I didn't need this anymore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Physical Education
I have used this book for two years now and found it helpful with lots of practical information. Implementing the lessons will require the lesson plans(not included) to fully utilize the contents of the book. This book is Sport based and Standards based. There are 36 weekly lessons which gives the program lots of structure. The author assumes you have enough space (indoor & outdoor) to teach the program. The cost of equipment can be high although there is a pretty good section on "How to make your own" equipment. I believe this book is a good resource, chapters are organized and mirror the weekly lesson plan book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality of Content.
I have this book, and really think that it has a vast ray of information that helps the Physical Education Teacher prepare a developmentally appropriate Lesson. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars USAF Stability and Control Datcom
A.F. Project Engineer: D.E. Hoak ⢠McDonnell Douglas Corporation ⢠Douglas Aircraft Division

Principal Investigator: R.D. Finck

October 1960 ⢠Contract AF33(616)-6460

Revised April 1978 ⢠Contract F33615-76-C-3061

Project No. 8219 ⢠Task No. 821901

Flight Control Division ⢠Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory ⢠Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio

The purpose of the Datcom (Data Compendium) is to provide a systematic summary of methods for estimating basic stability and control derivatives. The Datcom is organized in such a way that it is self-sufficient. For any given flight condition and configuration the complete set of derivatives can be determined without resort to outside information. The book is intended to be used for preliminary design purposes before the acquisition of test data. The use of reliable test data in lieu of the Datcom is always recommended. However, there are many cases where the Datcom can be used to advantage in conjunction with test data. For instance, if the lift-curve slope of a wing-body combination is desired, the Datcom recommends that the lift-curve slopes of the isolated wing and body, respectively, be estimated by methods presented and that appropriate wing-body interference factors (also presented) be applied. If wing-alone test data are available, it is obvious that these test data should be substituted in place of the estimated wing-alone characteristics in determining the lift-curve slope of the combination. Also, if test data are available on a configuration similar to a given configuration, the characteristics of the similar configuration can be corrected to those for the given configuration by judiciously using the Datcom material.

The major classification of sections in the Datcom is according to type of stability and control parameter. This classification is summarized below:

Section 1: Guide to Datcom and Methods Summary (present discussion including the Methods Summary)
Section 2: General information
Section 3: Reserved for future use
Section 4: Characteristics at angle of attack
Section 5: Characteristics in sideslip
Section 6: Characteristics of high-lift and control devices
Section 7: Dynamic derivatives
Section 8: Mass and inertia
Section 9: Characteristics of VTOL-STOL aircraft

4-0 out of 5 stars A little vague, but usable
I found the guide to be a little more vague than other study guides that I've purchased. The other guides included summarized chapters with the information. I was expecting more of the same from the ETS guide. It is basically an outline with example questions. To find it useful, you will need to purchase additional text or have a background in the subject. In that case, it would be very helful and I would increase the rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
My package came in speedy time and excellent shape. It saved me time and money to order this book from Amazon.com.I highly recommend looking here for the books that are need for tests, school, and/or pleasure reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars book is SPECIFIC to the praxis...
This book seems to be advertised as good review for the CSET as well.WRONGO!Admittedly, it does have a few fun practice questions.Really though, its a very specific guide for the PRAXIS (the format of the test, the format for the constructed responses etc). The book contains little or no PE information. So dont rely on it for learning or review. This book will only help you gain familiarity and comfort with the format, and perhaps some understanding of expectations.

Book Description
This comprehensive collection of teacher-tested unit plans, lesson plans, and teaching and assessment tools will save any secondary school physical education teacher invaluable planning and preparation time. Each lesson plan moves toward written goals from the moment students walk onto the floor until the moment they leave. The lessons integrate physical, cognitive, and social skills in a natural sequence, allowing plenty of opportunity for repetition to help students ingest the material, develop competency, and be rewarded with a sense of control.

The CD-ROM that accompanies the text allows you to pull up lessons on the screen, modify them, and print them for your classes. You can then save them for later use. You can also adjust lessons to reflect your own style, pace lessons to meet your classes' needs, and select drills that work best for your students. The result: quality lesson plans that meet the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) standards.

Both the book and the CD-ROM contain

• student homework,
• handouts for many of the sports,
• more than 25 performance assessment rubrics,
• quizzes,
• student portfolio checklists, and
• tournament charts.

The performance assessment rubrics provide a way for students, classmates, and teachers to evaluate students' progress based on degrees of accomplishment and experience level. In fact, Complete Physical Education Plans for Grades 7-12 is the only book that contains performance assessment rubrics for secondary students in physical education—and the rubrics are so clear that students can use them to rate each other.

With Complete Physical Education Plans for Grades 7-12, you have everything you need to develop, plan, and assess a program. It allows you to spend less time in your office and more time in the gym and on the field doing what you love to do best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for all phys ed teachers.

In assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of this text, probably the drawings are the weakest part, the dotted lines of action are at times quite confusing in the badminton & golf section and there seems to be an overabundance of male representation in most of the sports( but equal in the dance area).I would like to have seen a field hockey unit and some creative dance. But these are the only negative comments in 627 pages. WOW!!!!!!!
The strengths of the book are overwhelming. Ms. Kleinman emphasizes important facets that many teachers overlook.
* More action less oral explanation -too many teachers have Kids sitting listening to far too much info and forget they learn by DOING.She provide many examples of how to keep them moving, giving good hints on how to organize large numbers for maximum participation.
* Motivation is important - the example of using popular videos ( White Knights) for dance was excellent as were other suggestions.
* Using MIMETICS as part of the Warm up was a GREAT idea. It is often done immediately prior to a skill introduction but the thought of using it as a warm up was exciting, so much better thanboring Jumping jacks and static stretches.
* The development and progression of skills and strategies were excellent, the integration of skills with mini games is so natural to keep the interest level up. And making adaptations of regular rules to encourage the newly learned skills was clearly highlighted. The division into beg/intermediate/advanced units simply identifies logical progression, too often people teach the same skills year after year.
* Teaching during tournaments is something that many teachers forget. Playing is a learning environment but analysis is essential to embrace an educational setting and Ms. Kleinman offers the teacher areas of focus for games analysis.
* Assessment in schools too often pertains to a statistical evaluation -how many baskets were scored? Whereas this texts provides very specific rubrics that are clearly identified and relate to the process and development of skill including understanding and application of strategy and defense play, something which very few other books have addressed.
* Similarly the provision of a quiz at the end of each unit gives the teacher ideas on how to test cognitive knowledge in practical subjects.
These are all refreshing new additions to texts in the field and this book should be on the desk of every physical education teacher in the country. The addition of a CD ROM which allows teachers to make adjustments to the evaluation and assessment charts, to personalize them for their own classes/students, is an incredible bonus. As is the recognition of modem technology with inclusion of current web sites as extra resources.
Reading through this text made me excited about teaching again and wondering if I had retired too early! Congratulations it is an excellent publication.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you can only buy one PE resource, this is the one to buy!
Isobel Kleinman has produced the most comprehensive PE lesson plan book I have ever seen. From novice teachers to the veteran professional this book is packed with useful and informative information on the most common PE sports and activities currently required by national, state and district standards.Ms. Kleinman starts each chapter with reproducible handouts to introduce the sport/activity and allow for exploration beyond the basic info. Each LEVEL intro includes Unit Setup, Safety, Timeline, Assessment, and Additional Resources. Each LESSON includes Performance Goals, Cognitive Goals, Warm-Ups, Motivation, Teaching Sequence and Review.Student materials include Portfolio Checklist, Workout Charts, Logs, Performance Assessment Rubrics, and Quizzes.Comprehensive and complete lesson plans (with illustrations/diagrams) cover beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels for an average three-week block of time. The book is divided into a comprehensive Introduction, Fitness, Lifetime Activities, and Team Sports sections.Appendices include Tournament Charts, General Assessment Rubrics and the NY State Physical Fitness Norms. The book comes with a CD ROM.
I have found the information in this book to be up-to-date and tremendously relevant. The book is well laid-out in outline format with headings in large bold type.AN OUTSTANDING RESOURCE FOR ANY TEACHER. ... Read more

I also think this book is great with a great progression of skills and clear directions and photos. Can easily be adapted for a useful preK motor development guide as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Ideas for teachers
This book has an abundance of great PE games and activities for teachers who have little experience or familiarity teaching PE right up to different ways of teaching mandatory skills for the experienced teacher. Many of the activities need few or no equipment which is good for many teachers who work in schools with few resources.I highly recommend this book to any early primary teacher.

The new edition is split into two books--one for the elementary level and another for middle school--so you pay only for the lesson plans you need. Each book still provides developmentally appropriate lesson plans for every day of the school year plus information on how to organize classes to best implement the lessons. You can use the time you save on developing and organizing content to focus on providing quality teacher-learner interaction.

Both new books include an introductory section that explains basic motor development concepts and effective teaching strategies. With this background information fresh in your mind, it's easy to apply the ready-to-use lesson plans for maximum effectiveness. Other helpful features new to the second editions include

• new activities, including units on health (in keeping with the increased emphasis on health-related physical activity);

• unit summaries; and

• new artwork throughout.

Physical Education for Children: Daily Lesson Plans for Middle School includes 143 lessons for grades K-5. (Physical Education for Children: Daily Lesson Plans for Elementary School features 437 lessons for grades 6-8.) The activities become more challenging as you progress through the grade levels, and new activities are added at the higher levels. For each level, you'll find units of lesson plans on the following topics:

• Organization

• Fitness

• Games and Sports

• Rhythmic Activities

• Gymnastics

• Health

• Classroom Activities

The units on organization include both general concepts and sample lesson plans that demonstrate how to conduct classes that maximize students' opportunities to learn. The classroom activities are perfect to use on rainy days or as a teaching tool in a standard classroom curriculum.

The ready-to-use, fully illustrated lesson plans feature

• student objectives,

• lists of equipment needs,

• warm-up activities,

• skill development activities, and

• concluding activities.

You'll also find an appendix at the back of the book that provides rating scales and evaluation forms to help you conduct assessments.

The Physical Education for Children books make it easy for teachers to combine program planning, lesson plan development, and effective teaching practices to provide a quality physical education program. No elementary or middle school physical education teachers, especially new teachers, should be without them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars PE Teacher's best friend!
This instructional book is fantastic. The detailed lesson plans for the whole year is very helpful. It's a PE teacher's best friend!

5-0 out of 5 stars A godsend!
In my first year of teaching PE, I needed some help in figuring out how to meet all of California's State Standards (they were new this year). This book became a valuable resource in planning out my classes.

I used their plan and then tailored it to meet my classes (I taught nine classes K-6). I was able to identify which standard the plan met and could cut and paste to meet the needs of my students. AS only having an outdoor area to work in, I was able to use most of the plans with what equipment I had. It did lack in outdoor activities for limited areas, but I used other resources for that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very valuable resource!
