This digital document is an article from Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, published by Northwestern University, School of Law on September 22, 2009. The length of the article is 16151 words. From the author: The legalization of Internet gambling is a hotly contested issue among its various supporters and detractors, despite the topic remaining in relative obscurity within criminal law scholarship. Advocates for online poker are particularly vocal in the belief that their activity should be exempt from any form of a gambling ban. Recent academic articles, as well as current legislative proposals, have in fact advocated for an environment where Internet gambling is regulated and taxed by the federal government. This Comment is intended to balance the Internet gambling debate by presenting economic and social arguments against a legalization regime. It also seriously questions whether Internet poker is deserving of an exemption from a gambling ban. Before reaching these issues, this Comment surveys the current focal point of Internet gambling law, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, as well as other existing and proposed gambling legislation. Ultimately, this Comment concludes that clearly defining "unlawful Internet gambling" and then broadening the criminalization of the activity to reach both operators and participants is a preferable approach to proposals that call for regulation and taxation.

Product Description
Greyhound racing is the sport of racing greyhounds. The dogs chase a lure (traditionally an artificial hare or rabbit) on a track until they arrive at the finish line. The one that arrives first is the winner. In many countries, greyhound racing is purely amateur and conducted for enjoyment. In other countries (particularly the UK, US, Ireland and Australia), greyhound racing is a popular form of gambling, similar to horse racing. There is some popular concern in the aforementioned countries regarding the well-being of the dogs; the effectiveness of industry efforts to address these concerns is controversial. A greyhound adoption movement has arisen to assist retired racing dogs in finding homes as pets. ... Read more

Product Description
I have never met a professional-level sports bettor who has not read the first edition of Education of a Sports Bettor. Most pro gamblers can quote passages from that first edition even years after having read it, and there can be no better testament than that to the value of this work. The purpose of writing this review is supposed to be to sell this 2nd Edition to sports bettors, but that purpose seems entirely unnecessary and redundant. It is as though the gods of sports betting are saying, "Of course, sports bettors will want this book. Just tell them it's available, then get out of the way and tell them where to buy it."

If you're already a successful handicapper get ready to improve your bottom line immediately and dramatically. If you're a recreational bettor wanting to expand your hobby this work will cut years from your learning time. Expert or beginner, you will be glad you got this book. The author covers everything it takes to be a successful sports bettor, including sections on how to predict winners in football, basketball and baseball, along with a thorough explanation of successful money management. Includes interviews with successful pro gamblers explaining 'how they do it'. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not applicable to Present Day Sports Gambling
Bob McCune's book "Education of a Sports Bettor" contains little advice which would actually help one become a professional gambler.JR Miller, (who is a long term losing tout) sells McCunes books on his website.Much of the book consists of long ramblings which offers no help (maybe some wisdom) on handicapping.

His baseball methodology will not work in todays market.. Sabermetrics is the way to go.I would suggest reading Michael Murray's "Betting Baseball" and the basketball information is rather outdated. You'd be better off learning how to statistically rate teams rather than use the simplistic method that Bob suggests.Betting the NBA is nowhere near as easy as when they article in this book was written (in the 1980's)

I do not recommend buying this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring read, bad poetry, useless advice
This is a book about sports gambling. It is supposed to provide the reader with an education, equipped with which he or she can finally beat the bookmaker. In a word it is horrible. The book is poorly written and it was a real struggle to force myself through the text. The chapters are littered with bad attempts at poetry.

Although there may be one or two useful points, they are buried under a massive proliferation of obvious statements, paragraphs that lead nowhere and gushings of "Bob's Law", an example of which reads "Just when you're getting ready to call your bookie, someone always calls you".

The book is ring bound and the presentation is very shabby. Although there are few things that are blatantly incorrect, I cannot find any redeeming attributes which would lead me to recommend this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Only slightly better than the average sports betting book
This book will help a beginner to understand just how uphill a battle it is to make any kind of serious money in sports betting. It lays out a couple of strategies (betting favorites, betting underdogs) and helps you to understand why they won't work long term. But it doesn't really tell you much beyond that.

When compared to the competition, this book is slightly better than most... the spelling and grammar are above average and, unlike other self-published print-on-demand books I've read, I didn't find myself saying, "This guy needs an editor," at least 5 times a chapter. On the other hand, while it's not content free, there's precious little in this book to differentiate it from all the other gambling books out there. And who knows who the author is.The name is either unfortunate or obviously made up.

If I'd ever read a gambling book worth the money, I'd name it here. But I still haven't.Good luck. ... Read more
