1-0 out of 5 stars Dumb Girl Book
This book is so sappy I almost didn't finish it.I really thought it would be a book about training sled dogs...but NO SOAP.

5-0 out of 5 stars A hot love story set in the cold north
Trails of the Heart gives you more than just a love story between a man and a woman, you are also given the chance to fall in love with nature via the love the hero and heroine share for the raw untamed wilderness of the north and the love they share for their sled dogs. It's always a bonus when you read a good book to also learn something.Trails of the Heart is a treat because I learned a great deal about the trials and joys of racing a team of dogs in the wilderness of Alaska and Canada, something I'm sure I'll never do in real life.I had a front row seat into the exciting world of mushing a world totally foreign to me and I'm sure most other people.

The love story between Kelly and Tyler was touching and as a woman, the hero Tyler, certainly made my heart beat a little faster.Kelly was a heroine I could identify with, tough enough to race a team of sled dogs yet vulnerable when the right man comes along.

Trails of the Heart gives you everything you want in a romance novel, modern yet old-fashioned.I heartily recommend this charming book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My One and Only...
As a child in elementary school, I was plagued with what would later be called Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.) I could not read anything longer then a magazine article. I tried and tried to read books, but by the time I turned to page 2, my mind had skipped to thinking about yesterdays Gilligan Island episode, save one...

This book captured my imagination and I couldn't put it down. Now at age 42, "Race Against Death" remains the one and only book that I have ever read, and what a great one it is!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
Very informative. Well written with beautiful illustrations. I am looking forward to a dogsledding in Ely this winter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Great inormation for adults and kids a like. We loved this book as a family and find that all of us pick it up to read and look at. Great inspiration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, beautiful --However, not perfect
This book is great, it has beautiful pictures and info. However, I did find a few things that were not to great.First of all, when describing the Alaskan Malamute, the illustration had a pure black dog...Malamutes are NEVER pure black, they can be all white but that's the only exception for all one color, the only labeled pic of malamutes are an all white and all black, no markings! They also had very vague info on them.Malamute's real name is ALASKAN MALAMUTE, no where in the book did it say ALASKAN in front of malamute, well howcome you put SIBERIAN and ALASKAN in front of the husky? And two, I got a pup this August and I'm going to start training, so I read the chapter called "How to train Sled Dogs" it had absolutely nothing about training them except for, start training as pups!Blank spot! On what do you train them? All in all though, this was a beautiful book, I just use it for the pictures now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Information wrapped inside a beautifully illustrated book
"Born to Pull" was recommended to me by the owner of the kennel where our family would be going for our first mushing experience.Though aimed at upper elementary kids, the amount of information is amazing.Theillustrations enhance the content beautifully; particularly stunning is apainting of a team pulling under the Northern Lights.

Most enjoyableare the stories interspersed throughout; stories from well-known musherssuch as Gary Paulsen and Jamie Nelson.Stories of dogs that decided to runthe wrong way at the end of a race, and of dogs who found the way home in araging storm.

Reading this book did not guarantee that I would notwipe out on the sled, but when I did, I knew just what the snow hook was!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for kids only!
I found this book in the kids' section while looking for Christmas presents.Knew nothing about it, and sled dogs are not my dog-of-choice, but was immediately compelled to buy it even tho it cost more than I'dplanned.Amazingly full of good information, understanding of dogs andpulling, but there was a twinkle in the eye of the author, too.Imaginethe runway team surrounding the ice-fisherman and eating all hiscatch!

The illustrations too are extraordinary.Such obvious awarenessof the inner workings of dogs is unusual. The expressions of each dog arewonderful.

Highest recommendation for sled-dog enthusiast or any dogperson, young or old. ... Read more
