Hilarious
Joy in Mudville is an excellent book that takes humorous articles from varioius authors and joins them to create one book.The selections are hilarious(especially one using Abbot and Costello's classic Who's on First routine with real names and players) and include comic strips, poems, magazine articles and excerpts from books all joined together by comments from editor Dick Schaap.The book is an easy read that can be enjoyed by sports fans of all ages, it should be in any sports fans collection. ... Tell it like it is
Let's face it, this book is not great literature, it's a list.Of sports cliches.And, if you're amused by all things sports, as I am, you'll like this book.It arranges them by sport and other topics (business, money, parts of the body) and I got a chuckle out of it.I admit I'd never heard some of them before, but most of them feel "like home."My young son enjoyed it as he wasn't familiar with a lot of the cliches and we spent an afternoon going thru the book together.

Above the Rim
Just as the sports cliche "they came in well prepared" goes, I'm gonna be ready for any lull in the game.My friends and me can use the book to see how many basketball cliches have been used already in the game.

Great book
My husband and I really enjoyed reading through this book.As hockey fans, we especially enjoyed that section.We've been missing the NHL season and it was great to get back in the game again.I would highly recommend this book for any other NHL fans out there experiencing withdrawl symtoms!

I bought this book as a gift for a friend who is a "sports nut".He loved it.He said it took him back to his youth when he first became aware of how common cliches were.He sat down with his wife and had fun explaining what many of the cliches meant and his recollections about where they came from.I will remember this book and purchase it again for other sports fans I know. ... Marginal Book of Fact and some Errors
Some dull facts and trivia about a variety of sports, mostly covering alot of English and Olympic sports. However I have discovered a few mistakes within the book, most of them are wrong years.

You can't make this stuff up
Hiassen hits it again and doesn't call FORE and the book hits you fully in the funny zone.If you play golf or not this book will put you on the floor laughing at his shenanigans.I'm a newbie at the sport and dang, he's dead on with every word.If you've never lost every last ounce of human dignity, play golf but read this book first so you know what to expect.Ignore the frogs...

the downhill lie
The book was very entertaining and was all that Carl Hiaasen is noted for.I have read all of his books and this one was just as entertaining as all the others.I would recommend it to all the golfers out there..

I was thinking I was getting one of Carl Hiaasen's great books of the past.I'm not a golfer and don't understand the terms for golf.He can sometime's be a very complex writter, in this one he truly is.I wish I would have gotten a different book.
