A classic & still an invaluable resource for Ozark paddlers!
The venerable "blue book" of Ozark whitewater streams and paddling is as good a read as ever, and the information is still some of the best you'll find anywhere on the topic.This is *the* book that I always have in my shuttle vehicle.I have a nearly unrecognizable copy that has gone on a few too many adventures, and I bought a new second edition copy a while back and am in the process of wearing it out too.With the number of new paddlers in the area growing in leaps and bounds, this text provides an essential starting point for those wanting to explore the exciting whitewater of Arkansas and Missouri.Highly recommended!

Perfect water
Up front:I know Jeff Wallach -- as a golfer and golf writer. So, it was with some surprise that I learned he had written a book about river rafting.When I started reading it I was certain there was no way Jeffcould sustain an entire book on one summer's experience on the river.Buthe did, and admirably.This is a book for anyone interested in naturewriting at its best.Not only are there dozens of vignettes and insightsinto what it's like to go on a river tour by dory, but Wallach gives aclear historical perspective of the wilderness and its endangerment aswell.Would I read this book again?You bet. ... One Star Above Worthless
In the preface, the author states this about his book: "It is themost complete and authoritative source of information on whitewater raftingand float trips in the United States and Canada."What a joke!I canhonestly say that this is the LEAST authoritative source of ratfinginformation that I have yet seen (and I own a ton of rafting books).

What's wrong with this book?Well, let's assume you want to learn moreabout rafting rivers.You're probably going to want to know how to get tothe put-ins and takeouts. Sorry, you're not going to find that informationhere.You're also probably going to want the recommended river flows forsafe and enjoyable rafting, as well as graphs of average river flow for thedifferent months of the year.Forget it...this author doesn't even giveyou a phone number to call to get this information.How about river logsshowing you how far the major rapids are apart, as well as suggestions onhow to run them?Nope, none of that either.

About the only person whocould use this book is someone who simply wants someone else (i.e., aprofessional guide or outfitter) to take him or her down the river.Somuch for the the "most complete and authoritative source ofinformation on whitewater rafting." ... Read more

This Book is the Bible for Kayaking in Idaho
The only book you should even consider buying for paddling Idaho. The only negative is that grant seems to under estimate some of the shuttles. Watch out for that.
