5-0 out of 5 stars Nifty
Pinewood Derby has been an American tradition for Cub Scouts since it was originated in 1953. And, another American tradition is for fathers to find ways to make their sons' cars run as quickly as possible and win races! This short book is a set of detailed instructions on how to make a Pinewood Derby car that will run as quickly as possible.

This nifty book has information on the physics of Pinewood Derby racing, shaping the car, weight placement, axle and tire adjustment, and a lot more. Overall, I found this to be an interesting book that is sure to be of great value to all Pinewood Derby racers, and those who love them.

By the way, each Pinewood Derby book out there has a different recommended car design. The car recommended in this book is short and aerodynamic, with the weight placed at the balance point.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Pinewood Derby Experience
"All I can say is WOW....Not having any Pinewood Derby experience at all, Wednesday of last week I ordered your How To Win A Pinewood Derby. Keep in mind this was Wednesday and the race was Saturday. I read all pages and did exactly what the booklet said to do. Come Saturday we were ready to go and very excited to say the least...long story short, We annihilated our local pack (20 cars). We won easily the district for the wolf pack and took 2 overall out of roughly 300 cars. This booklet is a must for the serious Cub Scout racer. THANK YOU!!!!" 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and entertaining
Ok, I admit this review is based on the feedback of my 7 and 8 year old boys as they would not let go of the book long enough so I could read it myself. Obviously, this book has captivated the attention of my kids. They generally love to read but at this age they would not finish a book if it weren't truly awesome.
It is clearly a highly entertaining and fun to read book and we will be on the lookout for more sequels to the adventures of Brian, Mason and Billy. We hope Kolin Jones will continue to write more books for his young readership.

5-0 out of 5 stars The bad boys club

A Great Read !!!!!! A book that teaches values. Keep the kids wondering what is next? A book with a twist. Can't wait for the second sequel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I felt as if I knew the characters personally. I think we all knew kids like Billy and his friends Mason and Brian in our own childhood. All the details, from the clubhouse, to the big bullies, to the crazy dream adventures, the good deed by Billy, even the little love note from the girl to Brian. So it was easy to relate to the story and root for these kids to find the missing report.
Overall easy reading for 3rd graders and older, and I think would be a great addition to any class reading curriculum. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Soapbox Racer Fun!
This is a winner right from the frontispiece, which shows a wonderfully complex map of Busytown, author Richard Scarry's home for imagination and fun. Huckle and Lowly (looks like a cat and a turtle, I believe) are BUSY making their homemade soapbox derby style racer for the big Busytown race.Sally (another cat) offers for help are declined: "Poor Sally. Nobody wants her help."However, after the boys crash the racer, Sally, with the help of Mr. Fixit (a fox with a tow truck) repairs it with an old wheel, some wooden boards, an old hospital bed, and a trumpet! The pictures are bright and cheerful and printed on quality paper. There are usually two pictures per page, which adds to the action (especially once the race begins!).A fun book also that encourages kids to include others in their play.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good first-time racers guide.
An excellent book aimed at the first-time racer. Richard goes through the common problems associated with putting your first race vehicle onto the road/track. Insights into some of the more esoteric tricks used by the professionals will amuse young and old alike. ... Read more
