Impressive customer service !

Amazing book
The reader and reviewer who wrote this book is the ULTIMATE has it right. This book is everything an autograph collector needs. Besides the thousands of celebrity addresses, this book backs up the names with celebrity facts. If you want a complete history of actors it is there under the website named in the book, if you want other facts to write to the celebrity about it is there. (the book has celebrity hobbies, celebrity charities, celebrity birthdays, celebrity hangouts and a lot of useful facts about celebrities)This is the only celebrity directory I will ever need. Philly Eagles addictfrom NY who's also a Robert Smith fan (yea im confused, so what)
Although this book would probably be best appreciated by those of us who were already Robert Smith fans, it should also be interesting to anyone who follows football. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because he kept it real--he was honest about the good and not-so-good things he had done in his life and throughout his football career. He gives readers insight into a player's frame of mind before and after games, and the drama that can sometimes occur between players in the locker room. I was a little disappointed that he didnt address some of the rumors that he has to know we have heard, but I liked that he wasn't afraid to give his opinions on divisive issues like race and religion, even though I didnt agree with some of them. I will definitely be reading this book again.

Pass On This One
I was very disappointed in the overall content of the book.Very little insight into the game of football.The author's view of race, religion, and politics added nothing but a few pages to the length of the book.

A positive review...
I purchased this book because I find it intriguing that a guy with a gazillion dollar future ahead of him walked away from it all to pursue another path.How many of us would do the same I wonder? Smith consistently had an interesting and thoughtful perspective throughout his athletic career.And that's exactly what he still manages to deliver in this book.For those of you looking for solutions to resolve all that ills our society or a good dissing on Randy Moss for that matter, you are not going to find it here.Just his point of view, which is personally why I bought it to begin with.And whether you agree with his thought process or not, I don't think the guy needs any validation.His actions have always spoke volumes about his character.Overall, I found this book to be a commendable first time effort from a notable personality that I hope we hear more from in the future.

Disappointing
I trudged through the book hoping there would be some kernels of stimulating thought. But I never really found any. The same themes -- sometimes nearly the same sentences -- appeared over and over and over. Smith seems to want to capitalize on his football status as well as the idea that he's "articulate for an athlete."

2 books in 1
After hearing Robert speak on a local radio show, I found his opinions interesting and the fact that he was obviously articulate made me curious about the book.I asked for and received it for Christmas and was not disappointed.As a huge football fan, and someone who had him on his fantasy football team both good and bad years, I enjoyed the first part of the book for it's insider's look into the life of an NFL player.Although I didn't agree with some of his positions regarding player compensation, it is basically an autobiography and therefore we must expect that the writer will tell us his opinions.Whether we agree with them or not, you must feel that he is entitled to them or you should not be reading an autobiography.The 2nd part of the book is insightful and thought provoking.Maybe it helped that I happened to agree with most of his opinions, I don't know.

I guess my only real "complaint" about the book was where he tried to illustrate his point about player salaries by using analogies to more common work environments.The purpose of an analogy is usually to get the person to agree with something that they can more readily identify with and therefore agree with the original situation.But what if you do not agree with the analogy?Does that mean that you do not agree with the original statement, or does it just mean that it was a bad analogy?To me it just made him seem as out of touch to the common man as we are to the professional football player.

"What would you say if your boss hired you at the same position as one of your co-workers but said that he was going to pay you a salary 5 percent lower?"

Well, I just accepted a job in a field where I have 15 years experience and am working with a friend of mine who has 4 years experience.I'm making %15 less.I needed the job so I accepted it.That does not mean that I don't agree with him holding out for more money that season.

"Imagine if your boss asked you to come in a few hours early every day and said he was going to pay you 1 percent of your normal salary."

Many people are "salaried" employees (myself included) and are asked to come in early, stay late and work weekends with no extra pay, let alone 1 percent.I am a computer programmer in the healcare industry so I am quite sure that Robert's healthcare software company has salaried employees that this happens to all the time.Again, just because I don't agree with the analogy it doesn't necessarily mean that I agree with the practice.

Waste of time and money
I purchased this book expecting to get a complete listing of values for autographs of celebrities and athletes.What I got was nothing more than a reproduction of the listings that Beckett includes in its monthly publications.With the exception of about 200 prices for celebrityautographs (which is a far cry from the thousands you would find in otherpublications), this book has nothing that you can't get in a monthly issueof Beckett.It may have a few nice pictures, but that does not make up forits lack of content.And the prices are obscene!Is a Dean Cain sig worthmore than Willie Mays?Or for that matter is Dean Cain worth more thanJack Nicholson? Where do they get their information? They spend way toomuch time listing prices for autograph inserts manufactured by cardcompanies, and not enough time listing prices for REAL autographs obtainedby collecters.Can I get my twenty-five bucks back?

I am not being critical when I say, in retrospect I would not have purchased this book.The general info listed above doesn't really tell what you what you're buying, so I'll try to give you a bit more info here. Don't expect to learn a price estimate for your John Wayne photo here. There are about 500 Hollywood celebrity names and price estimates, but theyare all living performers.The baseball section is better.There's anactive player section as well as a lengthy retired section, includingdeceased players -- with price estimates.NO signature samples of thecelebrities are included.About 150 baseball players (past and present)signature samples are included.There are football, basketball hockeyboxing and other sports sections which are similar to the baseball section. Fun and Easy Recipes By Favorites!
These are very good recipes, they're fun and most are easy. I mean, if you can't handle Joan Rivers' recipe for Toast, there's something wrong! I tried Barbara Bush's Barbecue Chicken recipe and it's great. And myfavorite star Johnny Mathis provides 6 recipes including Southern CornBread, which I haven't tried, because I make mine with whole wheat blendflour, but I'm sure his is good, too! Really Good Read
The ediors were right when they said the book was superficial but that doesn't me it's not enjoyable. I couldn't put it down.

Allison, You Go Girl!
Allison is an excellent writer! I like the way she shared information on the top stars. The information was mostly positive and she kept the audience interest. We all don't have to read negative information about stars to enjoy a great book. In fact, I was more fascinated about the author's early career. Allison wrote about the sentimental side of each star.

A good resource but woefully incomplete.
The Celebrity Directory may be an indispensible resource for those dealing with celebrities on a regular basis, but in many basic respects it is disappointingly incomplete. While the inclusion of celebrities from previous years is welcome, new celebrities seem only to be added four or five years after they become "stars" - when they are added at all.

The introduction claims that "if a person is famous and worth locating, it's almost certain that his or her name and address is listed" in the Directory. People like Kevin Smith, Russell Crowe, Jeff Probst, Jason Mewes, Owen Wilson, Peter Jackson, and Jackie Chan are going to very disappointed to learn that they are neither famous nor worth locating. Fortunately, the mailing addresses of Gabe Kaplan, Men at Work, Wendy Jo Sperber, and His Royal Majesty King Tupou IV of Tonga are all readily available.

That last paragraph may seem a bit unfair, but come on! Owen Wilson has been making films since 1994 and Jackie Chan is quite possibly the most famous movie actor on the planet, if you count Asian box office - and these days, you should. A lag time of two or three years might be acceptable but eight or nine or even twenty or thirty, as in Chan's case? Inexcusable.

I will grant the editors that they have an impressive backlog and that they have accounted for a reasonable number of modern actors, but this book is not a comprehensive celebrity resource or even a comprehensive actor's resource. There's still a bit of legwork to be done if you're looking for someone who became active in the last five years and isn't yet a mega-super-star...
