5-0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Warfare Guide
This book is one of the best and easiest to understand books on spiritual warfare on the market. It breaks things down in a way that is both comprehensive and interesting.I recommend it so highly that I bought two copies - one for myself and one for a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy
These books are excellent. I recommend both of these books to everyone for spiritual warfare.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to comprehend, scripurally based
This is the companion book to the first "Strongman's His Name, What's His Game?" by the Robesons. This book elaborates on points made in the first book and answers questions that may have come up. It is not demoninationally based but thoroughly based on the Word of God. It is not necessary to have read the first book to benefit from this book. I do recommend both books especially for Believers new to the subject. Clearly written, effective illustrations and examples. I read the first book as a young teen and am still gleaning wisdom from it today (A long time later). "Strongman's His Name II" is a welcome addition to my library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dealing with Demon stronholds
I found this book very informative about dealing with the strongholds that demons will use to bind us and keep us from the glory of God.I truly found things out that I didn't know about being bound by the demon strongholds.I recommend this book for anyone searching for answers and releasing yourself from strongholds that you may not be aware that you are bound with.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Very Practical and Excellent"
This is by far the best book on spiritual warfare that I have ever read. Most books on spiritual warfare are very technical. Not this one! very readable and easy to understand. I will definitely be recommending this book to others!

5-0 out of 5 stars balanced teaching
This is probably the best teaching on spiritual warfare I've read.It expounds on the their other book, "Strong Man's His Name, What's His Game.I highly recommend that you to get both. The first gives you the understanding of the biblical principles at work and the latter, the practical steps on how to "do" spiritual warfare. The Robeson's have an anointing to teach on this subject with a non-complicated, biblically-sound approach, which leaves the reader with a response of "Okay, I get it." ... Book 3 in the Phoenix Rising series. A hard-bitten mercenary who's had a gutful of mud and blood and death, Fortitude McLaren joins the Ten Nations Fair as a roustabout. Tough, cold and competent, he's shocked and angered by his hunger for Griff, a circus acrobat. Brought up in the bigoted society of the Straight Church, Fort regards manlove with casual contempt. Not for him. Never for him. Athletic, cocky and single-minded about what he wants, Griff sets about getting it. Fort fights with everything in him, but Griff affects him like no one else. It's not just his strong, supple body. Fort is irresistibly drawn by the friendship the other man offers so freely. Fort may have found a friend, but the cruel memories of his childhood are the greatest enemy of all. When a job for Jan the Aetherii puts Griff in danger, Fort discovers what's really at risk - everything he is and everything he's ever believed in. To save Griff's life and preserve his own sanity, Fort must not only fight the battle in his soul, he must win it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Strongman
Fort McLaren, once mercenary and now circus roustabout, falls prey to feelings he's not comfortable with. Circus acrobat Griff is responsible for causing that discomfort.

While Griff himself has not in general lusted after men, there is just something about Fort that sets him aflame. His scent, personality, and responses drive Griff to test the water with the big man. While Fort definitely feels something for Griff, his upbringing wars in his mind versus what his body is craving. But when they end up in battle and injuries and memory loss occur, things become clear, but then what?

Strongman was an incredible story about two men who found their soul mate in another man. Fort is gruff and scary, or tries to be at least. Griff is a bundle of energy and comfortable in his skin. It's very easy to fall in love with each man even though they are so very different. I absolutely love it when big tough men fall prey to love and Denise Rossetti makes these men fall hard. A great storyline any M/M fan is bound to love.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pressing on home
This is quite a frank story of a young man, who rose by hard work to the top place on the podium, for lifting weights. He had a few strikes against him, an alcoholic father for one, which worked pain into the family, and, he had a withered club foot, and crossed eyes.

As one reviewer says, Hepburn seems to have wanted the story to be told 'warts and all'.Thusly, it seems, Hepburn is trying to tell us that we need find what natural gift we have, and what we dream and desire to achieve, and that while we may have to carry on on our own, that by hard work, we can achieve wonderful things. He wanted his personal struggles and darkness told, to demonstrate that these may be faced, albeit with help, and that even if it takes years, these sort of struggles of the soul may be overcome.Faith in God and in Jesus, which gives a sense of purpose is vital in this, but so too is perseverance.Or, as a pastor used to say "By the grace of God and a fast outfield, we shall prevail."We must admit that we need help.

I was a bit put off at first by all of the details of the struggle that this man had, but looking back, it seems that the book was written as he wanted it to be, and I think this is quite a good thing.

Hepburn replaced John Davis, who had been undefeated in international competition for many years, at the top of the podium in the1953 world championship. He had to pay his own way to the world championship too, and he didn't have a coach with him.

In a writing of his found elsewhere, he says that he sought to follow the pattern of pressing that John Davis used, Hepburn thought that Davis was the best presser he ever saw.He had one more triumph in his young weightlifting life, in terms of medals won, which was at the British Commonwealth Games.Besides this, he set many world records in the military press, my goodness there were press records that he set.

This book has a good deal of information about training, at the end it has Doug Hepburn's own course. He is encouraging to us, seeks to give us a longer range view of training for strength, from someone who was there, he gives us a view.Very sensitive and resourcefulhuman being, and he wanted to help people, that was one thing that he wanted best to do.

Hepburn liked to use the barbell curl. For one thing, it helped him in the press, he felt, in that when he got the bar cleaned to his shoulder, he found that if his bicep were thick, that it gave him additional base for some oomph in his press. He also held the bar a bit farther out, as he felt that he used the pectorals in givinghim more of a push or boost from resting on his shoulders. He liked to bench press as an assisting exercise.Interesting thoughts from one of the great pressers of all time, and who did this without the help of any chemicals.Milk and squats were part of his training, and bananas.
Well, may he enjoy the fact tha he was of a good deal of help to those who came after him. Thanks Doug Hepburn.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Sad Life of A Strongman
This auto biography was dictated to T. Thurston who did a nice job writing it down. It is a good read for any strength aficionado. However, upon completion, I felt profoundly sad for the man. Doug Hepburn, although a world champion at one point, never attained anywhere near his potential. He was never an Olympic medalist, never attained an education or a profession, failed to reach any modest financial success, never had a normal personal relationship with either of his divorced parents or with a woman, never married, never had kids. He suffered depression and self destructive tendencies most of his life and fought alcoholism.
Doug attained only two titles: gold in the 1953 World Weightlifting Championships in Stockholmand gold in the 1954 British Empire Games in Doug's hometown of Vancouver. In Stockholm he set a new world total in the heavyweight class and therefore was considered "the worlds strongest man". From there it was pretty much downhill, although he did eventually stop drinking.
Doug was a figure to admire due to the fact that he was born with a clubbed foot yet still managed to become a great lifter and athlete. However, I completed the book with a profound feeling of sadness.

5-0 out of 5 stars An truly outstanding biography
I picked up this book out of nostalgia, as I was once a serious weightlifter, and was born in Doug's hometown of Vancouver. I remember the impact he made when he won the '54 Olympics. When I read the book, I found it revealed a man with a magnificent will to win against all odds; a man who knew how to make demands on himself. The self destructive impulses that Hepburn reveals are latent in all of us, and particularly those who attempt to excel. Hepburn confronted these fully, and as a result achieved maturity and self knowledge. He is a man of great strength and great humility, and that combination is rare. Like so many other of the reviewers, once started, I couldn't put the book down. Best wishes Doug (wherever you are) and thanks for the book, Tom!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book is a must read for anyone in the iron game. The programs spelled out in this book alone make it worth the price. In addition, this book does a wonderful job at showing the human side of Doug Hepburn and his struggles. Not only is this book entertaining, it is inspiring as well. The author does a superb job at bringing Doug Hepburn to life. It was nice, for once, to read a book about a man who prevailed in his quest to be the strongest without the use of steroids, straps, suits, etc...I wish this book had been available to me years ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars strongman
One of the most depressing, sad books I have ever read. Hepburn was to be admired for his feats of strength, but saddened at his personal life. He was waiting for someone or something to either show him what to do with his life,or actually provide for him. What a waste. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Green is good- and fabulous!
After reading this book, you'll be ready to take your green practice to an entirely new level- beautifully.

We all know we have to recycle cans and bottles and that plastic bags are destroying the planet, but what about building? Is it insanely expensive to build a green home? What if I'm remodeling; will it cost me more? Add value to my house? Be impossible to find green products? The author answers all of these questions and more, in a guide that's both practical and fabulous. From reusing parts of old houses to installing new technology like solar panels, and making "greener" choices throughout, it's all here, it's all easy, and it benefits everyone. (And for the record, the answers to the above questions are no, no, yes, and no.)

This isn't simply a large list of ways to green your home, however; The Sustainable Home features 30 case studies of sustainably built homes from around the world, which demonstrates both that it can be done, and that it can be done beautifully. Illustrations, photos and plans throughout the book provide extra info and insight; as well as a resource for construction materials, wall coverings, kitchens, fabrics, flooring, furniture and more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Victory over strongholds and strongmen!
This is an intensely practical, very valuable guide to spiritual warfare. The Lord Jesus Christ has given us the power to overcome all the attacks of the enemy!Demolishing strongholds means you have to repent of your sins (or overcome the curse against you) which allowed access to your life and then go after the strongman. But many make the mistake of not recognizing that there are other spirits of bondage connected with the strongman which make him even stronger.(This book gives detailed lists of these associated with common strongmen.)The author directs the reader to bind the strongman, cast out the other spirts, THEN cast out the strongman. She includes prayers to use, stories of victorious battles, and her own personal experience.Even if you don't believe in demon deliverance, think of this book as a way of using truth encounters to confront strongholds and what kinds of strongholds tend to happen together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Tiki Lovers
I bought this book for my husbands' birthday. We are really into surf culture and I thought this would be a perfect addition to the collection. This is a perfect coffee table book; it has lots of great, varied pictures, and it gives you a bit of written information on different types and times of tiki! My husband loves it, and so do I.

Great words, great artwork and photography, great lay-out and presentation, great information and reference. Clearly produced by people with a genuine love and knowledge of their work. Well done Jay Strongman and Holden Westland. Buy it now while you can. Now...bring on volume two, boys. O.K?

5-0 out of 5 stars tiki mug
A must have for the person that loves tiki mugs. Facts for types of mugs, makers of mugs. It has interviews with the designers, the companys that make them. I love all the photos of mugs, tiki bars, menus, all things tiki. The only bad thing about this book is wanting to find all the mugs you have never seen before. It really has a lot of info on mugs and tiki collecting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book.
The main focus of this book is the artwork of the current wave of tiki mug artists that have
sprouted in response to the resurgence of tiki culture. It is a must have read and full of
pictures to gawk at while jotting down your collector want list.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful overview of a cult artifact
Tiki mugs are a 1950s classic, a product of the pseudo-South Seas subculture which was part of the American scene. This book looks at some great examples of the mugs which would be available at Tiki bars which sprung up in cities and towns across the U.S. While not a catalog of Tiki mugs, this book contains photos of some of the best examples of mugs, which were loosely-based on idols from polynesia and developed into the sublime and the silly. The book discusses Tiki culture and some of the artists who are now designing mugs to satisfy a small but devoted audience. ... Read more

Product Description
FINALIST for the 2002 Lambda Literary Award in Photography/Visual Arts!

Assembled from a world-class collection of rare vintage photographs spanning the 1880s to the early 1950s, Strongman showcases images of the famous and the forgotten. Herculean specimens abound: Tony Sansone (The Most Beautiful Man in America), Eugene Sandow (The Strongest Man in the World), and fitness mogul Jack Lalanne all bulk in, testing the elasticity of their posing garb. Alongside these professional competitors are equally fascinating period snapshots that provide a candid peak at anonymous muscular men aspiring to the icon. The photos in Strongman depict a wide variety of scenarios: There are wrestlers locked in gladiatorial combat, acrobats linked in human pyramids, and bronzed beach buddies rough-housing in the sand. Strongman is a photographic celebration of the evolving ideal of the male form. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Magnificent!!
Awesome collection of photos. I started collecting the same a few years ago and am SO glad I found this book b4 it got "rare"... because it will get "rare".
The pics are HIGH quality on good, heavy paper. The construction is strong and the jacket is nice, as well.
The aquisition was very smooth with quick delivery. I'm very pleased with this purchase ;-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but I was hoping for more.
This book was interesting, but I was hoping for more pictures from the 1800s.The muscle men presented had a good selection of body building pioneers and famous names. The pictures of everyday guys strutting themselves, while providing a time capsule of men feeling proud about their bodies, didn't offer anything outstanding in the way of physical development. If you are looking for links in the chain of what would later become beefcake photos and pioneering body builders, you'd like this book.If you are looking for a definitive history with more pictures of Sandow, Atlas, Joe Weider, and Steve Reeves you might be dissapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Never Seen Before"
I was really, really impressed with this book about Strongman covering the period from the 1880's to the 1950's.The reason I was so impressed with these vintage photos of strongman and those aspiring to be strongman is that a lot of these classic photos have not been seen before. This is a fascinating selection of rare cabinet cards and studio portraits by some of the most famous photographers of that time period. You have your Herculean types such as Tony Sansone (my all time favorite), Eugene Sandow, Jack Lalanne, and many others. But what's really fascinating is all the amateur photos & snapshots of anonymous muscular young men that Robert has brought together for us in his book.

There is a very personal foreword by Jules Bacon, Mr. America 1943, who was one of the most handsome & muscular young men of his time. The introduction by Robert Mainardi is a fascinating account of why he started collecting & how his obsession began as a young man.

Any collector of physique photography should not miss having this volume in their collection. It's a must.Council Oak Books has done a beautiful job in printing this book, from the design of the book to the clear photo reproductions. If you like this book be sure and buy Council Oak Books first vintage photo book called "Sailor."Another beautiful book for your enjoyment and collection. Both are highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than you'd think
Mainardi's picture book is more than the vintage beefcake photos I'd expected. His introductory essay is a wonderful personal reflection on the power these images had on him as aboy, shaping both his erotic and aesthetic sensibilities for the rest of his life.In that context, the photos become a kind of study in the masculine ideal; any gay man -- and perhaps many straight men and women -- can find in them the sparks to light up distant sense memories and the dim images we buried in our dreams as children: everything from real body builders to guys like our fathers, uncles and brothers, hamming it up in front of a camera on the beach. A really great little book.

5-0 out of 5 stars FASCINATING, TOUCHING TRIBUTE TO A TIME PAST
With this book, Robert Mainardi has produced a marvelous and valuable addition to the history of photography and bodybuilding. This slim (but fully packed, nonetheless) volume contains many priceless physique photographs from the late 19th century to the 1950s-60s.Every page astonishes with the variety and quality of the collection that Mainardi has put together over many years. Some photographs are humorous (to our 21st century minds), some seriously dramatic and beautiful, but all are worth more than one look. One or two of the photos are bitter-sweet in the way they capture an earlier, more innocent and trusting time.Mainardi has written an essay, an introduction of sorts, that lays the foundation for why he collects, as well as some background on the field and people in question.I can't recommend this book srongly enough; it is great to own, and great to give as a gift to someone with an interest in photography, bodybuilding or history. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books
This is one of the most entertaining books I have ever read. There are many different reasons why a person could like this book (I myself am very into physical culture and old time strongmen) but if you have any interest in the movie industry and how it was back in the day you will probably like this book. To me it was just mind blowing reading about a time when movie directors considered stuntmen expendable as long as the director got the shot he wanted. Bonomo was one of the top stuntmen in his time and a lot of the situations he got himself into could easily have been made into one of the many cliffhangers that he starred in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charles Atlas, LOOK OUT!!
This self-published (Bonomo Studios)autobiography is a wonderful feast for the eyes, in both narrative and crisp (some ridiculously retouched)black and white photos of Bonomo's career as and actor stuntman. Eclipsed by Charles Atlas and other "Strongmen" of the day, Bonomo's book let's us know that you don't need sand kicked in your face to have a colorful and interesting life.Every chapter is started with a artful title card similar to that of the 3 stooges, looney toons, or Batman: The animated series. Lots of larger-than-life "Stan Lee" hype on almost every page!"352 Thrilling Pages!""and over 750 action photos!" C'mon! Buy it!I sure as heck ain't selling MY copy! No my brother, you gonna have to get your OWN copy. ... Read more
