Product Description
This book presents recent advances in the application of Lyapunov's method for distributed parameter systems to the control of vibration and noise. The material is appropriate for graduate and advanced undergraduate students as well as academic and industrial researchers in engineering and mathematics. The book uses detailed examples to introduce modeling, control theory, and mechatronic implementation for distributed vibration and noise applications. Adaptive, output feedback controllers are shown to asymptotically stabilize distributed vibration and noise and to learn system parameters. Visual feedback control using high speed video and setpoint regulation for systems with rigid body modes are presented. The book provides readers with the tools to model distributed vibration and noise systems, design model-based controllers that guarantee stability and robustness, and implement the controllers with the appropriate sensing, actuation, and control hardware and software. ... Product Description
Essential theory and proven techniques for acoustic echo and noise suppression

Today’s voice communication systems, with their increasing demand for user comfort, necessitate a growing focus on acoustic noise suppression and echo reduction. Drawing on the results of a twenty-year career with the Signal Theory Group at Darmstadt University of Technology, Darmstadt, Germany, Acoustic Echo and Noise Control: A Practical Approach addresses proven methods for suppressing acoustic echoes and noise in various sound systems, from hands-free telephones to video conferencing systems, hearing aids, and speech recognition systems.

With emphasis on single-channel systems, the authors, both recognized experts in the field, deliver a combination of theoretical research and practical solutions to acoustical problems across a broad range of industries. In addition to presenting a detailed description of practical methods for controlling acoustic echoes and noise, they also develop a theory for optimal control parameters and present practical estimation and approximation methods.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Basic algorithms for filtering, linear prediction, and adaptation of filter coefficients
  • Application of these algorithms to acoustic echo cancellation and residual echo and noise suppression
  • Estimation of nonmeasurable quantities necessary to control algorithms
  • Devising control structures based on these quantities

Requiring only a basic knowledge of linear systems theory and digital signal processing, this text offers an ideal resource for students, researchers, and systems engineers seeking to familiarize themselves with the latest developments and practical applications in this fascinating field. ... Product Description
Active Noise and Vibration Control (ANVC) is a modern technology characterized by both high-tech components and an ever-increasing range of applications in disciplines as diverse as civil, mechanical and aeronautical engineering.

This wide-ranging book provides readers with insight into the fundamentals and technology of ANVC, explaining the physical, biological (including psychological) and control principles involved. The author also goes far beyond the basic 1933 definition of Lueg, as he expands the concept to allow for an overwhelming amount of applications. In this way ANVC couples with other areas of physics, and of biology, giving fascinating prospects for the future.

Featuring a review of state-of-the-art practice together with more than 1,000 references, this critical study is designed to convey and encourage creative thinking within the topic. ... Read more

Product Description

The Handbook of Signal Processing in Acoustics will compile the techniques and applications of signal processing as they are used in the many varied areas of Acoustics. The Handbook will emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of signal processing in acoustics. Each Section of the Handbook will present topics on signal processing which are important in a specific area of acoustics. These will be of interest to specialists in these areas because they will be presented from their technical perspective, rather than a generic engineering approach to signal processing. Non-specialists, or specialists from different areas, will find the self-contained chapters accessible and will be interested in the similarities and differences between the approaches and techniques used in different areas of acoustics.

The Handbook will have many illustrations, tables, and key equations. Signal processing techniques which find major application in different areas of acoustics will be presented from differing perspectives. There will be an extensive index for cross-referencing of material in the book.

Product Description
ISO 14837-1:2005 provides general guidance on ground-borne vibration generated by the operation of rail systems, and the resultant ground-borne noise in buildings. It lists the factors and parameters that need to be taken into consideration and offers guidance on prediction methods appropriate for a range of circumstances (e.g. to support the assessment of effects on human occupants and sensitive equipment or operations inside the buildings in addition to the predictions required to assess the risk of damage to building structures). Attention is paid in ISO 14837-1:2005 to characteristics of the source: emission (e.g. train, wheel, rail, track, supporting infrastructure); propagation path: transmission (e.g. ground condition, distance); and receiving structures: immission: (e.g. foundations, form of building construction). The guidance covers all forms of wheel and rail systems, from light-rail to high-speed trains and freight. ISO 14837-1:2005 provides guidance for rail systems at-grade, on elevated structures and in tunnels. It does not deal with vibration arising from the construction and maintenance of the rail system. It does not deal with airborne noise. Structure-radiated noise from elevated structures, which can have a significant environmental impact, is also excluded. ... Read more
