4-0 out of 5 stars Very concise and through supplement to the CERM
I just finished writing the Civil PE ( Structural afternoon)

This book was my primary resource book. I studied with the all in one, the CERM and Structural Depth Reference + all required code references. I managed to pick off 60 % of the total exam
questions with this book alone ( both am and pm). This book is exceptional for the AM portion. The formulas
aren't as neatly laid out as the CERM and it lacks a bit on code referencing (fomula x from aci 318 section..) but that's largely due to the fact that it covers am and pm discipline for all 5 subjects.
I spent 6 weeks with this book and also ordered dr goswami's practice problems.

This is a very very good supplement I highly recommend it. This was best tool I had for the exam.
For those studying for the structural discipline, understand how to
navigate your codes and know the topics in the structural depth reference
manual.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great complement to Lindeburg's book
I have done my primary prep with Lindeburg's reference manual and have been very happy with it. There are occasions when I don't have understand the topic or aren't able to quickly put my fingers on the information in that massive book and this has been a fantastic resource. I plan on getting rid of all my materials when I pass and only keeping this book for my continued reference.

If you need a brush up on topics and concepts throughout the depth portions of the exam, this book alone won't get you there, but it is a great addition to your library as an additional resource. Highly recommended!

As a total study package, I recommend Lindeburg's reference manual and practice problems, NCEES sample exam, 6 min problems and solutions in all topics (they are broken up in breadth and depth) and Civil Engineering All-In-One PE Exam Guide: Breadth and Depth by Indranil Goswami. You will obviously need additional reference materials for your particular depth.

4-0 out of 5 stars All in One is a good review book
I have been preparing the PE using All in one and it is really helpful. The book is precise and concise about the topics. The Author has published also the sample exam questions and I am going to get them because I suspect from his format that they are also on target for the PE exam preparation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Material for PE Exam
This book covers NCEES requirements for the PE exam including the construction module. The topics are well laid out and easy to understand. It is written in such a concise and a compact manner that even during the PE exam, the topics can easily be referenced. Linderburg book is good, but with too much details which sometimes can be overwhelming. The worked problems in the "All-in-one" looks more like the NCEES practise problems. If you are looking for a book that can prepear you for the exam in less than three months buy this book.It is a good resource for PE exam candidates and practising professional engineers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to study and learn from!
This book is simply excellent. Lindeburg is a good book to have with you during the exam, but I think I only opened it a couple times. I did not use Lindeburg to study. There is no flow to the book, although it has literally every possible topic in it (although only half of them are useful).

All-in-One is a very different book from Lindeburg. There is a very deliberate flow to it, which makes it easy to read and learn from. He gives you ONLY what you need for each subject, and it seemed to me to be comprehensive. Bring Lindeburg for the rare question that is not in this book, but I would say it contains what you need for at least 90% of the problems. Since it is a first edition, I did find some errors in the book...but they just keep you on your toes! Fix them with a pen and move on.

Oh yes, and it helps very much to take a good review class... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars FRANKLY DISAPPOINTING
I am a professional translator, and frankly I found this particular dictionary to be not up to expectations, in particular since it is extremely expensive. There are many, many construction terms that are not included. Not only that, even the Spanish translation to the Preface is full of translation and syntactical errors in Spanish, Wiley should have gotten a native speaker of Spanish to do it. If the preface is full of mistakes, the rest of the dictionary is suspect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for review and the PE
I bought this and the NCEES sample problem book to review for the PE exam. The Solved Problems book helped greatly in familiarizing myself with some branches of Civil Engineering that I am not involved in professionally, and that turned out to be very beneficial for the exam, since I was able to check a couple of similar problems to determine solution methodology for them. This is a very solid companion to the Reference Manual, which I highly recommend to anyone, as it was the single most important reference I had.Basically, if you're going to be taking the PE exam, this is a book you should have both to review and take with you for the day of the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for engineering majors
This book has everything you would expect for engineering. A must have for Engineering majors. And it's cheep!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly fantastic reference.
I must admit here at the beginning that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to this type of book.I have reference books dating back a century for the sole reason that I do not trust nor like modern works. The current trend in reference is to provide only that information which will provide the reader with exactly what they want at that exact moment. This methodology requires that the reader return continually to the reference, wasting their time and energy.Older works provide a broader view of given topics and therefore tend to be held in my favor. This work may well be - in my opinion - the last of the great engineering references.

As stated by another reviewer, this work does an excellent job of covering most of the topics and information normally contained within a four-year mechanical engineering degree. This is not to say it is an apt replacement for a degree, just an excellent accessory to one.

Unlike the majority of generalized engineering references, this publication surpasses the norm of a mishmash of datasheets cribbed from manufacturers. The information contained is highly valuable, universally applicable and beautifully organized. That being said, it is true that the content is highly codified and would be of little value to those individuals who are unfamiliar with 'higher' level mathematics or engineering.

There are those in the engineering community who will find this reference lacking in specific topics - say, technical drafting, GD&T or materials science - but on the whole it is truly superb.

My only concern after having owned it for twenty-four hours is how I am going to reinforce the binding to keep the book from falling apart from too much use...

4-0 out of 5 stars A good reference, even for the PE Exam
This little book is a good tool to add to your tool box.It has a fairly complete tabulation of formulas and even goes into some depth explaining them, but not too much. The only reason it got 4 vs 5 stars for therating was that the index is not cross referenced.I got the book as an aid for my first attempt at the PE Exam, and it earned its way on several questions- mechanics of materials especially.I strongly recommend this book to anyone in engineering who needs a pocket guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!
This book is just awesome!

First thing you notice when you open the box: it's tiny!
The book measures about 11.5x15.5 CM for a thickness of 3 CM.
This format makes it very easy to carry around!

It's packed with LOADS of info which cover so many fields! Plus it's printed on 1 side only, which gives you some space to add notes. The table at the beginning (literally at the beginning - on the cover!) makes finding the info you're looking for very easy: each section is designated by a letter. In each section the progression is the same: from the basics up to the most advanced.

Very very handy, a must have! I which I had it when I was studying engineering man !! There's basically almost everything you need in there! Looking through it I was amazed at all the stuff that was coming back to my memory!

The hardcover is good, it makes the book strong (and feel strong).

I think the best feature of this book is that it covers many subjects, with a broad range of complexity level. That means whether you're just looking for some basic information to refresh your memory or get up to date with something, or if you are looking for some serious formulas and calculation, it's in there!
I know that I will probably not use much of the advanced calculation presented, but I might come across a few, and this little book is gonna make the thing easy :)
It's an excellent way to refresh your memory!

A must have :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Includes a Wide Diversity of Handy Information

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay book
This book was just okay. There are other better suited study guides for taking the PE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Find another review book
I only made it thru the first section of the geotechnical chapter and realized that I had to return this book. Formula errors and many errors in the solutions to sample problems. Find another review book and stay away from this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Civil Engineering PE Exam Guide - Breadth and Depth
Paid over $90 for this book at Borders and was extremely dissapointed. The CD is an exact replica of what is in the book - Many equation errors and typos, no "practice test" questions as stated on the cover. The editors of this book are certianly not PEs and could never pass the test with this!

2-0 out of 5 stars Errors
I just bought it. I opened up on page 101 to find the Dr(%) formula (5.10) being wrong. This does not give me a warm feeling. I probably will be further disappointed with this book. I'll tell you more about it later.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
My hope was to find a book with example problems that reflect the new PE exam format. This book has no end of chapter problems at all.And from what I read there was no difference in the depth and breadth sections.I did a side-by-side comparison of the environmental stuff and it was word for word.As far as I can tell the only thing the depth section (which is on CD) gives you is a bunch of charts you'll never use. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars As Expected !!!!
Very pleased with the purchased. Got exactly what I expected. I recommend buying this book from the seller.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and allowed in exam room
If you look at the PE exam website for CA, this is specifically mentioned that it is allowed. I quote, "Published reference materials entitled, "120 Solved Surveying Problems" for the California Special Civil Engineers Examination (CSSP) and "Civil Surveying Samples Examinations" for the California Special Engineering Surveying Examination (CSSE2) will be allowed." I used this book and thought it was very helpful. I passed the surveying exam on the first try using this book. [...]

1-0 out of 5 stars Not allowed in the CA Surveying Exam
Because this book is bound with staples, it is NOT allowed at the Surveying portion of the California State specific Civil PE exam, a fact I discovered today. If you try to take it in, it will be confiscated. While the book itself helped me understand the surveying concepts, it was very disappointing to have it taken away moments before the big test.

1-0 out of 5 stars Deficient
Please see my review of the 3-book series in which this book is typically purchased in the reviews of "Surveying Principles for Civil Engineers."

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay
There are many other sources were we can get problems and solutions for surveying.I thought for just 120 problems the price was a bit high. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great for learning the capabilities of Civil 3D
I highly recommend this book as well as the others in the series. It helps to have some basic familiarity with AutoCAD before picking it up, but this book is well written and easy to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars The truth is in the title...
This book series has continued to provide my department a desktop guide to mastering the art and science in Civil 3d.The best part about the book is being able to skip straight to the tough topic of the day, and to make sure you have the basic, and the exact explanation.Classes tend to dwell on what they believe is important from the programs capabilities, but a book index lets you pick and choose battles and maintain profitable in your everyday work.

Special thanks to the authors for such an in depth look at topics.I will be taking the Autodesk Certification in the fall, and will be glad to have "Mastered" my craft. ... Read more
