Book Description
New Mexico is an angler’s delight. It has more than a thousand miles of fishable creeks, streams, and rivers and almost a quarter-million surface acres of lakes and reservoirs. This book is a complete guide to fishing in all of these waters.

Over two hundred public, private, and Indian reservation-fishing areas are covered. From the state’s two best-known fishing areas—the San Juan river and Elephant Butte Reservoir—to all of the waters associated with the state’s ten drainages, this book provides detailed information for each site on location, size, depth, shoreline description, fish species, suggested angling techniques, seasonal fishing reports, road access, camping and boating facilities, and handicapped accessibility.

This book is sure to become indispensable to two types of anglers: beginners, young and old, who want to take up the sport, and veterans—including newcomers to the state—who seek up-to-date information on all species of coldwater and warm water sport fish in New Mexico.

Key to fishing waters. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of where and how to fish New Mexico.
New Mexico has more opportunities than one would imagine for fishing a desert state. However, one typically needs a little help finding the water.Piper's book covers nearly every possible fishing lake, stream, and river in New Mexico with valuable tips on when and how to fish each body of water.Well-organized into the major river drainages, Piper also provides basic maps for each area. The writing is clear and helpful. The only drawback is that the book is now slightly old and some of the details are out of date (access points have closed, new lakes have appeared, etc.).Perhaps a new edition is in the works. The maps could also be a little better, presently they are somewhat cartoonish.Overall, however, this is the best guide to fishing New Mexico. ... Book Description
New Haven professional hockey has a long and storied history that dates back to 1926, when the Eagles were an inaugural team in the Canadian-American Hockey League. Nine professional ice hockey teams have called New Haven home, first in the New Haven Arena and later in the New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Sadly, New Haven’s long run in professional hockey ended after the 2001–2002 season. There were many talented players over the years, including Frank Beisler, Emile Francis, Don Perry, Ron Rohmer, John Brophy, Chico Resch, Tom Colley, Frank “Never” Beaton, Hubie McDonough, Peter Worrell, and Glenn Stewart. Hockey in New Haven is the story of the players, coaches, and teams that entertained generations of fans in the Elm City. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good memories
Enjoyed this very much. It not only provided a history of hockey in New Haven but it provided me great memories of what I saw growing up as well as my and my families involvement with the Nighthawks. My whole family and some hockey friends have a copy now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Feedback
Thank you all for the great support. We believe we put out a great book something for anyone who ever set foot in the New Haven Arena or the New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This book will bring back great memories and make them last forever

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Minor League Hockey History -Well done, Great pictures!
Having followed New Haven Hockey since the early 1970s, I was very pleased to find this book. It is very well done. It is loaded with photos, more than most sports books I have read. The history of hockey in New Haven is carefully laid out by the authors and their passion for the game shows in the accompanying text. What makes this book amazing is its incredible depth and the fact that it is the most complete book on a minor league hockey in any city ever done. I highly recommend this book to those with fond memories of hockey in New Haven, either of the New Haven Blades, Nighthawks , Beast or Knights and as a nice gift item for hockey coaches in the area. In my area this book already has incredible buzz with book signings and events in the news and many dedicated fans and hockey players supporting the effort. It is good to see that all that many of us remember has been documented for others to see.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heather ROCKS! as an author
This is the best book about Hockey that I have EVER read!I am a HUGE hockey fan and the author's did such an incredible job with this. I am excited about meeting the authors at the book signing on October 25th at Barnes and Noble in North Haven. Its about time someone captured the TRUE game of hockey!Heather you ROCK!!from your dedicated fans... ... Book Description
The relationship between sports and the media raises numerous issues and problems. This book outlines the current major policy concerns relating to the commercialization of sports broadcasting rights.

What is the impact of marketing arrangements between content owners and media companies - a combination of joint selling with exclusivity - on fans, big-city and small-city clubs, TV markets, and finally on consumer welfare? Do consumers in Europe and the USA receive good value for the fees they pay to broadcasters? And does the way programs are delivered to the viewers (free-to-air, pay-TV or pay-per-view) have a positive or negative influence on the deal consumers receive? These are some of the central issues discussed within this book by the international team of contributors.

Providing a comprehensive view on the relations between the sports media rights market, the sports market and the different partakers in the process (club, leagues, events organizers, TV operators, intellectual property owners), this book will be of great interest to academics and sports economists alike. With its clear and simple presentation, The Economics of Sport and the Media will also be accessible to sport federations, leagues, clubs, and policy makers at governmental and non-governmental agencies. ... Book Description
Strike one! Strike two! Strike....no, they're not out. They're playing. But among the truisms of baseball, we offer three. One is that kids have always kept on playing, no matter what the pros do. The second is that the cartoonists of The New Yorker have kept on hitting home runs with their funny and insightful looks at all aspects of baseball. The third is that, year in and year out, baseball fans and devotees step up to the plate (and the cash registers) at bookstores to buy books on the most cerebral of team sports. With cartoons spanning eight decades, this collection includes work from many of The New Yorker's most beloved cartoonists (clearly devoted fans, with maybe a heckler or two thrown in for spice). An All-Star lineup featuring Arnie Levin, Jack Ziegler, George Price, Robert Mankoff, Danny Shanahan, and Charles Barsotti are all on deck for this book, which is sure to hit a grand slam with every baseball fan--and fanatic! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Ok, but way dated
Many of the gags are good, a few are belly-laughers, but overall this collection is full of old-timey jokes -- men in fedoras type of jokes.Funny, I guess, but hasn't anyone at New Yorker done a gag about baseball in the past 50 years?C'mon, there are baseball fans under the age of 50.

5-0 out of 5 stars More home runs than Barry Bonds
I love baseball as much as I love a good joke, so this collection was a "double" for me. Being a New Yorker collection, a few cartoons are Yankee-specific, and the Mets are lightly ribbed, but any baseball fan will appreciate this look at the sport's many sides. My favorite cartoon shows a player telling the media, "Hey, I'm just happy to be making an obscene amount of money." If only real players were that honest!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Yankee Fan's Delight!
The New Yorker Book of Baseball Cartoons benefits (or suffers) from (depending on your fan allegiance) having a Bronx perspective on the sport. For Yankee fans, this will be a four-star book. With cartoons from over eight decades, many of the cartoons harken back to baseball as it was . . . rather than how it is now.Somehow, that didn't work as nostalgia for me.I have to assume that The New Yorker has a more recent selection of cartoons on this subject that could have captured the contemporary game better . . . but there are too few of those. As a result, many cartoons are sources of curiosity rather than humor.

I did find myself laughing in a few places. Here are some of the better efforts:

A woman stands over a man watching a baseball game on television and says, "Oh, no!Not already!"That reminds me of my wife's reaction when I turn on the first preseason football game every summer.

A happy woman speaks to her scowling male escort as they reach their seats in full stands, "See, Grouchy? We haven't missed a thing--the score is still nothing to nothing."As you can see, the battle of the sexes is a frequent topic in the book.

In "The First Straw" a groom turns to his bride as they drive away from the church and asks, "Mind if I put on the game?"

A woman watching a game on television speaks to a man as he returns to the room, "I think you missed something. The ball went up into the air and somebody caught it and the crowd's yelling like mad."

With no caption, you see a sign in the outfield that says "Hit This Sign and Abe Feldman will give you A SUIT absolutely free" as an outfielder catches a fly ball while being shadowed by a man in a suit and hat . . . and two gloves.

The umpires take some kidding . . . and give some out.As one ump comments to the batter, "I don't think I'd say anything about eyesight if I had your batting average."

A wealthy matron smiles at two of the players while speaking to a manager of the Yankees, "Sometimes we sell them, lady, but only to other teams."

A father speaks to his son who is praying, "Never mind mentioning all twenty-five of them.Just 'God bless the Mets' will do."

Two men are behind home plate in the stands. One of them is behind a tall beam. The other one says, "High inside. Ball three.Count is now three balls and two strikes. Here comes the pitch."

A gondolier in Venice has on a baseball uniform. He says, "I was sent down to the minors and from there to Europe, and one thing just led to another."

Unfortunately, I didn't leave out very many of the best ones. Most didn't even make me crack a smile.

As usual, there is no introduction.Surely, Yogi Berra could have been pressed into duty for such an obvious application of his well-known wit and wisdom.

Play ball!!

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2*Fields of Ink
This is a funny and wryly amusing collection of 100 baseball cartoons that first appeared in "The New Yorker."Although illustrators are credited, no dates are given.(This would have been helpful in discerning which jokes are relatively old, and which just sound old.) Some of the material is fairly trite, deriding such easy targets as umpires and over zealous fans. Most of them are quite funny though, including a picture of seven infielders gathered close to home as one fan explains to another "They expect him to bunt," and another showing an umpire pondering how to call a play with a wonderful Jack Benny-like expression and the equally Benny-esque caption "I'm thinking!" (with 'thinking' underlined).

A major problem is the formatting, all the `toons are given equal size, and hence equal weight. A number of these are just "throwaway" jokes, pictures and captions without much weight or originality. As a small illustration added--like a condiment--to a large text, these are appropriately lightweight and amusing, but as large pictures they don't compare to the more creative and funnier efforts here. After a while, the similarities begin to inoculate you against the humor. A better format might have been to present these in the size in which they originally appeared. However, this would make a good gift for baseball fans and those who live with them.Overall, it's an excellent coffee table book that doesn't take up the whole coffee table.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humorous home runs and base hits - no strikeouts!
Everyone will find favorites in this collection, whether they are about kids and baseball or overpaid, over-egoed pros. One favorite part for me is the running motif of umpire jokes. The New Yorker's cartoonists are simply the best. I loved The New Yorker Book of Golf Cartoons, but this is even better. ... Read more

Book Description
The signs of the sports apocalypse are everywhere: Terrell Owens roams our streets a free man, the U.S. Congress is sampling sluggers’ urine tests; and worst of all, Americans are starting to take bicycle racing and soccer seriously. So who dares to step into the breach that separates sport from madness? The intrepid news team of The Brushback, the Internet’s most trusted and honored sports journal.*

For intelligent fans (and by that, we mean those who read books–or at least the back covers) who are fed up with end-zone celebrations, inane sportscasters, luxury boxes, and eleven-dollar bleacher dogs, The Brushback Report will be chin-music to your ears. So put down the remote, Sparky, and pick up this book to get the real stories behind the hottest news headlines of our times:

“Nation’s Jobless Receive Emergency Airlift of Madden 2006”
“WNBA Players Give Up Trying to Be Sexy”
“Hockey Surpassed in Popularity by Air Hockey”
“New Girlfriend Weirded Out by Derek Jeter Fanpage”
“Team with Lots of Heart Beaten by Team with Lots of Money”

There’s no sporting cliché too trite and no inspiring story too corny to lampoon. From team owners on down to the guy who pirates Wrestlemania off cable TV, nothing or no one is spared the Brushback treatment. Hilarious and defiantly politically incorrect, The Brushback Report gives us the world of sports in all its demented glory.

* Not really. We’re just pumping up our stats before the start of contract renegotiations. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Funny
For anyone who hasn't visited [...] this book is an excellent introduction.Even though it's a rather thin book I found it worked best for me when I read only two or three entries at a time.A lot of the humor would be lost if one tried to go through it in one sitting. All in all a very light enjoyable read.Highly reccomend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not just for sports fans
You don't have to be a sports fan to enjoy this book. It does help if you read newspapers or magazines, watch television news, or work with people who actually talk about sports and use lame sports metaphors in meetings you are forced to attend. It's pretty hard not to have heard of most of the sports and some of the people who perpetrate them. I say all this because I once tried to encourage a friend to watch a show called, "Home Improvement." She refused for 2 years because she thought it was about tools. This is not a "Sports Report" any more than Tim Taylor and "Tool Time" were really about improving the home.

My favorite headlines from the Brushback report include:

FEMA Mistakenly Descends on Miami Hurricanes Game
Hunter Proud of Outsmarting Elk
Stoned Person Finds Himself Watching Figure Skating
NFL Collapses After Nation Gets Its Priorities Straight
Free Agent Narrows Choices Down to Whichever Team Has the Most Money
Referee Forced to Sit Through Fox Promos Before Viewing Replay

The book is excellent throughout. If one thing doesn't amuse, there's another less than an inch away. The website is consistently hilarious. I'd give it 5 stars if Amazon would let me correct my error in clicking on four. It's a 5. Really.

5-0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS!
My favorite headlines from this book: BLACK NASCAR DRIVER PULLED OVER DURING RACE and HOCKEY SURPASSED IN POPULARITY BY AIR HOCKEY.

I'd recommend this book to you if 1) You stay up to watch the 2:30 a.m. edition of Sportscenter even though it's a repeat of the one you saw at 10. 2) You love your Playstation more than your girlfriend 3) You love the Onion and the Onion compilations.

This is a witty, irreverent book of satire that may occasionally cut a bit close to the bone for the more sensitive among us. But then, they won't be reading it in the first place. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Book Description
"Fred Lebow was a dreamer, the kind of dreamer who pursued his dream and made it a reality. And the world is still reaping the rewards." So begins this uplifting chronicle of a humbly born Holocaust survivor who parlayed natural marketing smarts - and a vision - into a major position in recent American sports. He started the New York City Marathon, an event that transformed footracing from an elite, austere sport into a wildly applauded, attainable pursuit.

Forging a path across the city's five boroughs, the Marathon covers a daunting 26.2-mile course. Ron Rubin's fascinating book tells how Lebow popularized the race. With a stroke of marketing wizardry he turned it into the world's largest block party: a gritty mix of urban theater and kindly entrepreneurship. It honored the spirit of the moment, imbued competition with joy, and celebrated play. In so doing, it put winning within the realm of every man and woman became a race for all runners. Lebow mainstreamed the notion of marathoning into popular culture; some half million Americans now run marathons. Finally, the book describes how Lebow scored his greatest personal victory by racing in the marathon he had created even after being diagnosed with brain cancer. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars some print issues
Book was received right away. It was a new copy, but the print on some of the pages is too light to read.

2-0 out of 5 stars editor, please!
While the subject is quiet interesting, the book is poorly written and edited. The author keeps on repeating himself over and over and over and over again. And again. One is reminded of college papers where a student is stretching a 2 page point over 10 pages to fulfill the length requirement, constantly restating the same thought with synonymous nouns and adjectives.Could have been a much more fun 150 page read with some good editing, or a great 10 page New Yorker article. The book does improve in the second half.

5-0 out of 5 stars From One Who Knew Fred Lebow Well

"ANYTHING for a T-Shirt" captures Fred's character as an artist might do with a brush and paint. While describing Fred's life, the author delves into his motivation and goals. He skillfully shows how Fred Lebow, an immigrant from Romania, progresses to developing the most exciting mass participation sporting event in the world.

If you run, read this book! This is the best book ever written on Fred Lebow and marathon running.

5-0 out of 5 stars From the Editor
I got to "meet" Fred Lebow and learn about his creation of the New York City Marathon and his impact on the world of distance running while working with author Ron Rubin's extensive material. "Fred Lebow was a dreamer...the kind of dreamer who pursued his dream and made it a reality. And today, more than thirty years later, the world is still reaping the rewards of his vision and hard work.... Fred Lebow's life was [truly] a story just waiting--and deserving--to be told." -- From the book's Preface.

Exactly what Fred's vision was and how he worked to bring it to fruition--the history of the marathoning culture as we know it today--is developed in the first 11 chapters of the book.

> According to KATHRINE SWITZER, who knew Lebow well:
"Lebow's lifetime creation, the New York City Marathon, parallels his life story, and nobody's told it better than Ron Rubin in 'Anything for a T-Shirt...'. Rubin shows us how this modest but complex man, who was himself exhilarated with the transforming effects of fitness, took an obscure footrace and turned it into an extravagant festival that brought joy to the world's most glamorous and competitive city and attracted millions of everyday people to distance running. It is a case study in sports marketing, event management and psychology..."

The remainder of the book is dedicated to the heartwarming story of Lebow's struggle with cancer and his momentous first running of his own marathon in 1992 -- a cancer survivor accompanied by a host of friends led by Grete Waitz.

> SWITZER's review of these final chapters states:
"The book's climax is superb, reeling the reader up very dramatically, day by day, then mile by mile. Rubin pulls no punches as to how Fishl-the name I always called him and the one he would return to before he died-ran in his own creation for the first time, between bouts with the brain cancer that eventually took him from us, on guts and will.'Anything' paints a vivid picture of Lebow's inherent survival determination, heard from a dozen concerned voices in his entourage. While the whole book is well-written, this chapter is dazzling."

As Dick Traum wrote in his amazon review, "If you run, read this book!" As a non-runner who had never heard of Fred Lebow before working with the book, I can add:

"EVEN IF YOU DON'T RUN, read this book." I came to know both Fred & Fishl through the eyes of the 120-plus people Dr. Rubin interviewed and the numerous authors of articles and stories written during Lebow's illustrious life and in his memory. His life is an uplifting story of hope and inspiration.

Everything I've heard so far indicates that this book is truly the inspiring, motivating & heartwarming tribute to Fred Lebow that Ron Rubin set out to create. A relatively non-athletic, academic-type university professor, Rubin is himself one of the millions of middle- and back-of-the-pack runners who would have never considered attempting a marathon had it not been for Lebow's "creation." He wound up running NY six times!

I look forward to reading what YOU think -- about my review and about the book! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The photos are a shame... :o(
This book is enough accurate in information and stats. But most photos published there are too dark and with texture like they were photocopied from newspapers.
I found photos with... details turned inverse... lefty people turned to righty people. :o(
The '69 Mets deserved a very well crafted book. This book here clearly isn't.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced,poorly done. A shame,really
The New York Mets of 1969 are forever etched into images of sun dappled youth. I cam to baseball through the mets, and 1969 was just that special year, like falling in love the first time. So for mets fans[who have had far more to moan than cheer] this team is emblamtic of all that was, and was good. this book, which I frevently wishedwas good, is not. The sports writing form that era in the NY daily news{from whose morgue these writings and mostly photos are culled]was not bad, though not nearly enough is presented. No Boxscores, very little on what was going on around the city[which, after all, was one of things that made the mets so much fun]and alot of skimming. For $30, the publishers could have done much, much more. The portraits of some mets done by Bruce Stark, and the wonderful Bill Gallo cartoons almost make up for the disappoinment.I left wanting more, much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful time for baseball
This is a simply wonderful trip down memory lane, and the forward by the always classy Ed Kranepool only adds to the fun. Miss this one at your own risk! ... Read more

This book is about a boy who goes by the name of Mac who plays on the school's soccer team. This boy likes to play soccer and he plays as the goalie.Mac kept finding cartoons in the paper that were making fun of him. At the end of the season the cougars had won the championship game in soccer. The part that I liked the most in this book was when the cougars won the championship game for the school. The part that I didn't like the most was the cartoons in the papers that were making fun of Mac in the book. The effects on this book made me want to read more books on this author.I recommend this book to kids of the age of 10-13 who like sports a lot.

I have read many books that I enyojed but when I read Soccer Scoop I couldn't think of a better book. Soccer Scoop is one of the best books and also it's written by one of my favorite authors,Matt Christoper. This book is about a boy named Mac who's the best goalie of the season and one day when he was going to school with his friend Doggie, that is his friend all of a sudden when they entered the school everybody started making fun of Mac. The author Matt Christoper sets the scene at the soccer field where a loy of mac;s games go on. He also set's the scene at Mac's school where Mac found out that someone was making fun fo him,and also the bus where mac found out something about the cartoonst. So my suggestion to you is you should read Soccer Scoop because it's a really good book.

Book Description
A compelling adventure of a very poor, gawky girl who chooses an after school activity that leads her to the Olympics. Sharon grew up in the South Bronx and learned the sport of fencing in high school to avoid the terror of her neighborhood street life. The book describes her transformation from a young, lonely girl into a powerful champion through hard training and determination. As a fencing champion, Sharon combines the reflexes of a boxer, the legs of a high-jumper and the concentration of a chess player. Destined to be great, her natural talent and hard work led her to National and World championships and three Olympic teams. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An inspiring little book.
With all the awful stories surfacing today dealing with modern athletes, we finally have a sports story to inspire youngsters --especially girls. Sharon Monplaisir is a true role model for our times. Kids should read this book. As the author of "The Art and Science of Fencing" and "The Inner Game of Fencing," and the editor-in-chief of FENCERS QUARTERLY MAGAZINE,I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Role Model
What a wonderful, engaging, multifaceted book for adolescent girls.....and boys!Sharon Monplaisir's biography takes the reader through a wide range of emotions. The spirit and drive within Sharon's soul, from the depths of poverty to that as an Olympian, is an inspiration to us all.Anyone who has wanted to find a better life, but experienced doubt, and struggled to "fit in", can find hope within Sharon's many struggles. A noteworthy and heartwarming part of the book was when Sharon, representing the Women's Sports Foundation on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, addressed an auditorium of middle school aged boys and girls.

A component of the book also worth its "weight in gold",is the section called "Sports Talk", which is meant to be an interactive platform for readers and their parents, teaches and coaches. It contains excellent research-based information and thought provoking questions for readers relating to issues of girls participating in sport, within the context of the book.

This would be a terrific book to use in a middle school program, where integration of English, Social Studies, Physical Education, and Technology are sought. ... Read more

Amazon.com
Dr. Andrew Feldman has been where you may be: he's had enough athletic injuries to sideline any team of recreational athletes--torn ligaments, a separated shoulder, broken fingers, a dozen -itises--he even broke his nose twice (once while lifting weights, he's not too embarrassed to admit). That's just a small fraction of what he's seen while wearing the white coat, but it still helped lead him to this somewhat reassuring hypothesis: 90 percent of all sports injuries are the same. That is, the pattern of damage and the recovery rate are entirely predictable. You think it's unique because it has happened to you, but in reality it's something an experienced sports-medicine doctor has seen lots of times.

So Feldman's book takes you through each sports-injury zone--shoulders, back, knees and elbows, ankles and wrists, hands and feet--and presents a systematic way to get through all the possible problems until you figure out which one applies to you. He explains the treatments you might receive if the injury is sufficiently serious to warrant medical attention, and what's involved in the rehab process, including stretches and strengthening exercises.

Feldman also makes sure you're entertained along the way, sharing personal experiences and cracking jokes. You'll laugh through the tears caused by whatever injury brought you to this book in the first place. --Lou SchulerBook Description
The Jock Doc's Body Repair Kit combines a lively armchair tour of the human anatomy with tons of sane and step-by-step advice on preventing and treating sports-related injuries--from neck to toes.Andrew Feldman, M.D., Director of Sports Medicine at New York's St. Vincent's Hospital, is an avid athlete who knows the discomfort and frustration of all kinds of injuries firsthand.Of the thousands of patients he treats each year, many of them, says Dr. Feldman, could have avoided worry and expense with just a little information on how to safely diagnose and treat injuries at home. Here, he distills over fifteen years of medical (and personal!) experience into this user-friendly, utterly reliable, and often humorous guide that takes the white coat pomposity out of sports medicine and gets you back into the game.

The Jock Doc's Body Repair Kit is essential for any athlete who shoots hoops, hits the slopes, hangs ten, or anything in between.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new under the sky
This book presents a mixture of information and factoids that most people should already know from all the information commonly available today. Most of it stems from common sense and the rest you should have gotten from your physician.
I did not get much out of this book.

If you expect to find some revolutionary therapy in this book, save your money.
Nonetheless, since this book is currently available at very low prices, it may be worth having just because it is written in a clear and entertaining style and maybe useful as a supplementary source of information.

If you have serious physical concerns, this book IS NO substitute for a visit to a good specialist.

This book is definitely NOT a "Body Repair Kit"

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
He's good at putting medical terminology is plain English, and the muscle diagrams are very clear. But he doesn't cover all areas of the body, and seems to cover only common aliments. The appendices are very good, and the rehab exercises are very easy to understand. But the rest of the book is hard to sort through. For more detail, I prefer 'The Sports Medicine Bible' by Lyle Micheli.

5-0 out of 5 stars user friendly
This book has an extremely tender bedside manner; it manages to be both intelligent and humorous without condescension.A well-written guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Overall the book is great. However he does not indicate if his rehab exercises should be done even if they cause pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars An actual patient
Although I have not yet purchased this book (I am right now!) I have become a huge believer as of today. I left St Vincent's hospital less than 6 hours ago after Dr. Feldman performed Shoulder Arthroscopy on me to helpcorrect a repetitive injury.

I did not even know he was a writer as well, until EVERY HOSPITAL STAFF MEMBER commented to me how he is truly the bestin the business from New York. I feel truly lucky and blessed that I foundthe perfect surgeon to help me heal.

Once I finish reading the book, Iwill write a review on more than just the man's skills & helpfulinsight. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great table piece, doesn't tell the whole story
For Patriot fans the 2001 season was a fairy tale...thus it's hard to sum it up in an 120 page book with lots of pictures.

But this book is still a must have...just for those classic pictures, and for Michael Felger's brilliant work...though he said the Pats were not as good as the Colts until after the AFC Title Game. But still the best writer in the City by Far. ... Read more

Book Description
When Tim Mara paid $500 in 1925 for New York's first professional football franchise, and named the team after the city's beloved baseball Giants, he could hardly have imagined that the end of the century would see his team replace the baseball nine as New York's favorite Giants.

Over the past 75 years, few teams in all of professional football have matched the celebrated history of the New York Giants. The Giants have played in more NFL championship games than any other franchise, winning titles in 1927, 1934, 1938, and the 1987 and 1991 Super Bowls; have finished first in their division more often (19 seasons) than any other NFL team; and are second only to the Chicago Bears in the number of regular season games won (531) since 1925.

Along with these victories, Giant fans have seen some of the greatest players ever suit up for a football game. From Jim Thorpe's brief, three-game career with New York in the inaugural 1925 season to All-Century players Mel Hein of the 1930s, Roosevelt Brown of the 1950s, and Lawrence Taylor of the 1980s, the Giants have placed nearly two dozen players, coaches, and owners in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Great names like Tim and Wellington Mara, Steve Owen, Tuffy Leemans, Kyle Rote, Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly, Emlen Tunnell, Andy Robustelli, Sam Huff, Alex Webster, Y.A. Tittle, Fran Tarkenton, Ron Johnson, Phil Simms, Bill Parcells, Carl Banks, Joe Morris, Rodney Hampton, and Michael Strahan dot the Giant landscape and dominate the NFL history books.

Through all of this, New Yorkers have seen more glorious thrills, exciting spills, and notorious chills than any other fans in the NFL. The famous "sneakers game".The Greatest Game Ever Played. Y.A. Tittle's seven-touchdown performance. The championship victories and crushing losses. The Bednarik-Gifford hit.The Taylor-Theismann collision. The Pisarcik fumble. The Super Bowls. They're all part of Giants lore. And they're all here in New York Giants:75 Years of Football Memories.

For the past 75 years, New York's famed Daily News has captured the history and rich tradition of the New York Giants with unparalleled writings by Marshall Hunt, Gene Ward, Jimmy Powers, Dick Young, Harry Cronin, Joe Trimble, Larry Fox, Bill Verigan, Norm Miller, Bill Madden, Mike Lupica, Gary Meyers and John Harper.

Now, through their stories and the brilliant photography of The Daily News, New Yorkers can relive the most memorable moments of the Giants' 75 years of football history. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive so far
A must read for anyone with an injured horse. This book will expose you
to the whole world of physical therapy treatments utilized by physical therapist,
sports medicine doctors, body workers, and others in the human world which
therapists like Mimi Porter are applying to equines. History of these treatments,
covering over two decades, validates their effectiveness bythe thousands of horses
successfully returned to pre-injured condition. It's important to note most of the
therapies discussed are not offered by standard veterinarian care.I particularly
like the incorporation for bodywork techniques, such as, cranialsacral and
myofascial release which offer more effective healing than traditional massage.
And ifyou wantan alternative to injecting your horse with medication there is an
excellent section covering iontophoresis.Even though it is not a protocol book,
and finding someone that is trained in many of these methods can be difficult,it's the

individual awareness and knowledge that will create a demand for much needed equine therapists. Well written with many excellent photos make this an enlightening and enjoyable read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Equine Sports Therapy
I found Ms Porter's book to be indispensably useful regarding Equine Sports Therapy, and also interesting to read. Each chapter focuses on a major theraputic modality, and discusses its basic scientific theory, techniques for proper use, and pros and cons. Ms Porter's holistic approach to Equine Therapy was much appreciated. Throughout her book she supports the horse as an individual, and stresses that each plan of treatment must be centered on that horse's individual needs, rather than just based on a manufacture's recommendation.

I would recommend this book to any Equine Vet, Therapist or Care-giver. It's a valued addition to my library.
