5-0 out of 5 stars Get It
If you really want to be perpaired for the PE PRAXIS II Exam this is the bookto get it has 2 practice tests and even a video practice exam. All of the test taking hints and tips were really good, i passed the Exams with flying colors.

2-0 out of 5 stars physical education and health study guide
This book is not helpful at all. The materials only cover 5% from what was in the test. I would not recommend buying this study guide.

2-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!
LIKE many other reviewers I found this book to be lacking in information specific to the HEALTH PRAXIS TEST. UNLIKE other PRAXIS study guides ( like the elementary one) it DOES NOT contain specific information. IT merely contains an outline of the info you need to know ESPECIALLY for the health section. I had to get most of my info from the internet and I am hoping that will be adequate. SINCE I HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE HEALTH EDUCATION FIELD FOR over 20 years I was looking for something that would help me review...THIS book was NOT IT!!!!!!! I hope I pass the test!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful at all.
I found this book to not be helpful at all. The materials that I studied in this book were not on the test. I would not recommend buying this study guide, but if you do, please do not rely solely on this book helping you to pass the test. You will definitely need to buy other books and study guides.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little vague, but usable
I found the guide to be a little more vague than other study guides that I've purchased. The other guides included summarized chapters with the information. I was expecting more of the same from the ETS guide. It is basically an outline with example questions. To find it useful, you will need to purchase additional text or have a background in the subject. In that case, it would be very helful and I would increase the rating. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Gives a lot of valuable information but none valuable for passing the CSET
I agree that this book does have a lot of subject matter information but the CSET is not designed to test how much you know about the subject. The CSET is a typical norm reference test where it tests your test taking ablility rather than your knowledge. I will admit that this book helped me pass the Subtest 1 but for the other two Subtests (2,3) the booked helped very little. The CSET is purely strategy and any person with good common sense and a good strategy for multiple choice tests can pass the CSET. I made the mistake of studying this book and failing two of the tests because I focused on the information of this book and did not practice my test taking skills. My advice is to study the practice tests online for at the CSET website and practice the essay portion becasue the question format is exact only different subject matter. Here it is from a money percpective: It costs $70 per test and this book costs anywhere from $40 to $70. Chances are that you will be spending extra money to retake one of the tests and to spend your money on a practice book that costs just as much as the test and doesn't help is a waist of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book is the reason I passed the CSET
I read the reviews on this book and they were mixed, however study guides for this subject are hard to find. The CSET is a ridiculous test that pulls random questions from all spectrums of the subject. However, I bought this book and it gave me a great overview and foundation for studying and ultimately passing the CSET. Not everything that I was tested on is in the book, but I don't think they could possibly make a book with all of the subject knowledge in it. The book gave me a great starting point to pull information from and their is no way I would have passed the test without it. ... Read more

Product Description

Teaching Adventure Education Theory: Best Practices offers stimulating, fun, and engaging activities instructors can use to assist future adventure educators, outdoor leaders, and group facilitators in making the connections between adventure theory and practice. Written for students and instructors who want their classroom experience to be as involving as the field environment, this professional reference features ready-to-use lesson plans that employ experiential education strategies for presenting the theory underlying the technical and facilitation skills required in leading adventure experiences.

Editors Stremba and Bisson and leading adventure educators from the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan provide an extensive perspective on teaching adventure theory, philosophy, history, and conceptual models through the use of activity-based learning. They offer a collection of 34 lesson plans that can be easily modified to fit individual teaching styles or student needs. Each lesson plan provides detailed activity instructions, teaching suggestions, and an overview of the theory taught in the lesson to provide the instructor with background conceptual material. An instructor CD-ROM, included with the text, contains student handouts, worksheets, and PowerPoint presentations to facilitate lesson implementation and assessment.

Teaching Adventure Education Theory presents experiential lesson plans covering such topics as these:

-Instructional theory and curriculum design processes

-History of adventure education

-Educational and philosophical foundations of adventure education, including lessons on John Dewey's contributions

-Central theories supporting common field practices, including optimal arousal theory, self-efficacy theory, attribution theory, and the flow theory

-Leadership models and theories

The book also provides a framework for implementing the lesson plans.

Teaching Adventure Education Theory: Best Practices assists instructors in bringing to the classroom the experiential learning, critical reflection, and interdependent community that a challenging outdoor environment facilitates, helping students broaden their view of adventure education to encompass its theoretical dimensions.

Product Description
Philosophy is a crucial, yet often overlooked, part of kinesiology students’ education. Practical Philosophy of Sport and Physical Activity, Second Edition, provides students with a thorough, clear, and practical introduction to the philosophy of physical activity and sport, and in doing so, prepares them for the ethical questions they will face as professionals.

This second edition has been significantly revised, and it has been enhanced to include the following features:·Expanded instruction on practical ethics in physical activity, guiding students in how to rank values and turn those values into actions·New material that emphasizes physical activity as well as sport, and provides specific holistic techniques for the practitioner in the workplace·In-depth case studies, one on running up the score and the other on performance-enhancing substances, from previously published articles that have been reprinted in their entirety in the appendix·Discussion questions based on the case studies that can be used to teach students how to follow a philosophical argument and come to their own conclusions

Practical Philosophy of Sport and Physical Activity, Second Edition, helps students examine key moral questions in sport. Its approach to the content helps students follow and dissect ethical arguments, think through philosophic issues, and apply theory to practice. Each chapter includes objectives, philosophical exercises, reviews, and study questions to reinforce understanding. Kretchmar’s engaging writing style accentuates important topics of discussion, focusing the readers’ attention on the philosophy behind the practice or strategy. As a result, students develop their philosophical skills, refine their personal philosophy concerning physical activity and sport, and learn that philosophy can be clear, practical, and holistic, rather than obscure, overly theoretical, and dualistic.

The text is arranged in four parts. Part I introduces students to the nature and methods of philosophy. Part II focuses on issues relating to the nature of the athlete or client and includes analyses of dualism, scientific materialism, and holism. Part III delves into kinesiology issues, including the nature of play, games, and competition, and Part IV provides expanded material on ethics, value choices, and active lifestyles.

This text provides students with the practical tools and specific techniques they need to think ethically and systematically, as they become skilled practitioners in the field of physical activity and sport. In doing so, it demystifies philosophy and reveals it as the guiding element in our understanding of, and approach to, activity, games, and competitions. ... Read more
