The stats say that if you are going to be shot and killed, there is an 80% chance that it will be at less than 15 feet. So, knowing about Point shooting, and how to shoot using PS, could be a life saver for you.

- Has your handgun training set you up to be killed?
- What is the design flaw of the 1911 that could be fatal 4 you?
- Is Sight Shooting really used in Close Quarters gunfights?
- Did you know that the NRA supports the use of Point Shooting for self defense?
- IF YOU HAVE A HANDGUN FOR SELF DEFENSE, AIMED POINT SHOOTING OR P&S MAY BE YOUR KEY
TO SURVIVAL IN A CLOSE QUARTERS LIFE THREAT SITUATION.

P&S is a natural method of shooting that is fast, automatic, and accurate. And it can be used in good light or bad, and even when moving. It is simple, reliable, and easy to use. And it can be learned with little or no training.

Just what it is and how to use it, plus facts, data, pictures, and science based information that support its use, are detailed in this book.

There also is information on other Point Shooting methods such as Pistol Quick Kill, Rifle Quick Kill, the C.A.R. method of gunfighting, Target Focus Fighting, and the method used in the early 1900's by Fairbairn and Sykes that was also employed during WW II. The FBI papers on Handgun Wounding Factors and on the 10mm are a plus. (They are not available to the general public.)

All of the information flows from originators or their original papers, training documents, and studies and stats on the area of close quarters self defense.

Some of the material is controversial, as it presents the hard facts about what really happens. You will find no bull, bravado, hot air, or chest beating. Facts, science, and data rule.

The US Army recommends using Point Shooting at less than 15 feet, and at night. Also and according to the NYPD's study of thousands of police combat cases, most of them occur at less than 20 feet. Per the stats, if you are going to be shot and or killed, there is a 90% chance that it will happen at less than 15 feet.

So your knowing of and how to Point Shoot makes sense. But that will not happen by magic, You first must learn about it and how to use it.

The author believes that since AIMED Point Shooting or P&S, is the simplest of shooting methods, it is the most likely method to be employed successfully in them.

1-0 out of 5 stars not good
I have minimal shooting experiance and am in no way able to comment on the effectiveness of the information presented. The text itself is rather poor. Entire sections were reprinted several times - verbatum. The entire book could be reduced to a medium size artical and lose no information. I cannot recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad presentation of a bad idea
Writing/editing skill rates a zero. The idea of using the social finger to shoot at close range would confuse an experienced shooter and make it difficult to use aimed fire when the need arose. There are other types of point shooting for close encounters where factions of a second count.

Product Description
The official screenplay book tie-in to the hilarious slacker comedy from Universal Pictures by Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Freaks and Geeks) about a very unexpected pregnancy.

They say that opposites attract. For slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) and career girl Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), that'scertainly the case—at least for one intoxicated evening. Two months and several pregnancy tests later, Ben and Alison go through a hysterically funny, anxious, and heartwarming journey that leads to huge laughs.

Featuring the complete script, plus commentary by filmmaker Judd Apatow and actress Charlyne Yi (who plays Jodi in the movie), stills from the film, full cast and crew credits, and an article by Sarah Vance that appeared in Script magazine, this Newmarket Shooting Script® book will be irresistible to the growing legion of Judd Apatow fans. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Funny But Not The Shooting Script
Before buying the script, I was very interested in reading it because the film was heavily improvised. Unfortunately, the script isn't the original script, but a transcription of the film in script format. I was able to find a copy of the script floating around the net, though and it's completely different than this published version. This is fine for a fan of the film but is less interesting for people trying to study film making. ... Read more

Product Description
In the last decade, school shootings have decimated communities and terrified parents, teachers, and children in even the most "family friendly" American towns and suburbs. These tragedies appear to be the spontaneous acts of disconnected teens, but this important book argues that the roots of violence are deeply entwined in the communities themselves. Rampage challenges the "loner theory" of school violence and shows why so many adults and students miss the warning signs that could prevent it. ... Read more

I ordered the book on a Friday, by the middle of the coming week I started reading it. You can't ask for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good look at the other side
Very intelligent book, gives a detailed insight into the shooters minds and explains why and how to prevent. A must read for anyone with children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rampage:The Social Roots of School Shooting
This book, gives a new perspective on school shootings. The author creates a new theory behind the roots of these happenings. It gives the background, accounts of students, faculty, community officials, and community members perspectives to these shootings as well.Overall, it helps the reader to put school shootings into perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book stands alone...
Since 2004, there have been over 1,000 books written on bullying and interventions---most prompted by the rash of school shootings in the late 1990's.Newman's book stands alone for it's clairty and genuine contribution to understanding this complex issue.Having read many texts on this topic, this is by far the one I would recommend to my colleagues.

3-0 out of 5 stars A useful, if flawed, read
There is much to recommend this book.It provides a well-researched explanation for the ultimate causes of rampage school shootings. The book does an excellent job of refuting the myth that these tragedies have a simplistic explanation. The authors make a very compelling case that Columbine-style school shootings happen only when a tragic combination of necessary-but-not-sufficient factors are present.

Unfortunately, the book falters when it comes to providing practical strategies for the prevention of rampage school shootings. For example, the authors repeatedly acknowledge bullying and teasing as major causative factors that push some youths toward committing these tragic attacks. As the authors note, most of the shooters were bullied severely -- some almost to the point of torture.

Given that, one would have expected the book to devote a good amount of space to prevention of bullying in schools. Unfortunately, the book devotes less than two pages devoted to a discussion of ways to prevent bullying and other forms of harassment in schools.Teenage bullies, of course, are not stupid -- nearly all bullying takes place out of the view of teachers and school administrators.Much research has shown that teachers and administrators tend to dramatically underestimate the size of this problem, simply because they see only a small percentage of the harassment that actually occurs. The book neglects this point almost entirely, which is very unfortunate because there are a number of strategies that have been shown to be effective and that are fairly easy for school systems to implement.

Similarly, the book devotes much space to the widespread availability of guns as a factor, yet offers precious little in the way of suggestions for what to do to prevent desperately disturbed teenagers from gaining access to them.

Given that, I would strongly recommend the book for understanding the causes of these tragedies.Just don't expect much in the way of practical suggestions for prevention.

3-0 out of 5 stars Something is missing
After finding the book downplaying the significance of digital in an early chapter, I looked at the publication date of 2003. I was fearful it might be outdated, but found, for the most part, it wasn't. Mr. Zuckerman hit all of the areas that I thought would be important for someone like myself wondering if I should be trying to sell some of my photos. There seems to a lot of good information for a beginner like myself and I think most of his photographs are spectacular. However, I can't say that I feel any more confident about trying to sell my work after reading it. I feel something or things are missing from the book. Unfortunately, I don't know what they are. Of course, if I did, I'd most likely be trying to write the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photography book
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to know how to make money with your Photography. The Author gives some very good ideas that doesn't cost alot of money to get started.I would recommend this book very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great information
I am trying to start selling my photos and want to know the best way to get started.
This book has great information.

3-0 out of 5 stars More for the Professional than the Amateur
After taking several hundred photos on a recent trip to Mexico I decided that many of the shots were saleable. As I'd already shot my photos I now needed some information on selling them. That was the motivation for getting this title.

Zuckerman has some wonderful photos peppering this book. They are compelling and well reproduced. Put I really didn't find that it helped me understand how to sell my photos - especially as they're more geared toward the travel market. I just don't have an interest in setting up a display at an art fair, nor in making an internet site to sell my photos.

This is really more of a picture book, having more images than text. I admit I enjoy looking at the pictures, but for me it didn't take me where I wanted to go thus my 3 star rating. Mainly this book appears to be geared toward people who are much more into photography than I.

4-0 out of 5 stars Proven Techniques for Better Shotgunning
I see where it has been well over a year since anyone has done a review on this 1985 edition of Bruce Bowlen's well done book, so I decided to throw in my brief two cents worth. Before I begin, I should remind the reader of this review that the author did do a revision of his book and it is carried in inventory by Amazon.Since I have not seem Mr. Bowlen's revised edition, with its additional, updated material, I will confine my remarks to this the 1985 publication which still pops up on the used book market.

I found this book to be a very good beginner's book (and a nice refresher for the intermediate) for general upland game shooting. It is concise -- only about 77 pages long -- but nicely illustrated in simple black & white line drawings.I found chapter 4 on "Gun Fit" to be excellent and very informative.Bruce Bowlen tends to rely on "instinctive" shooting techniques where eye-hand coordination is very important and in which the shooter must trust in order to be successful. There is also an element of common sense to this book which appeals to me.Bowlen believes shooters must develop a clearly defined technique and that wing shooting is a skill that can be taught. This is in keeping with the English school of thought which I also feel makes good sense.

Mr. Bowlen is a former Director of the Orvis Shooting Schools where he taught wing-shooting techniques found in this book for twelve years. However, he is flexible in his advice and instructions taken into account the individual shooter.

I recommend this good to all serious upland shotgun shooters who wish to improve or polish their techniques.
A very well done piece by the experienced Bruce Bowlen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Read, Shotgunning Fundamentals;Top Drawer

"The Orvis Wing-Shooting Handbook"

One might be surprised that the store selling Fly-Fishing goods is also the producer of one of the really fine books on Shotgunning.

The author explains the INSTINCTIVE nature of Shotgunning first, then moves directly into the fundamentals of Stands,Postureand so on.

The book goes on to cover Gun FIT etc.

This is a book that one might easily overlook. There are other books available, but I find that they exhibit common faults which the Orvis book avoids.

For example, many books offerwell over6 to 8 chapters just on the subject of Shooting clays (Trap & Skeet) and allow their text to become bogged down into this single aspect of Shotgunning. That's all fine; but what if one primarily wishes to huntsmall game?

Other books commonly go into an overabundant detail, showing page after page of very beautiful and also very expensiveOver/Under and SideBySide Shotguns, and go into even further detail by showing different makes of the same. I find this ratherirrelevent, when all one wants to do first is learn to shoot, rather than to adopt an attitude of adoration toward a firearm.

Other books also waste many pageswith lovely color photos of hunters and the birds they have taken.Magazines show as much, and it hardly imparts necessary knowledge.

The Orvis Book however, goes directly into the funamentals of shooting and never loses perspective, which is why I sincerely recommend it.As a paperback,it is far cheaper than a hardback. When mine arrived, it was good to see that it was well, and I do mean VERY WELL illustrated.

"Shooting an Elephant" is Orwell's searing and painfully honest account of his experience as a police officer in imperial Burma; killing an escaped elephant in front of a crowd 'solely to avoid looking a fool'. The other masterly essays in this collection include classics such as "My Country Right or Left", "How the Poor Die" and "Such, Such were the Joys", his memoir of the horrors of public school, as well as discussions of Shakespeare, sleeping rough, boys' weeklies and a spirited defence of English cooking. Opinionated, uncompromising, provocative and hugely entertaining, all show Orwell's unique ability to get to the heart of any subject. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Go past the novels and dive into the other writing of George Orwell
Have just started Homage To Catalina as I needed to make sure I had read everything by GO. But I do so enjoy his other writing and the reviews from the news papers. Shooting the Elephant is a wonderful story and so captures the expectation of the British person (with no knowledge) of the Indian person and those in the middle, caught and mortified, but unable to change attitudes at that time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Orwell on politics and language
Of course I read this collection many years ago as most self-respecting writers of my generation have. After all, Orwell was a mentor to all of us as well as one of our heroes, and this collection includes not only the title piece, which is as good a personal experience essay as has ever been written, but also "Politics and the English Language," an essay on how to write and how not to write that is without parallel.

But as I perused the "Contents" page a forgotten chapter title caught my eye,"Confessions of a Book Reviewer"!I immediately turned to page 171.Oh, what a delight I beheld!Orwell begins the essay with, "In a cold but stuffy bed-sitting room littered with cigarette ends and half-empty cups of tea, a man in a moth-eaten dressing gown sits at a rickety table, trying to find room for his typewriter among the piles of dusty papers that surround it."After some further dreary detail, Orwell continues, "Needless to say this person is a writer. He might be a poet, a novelist, or a writer of film scripts or radio features, for all literary people are very much alike, but let us say that he is a book reviewer."

Of course Orwell is writing (with some scant distance) about Orwell. How candid he is and how well he eschews any glamour or romance in the self-portrait!And yet, there is something heroic about Orwell's depiction of the literary "hack" that is agreeable. He goes on to say as "the menacing finger of the clock" moves toward the reviewer's deadline, "suddenly he will snap into it.All the stale old phrases--'a book that no one should miss,' 'something memorable on every page.' 'of special value are the chapters dealing with, etc., etc.' will jump into their places like iron fillings obeying the magnet, and the review will end up at exactly the right length and with just about three minutes to go."

Orwell practiced a style that never called attention to itself (because the content was paramount), yet upon closer examination is characterized not only by precise diction and a rare clarity of expression but with the sort of metaphorical language that brings content to life.Note those "iron fillings"!

"Shooting an Elephant" begins with these famous words, "In Moulmein, in Lower Burma, I was hated by large numbers of people--the only time in my life that I have been important enough for this to happen to me."A few lines down he remarks, "I was young and ill-educated and I had had to think out my problems in the utter silence that is imposed on every Englishman in the East.I did not even know that the British Empire is dying, still less did I know that it is a great deal better than the younger empires that are going to supplant it...With one part of my mind I thought of the British Raj as an unbreakable tyranny...; with another part I thought that the greatest joy in the world would be to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest's guts.Feelings like these are the normal by-products of imperialism; ask any Anglo-Indian official."Change a few words and the sentiments he expresses might very well apply to someone from the United States in Iraq in the 21st century.

"Politics and the English Language" begins "Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it.Our civilization is decadent and our language--so the argument runs--must inevitably share in the general collapse."Ah, the lament of prescriptive linguists everywhere! What is wonderful about this essay is how specific Orwell is in first giving examples of writing that is, as he terms it, "a little below average" (there are five selected paragraphs); and second in referring back to these paragraphs as he demonstrates just what is wrong with that way of writing. He condemns in turn, "Dying metaphors," e.g., "ride roughshod over," "no axe to grind, etc."; "Operators or verbal false limbs," "militate against," "make contact with..."; "Pretentious diction," "epoch-making," "unforgettable..."; "Meaningless words...," e.g., "democracy," about which he notes, "not only is there no agreed definition, but the attempt to make one is resisted from all sides."

In the examples from last category I was struck again by how topical Orwell is now sixty-some years after this essay was written. He notes that "In certain kinds of writing, particularly in art criticism and literary criticism, it is normal to come across long passages which are almost completely lacking in meaning."Clearly he has been reading some of today's postmodern literature!

Some of the essays are no longer of much interest, I must admit--although I would say that the two mentioned prominently above are easily worth the purchase of the book.In particular the essay, "Books vs. Cigarettes" is largely irrelevant because of the price comparisons in the pounds and shillings of many years ago. However even here there is something worthwhile.Near the end of the essay Orwell notes that "the ordinary [English]man spends more on cigarettes than an Indian peasant has for his whole livelihood."

What is most striking about this book is again the clean, crisp, easy to read, but by no means in any way "dumbed down" prose.Orwell is the sort of writer that other writers greatly admire. His easy to read style is the result of hard work.Despite the decades that have gone by, these essays are for the most part still very much worth reading. If you have never read Orwell on language and politics, you are in for a special treat. ... Product Description
SHOOTING UNDER FIRE is the candid testimony and stunning photographs of the men and women who go into battle armed only with a camera to show warfare as it is and where it is. In this volume, ten leading combat photographers relate incidents of horror, humor, bravery, and daring in locations from Vietnam to Haiti, Ramallah to Chechnya, El Salvador to Sarajevo, the World Trade Center to Afghanistan. Here, in their own words, are their stories of life in the combat zone, together with many of the powerful images they risked their lives to obtain.

This historical and very human look at the pathos of war also reveals the moral and ethical issues that this elite corps of photographers face, and the decisions they must make in the chaos of conflict.

In addition to the works of these talented photographers are iconic images, from the American Civil War to the devastation of the World Trade Center, that tell the story of the development of combat photography and the profound changes in warfare itself that have occurred in the last century and a half. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Dare You
Peter Howe has collected firsthand accounts from ten of the world's leading war photographers in Shooting Under Fire: The World of the War Photographer. Riveting photographs are displayed with the stories, and the photos make the words spring to life as you read. Each story and related photos makes the reader a witness to unspeakable horrors, tragedies, and great courage.Every word engulfs all your senses in the war each photographer experienced. You feel as though you should be able to smell the fire, feel the bomb's shock-waves and hear the chilling screams of dying men.You are transported as you read your way through the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Palestine.

The images are diverse - beautiful, horrible, violent and quiet. They show you truths that heroic and patriotic images usually shown during wartime do not.The truth is that soldiers, civilians, and civilizations are destroyed and obliterated in war.Wars shatter minds, hearts, and bodies.War is ugly. The photos force you to look at its ugliness.

Through the combination of words and images, I began to understand a little bit of the constant terror and danger that these photographers lived with while covering their respective wars.I also got the sense that photographing war changed them. Each describes the strangeness caused by being in a war zone by choice, with a camera, and yet totally unable to halt violence of any kind. The soldiers are sent there and the civilians cannot usually leave. But the photographers choose to be there. They stay to document history.

Even if you never speak of these conflicts and their photographs again, the photographers will have done their jobs by changing you as well. After you read this book, the conflicts and atrocities will have been uncovered, revealed, to one more person. That is something the perpetrators of the horrors depicted desperately did not want to take place. So go ahead.Be a witness.I dare you.

Product Description
Once and FBI agent, Ella Clah is now a Special Investigator with the Navajo Police. She walks a tightrope between the Navajo and white worlds, fully accepted by neither but needed by both. Ella's brother, Clifford, a hataali or medicine man, says that her investigative skills are a gift from the spirits who guard and guide the Dineh, but Ella insists it's her FBI training that has honed her instincts.

Ella's life is about to change in ways she can barely begin to imagine--she is newly pregnant, and though she knows who the father is, she will not marry him. In Navajo society, her child will be of her clan, and will be accepted by her family, no matter what--but how can she stay a police officer, exposing herself and her unborn child to terrible danger day after day?

Given her current caseload, it's hard for Ella to put off making a final decision about her career. There's a near-riot at LabKote, a factory on the Reservation that produces high-quality vessels for medical labs. The Fierce Ones, an activist group of Navajo, are insisting that more native workers be hired by the firm--including a Navajo replacement for a manager recently found dead in his car, an apparent suicide. A sniper shoots at Ella as she drives to another crime scene--the home of State Senator James Yellowhair, who has been kidnapped.

Feuding between traditionalist and modernist elements in the Navajo nation heats up with sabotage, vandalism, and murder, spurred by a rise in birth defects among the Dineh's livestock and rustling of sheep and cattle. Ella's personal concerns mount when officers investigating a break-in at the health clinic discover that the records of several pregnant women--including Ella--are missing. Then one of the pregnant women is murdered....

Former FBI agent, now special investigator with the Navajo Police, EllaClah knows it's her police training, not the special gift of sensingshe's supposed to have inherited from her clan ancestors, that accountsfor her unease when troubling things begin happening on the reservation.Lab reports on pregnant women have been stolen from the health clinic, aNavajo guard at the LabKote factory has been murdered, and two nativeleaders have been kidnapped. The evidence points toward an activistIndian group known as the Fierce Ones, who have been protesting the dealthat leaders made with the medical supply company that's on their land.Tensions are running high between the traditionalists and the moderns, the natives who want a return to the old ways and those who embrace thewhite man's technology to increase their crop yields and improve their broodanimals. Not only is Ella stunned to learn that among the maskedFierce Ones is her beloved brother, a healer, but she's just discoveredshe's pregnant, by a tribal lawyer whose clan has been at odds with herown since the days of their ancestors.

This latest in the increasingly popular Ella Clah series (DeathWalker, Bad Medicine, Enemy Way) packs enough action into one slim novel to satisfy readers used to the more cerebral novels of Tony Hillerman and others writing crime fiction featuring Native American heroes. Like them, the Thurlos put a lot of Indian lore into their books and focus on characters who struggle to live in two cultures but are never fully embraced byeither.Ella Clah is a thoroughly modern career woman, but her loyaltyto her heritage runs strong and deep, making for a richly explicatedinterior life that is more fully realized by the Thurlos than many oftheir peers in the genre. If you haven't met Ella before, her newestadventure will have you scrambling for her previous ones. This deft, fast-paced read pulses with danger and excitement on every page.--Jane Adams ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best by the Thurlo team
Too much pregnancy.............
I have read most of the Ella Clah series, including some that come after this one. All have been excellent and read by both my husband and myself. I am only halfway through, but am thoroughly put off by the baby this, baby that, ad nauseum. I do not think I will suggest that my husband bother with this one. The Thurlo team are very good at providing lots of insight into the Navaho culture, but this is not one of their better efforts.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I enjoyed the first novels by the Thurlos but I have been very disappointed in the last two Ella Clah novels. I could not understand why they bothered me until I realized the Ella seems to get getting more Anglo in each novel. For as long as she has been back on the Rez and the types of cases she has been dealing with, i.e. skin walkers, I expected her to be more accepting of her heritage but she totally denies it even though her fetish seems to warn her when there is danger. A disappointing read. I doubt if I will buy Red Mesa.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
As a big fan of Tony Hillerman, I was extremely excited about new mysteries from the Four Corners region. I was extremely disappointed by this effort. The dialogue is poorly written, the storyline tedious, and, unlike Hillerman, many of the numerous subplots have no bearing on the conclusion. The ending lacks credulity, and the characters are thin and stereotypical. Buy this book only in paperback or as a special from a Mystery book club.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shooting Chant
This is the best book in the Ella series. It is sure nice to read a book set in the southwest that shows the real southwest. Some authors do not have a clue about New Mexico. The Thurlos have done excellent research. The book is an excellent example of this and is a great read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ella returns
I've been a fan of the Ella Clah novels from the beginning, and they just keep getting better and better. This one combines a complex mystery and Ella's personal problems.Even having a baby isn't entirely a personalmatter when you factor in the relationships among the Navajo clans and thelegendary past of Ella's family. The Thurlos do a terrific job of showingus the problems and conflicts of modern Navajo life.Lots of familiarcharacters return with Ella:her colleagues Justine, Big Ed and DoctorRoanhorse, her family Rose, Clifford and Lorretta, and her friends Kevinand Wilson.I'm already looking forward to the next adventure, to find outhow the realities of motherhood affect Ella's life and career. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A glimpse into the creative mind
Viewing the War of the Worlds script is a bit like getting into the creative artist's head.In this film -- so rich with symbolism -- it was a pleasure to look behind the curtain to see what exactly the author intended and how this was translated into film. The script has a few surprises that make reading it a delight. In the film, you get the feeling that there are several key scenes missing. The script has proved this feeling correct. Also, several key changes from the original script helped shape the mythological elements that Steven Spielberg appears to use, such as the change from using a chevy impala as the hero's car to the Ford Mustang.
But more importantly, reading the script allows you to appreciate just how rich the language is from the start, thick with humor and with human feeling.

5-0 out of 5 stars The shooting script to the ultimate war
The shooting script of WAR OF THE WORLDS based on H.G. Wells' classic science fiction tale will also attract specialty movie-going fans, with a screenplay by Josh Friedman and David Koepp paired with a centerfold of color photos from the film. Wells's novel was a radio show, a movie, and even a rock musical: the shooting script book includes its screenplay, an introduction by screenwriter David Koepp, and more.

This is a very good book, with many varied subjects related to the reconstruction of shooting scenes.Whilst not the in-depth work of Luke Haag, this will provide anyone in the forensic ballistics field with good, practical tips and knowledge related to most of the things you could anticipate at a scene. Many of the chapters have been printed in the AFTE Journal (Assoc of Firearms and Toolmark Examiners) and you can be confident that they have been through a peer review process prior to publication. This book also gives very good reviews of glass fracture mechanisms and reconstruction involving vehicles.

Product Description
Forensic scientists, law enforcement, and crime scene investigators are often tasked with reconstruction of events based on crime scene evidence, and the subsequent analysis of that evidence. The use and misuse of firearms to perpetrate crimes from theft to murder necessitates numerous invitations to reconstruct shooting incidents. The discharge of firearms and the behavior of projectiles create many forms of physical evidence that, through proper testing and interpretation by a skilled forensic scientist, can establish what did and what did not occur. This book is generated from the authors numerous years of conducting courses and seminars on the subject of shooting incident reconstruction. It seeks to thoroughly address matters from simple to complex in providing the reader an explanation of the factors surrounding ballistics, trajectory, and shooting scenes. The ultimate objectives of this unique book are to assist investigators, crime scene analysts, pathologists, ballistics experts, and lawyers to understand the terminology, science, and factors involved in reconstructing shooting incident events to solve forensic cases. The book will cover the full range of related topics including the range from which a firearm was discharged, the sequence of shots in a multiple discharge shooting incident, the position of a firearm at the moment of discharge, the position of a victim at the moment of impact, the probable flight path of a projectile, the manner by which a firearm was discharged and much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shooting Reconstruction
A great book - a must for anyone in the field of Forensic Ballistics or students studying a forensic based degree. There are several well-worn copies of this book at the section in which I work. This has proved to be an invaluable reference during my initial training and subsequent case work. Many of the techniques detailed have been utilised to great affect at a shooting scene and back in the lab, especially range determination and the use of chemicals (e.g. DTO, Griess Test etc.)The explanations and general overview of the chemistry in this particular section is very useful.I have also found the chapters on bullet penetration/perforation and deflection/ricochet against various targets extremely useful and something that I regularly revisit.

5-0 out of 5 stars A highly recommended reading for anyone on this field!
I met the author at the annual training seminar of the Association of Firearm and Toolmark examiners. I attended the authors shooting incident reconstruction class at Gunsights training facility in Paulding Arizona In 2004.The author is truly at the top of his field and his book in invaluable for work in this field. This book is a highly recommend.

Product Description
Loaded with extras, the official screenplay book tie-in to the uproarious American hit comedy from Fox Searchlight—a family on the verge of a breakdown.

In 2000, screenwriter Michael Arndt had no credits, no agents, no publishing history when he took a year off to write "a salable script" that got him an agent and a deal fourteen months later, and, five years after that, one of the big hits of 2006. Exclusive to this book are the complete shooting script, Arndt's introduction and scene notes about his filmmaking experience, and a humorous essay "How to Write a Sundance Hit in Nine Easy Steps." Also included are the full credits and a 12-page color photo section.

Brazenly satirical yet deeply human, Little Miss Sunshine introduces the Hoovers, whose trip from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach, California, to a pre-pubescent beauty pageant results not only in comic mayhem but in death, transformation, and a moving look at the surprising rewards of being losers in a winning-crazed culture. A runaway hit at the Sundance Film Festival, where it played to standing ovations, the film strikes a nerve with everyone who's ever been awestruck by how their muddled families seem to make it after all.

The Hoover family members are played by Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Abigail Breslin, Paul Dano, and Alan Arkin. When they pile into their rusted-out VW bus and head west on a three-day tragicomic journey to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant, the entire misfit family will change in ways they could never imagine. 12-page color photo insert. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun
I purchased this book for one of my college classes. It is an excellent script. There is a lot of tasteful humor, yet very touching moments. One of the main concepts of the script - about family differences - will appeal to everyone. This isn't a story where people will go "that's absurd" or "these characters are really boring". To prove this, here is briefly what some of the major characters are like:
Richard - obsessed with winners and losers. Not very successful. An annoyance to the family at many times - and hilarious to the readers.
Olive - cute, young girl who has large aspirations. unconfident in herself.
Dwayne - determined, interesting. Often, he represents what the readers are thinking.
The grandfather is somewhat crazy with his habits, Sheryl is very preoccupied, and Frank is very depressed.
Most readers can identify with at least one of these characters.

When all of them clash, expect some strong language, many hysterical moments, and some sweet family conversations.

Also, the tips the writer includes are very informative and helpful. There is also a lot of explanation of how and why certain scenes were changed in the movie.
With an excellent format, and being easy to read (even with 6 main characters), this script is perfect for many film students.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun, educational read
Little Miss Sunshine is one of very few movies that literally left me with my mouth hanging open as I left the theater, exclaiming about how well written and produced it was. Then I attended a screenwritnig lecture by Michael Arndt, and later had the opportunity to attend a screening of the movie where he answered questions.Fascinating guy who really understands his craft.

The Shooting Script is a great read, and Michael lets us peak behind the script at sections that were changed in the actual shooting, and several times comments on how wise the directors were when they cut out scenes that are in the script. He also reveals places where ad libs added to the spontaneity of the finished product. The book is fun to read, not just because it's a great script, but because you'll learn about the craft of screenwriting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Screenplay
I love the movie Little Miss Sunshine, and am an aspiring screenwriter and director, so I decided to buy the screenplay. I watched the movie, read the screenplay, and did both at the same time. The screenplay is slightly different than the movie because scenes got cut and actors changed the lines which is common, so it was a little difficult to follow which did not take away from the experience at all. He wrote notes on the scenes about the changes like why a scene was cut or a line added. The only reason I did not give it four stars is at the end of the screenplay is a list of nine steps on how to write a sundance hit. I took the Robert McKee Story seminar, and some of his suggestions contradicts Michael Arndt's which simply proves that different techniques work for different people. However, being the McKee purist that I am, I'm going to follow his suggestions as opposed to Michael's. Even though I don't necessarily recommend that you follow his steps, it is an interesting look into the process of the success of LMS and how it got from an idea to a screenplay to a film. Which is definitely a plus. All in all, I definitely recommend the screenplay to any fan of the movie even if just to read it. Oh! and the pictures are really cool too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Script that Could
This is a marvelous script by Michael Arndt. The story is small and it reaches so many. The characters are very well developed. It's just a joy to read such a great script!

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful

This is a delightful script. The shared goal of all the characters provides the reader with a warmth and investment in the characters individual journeys. It's so funny and touching. I also appreciated the scripts editing processthat Arndt provides for us at the end of the screenplay. It is a valuable learning tool for those who are interested in writing screenplays. ... This fine script presentation includes not just the complete shooting script, but extensive discussion with the film's director Danny Boyle, color photos, and complete cast credits and details. Perfect for film libraries.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMONG THE BEST SCRIPTS OF 2008
This is a review of the film's script, not the film itself. Apart from Frost/Nixon and Doubt, this is easily among the most gripping scripts of the year, and unlike Revolutionary Road or Doubt, it is quite a chromatic departure from the novel that inspired it. Kudos to Simon Beaufoy's endeavor. It's evident that much of the this film's breakneck sizzle came from its writing, and it only gets more layered when you read the screenplay.

The Newmarket series has become a bit like the book version of the "DVD extras". These scripts include interesting tidbits ranging from introductions by people involved to color stills from the sets. This should explain why the script is triple the price of, say, the original novel. It's a worthy purchase for anyone who's looking at this page to begin with.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm speechless. One of the most heartfelt and touching movie that I have watched. Just brilliant.
Slumdog Millionaire sets a new bar for a great movie/story.Although the underlying plot is typical (boy meet girl, boy lost girl, boy search for girl, boy find girl, boy lost girl again, boy meet girl again, then either happy or sad ending), and "flashback" type of movie has been done a lot before (Memento, Usual Suspect etc), the overall experience watching Slumdog Millionaire is very fresh. While the movie seems to move very fast, literally (ala Bourne Identity), it explains every details that are important (especially to answer all the questions that exists in the movie). Except one question which I don't think is explained well, on how he is able to get in the Millionaire show. My guess is that because he know what is the optimal way to get through the call center (to call when the host say the word "If").

There are a lot of things happening in the movie (besides the typical plot that I mentioned above, but I don't want to mention the detail as I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't watch the movie).

This movie will keep you at the edge of your seat, with its fast moving, extreme situations (the slum, and the life as beggars), and intriguing questions. Slumdog Millionaire will keep you guessing (for answers, both on the answer of the question asked in the "Millionaire" shows, as well as the question on how he knows the answer). And with all the tragedy and poor condition/quality of life, these people are still able to find some humor (and friendship and love) which helps them to keep going. The acting are also very good and very convincing.

This movie/story should win many awards (and very well deserved too)
The soundtrack of this movie is also amazing (mainly M.I.A. and A.R. Rahman). O.. Saya, Jai Ho, and 2 versions of Paper Planes.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Thomas Books!
I care for an almost 2.5 year old and she absolutely adores this book! The illustrations are great...storyline a more interesting than the typical dry Thomas books and it is a nice size.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two boys' review: Thomas is sooo tired, a fun bedtime story
On fitful nights, when my boys are having trouble getting to sleep, I read them this story. Thomas can't fall asleep and awakens another train, who sends him off in search of shooting star just to get some quiet. Thomas' search results in meeting several other friends but no shooting star. Finally, exhausted, Thomas returns to the train shed and falls asleep.

The message is subtle enough to share without belaboring the point. The illustrations are very nice and I like both the pacing and the length of the story (as one other reviewer said, the book is the perfect length for a bedtime story).

We own a number of Thomas books (check my other reviews). This is one of the better stories we've come across.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just a fun story for the little ones.
This is well illustrated and nicely written. It about a 10 minute read.It is great for bedtime. My boys loved it.The story is interesting and easy to understand. The hardcover art is also well done and is indicative of the overall quality of illustration.

4-0 out of 5 stars A delightful book
I purchased this book for my two year old granddaughter who has fallen 'in love' with the Thomas trains. She likes the brightness of the pages and the story as grandma reads it. I would recommend it to add to one's library for children's books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome overall.
Tommy Stubbs's illustrations are beautiful and friendly-looking; the book is of great quality, with a cloth binding and nice paper. The details (like a visit from an owl) are cool and fun to talk about with my almost-two-year-old.My only problem with this book is that Thomas sneaks out past his bedtime without telling anyone but a sleepy [and irresponsible] Gordon.I'm not saying kids will imitate Thomas, necessarily, but if my son had insomnia I'd rather he read a book than sneaked out of the house!Of course, it wouldn't be easy for a train to read a book, so I don't know what I'm suggesting for the storyline in Thomas and the Shooting Star, but it does bother me just a little that Thomas slips out on his own.
My son really enjoys reading the book, though, and he'll ask us to read it several times in the same day. It's definitely a fun story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Genre for a Redford Movie
If Robert Redford was going to make a wing-shooting movie in the genre of A River Runs Through It, Bagger Vance and the Natural, it would be based on Robert Churchill. No one in wing shooting is more the equal of Bobby Jones in golf, Charles Ritz in fly-fishing or Babe Ruth in baseball than Robert Churchill.

All of these people modestly taught their sports as a natural result of instinct. There have been changes in equipment in all areas since the 1920s and 1930s, but there has been no change in fundamental techniques.

Finally, if you read anything in this book more than once, be sure it is Chapter 11 on the Rules of Shooting.

Always find out if you are "standing on ceremony" for the day. In sophisticated company it is again like golf. It matters far less how well you shoot than how well you behave.Hunting is a universal pleasure. Regardless of social class, shooters are true gentlemen.

There is always variation in the local rules, but these are the universals in Churchill's eyes:

1. Safety is always first.

2. Keep your gun broken.

3. Never ever shoot over your hunting partners.

4. Always shoot pest birds and rodents for your host.

5. Get close to your game for a clean, instant kill.

6. Never shoot a grounded bird.

7. Don't be a whiner! If you miss take your medicine.

8. Be a real sport. Operate with style, be a pleasure to be with.

9. Always keep the trigger finger to the side of the gun.

The Churchill methods is based on proper fit, mount and shoot. The shooter prepares the gun in a proper ready position for the game, sees the target with both eyes, then raises the gun to a solid shoulder/cheek mounted posture -- firing occurs at the instant the gun is mounted.

Aiming is discouraged in the Churchill technique. At wing-shooting schools, serious skeet shooters, on average, perform more poorly than novice shooters coming to the intuitive method for the first time.

When you go to practice, go to a sporting clay facility such as the Orvis Schools in Manchester, VT, Sandanonna, NY, West End in London, or Purdy in London. There are also fine schools near Paris, Madrid and Lisbon. In Spain or Portugal live birds are the most common practice targets.

Read this book from cover to cover then sign up for a wing-shooting school and spend a day or two on sporting clay courses. Then reread the book at night.

Good shooting.
