Product Description

The promise of “green jobs” and a “clean energy future” has roused the masses. But as Robert Bryce makes clear in this provocative book, that vision needs a major re-vision. We cannot—and will not—quit using carbon-based fuels at any time in the near future for a simple reason: they provide the horsepower that we crave. The hard reality is that oil, coal, and natural gas are here to stay.

Fueling our society requires more than sentiment and rhetoric; we need to make good decisions and smart investments based on facts. In Power Hungry, Bryce provides a supertanker-load of footnoted facts while shepherding readers through basic physics and math. And with the help of a panoply of vivid graphics and tables, he crushes a phalanx of energy myths, showing why renewables are not green, carbon capture and sequestration won’t work, and even—surprise!—that the U.S. is leading the world in energy efficiency. He also charts the amazing growth of the fuels of the future: natural gas and nuclear.

Power Hungry delivers a clear-eyed view of what America has “in the tank,” and what’s needed to transform the gargantuan global energy sector.

5-0 out of 5 stars Doing the math
A very readable book, and a fascinating look at energy sources for the near future. The author clarifies some of the serious problems with wind power, solar power, and ethanol. While the trade-offs in using some of these energy sources may change (a reliable way of storing energy would make solar and wind power much more useful) Bryce makes it clear that at present these popular "green" energy sources just aren't a practical solution and may even create more carbon dioxide in the air than burning fossil fuels (due to the need for a gas-fired generator that keeps starting and stopping as needed).

An amusing pair of statements from Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC:

On page 18 he is quoted as being "fully supportive" of the goal to reduce the level ofcarbon dioxide in the air to 350 ppm.

On page 63 he tells reporters where India is going to be getting its future power: "...we really don't have any choice but to use coal."

So the IPCC's policy is...what? "Don't use "dirty" energy sources...unless you really, really need to?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Always Believe The Numbers
I appreciate Robert's openness and his straight forwardness in addressing the truth in power/energy needs of our future. He addresses this issue with pure numbers created by the corporations involved in the production of power. I am always on the side of raw numbers because I always tell others, "numbers don't lie, people do". We are in an age where people want to tweak raw data into information that suits their personal agendas, instead of living with the raw data truth. Thank you again Robert for the freshness/frankness of the raw data! Bravo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Coldly Logical and Wonderfully Captivating
"Green energy" and "renewable energy" are terms that are constantly in the limelight in our society these days. But what do they mean and are those "types" of energy in any way better than our current mainstream energy sources? And is there any way to quantitatively compare all these different sources, using meaningful criteria? These are just a few of the questions that the author addresses in this fascinating and wide-ranging book. After defining and explaining various terms that are useful in the energy field - and using cold irrefutable logic and plain common sense - the author examines the different sources of energy that humans have used over their history and explores our current energy options. In the process, the pros and cons of each energy source are discussed, as well as the significance of continuing to use the same (or some of the same) ones into the future versus a major shift towards "green" "renewable" sources. Along the way, the author debunks many of the misleading energy-related myths that are so widespread today.

The author writes very well. His style is lively, clear, friendly, authoritative, often witty and immensely engaging. The vast amount of information contained in this book is presented in a way that makes it accessible to a very broad readership. Loaded with plenty of charts, figures, examples and a wealth of fully-referenced information, this book should be of interest to anyone interested in the cold, hard facts about the energy-related issues that make the headlines.

4-0 out of 5 stars straight talk on energy

The new technology of "horizontal drilling" has provided a large surplus of natural gas now available to replace the burning of coal.France has demonstrated to the world the advantages of nuclear power. England, Norway and Finland, after having invested heavily in wind, have all now reached the decision wind is not a practical source of base energy needs. These countries have decided to continue using the facilities already installed, but to discontinue future expansion. Our future lies in natural gas and nuclear.Author Bryce lays out the conventional wisdom, in laymans terms, why renewable energy and green technology cannot and will not provide the huge energy needs to maintain the demands of the civilized world.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Source of In-Depth Energy Information
Few science books are worth reading each and every page. Climatism, by Steve Gorham (reviewed here in March), is an exception. Power Hungry is not, but without doubt it contains more than enough great information to make it a terrific buy for anyone with a strong interest in the nation's energy supply.

I recommend reading only about 20 pages a day, as it is very heavy on the numbers, but it's well worth a fun 15-day investment.

Comprehensive Research
Robert Bryce spent four years researching every aspect of American energy from a fairly objective point of view. As one currently under contract to compile a four-volume encyclopedia of energy for John Wiley & Sons, I can tell you Bryce has done an outstanding job.

From time to time he throws in his personal politics--which too many authors are inclined to do--and he has too much respect for the global warming alarmists for my comfort, but these do not detract too much from the excellent analysis of various energy technologies.

A full 54 pages devoted to references illustrate the comprehensive research Bryce has done, as well as the quality of his sources. He is at his best destroying many of the myths regarding renewable energy, providing powerful mathematical proofs that anyone can understand.

He is also excellent on nuclear energy, and I will use one of his chapters as the basis for a future article on small-scale nuclear power generation in a future issue of Environment & Climate News.

Useful Information
To convince you of the value of the book, in the remainder of this review I will simply offer a surfer's list of some of the wonderful nuggets of information this 394-page text contains:

* Natural gas supplies are bountiful, with a known 280 years of resources available at our present rate of consumption.

* The next time someone says we are addicted to oil, substitute the word "prosperity" for oil.

* Nearly 3 billion people relying on biomass energy would love to trade places with us.

* Power density is the key to all energy sources. Oil, gas, coal, and nuclear have high power density, whereas wind, solar, and other renewable power sources have terribly low density.

* Humans cannot live near wind farms because of the low-level noise produced by their massive blades, which has palpable physical impacts.

* Each megawatt of deliverable wind energy requires 870 cubic meters of concrete and 460 tons of steel, whereas a gas-fired plant requires only about 3 percent as much.

* In order for the Chinese to build a planned 12,700 megawatts of new wind power, they will have to add 9,200 megawatts of new coal power as back-up.

* Denmark's perceived leadership in successful wind power is a mirage. Denmark has not reduced carbon emissions, energy costs have tripled there, and the nation must export most of its wind power at below-market rates.

* The American Bird Conservancy estimates between 75,000 and 275,000 birds are killed each year by wind turbines.

* The United States, without strict government mandates, is already leading the world in reducing its carbon intensity and its energy use without doing any of the things environmental activist groups dictate.

* Each year, hundreds of thousands of people die in Third World nations from indoor air pollution caused by the burning of biomass. Power from coal, natural gas, and oil would improve living conditions and reduce pollution-related deaths.

* Although environmental activist groups strongly hype cellulosic ethanol, it is no closer to technological and economic viability than it was when first described in 1921.

* Ethanol cannot significantly reduce the demand for oil, because many products other than automotive fuel are extracted from oil.

* Batteries have improved, but not by the orders of magnitude required to enable battery-powered cars to compete with other forms of transportation.

* 2,000 tons of uranium can release as much energy as 4.2 billion tons of oil.

* Measured in units of output, wind and solar power are getting 15 times as much federal subsidy money as nuclear power.

Power Density the Key
The primary theme of this book is the importance of power density. As Bryce thoroughly documents, coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear power provide such power density while wind, solar, and biofuels do not.

You will not find a book on energy that makes this important point more strongly than this one. ... Read more

This book helped me change my habits from an unhealthy life to a completely raw, living foods lifestyle.I look so much better and feel beautiful and healthy.

4-0 out of 5 stars great introductory book to raw food
I am very new to raw food and as looking for a book to give me a good introductory review to what this "raw food" is, why is it good for you and how can I easily try to incorporate it into my diet. This book covered all of it and was quite motivating for me to try this. The one thing I was looking for in this book was some more background as to the principles but great book overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
After looking into several different books regarding the Raw Food diet, it was recommended to me that I check out Natalia Rose's books and this one is great! Recipes, tips, a transition plan for those just starting, and more on life force energy and what we need to do to boost it, more so than just our diets. This is an excellent resource to pair with other books and online resources, whether you're new to raw food or have been in the know for years.

2-0 out of 5 stars More Juice Detox type of book than raw food recipe book
There are about 2 recipes I've used repeatedly after having this book for years now, but that's it.Much of the book is preaching on how we need to detox and juice. This book is more on an extreme level. For day to day raw food I'd search elsewhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful and upbeat
Short, upbeat, clearly written chapters, and a positive "can-do" approach to redirecting one's energy and fueling positive change with energizing activities make this a great read. The author is obviously passionate about the topic, and his humanity and generous spirit are evident throughout the book. This is the kind of paperback that's good to keep in your car or purse for a quick reminder that the power to increase energy is in the individual's hands, no matter what the circumstances. This book has literally changed my life, it is so amazing! So many people have noticed my new attitude and have asked what my secret is. When I tell people about this book they go out and buy it. And in time they too feel it has changed their life. This has improved my health as well as my personal, professional, and spiritual aspects of my life. I have read many other books about positive energy, but this particular book seems to be the most practical and easily applicable to daily life. And you see immediate results! 5-0 out of 5 stars Great read!
This author does a great job making a very technical subject interesting and relevant. This book explains a lot of why so many patients seem to benefit from body work, acupuncture and homeopathic interventions. It's left me open-minded to using more of these interventions in my own practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for al energy therapists
This book is frankly amazing! I devoured it from begining to end and it's the sort of book you have to read several time to get the full benefit of all the information in it.

It presents a rational, scientific, no-nonsense view of energy medicine outlined in a an unbiased objective way. What really stands out is that all the facts stated are backed up by research papers listed at the end of each chapter so that all claims made can be investigated by checking out those research papers. Also, what amazed me is that the research quoted in the book comes from well known scientists, Nobel Prize winners etc.

Basically, what Oschman is saying is that all the facts are out there and available to anyone who cares to take a look. Anyone reading this book with an open mind will have no doubt that energy is a valid form of healing. An ideal book for teachers looking to present a rational approach to explaining how energy works.

Well done!

4-0 out of 5 stars There is overwhelming scientific evidence for energy medicine
Interesting book on various energy healing modalities. I would have preferred it if the book had some details on how to go about using these techniques, though. The other reviewers have already mentioned what I would have mentioned so there's no need to repeat it again.

If you want scientific evidence that magnetic therapy works, all roads lead to the Albert Roy Davis laboratory. They are solely responsible for the surge of interest in magnetic therapy in the 90's. Experiments with magnetism/electromagnetism were not consistently reproducable until Davis' discovery (that the North and South poles of magnetism are two separate energies with opposite effects). The book, "The Magnetic Effect", by Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls, Jr., is THE pioneer book on how to use magnetism for healing numerous ailments. There was a study published in the Journal of the National Medical Association, Vol. 82, No.9 (1990), that confirmed the cancer discoveries of Davis and Rawls. "The experiment with human lung carcinoma cells verified the statement by Davis and Rawls that there is an increase in the growth curve of human lung carcinoma cells when exposed to positive polarity magnetic fields." "This experiment verified the statement that different magnetic field polarities produce different effects; while one polarity produced a decrease in the growth curve, the opposite produced an increase (Figure 1)."

Davis and Rawls are trailblazers in the fields of electromagnetic healing, ESP, agriculture, anti-aging, the laying on of hands (read their 3rd book, "The Rainbow in Your Hands"), intelligence research... There is no end to this list because their discoveries can be utilized in all fields of human knowledge. To understand what I'm talking about read their first book, "Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System". You will most definitely want to hear the interview with Walter Rawls on the blogtalkradio website. To find it just type "Walter C. Rawls, Jr." in the search box.

2-0 out of 5 stars Energy Medicine
The author took too much time explaining science of energy. If you have already read up on energy and the science behind it, this book is repetitive.I prefer Dr Gerber's "Vibrational Medicine".

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but limited
The author does a superb job in illustrating the advances in scientific knowledge. It is amazing to me to learn how far advanced science is in discovering the workings of the body.It is also amazing to learn that so many "far out" methods of healing are now appoaching mainstream.

I was fortunate to have had a Reiki treatment. The session took about 20 minutes. All that time I could feel the pleasant heat from the therapist's hands although they never touched me.This experience made me more receptive to the author's comments, as there are many references to the effectiveness of hands on therapy.

I also liked the short chapters on each issue where the subject matter was covered in detail with explanatory diagrams.

My only concern, and why four instead of five stars, is that I would think that some people would have difficulty not only in accepting his presentations but also the amount of detail involved. This book is not for you if you read it with a prejudgment.Again, if it were not for my Reiki experience, I would have had some difficulty.

In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the author's style.I hope that you do also. ... Read more

Product Description

The coming energy crisis caused by a peak in global oil and natural gas production will profoundly affect the lives of all North Americans. As the price of these vital fuels rises, homeowners will scramble to cut their fuel bills. Two options for meeting the upcoming challenge are dramatic improvements in home energy efficiency and efforts to tap into clean, affordable, renewable energy resources to heat and cool homes, to provide hot water and electricity, and even to cook. These measures can result in huge savings and a level of energy independence.

The Homeowner’s Guide to Renewable Energy tells you how. It starts by outlining the likely impacts of fossil fuel shortages and some basic facts about energy. It then discusses energy conservation to slash energy bills and prepare for renewable energy options. Focusing carefully on specific strategies needed to replace specific fuels, the book then examines each practical energy option available to homeowners:

• Solar hot water, cooking, and water purification
• Space heat: passive and active solar retrofits
• Wood heat
• Passive cooling
• Solar electricity
• Wind-generated electricity
• Electricity from microhydropower sources
• Emerging technologies—hydrogen, fuel cells, methane digesters, and biodiesel

The Homeowner’s Guide to Renewable Energy gives readers sufficient knowledge to hire and communicate effectively with contractors and, for those wanting do installations themselves, it recommends more detailed manuals. With a complete resource listing, this well-illustrated and accessible guide is a perfect companion for illuminating the coming dark age.

Dan Chiras has studied renewable energy and energy efficiency for three decades and has installed several renewable energy systems. He lives in a self-designed passive solar/solar electric home. An award-winning author of over 20 books, he is a sustainability design consultant who teaches courses on renewable energy, green building, and sustainability at Colorado College.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE homeowner's guide for renewable & energy efficiency
This is a must have book for anyone wanting to read up on how to improve your environmental footprint. Good Source of information for both renewable energy and energy efficiency. The book is a easy read and I highly recommend this book as well as others that Dan Chiras has written.I love this author, he really knows what he is talking about. Not only does he talk about it, he also practices what he preaches.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very user friendly, informative.
This is very good review of renewable options. You don't have to be an engineer yet it is more than you've read in the newspapers and such.I saw some things I hadn't heard of.It is realistic, not everything works everywhere. It takes into account cost and return. It is not a tech manual, you won't know how to install the whole system (whichever it would be) but you'll likely know which way to go if need more.If I have a beef it is that the photos could be more and better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok book.
Could have used more content on solar theory and techniques, and less on what is available commercially...

More DIY info would be better.

5-0 out of 5 stars The bible ofrenewable energy for the home.
This is an outstanding, readable, comprehensive presentation of the subject of renewable energy for the homeowner. For each topic the author presents the principles, salient facts and a range of projects from the simplest do-it-yourself to that which would require a professional installation. Illustrations are excellent. In solar hot water for example he presents projects which range froma mini batch system consisting of a coiled black hose to a professionally installed all weather solar collector, storage with on-demand gas supplement. Based on this reading I plan to build a freestanding outdoor thermosiphon solar shower using cast off materials and to replace an inefficient hot water tank with a propane on-demand all season hot water heater. Chiras educates the homeowner to think broadly and to plan very manageable projects suited to his/her needs. Superb! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for the gems in this book...
This little book it's a beginners guide to work successful spell work. Teaches the fundamentals to work with energy ( Patrick Dunn must be rolling his eyes :)
the Author shares her stories from her great-grandmother Jeda. and Jeda must be proud, the lesson was learned. I commune with Jeda's philosophy of life, to her everything was a ritual. imagine to live your life every second, every breath as a ritual. Quite magical.

What i really enjoyed was that, every now and then i would find myself nodding with my head agreeing with what she said.

Allow me to quote her - " A person has to speak their own reality into existence " ... " Stay on message... you have to reinforce your desired outcome, not your fears " ... " The universe doesn'treward lazyness ... it laughs at it " you're an adult and you're responsible for your own actions ,good or bad " ... " deal with it or it will deal with you "

this are just a few quotes that made me smile, you'll have to buy the book to know the context :) and let me tell you there are many more pearls in this little book.

There are exercises for you to do , like color as an emotional cue. i used crayons on this one andnow every time i open the book it seems that is alive.

Mya also teaches how to revise spells . i remember when i was reading - how to be a wicked witch - Trish telesco's funny book, i went trough the motions and start to do a prosperity spell, it wasn't that specific, but happened just like mya said
. I ended up finding a penny on the street :)

p.s - Sorry my exotic english.

3-0 out of 5 stars Energy Essentials for Witches and Spellcasters
Some of the book was good, and other parts I felt were a little boring.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Want To Learn To Cast Spells
I have several books sitting on my shelves and none come close to this one. Mya Om teaches you how to cast a spell in this book and the way she explains it, it's as if she were sitting across the table from you carrying on a conversation. She doesn't talk about the hocus pocus things. I use to think I had to do so many rituals before even getting started with my spellcasting. I can hardly wait to cast my next spell, her way, and watch what happens. The way she has explained it, I can't fail! For all newbies, I highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
This book is well-written and easy to follow. It is non-denominational, making it easy no matter what path one is following. Her exercises walk you up through the levels easily. Her style of teaching is like sitting across the table from her while sharing a cup of coffee while learning. I really like this book. ... Read more

I ordered the book because I wanted to see if I want to take the course he is offering.I did not get anything out of it.The book is not well written and the author has tried to hide most of the material as it asks you to visit his website and download a video and when you go there there are no videos to view. I found it incomplete and a total waste of my time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leading from Your Core
This is another great business book with critical success concepts and principles set to a story.I personally believe people are wired to resonate with (and remember) stories ... not facts, figures, and other details. So this book reaches out to the part of us that is designed to remember and romances the part of us that will apply what we learned.I applaud Bruce for a thoroughly entertaining and deeply practical story that will help us all, coach or not, become better leaders ... wherever and whoever we lead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This book takes a vastly different approach to improving your business and, as such, creates a vastly different outcome. My life, both professionally and personally, has changed dramatically thanks to "Energy Leadership."

5-0 out of 5 stars We're all leaders in life!
Bruce Schneider's Energy Leadership tells the story of a small business owner's journey to identify and then shift his own and his company's energetic resonance to a higher level using the Energetic Self Perception Chart (I Chart) with the intention of resurrecting his company's competitive demise. In desperation and as a last hope, Richard O'Connell, small business owner of O'Connell Consulting, hires leadership coach, Bruce Schneider, to partner with him on this journey. Bruce adeptly guides the initially doubtful Richard using energy leadership tools to uncover first Richard's own energy level and then the energy levels of his individual employees and overall company to discover the opportunities that lie ahead.

Richard's inner and outer work over the ensuing months enable him to move beyond his previous limitations as a leader and re-engage the potential of all but one of his employees. The collective results speak for themselves - O'Connell Consulting re-identifies itself as a business partner in the community attracting abundance along with new clients. Bruce articulately conveys the practical application of his energetic leadership principles throughout this journey of self-discovery and renewal to higher levels of personal and company performances.

2-0 out of 5 stars wordy, dull, and inferior to other books on leadership
I bought this book based on the reviews. It looked like a winner. In practice however, I found this book to be uninspiring. When I typically read self-improvement books,I take pages of notes and can instantly grasp how things apply to my life. The abstract concepts of mental attitude offered in this book I cannot relate to or envision how they apply to my challenges. In contrast, the writing of John Wooden and Stephen Covey are filled with great anecdotes, easy to grasp concepts, and they just make sense.I didn't even finish this book.Maybe the end tied it all together to offer a miraculous life-changing philosophy, but my gut tells me that there are about 20 pages of concept here, watered down to fill out a whole book.
If you are looking for leadership literature, look elsewhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Has Stood the Test of Time
Registered Tai Chi Chuan Instructor - TCUGB
Instructor - Northern Wu Style Tai Ji Quan Global Association

The Way of Energy is really two books for the price of one as Lam Kam Chuen teaches readers the distinct Ba Duan Jin and Zhan Zhuang Chi Kung systems.

Lam teaches a version of the Ba Duan Jin, or Eight Pieces of Brocade, as a complementary exercise to his Zhan Zhuang. Lam's rationale is that the Eight Pieces will help to improve the body's ability to handle increased chi flow resulting from Zhan Zhuang practice.

Lam doesn't identify the location of the chi meridians that will be enhanced by each Brocade but he does describe the specific benefit of each exercise. Furthermore, Lam gives basic and advanced versions of each Brocade so that levels of difficulty and capability are balanced.

Lam's Zhan Zhuang system comes from the lineage of the famous martial artist Wang Xiang Zhai and in "The Way" Lam shares teachings from Wang's original (Chinese) manuscripts.

Lam teaches the five basic Zhan Zhuang postures with clear illustrations, photos and descriptions. Typical physical reactions are also documented.

Lam goes on to teach progressively more difficult Zhan Zhuang postures and practices together with "mentality exercises" to derive further benefits.

Lam also describes the use of Zhan Zhuang in daily life and includes exercise regimes for various ailments.

The book is beautifully illustrated. In addition to drawings and photos relating to the Chi Kung there are many uplifting photographs of trees accompanied by relevant poetry.

I bought this book almost 20 years ago. Since then "The Way of Energy" has rightly become a modern classic. It is still as useful and important today as it was when first published. Lam is to be admired for sharing his Chi Kung so openly and empowering his readers to take positive and personal action to improve their own health.

This book is a very highly recommended buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this practice!
Zhan Zhuang (standing like a tree) is the most important fundamental practice for Chinese internal martial arts (like tai chi, yi chuen and pakua). The most comprehensive system of Zhan Zhaung was perfected by the grandmaster of yi chuen Master Wong, and the author of this book master Lam is from this best-practice lineage.Master Lam has done an excellent job in presenting this best practice to the west in this and other books of his.Incidentally, Grandmaster Wong had adamantly asserted his Zhan Zhuang is NOT chi kung, but an energy system of the muscular-cum-bone structure built from visualization (or suggestion), relaxation and structural (mostly circular or triangular) power. The reason behind is that Grandmaster Wong's system clearly distinguished itself from Taoist systems (of some tai-chi practitioners in particular) that view microcosmic orbit circulation as the fundamental practice of Chinese internal martial arts (the best Taoist system available in the west is as taught by Mantak Chia). To this debate, Zhan Zhuang clearly stands as the more appropriate for self-learners and safer to practice in general.

The additional benefit of Zhan Zhuang is that it can be used as a stand-alone system for patients suffering and/or recovering from various ailments, in particular in relation to impairment of movements and structural/ailment-related problems. In his later days Grandmaster Wong and his student master Yu (sifu of master Lam) did a lot of work to this end.

It is therefore a highly recommended practice for folks seeking for good health. And master Lam has done an excellent job in presenting this practice in clear and understandable form. One possible drawback of this practice: it is too simple, i.e. some people tend to give up this practice (though experienced its benefits!) due to boredom. My suggestion: for cases like this, practice Zhan Zhuang for 6 months to a year and then, additionally, pick up one martial art form like tai-chi, yi-chuen or pakua).

5-0 out of 5 stars I am feeling so good now
This is absolutely the ultimate beginner's guide to Zhan Zhuang.
The text is crystal clear and the illustration is superb.
The authors really know what they are teaching and try their best to show how to do it without reservation.

After practicing Zhan Zhuang for a few weeks, I am really into this and feeling very energized.
No wonder this book is still in print after 18 years.
Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Health Benifits
There is not much I can add that other reviewers already have not said, but the book and the author deserve praise. The Qi Gong is deceptively simple, but provides you with numerous benefits if you follow through. The practice is called Zhan Zhang, and revolves around standing postures, i.e. "standing stake," or "embracing the ball," a form of standing meditation Qi Gong.

In addition to Qi Gong, this practice contains a core element of both Taiji Quan and Bagua Zhang as it relates to proper posture and balance. It should give you a better understanding of balance as your body relates to gravity and motion, and should considerably improve your health, posture, back, and joints. This is definitely one of my favorite books.

Although Donna was born with a gift and talent to read people's energy and see a clear picture of what is going on, she is also able to share with us very grounded techniques to help those who have not been born with that talent.I have been using her 'meridian tracing' methods on my clients for over 10 years and find it extremely helpful!Thank you donna for your work and sharing your talent with us all!

5-0 out of 5 stars Healthcare Future for Americans
I cannot recommend this book enough, especially to Americans. As we all know, Americans have created a pretty unhealthy lifestyle for themselves. Most work too much, creating too much stress that is harmful to their bodies, leaving too little time for shopping and cooking healthy foods, forcing dependence on unhealthy fast foods or convenience foods and resulting in too little opportunities for exercise, all resulting in an increase in health problems all around. Unfortunately, this is about to be complicated by 'universal healthcare' (cough, cough) and there needs to be a shift in how Americans handle their healthcare needs! Energy Medicine holds the answers! Some may argue this is all placebo effect and while this may be true, a placebo effect is still an effect & that is more than many of us will have pretty soon. Read. Reread. Practice. Repeat. This is the future of healthcare.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book you need to begin learning about energy medicine
Recently, I became interested in energy medicine and this book was recommended to me. It is a book I have now read four times. What I most appreciate is that manner in which Donna Eden explains energy medicine in a way that is very inviting and very easy to understand (rather than being too technical or too new-age). I also appreciated the simply exercises one can do to gt acquainted with energy as well as the numerous illustrations.

I have checked out other books on the subject. I feel as though this one is a must-have and bound to be a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource on Energy Healing

It arrived with no problem , but some days later from the original arrival date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every man should practice what is in this book
For men, the techniques in this book are critical for preserving their life force energy. You are endowed with a set amount at birth and as you lose it, aging and health problems set in more quickly.By using the techniques in this book, men can conserve and preserve their life force energy and re-channel it in the body to increase vitality and health.Plus, you can learn how to truly please your lover ;)

4-0 out of 5 stars A more esoteric version of Taoist yoga practice
Mantak Chia is always comprehensive and detail in his approach, and has the good intention to keep (his version of) Taoist yoga practice alive and, hopefully, prosper. His sex-related books actually are selling better than his other chi-kung (and internal martial arts) or meditation books, probably there are more people in the west looking for multiple-orgasm than good health (both mental and physical) and high-level Taoist enlightenment towards psyche immortality.Or is it the case that his more sex-related books actually have been driving away people seeking advice on the other subjects? If the latter is more true, then that would be a pity, because his chi-kung (and internal martial arts) knowledge is excellent (probably one of the very best), his meditative approach is very good too, though sometimes, for Mantak's want of completeness, the presentation itself will likely to unduly complicate the practice.

My advice: folks, don't be scared away by Matak's (over) insistence on practicing sex-alchemy as an essential part for his other practices. If you have no intention to complicate your sexual bahavior, go directly to Matak's other practices (and enjoy sex as usual).

Back to main topic, concerning Matak's Taoist approach to sex.Suffice to say, it is NOT the mainstream sex approach in Taoist Yoga.Dual-practice is a side (esoteric even by mainstream Taoism, with or without using sexual energy/libido as stimulus) practice. And there are indeed two streams of Dual-practice, the more common dual-practice is a practice of meditation using a younger partner (applicable to middle-age and up male and female, for the purpose of a psyche stimulation of the libido), and practice with intercourse is the most esoteric version. So folks, I believe Mantak must have some good stuffs, but practice and know where you stand in Taoist tradition.

There is in fact an important book available in the west that use sexual energy (or to use a more appropriate term, libido) as stimulus to promote ching Chi that is to be practiced in solo, using deep and pure meditation as an inducement.I was told that is a very time consuming way of practice, and probably that's way few people nowadays use this more mainstream approach, except some who have devoted their lives to practice and preach the stuff as a religion.By the way, the book I mentioned is Taoist Yoga: Alchemy & Immortality translated by Charles Luk (principally a leading Buddhist practitioner by profession).

Product Description
A new edition of the bestseller

• The first book to reveal in the West the Taoist techniques that enable women to cultivate and enhance their sexual energy

• Reveals Taoist secrets for shortening menstruation, reducing cramps, and compressing more chi into the ovaries for greater sexual power

• Teaches the practice of total body orgasm

For thousands of years the sexual principles and techniques presented here were taught by Taoist masters in secret only to a small number of people (sworn to silence), in the royal courts and esoteric circles of China. This is the first book to make this ancient knowledge available to the West.

The foundation of healing love is the cultivation, transformation, and circulation of sexual energy, known as jing. Jing energy is creative, generative energy that is vital for the development of chi (vital life-force energy) and shen (spiritual energy), which enables higher practices of spiritual development. Jing is produced in the sexual organs, and it is energy women lose continually through menstruation and child bearing. Mantak Chia teaches powerful techniques developed by Taoist masters for the conservation of jing and how it is used to revitalize women's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Among the many benefits conferred by these practices are a reduction in the discomfort caused by menstruation and the ability to attain full-body orgasm. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Love Through Tao
Great Book, Highly recommended for the beginning tantra student, offers all the technicalities, yet is nowhere near in describing the true effects of tantra training and its possibilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every woman should practice what is in this book
It takes years to really master the techniques in here...and when you do, the benefits are amazing. Not just sexually...your health and wellness is greatly improved in a way that nothing else can achieve.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
This is one of the worst books ever read or should I say attempted to read. Title is VERY misleading as to what the book is about. Written by a man and I am wondering how he knows so much about a womans sexuality. Would not reccomend this book for purchace to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Taoistic tantra exercises
In depth refined awareness exercises for women who are serious about getting a deeper sense of the sexual/life stream and its 'home' in the genitals.
Not light reading. You have to practice the exercises for this book to make any real sense.
A must buy if you are into that kind of work and pretty uninteresting if you aren't!

5-0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS!
I have to admit that I don't even care about the origin of the practice, about the lineage, titles or whatever - I'm only interested if when I applied a teaching and practice in my life - do I get the desired results - and I guarantee if you apply the information from this book, if you engage in the practices described, you will notice wonderful results - in terms of increased sexual magnetism, increased energy for healing, rejuvenation and spiritual growth (yes, yes, yes - you may even get rid of some wrinkles), and of course, more fabulous sex.

I have attended a workshop with Mantak Chia way back in 1987 and while I had this book, I have recently also purchased the set of videos.I find all of them valuable - workshop, because it gave us all opportunity to clarify anything we might have needed to clarify about the practice; book, because it went into greater lenghts in explaining finer points; and video set, because it's easy to follow and it's great to refresh some points one might have forgotten (after all, there is only so much one can remember after attending a two-day workshop and there's only so long that one can retain the information).

I was passionate about my practice after attending the workshop - however my practice consisted mainly from solitary practice dealing with generation and circulation of sexual energy - which I at time practiced even for 7 hours a day, during the first six months (later on, I have reduced the amount of practice) - however, certain benefits of my initial intense practice remained and have tremendously benefited me with other energy and spiritual practice I was (and still am) engaged in.

I feel deeply grateful for this book and for the teachings Mantak Chia brought to the west. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Soild starter
This book is a solid starter for sure. Honestly it is worth the $$ if you follow the advice. Note it is short and sweet on a lot of topics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading!
This book is the best value out there. Because it explains in simple, easy to understand terms the most essential aspects that every person who lives in a dwelling should know about the way our choices about energy affect our homes. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wanna save money? Get this book
With so much emphasis on energy saving and global warming these days, this book is a great reference for the average homeowner. Written in simple terms with easy-to-understand graphics, anyone can easily understand the causes of heat loss and cold air infiltration, and the solutions. Bruce Harley shows once again why he's one of the foremost experts in building science and energy conservation in America.

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb guidebook from an obviously expert guide

I own about a dozen DIY books on weatherproofing/weathersealing, interior air quality (IAQ), humidity, moisture, and so forth.Harley's "Insulate and Weatherize" was my hands-down favorite purchase in that category. The writing and photos and diagrams were all intelligent and precise, and Harley's knowledge is several notches above the other authors'. He foresaw issues and problems that our top local HVAC consultant was clueless about. Priceless.

"Cut Your Energy" is like his earlier book in all those ways, but with a different emphasis. There is overlap with the earlier book when it comes to things like hunting-and-destroying air leaks, but most of "Cut Your Energy" is new material. I'd already read a lot in this area, so I knew maybe 45% of the stuff in Cut Your Energy. But the other 55% was worth its weight in gold.

This is an oversize book with tons of detailed text, photos, diagrams, lists of resources and contact info, appendices, and -- our favorite -- "energy-saving" myths. [One example: We had assumed that we should seal off the HVAC vents in unused bedrooms and closets to save energy. Not always true, per Harley.]

Unless you're an expert already, I think this is the book to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars Conservation & Efficiency

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Basics - Surprisingly Comprehensive
I was expecting the usual hodge podge of alternative energy, but this book delves deeper into the meaning of energy, and the fundamental problems inherent in all energy processes. This is not a rah rah book, but a sober analysis of the problems facing alternative energy, along with realistic solutions.Realism will solve the green dilemma, not partisanship and wishful thinking.
Highly recommended if you want a comprehensive viewpoint of energy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Basics on Alternative Energy
As a 'green' thinker, I was looking for some ideas as to how to reduce my dependencies on the utilities and energy providers. I had some preconceived notions as to what was available, but really did not know the advantages or disadvantages of the choices.

The author does a great job producing content that can be scanned for items of interest without requiring that you read the book cover to cover. Each of the alternative energy options are explored, with pros and cons, estimated pricing options, and a good comparitive summary.

1-0 out of 5 stars Required an Editor
The book is very sloppy in both content and style. There were paragraphs that I had to read seven or eight times to try and figure out what part of the message the author left out. There are "facts" included in the text that don't even pass the giggle test.It appears there are many key words that are missing, little clues that might indicate a number represents "millions" of tons, and not tons.Of course the correct answer might be "billions", the text offers no clue.

The author begins the book by stating that he will be "neutral" on the issue of anthropogenic global warming, and then throughout the book takes every opportunity to link alternative energy to AGW -- focusing on carbon emissions, which he always refers to as "greehouse gases".

I love the DUMMIES series, and have well over a dozen in my library. This is the first one that really disappointed me.A decent editor with knowledge of the subject could have fixed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alternate energy
This is a very informative book. I may not do much of it but any energy savings is good for me and the planet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Easy Reading Low Level Descriptions of Alternative Energy
I am a professional engineer with degrees in mechanical and nuclear engineering. I specialize in energy systems for building heating, cooling, and lighting. I have forty years of work experience. This book with twenty-three chapters and 362 pages covers pretty much the full range of alternative energy options that are commercially available or nearly so for consumers. The technical level seems to me about what one would expect for articles in Parade, the Sunday newspaper supplement. Diagrams are few and very simple. (There is nothing wrong with writing for this level of reader.)

Certainly a qualitative discussion of how alternative systems work and what advantages they bring is helpful, but even an interested high school physics student would be looking for more technical content. The book's cover has as the first objective learning to "evaluate the various forms of alternative energy," but evaluation (a comparison of alternatives for example) requires thermodynamic and other technical facts and energy and system cost data far beyond those presented in this book.

After reading this book you will be able to describe in general terms (but certainly not engineering terms) the various alternatives; but you will have little basis for comparisons and selections.

The book has many technical mistakes. For example, the book states, "According to Carnot's law, these smaller power generating machines can never achieve the efficiencies of the massive power plants..." He is speaking here of the Carnot thermodynamic cycle; but that "law" says nothing at all about the size of the system. Carnot (French engineer, 1796 - 1832) found that the theoretical efficiency of an engine operating on the Carnot thermodynamic cycle depends only on the temperatures of the hot and cold reservoirs.

Describing a nuclear reactor the books says, "so there is a need to constantly keep feeding in new uranium material in order to keep the consistent, steady flow of energy that is desired from a nuclear reactor." Nuclear reactors powering electrical generating stations or naval vessels control the power output by raising and lowering neutron-absorbing control rods. New nuclear material is added only during refueling, which take place every year or two while the reactor is shut down.

The book states that steam is produced in a nuclear power plant in "the boiler (this is similar to the boilers used for fossil fuels.) The steam in a nuclear plant is produced in a steam generator that is far different in design than a fossil fuel boiler.

The book states, "Some reactors don't allow the water to boil; they keep it under high pressure and use that pressure to spin the turbine." In every common reactor system, the water that cools the reactor in the end produces steam. For example high pressure water that goes through the reactor in a pressurized water reactor turns lower pressure water in a separate circuit into steam in the steam generator, which is just a big water to water heat exchanger. All turbines that drive generators in reactor plants are steam turbines.

All of us must start with simple descriptions of new things. But one can not stop there if one wants to make accurate decisions. It is not common sense or higher moral values that drive innovation, but rigorous and often difficult engineering together with a knowledge of the economics of energy markets and knowledge of systems installation costs and operating costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a very informative read on energy movement and energy center activation. In this book, Bruce explains a variety of practices to activate the human energy body. I found the chakra activation exercises to be especially useful. Overall a fast and easy read and a definite recommendation for anyone interested in energy work or energy body development.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ongoing review........
This work was recommended to me by my Amazon friend Prokopton.
I'm only a few chapters into the book and I'm very happy with what I've read so far.
It's all very familiar to me, but sometimes it's good to go back to the basics and review.

I've already explained in my review of "Adventures Beyond The Body" how I've sort of come to a stand still in my "adventuring".
There are many factors, some I have shared, and some I have not felt totally comfortable sharing yet.
But back to this book.
Energy work is something I've already been unknowingly doing for years with astral projection, but nothing really this focused JUST on the energy body itself.
I'm excited like I haven't been in years to further read this book and start doing the exercises daily.
One thing this book pointed out is that a lot of people cannot visualize.
What an eye opener that was for me. This is something that has always come easily to me.
After just the first chapter of exercises I am feeling the energy but somewhat differently than what is in the book.
Another eye opener is the "Staff of Hermes". I was able to visualize this almost right away.
I can easily sense what direction it is turning but instead of a red core I am sensing a white core that is bright orange around the egdes if turning clockwise.
Blue if counter clockwise.
?????
And thoughts anyone?
Is my imagination just in overdrive?
I am not feeling energy more in one certain area or on one side of my body.
Both sides seem equal.
The strongest areas for me are for some reasons my hands and my big toes lol.
Hands especially are super sensitive.
But the one are that always cramps on me for some reason is my calves.
I'm not sure if my energy there is stuck or if it's just a reaction to energy moving throughout my legs.
Still, after only a few days and nights I am feeling energy surges and a sense of calm I have not felt for ages.
I think I've written enough for now.......
I'll update this weekend, or Monday perhaps.
Thanks for reading, be well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and easy to learn
Robert Bruce's New Energy Ways (NEW) is a practical and easy to learn approach to energy work and energy body development that gives results quicker than any other system I've encountered. The techniques in this book do not use visualization. Instead, they rely on a non visual system called tactile imaging. The main idea is to develop your energy body in a healthy and balanced way by stimulating secondary and tertiary energy centers before you start working with your primary energy centers (main chakras).

Most of the book contains practical and detailed descriptions of exercises, and explanations on what to expect, what problems might occur and how to counter them. It warns you of potential risks and tells you what to avoid.
It encourages a hands-on approach and actually doing energy work rather than discussing theory.

The writing is very clear and understandable. There were no contradictions or word salads that I was aware of, nor was I at any point confused with what the author was talking about. Instead of using Eastern terminology the author mostly uses modern Western wording. Eastern terms are used only when there are no sufficiently accurate synonyms, but a good explanation of those terms is given. The author obviously did his best to make the book reader friendly.

There is one more thing worth noting. The content of this book is by no means the same as the online NEW manual that Bruce offers on his website for free. The book goes deeper into the system itself and offers a lot more material to consider and use, like additional exercises, primary center work, group work, blockage removal, using elemental energy, healing etc.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in energy body development.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Direct Path to Energy Work.
Once again Robert Bruce brings us a very easy to read book, without all the confusing eastern new age mumble jumble that turns allot of Westerner's off.

The author gives easy to follow exercises that can make you instantly start feeling energy (chi) move to where you direct it. I have read lots of books on this subject and Robert Bruce's techniques are by far the easiest to work with.

He also discusses how to do healing on oneself which I found quiet interesting and don't recall reading as detailed information on this subject elsewhere.

And lastly we are briefly taught how to heal others with energy. This part of the book is quite short and you will have to read other books on the subject, such as Barbara Brennan's if you won't to go into this subject in more depth.

If you have already read the authors other books, you can probably skim through most of this one, unless you want to do a refresher course. Otherwise I would still highly recommend buying it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is an excellent book on developing the luminous body. If I were to buy only one Robert Bruce book it would be Astral Dynamics but this book does give additional useful information. I agree with Robert Bruce that his method is excellent by itself. It is also excellent in conjunction with other systems such as Quantum Touch for healing. The type of thing he is teaching and his methods are probably the most important element of spiritual development. This is a practical way of starting a shamanic path such as the path described by Castaneda. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Passive Solar Compendium
This is the design authority for energy crisis 1.0 passive solar design.Very appropriate today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Resource
Many years ago I found Edward Mazria's 1979 "Passive Solar Energy Book" in a used book store and bought it on a whim. For years it sat waiting in my reference library. Now as a retired Engineer interested in designing an energy independent house -- it is by far, a most useful Bible.

The book's self-limitation to "passive" (rather than "active") systems -- only affects the architectural design philosophy and patterns (rules of thumb). Russel Ball's sketches illustrate basic concepts extremely well.

Charts and tables of solar insolation on surfaces at various latitudes and tilt-angles (from his computer analysis in the 70s) are extensive, detailed and applicable anywhere, for ANY solar design.

My "Professional Edition" (687 pages) includes 14 Appendices filled with reference charts and tables -- and clear plastic chart overlays for latitude and panel orientation. I only wish Mazria's underlying formulas for calculations were provided (as many now on the Internet are dangerously poorly documented.)

The book is written in a friendly and understandable format, while also filled with hard-data -- as relevant today as when written. I can't believe it hasn't been continuously re-published. If you are designing solar and find a copy, grab it without hesitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Down to earth, practical methodology book
From a number of books I have been reading on passive energy topics, Mazria's small book is the most concrete, understandable and organized. I designed my home using the book and the forecasted energy compsumptionmatched the calculations!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference!
When I designed our first house this book was invaluable. We are now designing our second home and looked to see if there is an update.Unfortunately it has not been revised but then little has changed with thesun and mass and the book will once again be a valued resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely indispensable!
A seminal reference on the fundamentals of solar design.Easily used, yet thorough and quantitative.Should be required reading for everyone in the architecture & building design fields.Sunfall info given here is relevant to every structure ever designed -- and if you actually use it, the info *will* improve your design!! ... There are many misconceptions about the future of global energy often presented as fact by the media, politicians, business leaders, activists, and even scientists_wasting time and money and hampering the development of progressive energy policies. Energy Myths and Realities: Bringing Science to the Energy Policy Debate debunks the most common fallacies to make way for a constructive, scientific approach to the global energy challenge. When will the world run out of oil? Should nuclear energy be adopted on a larger scale? Are ethanol and wind power viable sources of energy for the future? Vaclav Smil advises the public to be wary of exaggerated claims and impossible promises. The global energy transition will be prolonged and expensive_and hinges on the development of an extensive new infrastructure. Established technologies and traditional energy sources are persistent and adaptable enough to see the world through that transition.Energy Myths and Realities brings a scientific perspective to an issue often dominated by groundless assertions, unfounded claims, and uncritical thinking. Before we can create sound energy policies for the future, we must renounce the popular myths that cloud our judgment and impede true progress. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rational
I really enjoyed this completely rational look at our current energy predicament. He doesn't shy away from telling the truth to spare feelings or forward a political side.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth a look
Three stars may be a bit overrated, but it is worth something for the challenge of trying to figure out what the author is getting at.Being published by the American Enterprise Institute, with Dick Cheney on the board and Lynne Cheney and Newt Gingrich on the research staff, don't expect this book to the leading edge of environmentalism and alternative energy.

Smil does mention global warming, but only briefly.

His main theme seems to be, "Don't put money and effort into seeking alternative energy solutions because they could not be provided in the short term; somehow any attention to alternative energy would detract from the current main energy sources: fossil fuels". He claims to be presenting his case from a totally rational perspective, and slams those with different views as operating on emotion and not on sound engineering and science.Smil is a Distinguished Professor of Environment and Environmental Geography at the University of Manitoba, and holds a doctorate in some unstated field from Penn State U.The question is whether this qualifies him for the rigorous engineering anlysis he claims others lack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Generation: The Hard Facts Unveiled
We have often heard authoritative statements made by various reputable individuals about new ideas for producing plenty of energy in the near future - cleanly, efficiently and cheaply. These often involved new approaches combined with new scientific/technological advances of various sorts. But as the months, years and even decades pass by, we are left still waiting for these ideas, or perhaps some offshoots, to materialize. In this book, the author explains the reasons for these shortcomings and warns about any such statements that may currently being made. As the author puts it, the book is "aimed at criticizing assorted myths and misconceptions [about energy-related issues], and in doing so has mostly had to correct excessively positive or unjustifiably enthusiastic expectations and interpretation" (p. 156). Only in one case presented in the book has the opposite been done, i.e., to address a myth that is unjustifiably too negative. The myths discussed are related to: electric cars, cheap nuclear electricity, soft energy, peak oil, i.e., the so-called Hubbert's peak, sequestration of carbon dioxide, liquid fuel from plants, electricity from wind, and the pace of energy transitions. For some, this book may be an eye-opener; for others, it may confirm their suspicions. And for the enthusiasts who are, in all honesty, promoting some of these myths, the hard facts presented may be terribly discouraging.

The writing style is clear, occasionally witty, very authoritative, rather formal but also relatively accessible. The book reads like a set of scientific reports - one for each topic being addressed; consequently, one might say that the prose is often rather dry. As is standard for scientific reports, the text is dense with information, contains a great many facts and figures, has several useful diagrams and is extensively referenced. This book is likely to be most appreciated by those who are concerned about future energy production/consumption, e.g., policy makers, politicians, scientists, engineers and interested members of the public.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing perspective from Bon Master
Although it's difficult to understand the nature of mind, This book worth to be read by all Vajrayana practitioner to broaden their perspective toward Bon teachings.

5-0 out of 5 stars very nice
The amount and quality of information in this book is staggering. There is something to be said for a tradition that goes back for many centuries, a tradition that has combined a sophisticated 'energetic technology' with an established ecclesiastic hierarchy that weeds out charlatans and pretenders. Although Native Americans, Lapps etc have similar 'technologies'you will be lucky to get 5% of the info described here from an NDN - first, he doesn't want to talk about the stuff ('too sacred') and second, he doesn;thave a language for it. Tibetans, on the other hand, have developed a vocabulary (much of it sourcing from Abhidarmic texts) that clearly, precisely and unambiguously delineates various types of mental/physiological/psychical etc states and can be used to navigate tricky transpersonal domains as well as to develop greater, more effective and satisfying life. In other words, the Tibetans have developed a solid, unified, empirically tested container with appropriate safeguards.

The book starts by describing the properties of the 5 elements and their relationship to the human psyche.TWR goes on to describe breathing and visualization exercises designed to embody particular elements and their relationship to energetic channels & chakras. Analysis of different types of elemental spirits. Very helpful depictions of working with natural forces, tantric deities, protectors and dzogchen practices. These blend together, seamlessly. Techniques on taking in, holding and releasing tension. Methods to release every negative experience into a more spacious, embodied experience. These techniques are not in the service of self; getting rid of personal suffering is simply an expedient way towards serving all beings, to helping with the awakening of the Universe.

It is rare to find a book on shamanism that is so concise, informative and selfless. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the Shamanic at Heart
If you have a shamanistic bent this book is jam packed with the kind of useful information that usually requires an apprenticeship to acquire. It is one of the three most practical books I've encountered. If you play around with the practices and hints in this book you will experience amazing wonders in a very short time.Through two practices in particular you might even recognize the basis of your mind or be visited by deities.Don't think for one more minute, just buy the book and do the practices for the ride of your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn To Think Like A Tibetan
Forgive me if I respond first to the review below that said "watch out! This isn't Buddhism!"What that person doesn't know is Tenzin Rinpoche's books are usually prefaced by the Dalai Lama--that's how accepted this is as a legitimate spiritual pathway. This isn't like western religions where diversity means you have to burn somebody at the stake.Everybody is openly accepted for what of value they can offer and Bon has a very alive dzogchen transmission that is second to none.Sorry for this digression.

Anyway, what I liked about his book--other than the fact that Tenzin Wangyal is tops in the Tibetan community in his ability to communicate clearly with westerners (you'll be amazed)is the fact that this book is kind of a lesson in how Tibetans think--which is not required certainly, but if you are studying Tibetan spirituality and are really serious it's something you will find helpful.

LIke his book on Dream Yoga it is extremely readable and is something you can digest with no forehead massaging.I have met Tenzin Wangyal and he is a really good person and nice guy and I always remember in the sleepy period after lunch him chuckling looking out at the sleepy group and saying, "It's earth-element time."

This is a painless way to fill in a gap in your attempts to understand the culture and spirituality of Tibet.

5-0 out of 5 stars good reference book
If you have a basic understanding of other five element practices, this book is a great resource to round out understanding from the Tibetan Bon teaching. It also covers what in TCM are the Jing, Qi and Shen levels of the Bon approach.Very clearly and openly.I thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing style and felt the generousity of spirit in his writing. But remember that information does not make a practice, only a practice makes a practice. ... Product Description

Everyone has had luminous moments in their lives. It's the "a-ha" moment when one experiences the beauty and grace of life, whether it be when looking into the eyes of a newborn child or watching the sun set over the ocean. But those moments are usually too brief. Too often, people walk around in a fog, feeling vaguely frustrated, resigned, and cynical and asking all the wrong questions about how to make life better.  They miss the purpose for being alive: to wake up and become oneself, to allow others to contribute to them and to, in turn, contribute their gifts to the world. This book gives readers specific methods for allowing luminosity into their lives on a consistent basis, allowing them to view the world with much younger, more vibrant eyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book is Clear and Sweet
The principles in the book are clear and sweet. I did the exercises. As I continue to do what is suggested in the book my life is easier and sweeter. What could be better? Read it, do it and get it to the people you love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mastering Life's Energies
I love this book!It is full of fresh insights and life-altering wisdom. It is much more than an average self-help book.It offers keys to focusing our energies on what is important to us.I buy lots of copies and give them to people I like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who IS this woman??
My husband is wondering who took his wife & left this calm woman in her place!Maria's (she feels like an old friend) book truly did leave me with the gifts of clarity, focus & ease, combined for grace in action. My first appearance at a local farmer's market - on a hot July day - met with the on-site discovery of rusted canopy struts. There we were, with hopelessly broken canopy and dozens & dozens of cupcakes with highly perishable buttercream frostings.Having just finished Mastering Life's Energies, there was no sense of panic or impassioned near-hysterics.Tracked down the market coordinator, let her know there was a situation, and between the two of us we came up with a perfectly workable solution - and I experienced a luminous moment.HIGHLY recommend it as a highly effective, spiritually low tech, well-crafted (love the way she reinforces core messages throughout the book & summarizes at the end) guide to living a coherent life that welcomes luminosity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Sublime! Practical !
I interviewed Dr. Nemeth many years ago for an article I was writing about spirituality and money.
Now, years later, I've come upon "Mastering Life's Energies." I tend to eschew "self-help" books but this is no self-help book. Well, yes, it can help the self. But I would say it challenges the old, limited self to grow into something much deeper and much more meaningful and yes, luminous. I appreciate especially the comments on ontology -- we name the specifics of our ground-of-being (via our life intentions and standards of integrity) and these become our guiding lamp-posts toward living a life of meaning. (I'd say we need such an Ontological Revolution in these challenging times we live in!) Nemeth integrates metaphors from the new sciences and brain research to support how we may re-conceptualize the meaning of what it means to be fully alive each day. Get the book. Read it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Renewable Energy
An excellant resource for a closer look at Renewable Energy! The book is well written, and goes into great detail about each topic. It is a very readable book; one that a semi-educated individual could probably figure out and understand. It also has so many references you can follow for further, more detailed study of each topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
It's a fantastic book! Covers all you need to know, albeit focusing a bit too much on the UK!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not good for a technical course.
This book has very nice pictures and broad overview descriptions but it does not dive into technical details of renewable energy device operation. Many of the exmaples shown are in Europe, and therefore less tangible for U.S. students. It would be a more appropriate textbook for a renewable energy survey course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction - even for after graduated engineers
This book clarifies much concepts concerning Renewable Energy. It is filled with lots of statistical and economical charts, concepts explanation, schemas and drawings about the technology.

It does not show formulas on how to dimension, but a lot of results from studies are revealed with detailed account on what was found in numbers.

Even for an engineering bachelor degree, its worth, because it covers a lot of concept from all the different kinds of Energy. ... Read more
