A must-have book
At $12.98 this book is a real gift, I can't think of better spent money. The photos are beautiful and exciting, the book looks very professional. You will find help on many different topics, from the first moves to competitive snowboarding, from how to get off a lift to hot to wax and sharpen your stick. I have bought many snowboarding books but none of them surprised me as much as "Let it Rip." If on your budget there is place for only one book, then there is no doubt that this is the right one. The price would be excellent if it was a softcover book, instead you get a hardcover, I don't think you can find a better deal.

Still great after all these years
This is THE book of resorts in North America. Stop looking now and buy this book! I recieved this book as a Christmas present in 1999. Although the cover is missing, the pages are stained and torn I love it. I still get it out every time I plan a snowboard trip. It should be required reading for anyone who is planning a snowboard trip. This book has taken me all over Vermont, Quebec, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. An updated version would be VERY nice, alot changes at these places in 7 years.

Snowboard Guide: North America
After 7 years of snowboarding, mostly in the rockies and the sierras, I have yet to find a more organized and informative snowboarding guide. This book breaks down the different mountainsbased on location(Pacific, Mountain West, East Coast, Alaska and Canada). And it breaks them down in terms of freeride, carving, freestyle(park riding)and backcountry. It also tells a good bit about the town lodging, restuarants and things to do.
It gives detail history of snow amounts and all the statistics of the mountain.
Oh yeh, if you are a visual person this is the book. Lots of pictures. It has a mini-map of all resorts slopes.

the skiers book of trail maps
I thought that this was a terrific book! Most of the maps are clear and concise but not all. I would like to see a little better quality throughout. I would imangine there is a reason that not all the maps are clear. I was disappointed that the book is a 1997 version. There have been lots of improvements thoughtout the hills and I would love to see them. I would definately buy this book again. Just let me know when the most current version is available. My sore [rear] proves you can not learn boarding from a book
You can't learn snowboarding from a book, and I have the sore [rear] to prove it. I am one to try and learn almost everything from a book, be it oil painting, politics or golf. But [,] let me tell you, I studied this book front to back for a few days prior to hitting the slopes, and even practiced in my living room. It does not help. I am a reasonably fit 30-something and I can tell you that the only way to learn snowboarding is by getting on a board, getting the feel of it, taking plenty of lessons and spending plenty of time on the bunny slopes. Whereas skiing is a bit more technical and possibly could be learned through reading a book, boarding is much more feel and you'd best be advised to not kid yourself. As far as the book, it reads more like a snowboarding glossary than a how to book. Bottom line: save the money and buy some ben-gay.

Not for the beginning snowboarder
I bought this book after taking one lesson and had to put it down because it is so poorly written. They throw out all these terms and never define them. The book is based from the German Ski Instructors Association, and a lot gets lost in the translation. I've now been snowboarding 8 times this year, and the book is still of no help. Excellent summary of top ski resorts, where to stay & go
The book has good overall background on each state's skiing, then goes into detail on each of the resorts it rates as the best in the US. Though I would have liked more than 30 places to be covered (Breckenridge, Kirkwood, Grand Targhee and some other very good resorts are missing) the areas that are covered have good detail about the background and history of the resort, the skiing (recommended trails are broken out by ability level) where to stay and where to dine. It is an invaluable reference when going to these places for the first time, and I have used it at many of these resorts to find the good trails and good bars and restaurants. It is very readable, and to the point, and generally matches what you'd hear from locals and people who've been there.
