5-0 out of 5 stars You cannot learn from a book - like, duh!
This book is old school. It was first published almost 20 years ago. If you have no tradition of the austin goh lineage then OBVIOUSLY you are not going to be able to learn the system.

What is in there are qi cultivation techniques, conditioning techniques, and strength training techniques.

If you have been shown how to do the basics then the information in this book will help you advance BUT ONLY IF YOU PRACTICE THEM CORRECTLY DAILY (for at least a year or two).

If you have never experienced real qi power then you will have no idea what I am on about.

On cannot expect to break blocks in under 5 years of training.

To the reviewer who returned the book - 30 years and you cannot get anything from austin goh??

You, Sir, are a vulgar charlatan.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book was a huge disappointment.
The author implies that "secret" techniques will be described. They must be so secret that one cannot discern what they are. There is very little text. The book has many pictures of stances, which don't look very different from each other. In fact it seems that the author is in the same stances with different clothes on.Perhaps this is a very esoteric book which is designed for a very limited audience.I have 30 years of martial arts experience, and found the book to be of no use.I returned it to Amazon.

3-0 out of 5 stars This book shows techniques not shown in other books.
The book is not meant as an instructional.I would not reccomend it to anyone that knows very little about Wing chun. Austin goh demonstrates the secret sand bag form, and various chi demonstrations like bending bars with his neck, one finger press ups, and chopstick throwing into plywood. As the title suggests, it shows the breaking power of wing chun.It has some breathing exersises, and many breaking demonstrations in the back. A circular cane chi sao exersise is also included. Generally, I would recommend this book for anyone after they have purchased a few other first and second level books. As with all of the wing chun conditioning techniques, I would exersise extreme caution. The proper Iron palm linement, Dit da jow with Iron palm herbs added (Never dit da jow ALONE), should be used at all times. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wing Chun Kung Fu a labor of love.
Randy Williams is an extremely dedicated Kung Fu practitioner. He has studied with top notch teachers and, seemingly, recorded ever word they spoke. His writing is very thorough and technical. This series, printed in Singapore, is definitely a labor of love. Oversized, beautiful inside and out: many excellent photographs; even the outside is classy with shiny black covers, gold lettering and glossy pages. Very detailed descriptions of Wing Chun principles and movements. Many examples from life and also classic Wing Chun Chinese phrases. Williams knows his technique and is also something of a theoretician. The important thing is that he WANTS to preserve the art correctly and this leads the book to contain tons of information. In my opinion this series is a real collector's item. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars path TO wing chun
As the book title suggests, it is the Path To Wing Chun, not the Path Through Wing Chun.It is excellent for the beginner, with all the information and background to the art that you need to know. All the techniques are true to Wing Chun, and not the modified versions that you find in the better known books (W.Cheung). I give it top marks because it is a modest book and is not trying to sell itself by pretending to teach you Wing Chun if you buy it and read it a couple of times a week.

4-0 out of 5 stars Student of Samuel Kwok, United Kingdom
This book is both good and bad.Sifu Kwok is an excellent Wing Chun expert and a knowledge of the art which surpasses a lot of more famous Wing Chun artists. The book does explain the first form Sil Lim Tao, in good enough depth, and demonstrates basic techniques well enough. It isn't however, a bible of Wing Chun, nor does it have any advanced techniques in it.....What this book is good for though, is the history of wing chun and background to the martial art. It contains information on all the students of Yip Man, as well as those whom Sifu Kwok has taught and are now instructors all over the world. It also contains a lot of information on where to get information if you want to be taught Wing Chun. It also contains a lot of photographs of which aren't really found anywhere else of Yip Man and his two sons.....If you want a lot of background on the art and also want to be able to practice the first form, then buy it.Sifu Kwok teaches Wing Chun in the Original style that Yip Man taught it, with none of the useless modifications that are found in other instructors books.

1-0 out of 5 stars not very interesting at all
When I bought this book I was expecting something much better, unfortunately I was very disappointed, it contains few techniques and isnot very clear with poor descriptions, do not buy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The path to wing chun First form only
Covers the first form in wing chun in great detail with lots of pictures. Ideal for someone who wants to practice at home. But that's as fare as it goes. 5 out of 5 for the for the first form and a full list of allmovements in the firstform. The book should be called The path to wingchun First form only. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Practicioners of both JKD and Wing Chun
Me, myself being a practicioner of both JKD and Wing Chun Kung Fu found this book to be interesting. It shows you how Bruce Lee used his Wing Chun knowledge and skill to be the basis of Jeet Kune Do.This book also shows how both Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do would handle the same situations.

In my personal opinion Jeet Kune Do is much more simpler, direct and practical in terms of hand-to-hand combat, but where Jeet Kune Do is rooted from should not be overlooked.

2-0 out of 5 stars REALLY CMON NOW LETS GET REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO you really think that this stuff is going to work? especially the trapping? so many people love trapping but when then try it in sparring it doesnt work.the lin lop sau,the bong lop sau,the same hand tan to lop sau-cmon now none of that works against anyone who doesnt leave their hand out there after they throw a punch! this may have been how people fought hundreds if not a thousand years ago but it certainly isnt practical now! if you want to spend lots of your precious time learning an art that most of it you cant use in sparring or in the street then so be it.but like bruce said "man {or for that matter any person man or woman} is MORE IMPORTANTthan any art or system" even applies to jkd and wing chun-not the other way around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars nothing new and not a lot of meat
There isn't anything new to be found in this text that hasn't been covered more thoroughly in other texts. The topics covered seemed glossed over without any meat or substance.Skip this one for more up to date books.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you like examples without explanation...
This book makes a decent reference guide, or a hypothetical fight comparison, but there isn't much that can be personally gained from it.It is divided into five chapters: stances, hands, kicks, tactics, and selfdefense. There is a woefully inadequate into paragraph for each chapter, then the rest is filled with "what-if?" situation counters.Thisbook does a poor job of explaining the REASONS Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Doare different and simply shows you what ted wong and william cheung woulddo in an assortment of fighting situations. Also, it is important to notethat Ted Wong practices JUN FAN, not JKD.Some of his counters arehopelessly outdated. For example, an attacker stabs with knife [angle 7]and he does an INSIDE CRESCENT KICK to deflect it.Is he the Flash?Thematerial in this book might be okay to play around with a friend, but I'drather apply the money towards paying an instructor:you cannot learn JKD(even Jun Fan) or Wing Chun from a book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Book to basic
This book was very disapointing, and misleading. Like for example wing chun has no high kicks butyou will see one in this book. enough said ... Read more

Product Description
130+ pages, softbound, clear drawings. This is a little series of books by students of Yip Man. Small but nicely produced these books abound with excellent and clear illustrations. On top of that they are en face in English/Chinese and the Chinese is mostly traditional. A good reference series. Lam Wing Kit is a popular and well known writer of books on Kung Fu. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars From Wing Chun's homeland
If you know Wing Chun Kung Fu you already known about Chum Kiu. That's the form where footwork and waist turning are introduced. They say this is the form about "dissolving the opponent's power". Well, this is a nice reference book version in a small size. Sort of augmented cheat sheet. Very clean illustrations and English/Chinese explanations of the movements. You probably couldn't learn from this book (that's pretty hard anyway) but it's a compact nicely done reference that probably will be hard to find some day. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but really good applications
I've studied Wing Chun for years, and do agree that this CD strays in some places from the traditional approach. However, I also caution that many Wing Chun practitioners are so tradition / lineage oriented that they miss some really great approaches to the style out of shear ignorance. They think if it is different than they do it, it must be wrong. Well, not necessarily so. As far as this CD goes, it may not be the best instructional tool for a beginner, but I think it should accompany anyone's collection simply because the applications presented for the moves of the Sil Lum Tao form are VERY ADVANCED! You don't often see such advanced applications even in advanced Wing Chun classes, because most people don't know a lot of the ones shown here. Anyway, enough said. I'd buy it if you study or want to study wing Chun.

1-0 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVABLE
What can I say...the title says it all!!! I can not believe how horrible this CD is. It is a good idea that goes terribly wrong. The person on this CD appears to have absolutely no concept of wing chun kung fu. Save your money!!!! The only thing I regret is that I can't give it a LOWER rating.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst
Please...Please...Please...Don't waste your money. This CD-Rom has nothing to do with wing chun. Terrible.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
I was appalled at the poor quality and poor instruction on this cd! All it shows is a few different techniques from several angles. Unfortunately the technique execution is horrible and completely goes against most principles of wing chun. The presenter obviously has some backround in shoalin kung fu, but next to none in wing chun. If you want some good instruction, I suggest any video from Emin Boztepe and the American Wing Tsun Organization.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite Impressive
I found both the interface and the content VERY informative and helpful. I have studied Wing Chun under a Master, and found the form work on the CD to be excellent, as well as the applications of the techniques. If you are currently studying, this CD can only be of help. If you have studied in the past, it will serve as an excellent reminder of techniques you might be rusty on, as well as showing a few moves you might not be familiar with. If you are looking for a way to learn about Wing Chun for the first time, this CD will be an excellent introduction and exploration of a wonderful system of martial arts. ... Read more
