Product Description

Every morning more than three million listeners tune in to Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio—mostly to hear the Mikes’ (Golic and Greenberg) riotous back-and-forth on everything from why baseball managers should dress like real people to how to lose a fight with the wife with dignity. In Mike and Mike’s Rules for Sports and Life, the beloved mic jockeys put their unique stamp on, well, the rules for sports and life. In years on the road, in the studio, and at home, Greeny and Golic have learned that it’s all about the big stuff: separating order from chaos, ensuring our survival as a species, and keeping peace. If you’re one of Golic and Greeny’s legions of followers, you probably can’t get enough of this sort of provocative, hilarious, and occasionally obsessive stuff. And if you’re one of those fans who live by the rule “There oughta be a rule,” then Mike and Mike’s Rules for Sports and Life is the audio book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars LIVING in the Mountain TIme zone, I still wake up each morning to "MIKE and MIKE" on ESPN-2 @ 4 o'clock.
THANKS TO A "ghost writer" who has captured 'the spirit' of this morning must watch T-V program on ESPN-"The DUECE"- I STILL LOOK FORWARD TO A "book signing" near me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed At All
First, let me tell you that I love Mike & Mike and eagerly awaited the publication of their book.I even preordered it from Amazon.I'm sorry I did.

The format is confusing and difficult to read.It is more of a compilation of their conversations and rehashes old material.Nothing is new or exciting.I haven't even been able to read the whole book because it is so difficult to tolerate the haphazard format. The material is not interesting.

Save your money and borrow it from someone (like me) who foolishly bought it sight unseen.Save your time and just watch or listen to Mike & Mike.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fan of show but
I like their show and listen regularly. This book though is a disappointment. If I'd paid for it, I'd be furious but it was free at the library.Essentially it's a collection of transcripts from their show gathered ostensibly around "rules for life and sports".Thematically, the effort doesn't hold water as the rules are basically glossed over and only marginally relate to the discussion being transcribed. Also, what's charming and entertaining as a radio conversation just comes across as flat and pointless in book form.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like the show - between covers
I bought this book for my husband for Father's Day. He's a big Mike & Mike fan. He loved the book. Great written banter between the guys and interesting backstage and personal insights into their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I ordered this book for my husband and he loves it.It is full of photos and interesting info for sports fans.It is Mike and Mike's opinions on how sports applies or reflects on life.He has not read it through yet but has liked what he has already read.He recommends it to sports fans. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible and unfunny
Please don't waste your time. The author isn't funny and the book is just lame. I caught myself inaudibly groaning every other page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious stuff if you are a Sportspickle fan
Personally I think DJ Gallo is one of the best things to happen to sports "journalism."I find just about everything he writes about sports to be downright hilarious. This book is no different. If you are a big sports fan in general (rather than just a fan of one team in one sport), then you will likely find this to be very enjoyable.

I mention that qualifier because if you are not aware of certain things in sports (e.g. the Yankees being willing to pay anyone who has played a good game $100mm) then you might not find the jokes as funny.Look at the jokes on the cover and see if you like them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny Stuff
Wow, the last reviewer, C. Irwin must be a huge Ray Lewis fan......
Anyway, this book is great.A hilarious take on sports.A must buy if you are a fan of Barbaro, or Ray Lewis, aka "God's Linebacker."

1-0 out of 5 stars DOUCHE
DJ Gallo is the biggest DOUCHE ever.Come on the guy wears Turtlenecks.DOUCHE

5-0 out of 5 stars The View from the Upper Deck is all Laughs
When I've had a bad day, I know I can count on DJ's writing to make me laugh out loud. This book was worth double what I paid for it!If you're a DJ Gallo fan, this is a must-have. ... Read more

Product Description
CHICAGO SPORTS A FIFTY YEAR LOVE AFFAIR- My book is a compilation of the sports achievements from the most talented athletes and teams that passed through the Chicago landscape. As a Chicago fan, I was the fortunate one, the recipient of their success. Our teams had some of the greatest players of all time, and let's not forget the brilliant announcers that spun each game with enthusiasm. There were none better than the likes of our own Jack Brickhouse and Harry Caray. From childhood through adulthood, they captured my heart and mind... Author:Chris Papas

Whether you look through my Irish/Italian eyes,or the passion in the Greek eyes of Chris, we are simply proud Chicago fans. This terrific book covers fifty years of that fan hood. The anticipation, the thrills, and yes the heartaches are all in there. The book is filled with fun facts, statistics, and personal recollections. These stories create an interesting mix for the sports fan and trivia buff... Foreward By:Tom Dreesen

This book captures the essence of what it means to be a true Chicago sports fan. From the joy and heartbreak of following the Chicago Cubs, to the allure and angst that come from annually believing in the Chicago Bears, Bulls and White Sox, this is a genuine perspective from a life-long observer... Fred Mitchell,Chicago Tribune

This is an honest and heartfelt account of a life "in the trenches"as a Chicago sports fan. They're a hardy, resilient breed, coming back for more even though they know they're likely to experience more heartbreak than happiness. Chris Papas is an excellent spokesman for them. Dan McGrath, Chicago Tribune

It's no secret that pro athletes cheat. But how exactly do they do it? Original interviews with former professional athletes and coaches reveal step-by-step instructions and technical drawings on how to throw a spitball, become an unblockable linebacker, foul a jumpshooter without getting caught, and other ways to gain an advantage over opponents. Hilarious accounts from insiders place these trade secrets in context, divulging what really happens in baseball, football, basketball, NASCAR, hockey, and even bowling, horseshoes, and kickball. When athletes say they give 110%, How to Cheat in Sports explains the extra 10%. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, insightful & surprising
I was surprised by how ubiquitous cheating is in pro sports, but Scott Ostler names names and gives step-by-step instructions on how it's done. Pretty useful for pick-up game players who can now identify the sneaky ways that opponents might try to get the best of them.He covers football, basketball, baseball [bat corking is real!], bowling, even golf and water polo. Where does it end? Not kickball, he's got a cheat for that, too. Oh and horseshoes for cryin' out loud. :)
A fun book to read and Scott's writing is humorous and engaging. Rick Reilly's foreword is a hoot.

Oh and.. shame on you, Bill Romanowski, shame! [find out about his cheats in the football chapter].

5-0 out of 5 stars A darkly entertaining read for our darkly entertaining times
You don't need a trainer named Anderson to inject you with 'roids in order to cheat in sports. For as long as there has been sport, there has been cheating. In fact, some historians believe cheating predates sport by several hundred millennia. In any case, this book contains tips from some of the finest athletes to ever give themselves a bit of a competitive edge - from Bill Romanowski to Charles Barkley. It exposes many lesser-known sports cheats that athletes have been using for decades to get ahead (like how to win a jump ball), and details exactly how more commonly known cheats are performed (like how to cork a bat). The book is more than just the anarchist's cookbook to pulling a fast one on the refs or umpires, however, fusing a timely topic with some genuinely funny commentary to create a wonderful alchemy of information and sarcasm. The perfect bedtime read! ... Product Description
As a serious player, a high handicapper, or simply a baffled onlooker to the awesome nonsense that is golf, have you ever wondered why, say, the golf balls have dimples, and the tee is both the thing you stick in the ground and the place you hit from, and the hole is so small, and the courses have all these big pits full of sand where any sane person would put grass?

Well, so did noted humor writer and avid hacker Henry Beard, who brought twenty-first-century computer search-engine technology to bear on this thousand-year-old game, tapping the internet's inherent capacity to confer a thin veneer of authenticity to far-fetched accounts of great moments in the history of golf, warped portraits of its legendary players, and fanciful conjectures about its origins and evolution.

Employing an easy-to-read and simple-to-fudge timeline format, he chronicles the amazing process through which this screwy pastime with wacky equipment and loony rules played for penny wagers by a bunch of bored-silly shepherds was gradually transformed into a screwy sport with wacky equipment and loony rules played for million-dollar purses by superstar athletes.

As he peers through the mists of time to the birthplace of the game, Beard resolves once and for all its many mysteries, like where those weird-looking pants came from, when the fi rst telling of the "Hit, drag Harry" joke was, what a Stimpmeter is, and who dreamed up the idea of those stupid blimps.

Here, then, in one convenient golf-bag-side-pocket-sized volume is a rich, wildly embroidered, ludicrously embellished tapestry of colorful fabrications and highly entertaining but thoroughly dubious speculations that tell the tall tale of golf -- the game that deranged the world. ... Read more

Product Description
Being included in this "hall of shame" is a dubious honor, but countless fans of professional football, basketball, and baseball are sure to make this book a star player.

As the fan base for professional sports rabidly seeks to score news on the most famous-or most infamous-athletes, reports of outrageous, shocking, and even disturbing behavior from the players have skyrocketed.

Spoiled Sports: Comical and Disturbing Stories of the 21st Century is an entertaining expose of the funniest and most shameful behavior by professional athletes. The stories chronicle professional athletes' most amusing, unusual, undignified, and unethical criminal escapades.

The book, by first-time author and sports fanatic Garret Kolb, features 38 recent accounts of ridiculous and shameful athlete behavior, along with a detailed list of today's 38 worst offenders (the "Ingrate 38"), according to both courts of law and public opinion. A 38-question quiz rounds out the compilation and tests the reader's knowledge of sports players and their on- and off-the-field shenanigans.

Included are such misadventures and mishaps as:

* Green Bay Packer Najeh Davenport is arrested after defecating in the laundry basket of an unsuspecting coed.

* A minor-league baseball game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, is delayed while Boston Red Sox Manny Ramirez searches the field for his lost diamond earring.

These and dozens of other stories are sure to hit a home run with legions of sports fans. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Who knew sports could be so funny?!
This is a great compendium of funny and embarrassing stories involving some of the biggest athletes of the past few years. I'm a sports fan, but not as rabid as most - so I hadn't heard a lot of these stories. Written by a newspaper columnist, it was an enjoyable read and full of fun facts. For a fictional, humorous book that imagines a solution to athlete's outrageous behavior by mandating educational seminars, check out Robert Gussin's TRASH TALK. It's as equally hilarious as the real thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any sports lover with a sense of humor.
As a big fan of The Onion style humor, this book really delivered for me. Its sports spoofs are right on and completely hilarious. The photos and ads make the parodies look so real, adding to the fun absurdity of the book. I loved it! If you're a big sports humor guy like I am, I would also recommend Robert Gussin's TRASH TALK. It's a pretty new and really funny fiction book that imagines an accidental pairing up professional athletes and environmentalists. Sounds wacky - and it is. In the best way possible! Check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book makes Bone of Pig proud
When I saw that this book had come out, I immediately thought, "Ooh, Leyritz!"Unfortunately there were no appearances from the lovable bald catcher, but there are plenty of humorous stories to both make you laugh and provoke fond memories of your favorite sports memories. It's a perfect blend of sports-insider humor and witty comments on society at large (see the guest appearances from Noam Chomsky and Joyce Carol Oates and the frequent "corrections").Definitely buy this book -- you won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
This book is very cleverly done. It's very accessible to sports fans and even if you're not, the snippets are hilarious. My wife sometimes scoffs at my obsession with sports but when I read her some of the pieces aloud, she was cracking up.
