This book has everything except what I need
Don't buy this book if you want to learn the technique of snowboarding. It mostly has info for those who would like to know everything about snowboarding except how to do it. Out of 150 pages, only 1 is devoted to instruction: "keep your knees bent, look where you are going, and listen to your instructor". Well, how do you ride the darn thing? What's Rippin'?
Keegan Bishop is a terrific skier, but the real question is, can he snowboard? He is about to find out and find out fast in this Rippin' adventure. He finds a wire stretched across two trees and in his direct ski path. He witnesses people putting some snowboards into his team mate's van...they belong to someone else. He over hears them planning to meet at night at the top of the ski run. He gets to the top of the ski run and he has already been spotted. Epic! Lots of useful info on rippin rides
I live in Seattle, WA and this book contains tons of useful info on all the resorts within a day or two drive. I particularly like the write-up on Mt. Baker and the yearly legendary Banked Slalom Event. George Dobis, owner of Mt. Baker Snowboard Shop, is definitely a must visit if ever in the town of Glacier, WA (17 miles from the Baker ski area). A bloody how-to book
The book was a little bloody in its descriptions. The story was set in the snowy mountains. The main characters in the book were Sherman Poppen, Bob Webber, and Dimitrije Milovich. My favorite character was Sherman Poppen because she was good at snowboarding and she did tricks too. My favorite part of the book was when they told you what you need to snowboard. I would recommend this book to my friends maybe they will try it once. However, I will only tell them if they are 13 years old or older because if they are younger they might get hurt.

Solid book for snowboarding newbies
After a fairly aggravating first-time try at snowboarding last winter (lousy snow, mediocre instruction, ... rental equipment), I got this book, among several others. Ms. Older lays out the basics of getting started in this sport in clear, jargon-free language, covering areas such as proper clothing to wear, boots, bindings, the right board, beginning exercises and then actual riding technique. After reading this book, I have some hope that even a middle-aged guy like me, with a somewhat beat-up body, can eventually make it down a mountain in one piece. ... Read more

Only 50% of what you are looking for... 2.5 stars
I bought this hoping to get some real strategy advice but it only delivers 50% of the time. The main selling point for some may be that they show where all the snowmen are. However, they are only shown on a large picture of the whole run without specific details of how to reach them. For me, I wanted some expert advice on beating the pros. The book doesn't deliver here. Rather than giving actual advice on most runs, they simply point out the obvious. Things like "On this run you'll have to pull off an 18,000 trick, followed by a 26,500, then another 18,000." OK, I can see that just by playing the game - Where's the stategy? What tricks will give me the most points? The book does give more tips when it comes to the score challenge and the media challenge, but only 50% of the time. There is also a breakdown of equipment stats (which is good) and all the stats of the pro riders in the game (who cares?). My advice would be to try and beat the game without this book. They should have put more useful info (strategy) into it. You should buy this if you are an Amped junkie and want to know all there is to possibly know (equipment stats, snowmen locations) but can handle the strategy on your own. ... Read more

Extremely in-depth reference to snowboarding
I received this book as a birthday present. After browsing the table of contents you start to realize its depth. It's broken down into three major sections: racing, freeriding, and freestyle.

The book goes over the mechanics, but also heavily focuses on mental aspect of snowboarding. It explains methods on how to visualize and execute. It even recommends external activities, like Yoga, to bridge the gap between body and mind.

I felt the best value of this book were the sections on overcoming and controlling fear after a serious injury. Which, unfortunately, I know a lot about. It also stresses the seriousness of properly rehabilitating after injury/surgery.

This book is for people serious about snowboarding. It probably isn't suited for 11 year old children. After reading some sections, I almost felt like I need further explanation from a psychologist to completely understand what I was reading.

Overall, great book.
