This book came quickly and was in good shape. The binding was a bit worn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sky High Wonderful Story
I purchase this book to read to my children. I also bought 6 more to give to friends to read to their children. I appreciate a book for children that has an endearing story complimented by beautiful artwork.Nancy Willard wrote a nostalgic tale about a mother and a daughter and a perplexed father. It's Mom's birthday. She doesn't want a fuss "no presents please" but wait, maybe there is something. She remembers something from her childhood, but no, that was too long ago to be able to reproduce. Her daughter goes on a hunt to find that special present from her mother's childhood memory while Dad goes off to the mall. It's a happy story with a delightful ending, sure to please.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Thoughtful and gentle..."
I am an elementary school teacher and one of my students - an extremely thoughtful and insightful 7 year-old - gave me an angelfood cake (with this book) for an end-of-the-year gift. She told me to be careful when I eat thecake and to look for the surprise. I was finishing up my room cleaning andhad a piece of the cake, but unfortunately, the rest of the cake went badin the heat. I looked through the rest of the cake to find a thimble.Puzzled, I read the book and cried through the last part of it. For anyonewho is wanting to show good wishes, love, luck, modern angels watching overyou or just a TERRIBLY wonderful and sentimental gesture towardssomeone...Read this book, bake an angelfood cake with a thimble in it andgive book and cake as a gift. My thimble is in my china cabinet next to myfine crystal and Hummell figurines - it has that much heartfelt value. Ifyou are "angel phobic" or concerned about religious undertones -it really has none. No preaching involved, just simply a FEEL GOODstory. There's no rhyme or reason to the illustrations which are detailed, subtle, yet bright and the storyline is quite cleaver and unpredictable. But it is the meaning woven into the words and storyline that is honest, loving and genuine. One to treasure for generations!

5-0 out of 5 stars Special Birthday Surprise
When I was nine, my favorite teacher gave me this book to read.It was incredibly imaginative and it put a smile to my face on even the worst of days. For my mother's birthday, i used the exact recipe and directions forthe The High Rise Glorious Skittle Skat Roarious Sky Pie Angel Food Cake tobake her the very best birthday surprise ever!Read it today!

5-0 out of 5 stars High rise children's literature that transcends age
What a perfect marriage of words and pictures! This is the story of a girl who wants to give her mother a birthday gift more precious than gold: something that blends love, nostalgia and magic with good cake. She isaided (and abetted) in this venture by her goofy, unwitting uncle, and atrio of the most endearing angels ever illustrated.(Check out how theoldest angel's socks don't match!)The finely drawn pictures aredelightfully evocative and reward close inspection. The whole book soarswith whimsy, glory, and love. A keepsake. ... Read more

Product Description
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.
This collection reveals the history of English common law and Empire law in a vastly changing world of British expansion. Dominating the legal field is the Commentaries of the Law of England by Sir William Blackstone, which first appeared in 1765. Reference works such as almanacs and catalogues continue to educate us by revealing the day-to-day workings of society.

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Finnish skittles aka Karelian skittles, outdoor skittles or kyykkä is a centuries old game of Karelian origin. The aim in Finnish skittles is to throw wooden skittle bats at skittles, trying to remove them from the play square using as few throws as possible. Skittles can be played with four-man teams, in pairs or as an individual game. In 1894, a Finnish author and photographer I. K. Inha wrote in his diaries concerning his journey to White Karelia, that the game he had discovered was almost extinct and it was only played in remote villages. In Karelia around lake Ladoga people knew about the game in Suojarvi and Salmi, but even there it was only played in remote villages. The game was also known in Karelian Isthmus and Ingria areas. After the kinship wars the people that had migrated into Finland played skittles during their Karelian summer festivals. In 1951 there was a movement to revitalise Finnish skittles with the approval of President Urho Kekkonen. A set of rules and a scoring system were created, taking into account the traditional Karelian skittles terms and rules. ... Read more
