5-0 out of 5 stars A good twist
This expansion is an excellent addition to any DMs gaming arsenal. The ability to place a variety of dragons is not only a welcome change of pace, to an already excellent game, but it added a new found excitement for the players involved.(The idea alone put my group in a frenzy of new ideas, and role-playing brainstorms.)The books are easy to understand and the charts have all the information in an easy to reference set up that smooths over game play for a DM unfamiliar with the new adjustments for playing dragons characters.
This box set also contains the rules for playing dragon-kin, and those bonded to dragons to add another dimension to the game. (i.e. dragon riders, ect.)
It also adds a new difficulty to DMs who are feeling stagnant. (It happens to the best of us.)The new challenge of creating a campaign for a party of even the youngest dragons, proves to require a new twist to even the simplest of game ideas.
I love this campaign setting and suggest it to any DM looking for a new challenge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Description...true to their word.
I was alittle sceptical but am very pleased. The description was right on the mark..in fact the package was in PERFECT shape.
Thank you very much!

3-0 out of 5 stars it could use a little help
the idea is great, you get to play a dragon, I'm sure every Dragon lover nearly wet themselves over the whole ordeal, But look at it closly, the boxed set really isn't all that special, the only thing it had that was notincluded or hinted at in another TSR product was the listings of Dragonproficiancies, I dont think that was to much to get excited over , Iactually feel that I got ripped of by buying it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but extremely under developed.
This campaign setting allows player characters to create PC dragons!A very interesting concept, and it fills out dragon society very well. However the problem comes when you actually want to run a campaign without dragons, with the bonded Elf, Gnome, or Dwarven PCs.The lands of the campaign setting are barely even talked about.Like why do the elves, dwarves, and gnomes just sit by and let dragons rule.Do demi-humans worship the gods in "Monster Mythology" or do they worship dragons gods. How does the society work with Dragons in command. You know REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF LIKE THAT, this campaign setting leaves out.So if you want to REALLY flesh out a skeleton of a campaign, this is the setting for you.If not, get something like "Forgotten Realms" or "Dark Sun World."

5-0 out of 5 stars If you love dragons than this is the book for you.
This has to be one of the best campain settings out there. It allows you to play a dragon without upsetting the game play!It provides detailed information on dragon psyiology and the different types of dragons.Best of all it leaves alot of information for you to define and shape to your own liking. This is definently a must for any role-player! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The FRP system for any situation
I have been playing Rolemaster system for about 17 years. It is the game system that I prefer as hands down the best (I started out on D&D). Iron Crown (ICE) has since updated the game system to what they call Rolemaster Standard System or Rolemaster Fantasy Roleplaying, but the group that I game with still uses the materials from the Rolemaster Second Edition (1994). What makes it such a great game system? 1) Because you can account for any game situation. The manuever charts alone add the dimension of allowing a PC to attempt anything. It's up to the gamemaster to assign a level of difficulty and any other mod's he sees fit to the situation. 2) Character development is comprehensive. The ability to create unique characters with skills of their choosing is both fun and rewarding. 3) The Arms/Combat and Spell user systems add variety to the gameplay. Yes, keeping track of some things can be tedious if you let them. Our group made some slight modifications to the combat system (our house rules) that quickened the gameplay, but at the same time did not take anything away from what the system has to offer. As a base system, Rolemaster can't be beat. My experience is with the 2nd Edition. If you take the time to get the hang of this system (I also recommend that you get the Rolemaster Companions for numerous other professions, spell lists, optional rules, etc.), you will be rewarded with a rich and detailed playing environment.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's been a really long time...
Since I've used this game system but I still own all of the stuff against the day I might want to play it again.

The basic concept of the game is simple, each character has 10 stats such as strength, intuition, etc. that are rated 1-100 and a bunch of skills rated from -25 to 150+.

There is lots of classes, most of which are magic-users of some variety. There's lots of overlap between the classes so there are at least 3 different ways to make any character archtype you'd like.Fun for replayability.

The combat system sounds simple and has some neat critical hits and fumbles but here's where things start breaking down. The players have to be willing to do a LOT of math and consult a lot of charts to find out what is happening.Characters can suffer from continuing blood loss, after-effects of criticals, and such things as being stunned by seeing their leg chopped off.Very realistic and morbidly humorous. Also VERY slow.Battles that take a minute of game time can easily take 2-3 hours of real time.I don't know about you, but I've got better things to do with my time.

The other problem with the game system also naturally flows out of the combat system. If combat is so bloody, how do the characters keep going?Lots of spells.Lots and lots of spells. You can't use this system for low-magic situations because the characters would be incapacitated by a bar-fight for weeks.Realistic but not fun.

Managing all of the wounds, bleeding, rounds of stun, spells, spell points, effects of spells, and spell point-enhancing items can be quite a chore as well. This isn't a game system for the faint of heart, folks.

So you're probably wondering why I'm giving this game as high a rating as I do.The reason is also simple, I love Middle Earth and I've yet to find a game system that does more justice to Middle Earth than Rolemaster.

Yes, the system is dated (dates back to the late 1970's, in fact).Yes, it's clunky and requires a calculator and 3 sheets of scrap paper per player per game session. When you bring it all together in Middle Earth it still plays great! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars If you know nothing about fantasy baseball
This book may be of help to a raw beginner, but even then be warned that it's mostly about auction leagues.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Head to Head and only for Auction
This might be useful in going up against newbies, or the moronic. However, if you are in a long term savvy league (like me) there is nothing here to gain.I'll save you money - trade for marginal value.Ta da!All the valuations are geared towards a roto auction draft. It is useless for snake drafts and his psychological tricks theory applies poorly to online leagues where communication is strictly by email. Also, the system does not account for Head to Head leagues where those ten homers in the first month mean nothing at the end of the season. To be fair, he does dedicate about five sentences to Head to Head in the book - all to say his theories apply just as well.I'll just read the Baseball Prospectus next year and end up first in both my leagues (again) without this tripe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for first time auction drafts
Read this in prep for my first auction draft to get a handle on the differences between that and the regular snake drafts I always played.Offered great insight on objective ways to evaluate and rank everybody. Also good chapters on strategy as well to help avoid pitfalls during auction.Recommended as a good read for anyone venturing into (or are already in) auction drafts.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK EVER FOR WINNING YOUR LEAGUE!
I can't tell you how valuable I found Henry Lee's book! After mainly floundering in our 12-team league for 12 years, I followed Henry's strategies for our draft and was in the top three all year, only to drop to fourth on the last day of the season. If you want a strategy that will catapult you to the top, look no further.Henry is the REAL DEAL!I highly recommend this book and Henry's spreadsheet to anyone who wants to win it not just be in it.Thank you, Henry!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not particularly advanced or new
If the author truly has a PhD in astrophysics, as suggested by one reviewer, he must have a Bush speechwriter as a ghostwriter since most of the book is at about an 8th grade level.

This book will help you only if you are a fantasy baseball novice, and you play in the same type of shallow mixed type league as the author.Or if you are an 8th grader.

Otherwise the strategies presented within have all been done before, and often written about more clearly and in greater detail by earlier authors.

If you are desperate to spend 20 bucks on this book, send it to me, and I'll send you the book and 10 bucks change.Otherwise you would be better served to read older books by John Benson, Alex Patton, Art McGee, Ron Shandler, and Pete Golenbock. Many of the editions are old or out of print but can be picked up for a few bucks either on Amazon or Alibris. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars All the creepy, crawlies.
I wrote a long review about the AD&D Player's Handbook that discuss the feel of AD&D a little bit so for this review I'm just going to cover this, the Monstrous Manual. Unlike the Dungeon Master's Handbook this book is extremely useful and a most have for any AD&D players. The MM, as some say, is nothing but creatures that you could run into during a campaign or quest. It gives you everything from common animals to dragons and everything inbetween. It also gives you the average person from each race, in classes that you might run into.
Not only does the MM give you all these creatures it also gives you their stats. This means that going into a battle the DM knows exactly how powerful a monster is and what kind of treasure you might get. The MM doesn't end there though, oh no! It also gives you the information to how the monsters think, fight, where they live, breeding habits, everything. Literaly everything you need to know about a monster is within this one book. With 3rd-4th editions you had to buy anywhere from 2 to 4 books just to get the same information in this one book. And the greatest thing about it is it gives such complete examples of monsters that you can easily create your version of them or completely new monsters as you wished! Think about it, 4th edition already has two monster manuals out, each a full priced book ($29-39). And they will make more! Why spend so much when you can have it all right here in a much better format? I highly recommand this book because of its mutliple levels of value and how easy it is to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Lorebook
On the whole, the art is worse this time around, compared to current 4e stuff. Some DeTerlizzi works do stand out, but I wouldn't buy this book just for a half dozen pictures. The reason to get it would be the lore. Every creature is described not only in terms of physical appearance and combat tactics, but "ecologically" as well. What it eats, what it's lair looks like, what it's body parts or eggs can be sold for, who its allies are etc etc. You find out, for example, that Green Dragons and Hill Giants hunt each other's young and each considers the other a dire enemy and a rival for territory.

I think it can be safely said that this is the only book in existence that describes the alchemical uses of some 250 fantastical creatures and how many young they bear (or how they replicate themselves, in the case of undead). If this is interesting to you, then by all means buy this book. A used copy is only about 6 bucks before shipping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another good Classic
Book in good condition. Great cover art - just what I missed. Brings back some great memories and I can still use it to play.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any AD&D game.
I decided to go back to the basics, but all my books were stolen a long time ago. So, I bought this one. If you played AD&D, then you know this is a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to Monster Manual
This is an updated version of the original AD&D Version 1 Monster Manual. It includes more monsters and more complete descriptions, and the illustrations are more interesting and detailed.A great resource. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid as a fantasy dwarf
The author provides a lot of flavor for anyone wanting to play a dwarf in a D&Dv3 campaign.Like the other Quintessential books, it is geared at giving the player more choices.Prestige classes are oriented around the player instead of a fairly two dimensional villian.DMs shouldn't worry. This is not unbalanced. If anything it is a little conservative.

Fun factoids: the author notes that he used to work in the office of a gold mine -- he also ran a few all-dwarf D&D campaigns. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For a taste of the truly unique Elric! is unsurpassed.
This RPG has proved brilliant and entertaining for both novice role-player and experienced, for both those familiar with Moorecock's work and those who are not.I'll be the first to admit that the release of 3rd edition D&D has distracted me from this ingenious work of dark fantasy but before 3rd edition came out this system was the only one out of the many I have played in my 12 years of gaming to hold my attention (there are plenty of new rules that cropped up in 3rd edition that look familiar to ones in this book). The system of incresing abilities and skills is much better than the much acclaimed 3rd edition D&D.This game is also a much more "realistic" RPG than anything that TSR or Palladium ever put out.The fact that characters do not gain levels but instead increase their various skill and ablities by practicing them is a BIG step towards working realism in RPGs.There are none of the class restrictions found in other RPGs in this game. You can do what you learn how to do.And for those of us tired of explaining why our worlds are not controlled by the blatantly more powerful elven and dwarven races, this games' human-only content is quite refreshing. There is of course the non-human race known as the Melniboneans but they are little more (functionally speaking) than an eldritch and sorcerous race of decadent humans. My only complaints are that the book is paperback and that more people don't realize it's brilliance.Combat is extremely well laid out with an unsurpassed balance of realism, utility, and entertainment.Even if you do not plan to run the campaign this book is FULL of great ideas applicable to any RPG from personal character quirk lists to a great and novel system of allegiance to the forces of law and chaos.Just beware of those brutal critical hit tables!oof!Feel free to e-mail for general correspondence concerning elric!. ... Product Description
This book offers ten chapters examining contemporary fantasy entertainment forms that use virtual environments to amuse the participant. Called "virtual fantasies" by the author (as opposed to virtual realities), these entertainment forms are categorized into three main groupings. All include performance and imaginary environments as essential elements-participants are often simultaneously performers and audience. Many involve computer technology such as multimedia, digitized video, and online chatting. Part I covers imaginative fantasy entertainments, where the participants are required to use their imaginations to see the virtual environment. These include paper and pencil role-playing games (Dungeons and Dragons), live-action roleplaying games (International Fantasy Gaming Society rules), and collectible card games (Magic: The Gathering). Part II covers physical fantasy entertainments, where the participants need little imagination to see the virtual environment. These include computer games (Star Trek: Klingon), theme park rides (Disneyland's Star Tours), and immersive museums (National Museum of the American Indian). Part III covers social fantasy entertainments, where participants have built communities based upon the virtual environment (Star Trek fandom, Star Wars influencing Ronald Reagan's Pax Americana). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I liked it, but it can be better
Fantasy Football Almanac 2009 was not to the standard that I want it to be. I take ultimate responsibility for that as I signed off on the final version. I will not make any excuses. I have listened to all the comments here in previous reviews and in emails/letters and posts.

I promise change for Fantasy Football Almanac 2010 as follows:

1) Lower Price! (It is available for pre-order from many online sites now at even lower prices than this years $10.95 cover price-$2 less than previous years)

2) Better editing and formatting. (I am going with a different publisher/editor)

3) More text and analysis. Readers requested more depth in why I make my predictions and I will provide as much as possible.

4) Earlier availability-Readers complained that the book arrived in June in some cases versus May, so I arranged with my new printer for the book to become available by 1 May. Shipping by some retailers is beyond my control however.

5) Consistency-Fonts and sizes will be consistent and the schedules will be better

6) Tiers returned to the tables to show the breaks in talent.

I can only hope that you try the 2010 version, see the improvements, and like them enough to get a copy in 2011 as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but could have been better
I liked this book for several reasons.
1) It is out the beginning of May. I bought it and had it for my late May draft and to take on vacation for the Memorial Day week. No other fantasy football magazines are out this early. Heck I had to wait until after 4 July to find a Fantasy Football Index magazine this year. I like having something early and this comes out shortly after the NFL draft.

2) It is a book, not a magazine. It stands up pretty well against the orange juice my kids spill on it and the water from the bathtub and the drops it takes from me falling asleep in the lounger.

3) No advertisements. Most of them are scantily clad women these days (Ok I do not mind that, but my wife does). My wife says that most of the magazines she has thumbed through look like porn and she does not want them in the house lying around.

4) Mr. Hendricks is not afraid to point out his mistakes. Not too many "experts" point out their misses. Most just advertise their one big pick that they got right the previous year and move on. In 2008, he admitted to predicting T. Romo as a bust for 2007 and said he got it wrong. In 2009, he mentioned missing on Larry Johnson in 2008. I liked seeing that.

5) I like the large print for the schedule. Some of the magazines print it so small it is an eye test. Granted over 20 pages is too much. LOL Next year how about a compromise between 2 and 20.

6) I really liked the depth chart, which was new this year. And the added left hand column for changing a rank or up and down arrows. Neat!

What I did not like:
1) Too many different font styles and sizes. Some player's names were larger than others were. Why? Are they better draft choices?

2) What happened to the tiers from 2008? I liked that grouping of like players.

3) More text and less statistics. I do not care about the 58th QB or the 108th LB

4) Give me more analysis. I loved Fantasy Football Guidebook. Get back to that format more.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oi.
Mr. Hendricks should be commended for the effort that went in to this publication, but a whole lot more work was needed to make it ready for the public. There are two consistent flaws -- a lack of valuable content, and a presentation that would have been called embarrassingly amateurish ten years ago, and in this day and age simply defies description.

It begins with his summary of last year's sleeper/breakout/bust predictions. He pats himself on the back for correctly predicting breakout seasons for Ronnie Brown, Bernard Berrian, and Jason Elam.Well, Brown hit a career low in yds/game, and had a lower td/game than the previous (injury shortened) season.Bernard Berrian increased his totals by a whopping 13 yards and 2 touchdowns, while seeeing a 1/3 decrease in receptions. So, in most PPR leagues, Berrian had two more points than the previous year. Not exactly the standard definition of "breakout".Similarly for Elam, what would be a "breakout" season for a kicker who kicked 27 field goals the previous year, and who has kicked 30 or more field goals three times previously?I don't know that anybody would consider his 29 FGs to be a "breakout".

He also pats himself on the back for calling Tom Brady a "bust".Most people consider a "bust" to be somebody who actually plays a little ball and stinks out the joint.Everybody predicted Brady (like Manning, Marino, and Warner before him) would have a significant drop in touchdowns in '08, so unless he predicted an early season-ending injury for Brady, I don't know that congratulations are in order.

Then there are his predictions for next year.Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but would anybody consider a 1,000 receiver entering his prime (Vincent Jackson) to be a "sleeper"?How about a 1,000 rusher (Derrick Ward)?Or, how about a QB (Kyle Orton) who threw for 2970 yards and 18 TDs in 15 games in receiverless Chicago, who now moves to Denver and its two 1,000 yard receivers?Maybe he'll stink, maybe he'll star, but in no way is Orton a "sleeper".

Then there are his predictions for team-by-team results for 2009.Again, it's hard to fault someone for an opinion.I won't even fault him for his prediction that no team will win fewer than five games, even though it's never happened in the history of the 16, 15, or 14 game schedule (in the last group, one or more teams always finished with no more than 2 wins, so 5 in 16 would have been impossible). After all, there's an old saying that there's no such thing as a 2-14 team. There are only 4-12 teams that get unlucky.Sometimes REALLY unlucky.

What I can fault him for is that when 32 teams play 16 games, all against each other, you won't end up with 257 total wins.

As for the format, it's extremely poor.Throughout the charts and tables, there is (within the same table) a mixture of fonts, sizes, sometimes bold, mostly not. There are innumerable spelling mistakes. Some players have first names, others just have first initials. Then some apparently have joined the ranks of single name celebrities --Prince, Madonna, Delhomme....

He reprints the league's schedules -- both by team, and by week... and takes TWENTY SIX PAGES.Most resources take one for each.

There's a large statistical section at the end, but it appears they have all simply been copied from a football website and reprinted, without any kind of credit or attribution.I say this because in most of those charts, the players' names are underlined, as are the team initials, but nothing else. The underlining strongly suggests a hyperlink. In addition, in those charts, there is complete consistency of font and naming style, full first and last name, or initials if that's how the player is commonly referred to.In charts that were generated by Hendricks, such as "Kicker Rankings 20099 (sic)", Jay Feely is just "Feely", John Kasay is just "J Kasay", while "Nate Kaeding" is fully spelled out, though it's a longer name than either of the others.

One could probably track down the precise website, based on the team initials used. Not too many sites use exclusively three letter initials for all teams -- NWE instead of NE, SFO instead of SF, for example. His tables use JAC for the Jaguars, most sites use JAX, so there's probably only one or two that fit that profile.

There is one table of the book that's of some interest -- he has a chart that shows the week-by-week defensive ranking of each team's opponents, with weeks 14-16 (fantasy playoffs) in bold.Defensive rankings tend to be widely inconsistent from year to year.Weather, however, isn't.All things considered I'd rather have players from a team playing the #15 defence indoors on the road than players at home in Chicago or Buffalo or New York playing the #20 ranked defence.

In any event, there's certainly some potential here.More text, fewer tables, and more in-depth analysis, combined with a more professional presentation might well justify the $12.95 price tag.But as is, you're better off with any of the fantasy magazines out there. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Scam Alert
[...]It is probably the absolute WORST book ever written on the subject of sports handicapping.Half of the book is completely useless information about websites [...], and a gambling Glossary that is written for idiots. The other half is total nonsense, with wagering techniques that are not valid.I could dispel 95% of what he purports to be sound methods, but I do not wish to waste any more of my time here than is necessary to protect other honest people [...]The book is printed with enormous fonts, like a Kindergarten book.If it had been written in normal fonts, it would maybe be 15 pages long, instead of 100.The author will give you his "Picks for Life" if you give him your address and phone number, so he can sell them to other advertisers. And I guarantee you that his picks are unadulterated garbage.I like to buy many books on a subject, thinking that I can at least glean SOMETHING of value from each one. This book offers NOTHING, and is grossly overpriced.[...] ... 1-0 out of 5 stars NOT an AD&D Module
Bought this hoping it would let me run the Dragonlance set of modules - NO WAY .... theres a great deal of information in here but its not an AD&D module - there are no maps (OK there are a few maps but there sketches with zero details) and the monster STATs are woefull. If you want some background info this is great - as an AD&D module it STINKS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep things in perspective....
Firstly, I am glad that the previous reviewer enjoyed the art enclosed. However, art is subjective and I have to admit that I was disappointed inthe portayals of the characters in pictures. Elmore is still my favorite DLartist. One of the reason I picked Krynn as the world I will build an epiccampaign upon is the art associated with it. If you are wanting to run theoriginal adventures, track down the modules through friends, auctions, andused book stores. But still get this book in order to expand your knowledgeof the chronicles and such. In my case I will be running a campaign that isnot going to follow the chronicles. However the heroes of the lamce will bethere doing what they always do. If the player characters encounter them, any number of things could happen. I am gathering as many resourcesaspossible in order to be prepared for whatever may come. That is what makesthis book essential. My player characters may wind up having to take overfor Tanis, Raistlin, and Tas if they cause trouble. Need better maps? Trackdown the atlas, trail map, original modules or just use your owncreativity.

1-0 out of 5 stars Really, Really BAD
This Campaign really is bad.It is just an attempt to feed off the popularity of dragonlance books.I would recomend some other books that are more organized.Evberything is not easy to understand and is far tooboring. There is no reason someone should get this book, it is far toboring to come of use.The only good point is the map of Krynn.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for old-timers and newbies alike!
The Dragonlance Saga is the longest-standing TSR series ever, the archetype of "classic" AD&D.With the advent of the SAGArules system, however, and the absence of Weis and Hickman in the creativeprocess until recently, Dragonlance has taken a turn for the worse. However, this book is a great way to get back to the basics of what madeDragonlance and AD&D great back in the late 80s.Old-timers can playthe epic again in a stream-lined, comprehensive book, made new by theinclusion of SAGA-style rules.Classic AD&D rules are also provided, though I recommend giving SAGA a shot, even if you're not into the FifthAge products. Those new to the Dragonlance series can take part in whatmade it so great. The Chronicles and Legends novels have seen their thirdor fourth reprint for good reason.

I do have a few gripes about thematerial.I suggest that the referee running the adventure be familiarwith the novels and make suitable changes as he sees fit.In some ways, this adventure follows the original adventure modules more than it does thenovels, meaning that the same inconsistencies exist, even thoughDragonlance Classics does include several sections explaining how the plotwas advanced in the novels.I advise making some changes to the statisticsof the characters to better reflect the novels. If you have any of theexpansion material for Fifth Age, you can still use some of it to enhanceyour use of this product--there are simply a few adjustments to be made, which are not difficult at all.

In short, any Dragonlance or AD&Dfan looking for a quality product should seriously consider this one.Theyare few and far between.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia
I read the Dragonlance Chronichles nearly ten years ago now, but I've just recently started playing D&D. I can tell you that this book is great no matter what angle you approach it from. As a reader it goes into detailsthat were never covered in the novels, like what happened at the Icewall. As a player and more recently a DM this book provides what are in myopinion some of the finest written D&D adventures.

And don't let theSAGA rule system turn you off, the book includes regular AD&D stats foreverything as well.

I can't recommend this enough. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Elves, men, and dwarves
If you are planning any sort of Fantasy based game for GURPS, this book is a must. Not only does it present the classic races of elves, dwarves, gnomes, orc, halflings, and various others, but also gives them character more so than any other game I have found. Each race is given at least 2 to 3 pages of text, and that doesnt include the game mechanics. Also, because of the GURPS system, it is easy to modify and change the existing races for your personal games.

Also, their is a section on creating your own races for your game, which proves invaluable to any game master wanting to put in his own ideas. This is an award winning book, and a quick look through its pages will show you why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Innovatively presented fantasy staples for GURPS.
This excellent source books provides a way to create fantasy races and provides some very good examples using well-chosen fantasy races.People who have read the Fantasy Trip, Tunnels and Trolls and D&D rpgs will recognise and welcome these architypal races presented in a fresh and interesting style. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The most resourceful 3rd Edition FR book I own
Let's face it, Forgotten Realms is huge. It's hard to get your mind around so many lands and people.

But this book ties everything together so well, giving you the big picture of Faerun. It really tries to cover the different aspects of each race, their history, their origin, and their ties to everyone else. From the role playing perspective, this is a must. Games are full of humans, elves, and dwarves and this book lets you fill in all the details needed to make the role playing seem real.

I really love the human section of the book. Humans of Faerun have so many different personalities, appearances, and styles in Races of Faerun. You can actually play a person with his or her own culture and have interact with another human with completely different customs, heightening the realism.

Other than the Forgotten Realms Core book, this is the only FR book that I would give 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost got it right.
This book is quite useful.
It expands on some races and reintroduces some old classics. like the Winged Elf, the water elf, the Wemic, and the centur.

However it also just copies the entries for dark elves and planetouched races basically straight from the Forgotten realms campaign settingbook.
They could have used the space a little better instead of repeating races that 97% of us have access to. (If you have an interest in this book then its pretty much fact that you already have the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting).

Some of the region feats are nice and the a couple of the prestige classes are going to appeal to my players so for that regard it was worth the purchase price.

Summing up it gathers all the races from the Realms campaign setting and adds in some new ones. Mixes in some new feats, some old ones tweaked and a few prestige classes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Races of Faerun
This book contridicts the Forgotten Realms book written by Ed Greenwood. The elves inpertcular.
The book is put together well, but WoC should get their sources straightened out before they publish them

3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and informative, BUT
It should be called SOME of the Races of Faerun. The book offers a great deal of information, however it leaves gaps here and there just so it can fill them through another volume. For the price tag of this book I feel it is a bit incomplete. It could contain a lot more info on a lot more races. If you're only looking for general information on the most prominent races of Faerun, this is for you. However it should not be considered THE source of info, as it is anything but complete and thorough.

4-0 out of 5 stars A necessary book for the lover of Faerun
This book is a great resource for any lover of Faerun and the Forgotten Realms. The background on the human subraces adds some great flavour to the Forgotten Realms! The feats and prestige classes are good. And the information about the different races of Faerun is also very helpful (particularly about the planetouched - tieflings, genasi, and aasimar). ...
