5-0 out of 5 stars From a Special Olympics Athlete
I got this book off of half.com.I would recommend this book for all the Special Ed Schools to have. I am sending out letters hoping to talk to Schools in are County about getting more Athletes. Are County has mostly older Athletes. This is one book I would show them.

Special Olympics Indiana Tippecanoe County.

5-0 out of 5 stars the special olympics experience
I am a Special Olympian and have been for 17 years. This book is totally amazing. I recommend this book to anyone with a mental or physical challenge. The families with a challenged person in their family will totally be in awe after they read this book. I am also a global messenger for Special Olympics. I have gained self-esteem because of Special Olympics. Whatever I do in Special Olympics, I know my family is behind me 100%.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Experience
This book is one of the most enjoying books I have had the priviledge of reading.I am saying this as a parent whose son Chad Kocabinski is one of the featured athletes. He is the young man talked about in the equestrian events section.

I and my wife will have this book forever as a living memorial to our son who passed away from cancer on the 23rd of December 2000.The way the author did her interviews and the way the book has been written and it's content is something that makes us to be very proud. We had it on display at the funeral home as a tribute to not only him, but to Special Olympics as a whole.

As a matter of fact, we would like to get 8 more copies of this book to place in each one of the schools in our community in his memory. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a special Athlete
I am a nurse at the hospital where Adam works and I am here to tell you that Adam is not just a special athlete, he is a very special person. Adam comes and visits me everyday while I have lunch and I count this as a blessing. He is one of the most kind hearted and caring people that I know and I am proud to be able to call him my friend. The world would be a much greater place if we could all be a little more like Adam.

5-0 out of 5 stars The challenges that Adam faces and the decisions he makes demonstrate his courage
Written by Dale Flynn and illustrated by Emilio Soltero, A Very Special Athlete is the story of Adam, a young athlete running in his first big race at the Special Olympics. The challenges that Adam faces and the decisions he makes demonstrate his courage. This colorful picturebook story was inspired by the Special Olympics competitions that now take place in over 150 countries and involve millions of people each year. The author Dale Flynn was also writing from the perspective of being the parent of a son who was a Special Olympian. A Very Special Athlete is an honest portrayal of what it is like to participate in the Special Olympics and recommended for inclusion in both school and community library collections for young readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Written and Beautiful Art
This children's book is very well written and the illustrations are really well done with an incredible likness to the real life adam pictured in the back of the book. Most importantly the lesson in the story is important for children of all ages as well as adults. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more
