Product Description
The House and Senate must approve an identical version of a measure before it may be presented for the President's approval or veto. If the House and Senate approve differing versions of a measure, the differences must first be resolved. One way to do this is through an exchange of amendments between the houses. When the House or Senate considers an amendment of the other chamber, it does not yet formally disagree to that amendment. At this stage, the House or Senate may concur in the amendment, thus ending the process, or concur in the amendment with a further amendment of its own, proposing a new text to the other chamber. This book examines the procedures of amending, and in particular, the consideration of Senate Amendments by the House and House Amendments by the Senate. In addition, before a conference committee can convene, the two houses must complete the same three actions. These actions are discussed in this book, as well as the three steps that the Senate must take in arranging to send a bill to conference. ... Read more

Product Description
Special agent, Steve Randolf was sent to the small border station of Quigley to investigate a suspected increase in drug trafficking. His arrival was not welcomed by the local staff who resented his independent ways and abrasive nature. Steve met his first wetback on his very first night when he appropriated the station's desert cottage outpost. His meeting was eventful because the wetback, Jessica Martinez, not only bested him but subsequently became his entr¿e to the boys, Mingo and Mano. His acquaintance with Mingo flourished when he ushered him and his tomatoes, the product of choice in trade between the poor villagers of San Pascual and the richer anglos, across the border. However he soon discovered the trade in tomatoes was merely a cover for a more lucrative trade in marijuana. It was Randolph's determination to protect Mingo that led him to the final trip to San Pascual where he witnessed first hand that Jessica was not only able to take care of herself but also came close to losing all their lives to the real drug traffickers. Finally Randolph admits to himself that Jessica is more important to his than remaining in the service. Only then did he learn who she actually worked for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars another in a good kids series
my 11 yr old 5th gr daughter is a devoted Hank Zipzer fan; she had read thru #7 & wanted the next few in the series for her Dec bday/Christmas; these are quick easy reads for her, but very enjoyable; I even like when she reads out loud to me; they help her better understand her Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) & learning disabilities (LD) in a fun way; Henry Winkler turned his negative childhood experiences into a positive thing for his children & ours

5-0 out of 5 stars Zipzer hits back
What do you do when you discover you love something but most people do not understand it, or they think it is lame? Well if you're Hank Zipzer you try to hide it. It's the beginning of the 5th grade and Hank has joined the soccer team, but he's not very good, and does not really enjoy it. Then his grandfather takes him to a Ping-Pong Emporium, and not only does Hank like it, he can actually see some skill developing. But when he tries to feel out his friends on the subject of Ping-Pong they leave the impression it is lame, and the school bully McKelty mocks it the most. So he tries to hide his newfound love of the sport Ping-Pong.

Unfortunately he loves Ping-Pong so much he keeps skipping soccer practice to play; when his father finds out he gets a big lecture. His father lets him know he does not think Ping-pong is a real sport and he is disappointed in Hank for letting his soccer team down by not following through on his commitment.

The story comes to a head when at PS 87's Parade of Athletes, McKelty mocks a kindergarten kid about Ping-Pong and makes him cry. Little Sam Chin will try again if Hank will play with him, but to do so will be to admit his love for the sport. Can he overcome his fear of ridicule? Can he change his father's attitude about Ping-Pong? Can he rise above and help Sam? Read and find out why being a Ping-Pong wizard helps Hank with more than just developing hand-eye co-ordination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Henry Winkler does it again
Another excellent addition to the Hank Zipzer collection. Any child will be sure to relate to Hank's excitement of learning and succeeding at a new sport, as well as his apprehensiveness of telling his friends for fear of their reaction. Your child will be cheering for Hank all the way as you read of his finally telling his friends of his new talent, his getting to see that bully Nick McKelty put in his place, and then seeing Hank get his chance to show off his talent to his friends, teachers, and parents.Looking forward to book #10... ... Product Description
Alex Wellen is an excited, ambitious, and overwhelmed twenty-something law student trying to integrate into one of the most powerful and promise-filled cities in the world—New York. As he moves from graduating student to licensed lawyer—the second most important nine months he ever spent “gestating”—Alex fantasizes about the glitzy, high-powered lifestyle of a Manhattan attorney. He imagines hobnobbing with the elite, eating at the best restaurants, and being a guest at the most coveted social events—but in this city of overachievers, he is reminded every step of the way that he did not go to Harvard. Can he overcome the profession’s snobbery by wearing overpriced ties from Barneys, seat-filling at the VH1 fashion awards, cavorting with B-list celebrities, and throwing TriBeCa loft parties?

Is it enough for him to look and play the part?

Along the way, we meet his fellow sufferers in the dread-inducing bar exam cram courses, his girlfriends and roommate, the law firm recruiters interested in hiring him (and those who aren’t), and the new associates who work with him at a high-profile law firm, some of whom, the odds are, won’t pass the bar.

Savvy and entertaining, Wellen’s story is The Paper Chase meets Sex and the City—a career memoir for anyone who has discovered his or her life’s goal, yet must overcome tremendous obstacles to attain it.

Barman is an honest, revealing, and hilarious portrait of a lawyer as a young man. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone considering corporate law
In Barman, Temple Law graduate and aspiring lawyer Alex Wellen documents his time spent in young lawyer no man's land- between the time he graduates law school and passes the bar, becoming a "real" lawyer. Wellen's attempts to break into the elite law firm culture of New York City are relatively successful, at least compared with many of his classmates. He then faces the bar exam, for which he spends many panicked hours studying, and finally, the inevitable wait until exam scores are released, coupled with a stressful job he's not even sure if he will still have if he fails.

The protagonist is generally likable, although sometimes whiny and insecure. Non-lawyers or law students, however, might find him insufferable and think his concerns unfounded. For law students, however, this book is invaluable as a primer on what to expect in those crucial months after law school, as an overview of that multi-day torture that is the bar, and a look at big firm life in general. It also touches on contentious issues in the profession itself- like the relevance of the bar to actual practice or the elitism perpetuated by the US News law school rankings.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good to Skim
I was a little disappointed in this book, after having to skim through a lot of filler to find the good parts. To put it bluntly, Wellen is a nice guy who goes to a pretty good school and eventually passes the bar, but he is not successful portraying himself as entertaining, funny, glamorous, or particularly remarkable.Luckily, however, Barman contains some good information.Wellen is clear and descriptive about how he got a job in a great law firm, what he did to study for the bar, and what it was like working at a law firm while he waited for his test results.Along the way, he also demonstrates a method of interpreting legalese. If you are a prospective law student, this is a good book to check out from the library or read at the bookstore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Fun Read
I started this book at 12:30 AM. I finished it at 6 AM. I NEVER do that. Ever. If you're looking to get a glimpse of law school life, etc. this isn't the really the book for it. But if you want to read a great law-related book, definitely pick this up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could not put it down!!
Alex Wellen has captured all the madness, urgency and utter panic that envelops the life and times of anyone who is taking the bar.A great storyteller, Alex makes this an interesting, funny, and extremely engaging read.I could not put it down!I cannot remember a book that was this entertaining and enjoyable to me.For anyone who has ever been there, and more importantly, for anyone who never has, this is a great story you don't want to miss!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast Read
A friend recomended this so I bought it. I loved it! Really intersting and funny. I appreciated the unpolished perspective on a life I am pursuing. ... Read more
