical sensor) and information is passed to a computer-controlled solenoid valve which releases the propellant to drive the bolt forward and fire the paintball. This microcontroller operation makes the marker operate very quickly, and allows for extremely high rates of fire. These markers are the most expensive and are generally used for tournament play where rates of fire can reach and exceed 30 balls per second. Sometimes in recreational settings a player will agree to play with a pistol to put themselves at a severe disadvantage to attempt to prove superior skill over an opponent.
